Bent after two days - Nexus 6P General

Yup, two days with my brand new phone and the thin aluminum strips above both buttons are bent outwards. The phone itself doesn't appear bent but I'll double check when I get home.
I'm thinking it might have something to do with the case I'm using (official Google nexus case) which seems awfully tight and might pull on the case when I'm pressing the buttons.
This doesn't bode well for the quality of the aluminum used.
Update 11/6: I contacted Google customer support. They were very nice and I got the RMA for the phone and the case. The woman seemed to think it was a manufacturing defect for this phone and/or this case only.
I am going to hang back a bit and see how the whole thing shakes out. If this doesn't turn out to be a chronic issue, I will definitely re-purchase a Nexus 6p.

Wow that sucks, how did you discover this?

Lol

Bummer! Adopted Google case?

Yikes, definitely quality issues going on with this phone. That's totally unacceptable for a flagship.

Insurance claim or are you gonna try to RMA it?

worse than iphones..sad but true

Yes it's the Google adopted case. I think I'm going to try the RMA route.

yup, I would for sure. Hope when I get my phone. The Speck Candyshell case works a lot better!!!

No but I'm not gonna find out if it does.. this is just getting ridiculous, I was gonna keep it until I saw this thread and also the one where the guys graphite paint was already coming off... I'm not gonna drop 700 bucks on a phone that wont even last a year

I've never seen any case bend any phones.. I've put on cases on this phone that have to pretty much push the crap just to make it fit.

Anyone dropped or scratched their shiny new Note?

Was at work today and put my Note carefully in a drawer in the OR. Then my nurse pulls the whole drawer out, and the whole thing falls out with my 1 day old precious Note landing on the floor as a end result. Thankfully my $5 TPU case saved the day. My heart skipped more than just a beat. Hopefully no one else scratches up their new toy.
Both notes on display at my local AT&T store had big scratches. First day on display and they were jacked up!

Probably from jealous iPhonies. Haha, just kidding. My store had a flip cover on their white display model and that was already bent. Display models get torn to crap.
Dropped, yes
Scratched, NO!

That might have been me, I was seeing if my key would scratch it. lol Pretty tuff.
Dropped mine this morning. Managed to get my foot under it and reduce the fall to just a few inches. Now I hold it much more tightly. If USPS had delivered today I'd have had a case on it...
Screen is fine.

Mine was in my pocket when I reclined in my new Lazy-Boy chair. It slid out of my pocket like it was greased with butter, fell through the chair and onto the hard wood floor (OK, Pergo...). I have since ordered a rubberized case to hopefully slow it down a bit!

dropped mine right when i got home. im lucky it hit my cat and the floor. He isn't hurt and neither is my precious note. i guarantee if it hit my floor it would have cracked.
The first 30 minutes of having the phone I bought a Case & Screen protector. I remember the first day of having my infuse I got a scratch on the screen and a scratch on the side and I was so angry at myself for not protecting from day 1.
Well, I have a good story. I was washing dishes in the kitchen (you can see where this is going) and has the Note propped up on the drip edge of the counter watching basketball. I left the kitchen to ask my wife a question. When I came back no more than 15 seconds later my Note was gone!!!!!
I was like did my 4 yr old take it. No... I look down in the sink and it was in a pot I was washing that was FULL of water and my Note is at the bottom with the screen on. I grabbed it out and quickly pulled off the case and got the battery out. Dried it off and prayed it was OK.
After further inspection the Speck case it was in kept a lot of water out. None of the water marks turned red and I'm happy to report it works fine.

They were deep scratches, not very long but there. I was suprised myself. I get my note in a day or two and all I have had the in the past is iPhones. Can't wait untill it shows up.
A screen protector is the first thing I will install.

[Q] Screen protection

Hi XDA
I'm new here (this is my first thread) and I want to ask something. I have a question about screen protection on the GS3. At the moment I got a screen protector (€6,-) and the original GS3 Flip case (sideways). I also have a black vertical leather flipcase. But now comes the problem.
I find it difficult to type with the case flipped back. You have to kinda hold the phone a bit weird to type and I just don't like it.
My problem with the leather case is that it makes the phone like 2 times as thick.
Now my question: Is it necessary to have extra screen protection next to my screen protector (like with a flip case)? Can I use cases like the Otterbox Commuter in combination with my screen protector without worrying about scratches? I don't want to mess my screen up.
Note: I REALLY don't want any scratches or other stuff on the screen... I just put the phone into my pants and I just use it like a common person. Nothing exceptional.

(knock on wood) I have had an iPod Touch which I used for 1.5 years and I never dropped it. I always put my iPod in a Valenta Pouch, but I just don't think a pouch/pocket is good for a 4.8 inch phone. I don't want something too bulky and be able to use it immediately when I take it out of my pants. Now I'm using the original flip case and that doesn't protect the screen very well against falling. I dropped my phone a few times and I saw the flip part caught the wind from the fall and opened, ending with my phone landing on its screen. That's also why I want a case which has a little part at the front of your bezel/screen, so the screen never touches the surface it's laying on.
I kinda made up my mind, I'm going for the otterbox commuter. Is it a good screenprotector that comes with it?

Haven't broken the screen but the frame of this phone is crap coming from Motorola. It's hit the ground twice from less than 3 feet and has 3 rather large dents in the housing. Once was falling off the seat in my car to a rubber all season floor mat which shouldn't do crap but left a dent. I'll give samsung the nod on internal hardware but the chassis is awful. A friend of mine dropped his from about waist high onto the edge and shattered his screen.

