Which root method works for SGP 4.0 YP-G1 with 2.3.6??? - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Guys, I've been reading and reading through thread after thread and can't seem to find a definite and safe method for rooting my Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 (U.S.) with 2.3.6. -I read about superoneclick and framaroot and it sounds like these methods work on devices running 2.3.5 but not the one I have. I want to use voodoo sound - that is really the primary and only reason I am trying to go through the trouble of rooting. I'm just tired of reading and searching now - could someone tell me what method works to root my device described above? thanks.

I used iroot worked first time out of the box

I just used Kingo Root - worked fine on 2.3.6. Now I am trying to figure out the next step - creating a nandroid before I go any further. It's proving to be a bit confusing. CWM seems popular but the app page for ROM Manager (I assume I need this to use it?) says I need a kernel that is compatible - where do I get that? I don't want to install a special kernel yet because I want to back up my current system which is working fine right now so I can go back to it. Does the kernel even matter in the back up process? I just don't understand it all quite yet. Should I use TWRP instead? Maybe with that one I don't need a compatible kernel? Help....

New SGS2 coming in what to do?!?!!

my new sgs2 is coming in a few days. what should I do before rooting?
should i update so it has a newer kernel/firmware?
I'm trying to follow Chainfire root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and it seems that the old radios are not supported.
You should research. If you found a thread with instructions on what to do and you are not sure, ask there.
You should however NOT ask for hand-outs.
Basically all you need to know is CF-Root. Or you could try one-click-root

I did do research. My concern is that only the older versions of CF-Root work with older kernels, like KE, etc. so if I get an old phone, I'm wondering if I should then update to the latest gingerbread version before using CF-Root so I can apply like 5.0?
Hello,
first of all if your phone isn't a new one you will see if its already rooted or not !
if its not, then you have to root it and the only way from stock rom is to flash new kernel version with CF-Root, and CWM is great too for not being often on odin/download mode if you don't want to...
anyway have nice time with your phone its a great one and hard to brick as long as you don't touch to bootloader file..
The CF-root thread has a big list of ROM versions. Just pick the kernel that matches the ROM version of your new phone and you should be all set in rooting the phone.
Here you go.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
I'd strongly suggest you use the phone without doing anything to it (rooting, flashing kernels etc.). Most people find the phone just right the way it comes out of the box.
You should only consider rooting or flashing something if you have a specific need for it.

note root problems 4.0

alright so after searching both here and various other sites on this question i have found nothing very helpfull...
so at the risk of being told i need to search i have to ask. I have a ATT Galaxy note I717. I did get the OTA update to 4.0. I have not yet rooted my phone but im trying to do so. Mostly so i can flash t-mobile onto it for it work properly with my 4G.
So my question is. Were is the root process for a note that already has 4.0.
I followed other instructions here http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-note-sgh-i717-att-clockworkmod-touch-recovery-90018/ and here http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-gt-n7000-method-2odinheimdall/.
After installing such CMW Touch i can not get it to boot to recovery. Just goes into download mode and as welll as i do not have superuser or root acces on the phone. If any one knows where i can find the procedure to gain full root access so i may start playing around that would be greatly appreciated

The second link you provided was for the International Note. That may be the problem. Use the method here: http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...y-note-sgh-i717-icsgingerbreadeasiest-method/. I know for a fact this procedure works, as I have done it on my own Note no less than a dozen times due to the problem in my thread.
Good luck and happy rooting!
Devices:
Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717: Android 4.0.4, Stock, Rooted
Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 YP-G70: Android 2.3.5, Stock, Rooted
Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 GT-P6210: Android 4.0.4, Stock, Rooted
Asus Transformer Prime TF201: Android 4.0.3, Stock
Asus Nexus 7, 16 GB: Android 4.1.1, Stock, Rooted
It says for ginger bread rooting. I am running 4.0 and do not wish to go back to 3. Will i keep my current 4.0 with that method or will it be flashed back to ICS
nvm do appologize,,, just caught my own noob mistake... lol
seeing that you have used this method before... when i go to flash the zip file it gives me an error and says it fails... yet i have super user and root acces on the phone now?
You don't have to root your phone to flash a modem. You don't need to have CWM to flash a modem either.
You can install the modem using Odin3 and your pc.
Agreed ....
Thank you ranger ....g

Android Development for the Samsung Stratosphere II SCH-i415?