I have a pretty extensive history with Motorola and have come to the same conclusion. I had my phone on my bed and accidentally dropped my belt on the top right corner of the phone and it left a noticeable indention. I immediately went out and bought a case for the phone even though I've never worried about one with any previous phone.

if you afraid the screen would be broken, you should buy Nokia mobilephone. otherwise, you could buy a phone case to protect your mobilephone.

I carry my new phones around like they're a newborn child, won't put it in a pocket that has anything else in it or near the desk/nightstand edges. It's all about minimizing risks - like not trying to carry too many things at once.
With that being said, there's a 100% chance I'll drop this phone at some point. My GS3 survived a couple major drops with a few small dents in the corner .... as much as I like the look/feel of the GS4 a million times more than the GS3, I feel like the reduced bezel size and straight/rigid edges won't be as durable.
Get a case guys!

I just got a Spigen Neo Hybrid case. It's slim and sexy, but now I'm concerned it won't offer much protection for anything but the shortest falls. I'll have to check out this one.
I got mine on release day, and haven't dropped it once. I carried it for a few days with no case to enjoy the slim profile of the phone. Bought an Incipio case for it and seems to do the job. Of course like I said... haven't dropped it. I plan on picking up that Neo Hybrid as well, its gorgeous! :good::highfive:

Nexus 9 cracked corner?!

Hi everyone,
I've had my N9 for 6 days and I've already got a cracked corner on the bottom left... I'm really angry as I didn't drop it or anything!!! It most probably happened when placing it on the table or something.. Really annoyed, I thought these screens where durable.. Any advice on repairs??
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Forums
HTC will fix it of courses, but the prices won't be pretty. And Gorilla Glass is strong, but dropping it at the right angle or applying pressure can crack it. Yours might've broke if it was installed incorrectly at the original factory.
"I'd Totally Hug You, If That Was Something I Did"
I'm not sure I'm going to get it repaired, it costs too much but I will try and return it in my 14 day money back guarantee and see what they have to say. I'm really p*ssed though.. I didn't do ANYTHING to it.. All want happened was I literally layed it on the table.. I also JUST ordered a case for it on Sunday... Super mad.. I've only had it 6 days and there are only a hand full in my country so exchanging it will be a real pain.. -_-

Google "screen cracked on its own" and you'll see other users that have experienced it randomly. I'm certain it's related to how the device is assembled, but I'm not sure how the store will respond when you attempt to return it.

Sounds like its just a bit off the corner then... you might try some AUTOMOTIVE WINDSHIELD REPAIR GLUE on it. That repair won't fix a screen that is completely spider cracked, but it might help hold it together or make it less visible. Could even hide the damage ENTIRELY from the store you are returning the thing to.
Personally, I would try the repair, and then decide if I wanted to keep it or try to return it.
Wow, that actually sounds like a really good idea! I would send a pic of the screen but I already took it back (they said they would try and send it for RMA so I said why the hell not) anyway I can always try it when I get it back from them and then try and return it at a different store do you have any links for something like this?? Most moderately large car part and accessory stores should carry stuff like that. It comes in a small tube, and sometimes with an injector syringe. Here in Canada, Canadian Tire does. In the US, discount auto parts, autozone, napa. I don't know what car part retail is like in Prague though, sorry.

That loctite stuff is what you're looking for.
You may or may not able able to make use of the suction cup thing. What that does, is it basically sucks some air out of the crack, then pushes the glue into it. To be honest, I'm not sure how the vacuum process would even work on a digitizer. You may only want to smear the glue on the surface, let it soak in a bit and UV cure, then razor blade it.

Thanks man, I'm going to definitely give it a try! Unlike car windscreens that you can see through, I think that the dark digitizer under the glass might help conceal it better no? :-o Any do you have any personal experience with this? Any tips?

Well, my experience with car windshield repair glue is for repairing car windshields. I'll tell you that on a car windshield, that stuff *massively* reduces the appearance of a chip or crack, and can stop spider cracks from spreading.

Well it sounds good and certainly from the vids I've seen it looks to work like a charm when done properly My final question is, is this stuff safe for mobile devices?

I can't imagine that it would cause any problems. Its basically just a UV activated epoxy.
Sounds great thanks so much for your help! Now I just hope that it will work

I'm very SHOCKED!!!!!

I'm still getting it, but it's something I couldn't ignore...

The bending worries more then anything. Might have to reconsider a case.
Ok..this doesn't look good at all. I think that I will cancel my pre-order.
I wouldn't worry till unboxTherapy does one... And actually bend it easily

Uh, but that's a property of aluminum. Why are people surprised by this? Isn't the iPhone 6 easy bend as well? Aluminum is soft, there's nothing surprising about it.

Are you kidding me now? Go try to bend a new iphone. Let me know when you succeed.

I'm not canceling my order either. I put screen protectors and cases on all my phones. Boy that is disappointing.

That's interesting, different from the other video I watched. I still believe aluminum is an inferior material compared to good quality plastic for phones.

There are different levels of aluminium strength. Obviously they went the cheap route here and picked such soft aluminium as it can be clearly seen in the video.
Don't know about you ,but I treat my phones like a precious piece of China anyway.I have just come from a one M7 after 2 years where it never had a case or a SP on it,always kept in a leather pouch when not in use and it is still in immaculate condition.I'm not going to burn it with a lighter, scratch it with s pick{if I did I'd get a new screen put in anyway ) and its front pocket with nothing else in there.....

A leather pouch isn't going to save your phone from being bent though.

I am extremely upset now. Looks like Huawei really went with the cheapest possible aluminium they could find. And at least here in Europe the price is still premium. EUR690..
Why does Google always f*ck up some part with their phones..
If you look at his thumbs, you can see he was applying a lot of force. No reviewer has mentioned their phones accidentally bending, so I wouldn't worry too much yet.

This, until someone reports a real world usage issue I'm not worried.