Great phone even in stock form. Its only been on the market for about a month so I doubt there are any custom ROMs out there for it yet, but I am sure folks are already working towards that. In any event I would like to root the device. I've tried superoneclick and Im getting stuck on step 7, so its recommended to do a manual root at this point. I am curious if anyone else has been able to root this device and if so, whats the best method? Are there any custom Jelly Bean ROMs out there for it yet?
Also - to the moderators, can we add a section for this phone? I cant see it listed in any of the forums yet. Thanks!
I have been looking around for a method to root the Samsung Stratosphere II with no luck yet. It is the best QWERTY phone out there. I've been surprised at how little buzz it's been generating. I blame Verizon for such a horrible launch and lackluster demand.
I definitely want custom ROM control of the phone as I intend to use it for years.
Yeah its a great phone, very fast and responsive. I'd like to get Jelly bean on it and see how it runs. Mods, can we get a sub forum set up for this phone? It would be great to get development started as soon as possible. Any suggestions on root or pushing superuser to this? Think I can use the stock recovery to push su and busybox?
Mods? Are you out there?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2122682 says it can root your phone
Barring that, I've read you can't flash to your recovery partition with odin, but you should be able to flash to the system partition. You should be able to dump out a stock odin image and manually root it and then repackage it as a tar. pm me for some pointers on how to do that.
i just checked for a software update on my wife's Stratosphere II SCH-i415 and there is one. I live in NC the update was under settings/about device/ software update. its form Verizon size 506.6 MB. is there a way to pull it before it installs? maybe a root method. I installed it. could not wait. well its jellybean went from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2 baseband 1415vrlj2 to i415vrbma3 kernel was 3.0.8-1157001 to 3.0.31-947060
Just a bump, because the device has a working root method for OTA JB devices, and it could use CWM Recovery support as well as Google Wallet porting and some custom ROMs... the usual flurry of activity around an Android device with root.

rom
4.0.4 Does any one have stock rom for that version for SS2

Are all the guides outdated?

I'm trying to get Android 5.0 on my wife's Verizon Galaxy S4. I'm specifically looking at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2643031 because it includes an OTA update feature.
My own phone is a Nexus 5, so I guess I got spoiled with it being easy
My understanding is that I need to Root in order to flash TWRP or CWM recovery. My baseband version is VRUFNK1. I've found two or three ways to root on older versions, but am struggling to find the guide for this one. If I can skip to flashing the recovery that would be wonderful.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. I've been searching for a few hours now and still can't seem to get anywhere.
Edit: PS - Realized I'm not 100% sure on the radio modem thing either. I downloaded the one from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358007 but at this point I'm not sure that's up-to-date anymore.
You would have to "downgrade" to NC5 then root with Towelroot. You can't use a custom recovery. Only Safestrap. As far as Android 5.0, I'm pretty sure it's not possible for Safestrap users at this time. There are guides on how to these steps in the forum.

I was told to redirect my question here. My original post is :
Hi, my name is Anthony and I have a T-Mobile S5 running the latest version of android (I think it's 5.0.1 or 5.0). I'm kinda a newb with flashing and rooting. I had my phone rooted using towel root a while ago, but I lost that root in an update and it is no longer supportive of my phone.
I'm looking to install custom roms but before I do so, I would like to make a full backup of my current stock touch wiz so I can revert to it in case I don't like the new rom. I also would like to root my phone. Oh, and before anyone tells me that I need to install Odin, I have a Mac running Yosemite.... A lot of people have told me that I need to install clock work in order for this whole process to work.
Recap advice/how to:
1. Make backup rom
2. Root phone
3. Teach me how to flash roms using a Mac.
4. Include any other important info and links for downloads.
I mainly want to install CM12, but I still want a backup rom to revert to later
Thanks, and please don't post any hate

There is well written instructions on the web already. Maybe I could find a link for you.
That would be great. I've tried a couple with no success
Just use a windows pc... borrow one its 5 minutes to root.
Use odin.
You can downgrade to kit Kat also if u want u don't have to stay on 5.0
there are not many 5.0 roms or even customization for lollipop ,you will discover that fast.
