Mobile network signal stays on when phone off???? - Redmi Note 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure if this is a bug or not, I switch my phone off at night, but when I switch it on the next day and go to battery use, it shows mobile network signal has been active during the switched off period, is this normal behaviour

Bug, or is there malicious hardware installed by Xiaomi to spy on us?

How much battery if not used?

Hi,
I would like to know how much battery do the wi-fi, mobile network and gps options use if they're active but not being used: that is, if no application is making use of the gps, the phone is not connected to a wi-fi network and there is no network traffic at all.
Would it be worth bothering to turn those options off under these conditions? Or would it be a waste of time?
GPS 'should' be drawing little to no power if not requested by an app - in theory.
Mine is on all the time and my battery while not lasting as long as I'd quite like, is not being drained like it would if GPS was active.
I take the fact that as the GPS icon is not displayed in the status bar unless turned on by Maps or another app, that its sitting idle.
I 'think' having GPS on means that its available to be used by apps. If off , then its not available at all ever.
WiFi however is on regardless and will be sniffing for networks or attached to a network. Only off or asleep depending the sleep settings you've selected.
i.e off when screen off.
Would wifi use energy if you told it not to notify new spots?
According to BatteryStatus widget, my HTC Hero drops from 95% to 74% in exactly five hours of physical sleep (that's me who slept, not the machine, ok?), I turn the machine into Airplane Mode.
Darn, it forces me to bring the charger to work. (USB charging apparently doesn't do much)
I am not sure if it's the inaccuracy ofthe widget, or do some vampire drained the battery this fast. I have uninstalled NetCounter and Batter Status and Infodroid, disabled Peep update, bogged down Facebook/FLIckr updates to 4 hours, I will see if this machine can achieve longer battery duration tonight.

Battery Life

Ok i'll strart this one off with my experince and my battery, (sorry about typos)
When I first got my droid, the phone lasted 3 hours and needed a charge. Well now it lasts me 56 hours and i use it about 5. 1/2 hours to 6 hours. If you do not care about pushemail disable the following settings.
Wifi
GPS
Mobile Network Always On
Enable:
AutoBacklight or turn brightness down as low as you can bare.
Hope this helps improve somes battery life. With Mobile Network always on you will still be able to use the internet there will be a small delay at first to sign in. If you want easy access to wifi/gps add a widget to your desktop. Now if you want to take it a step farther and are not getting quite what you want install a task manager i use Task Manager 1.11.1 use your preference. If your done using a app/game kill it as this is responsible for alot of idle cpu use even when not in use and may/can prevent your phone from sleeping. To check your sleeping status go to Settings> About> Status> At the bottom youll see uptime and alive time with a easy % number. At first my awake time was 78% after doing all this and using task managers i was averaging 9%.. Also just remember the more you play/ mess with it your battery will Die, I can still drain my battery quick if i wanted to.
The WiFi chip uses less power than the 3G Chip, so if WiFi were enabled whenever there is an available network, battery life shall be saved.
I keep my Mobile Network Always on enabled and I get about 18 hours out of my phone in one charge with moderate to heavy use.
Haven't done my wifi test yet. Original was with my mobile network just drained the battery today again, will try with wifi as suggested. Only down side to wifi - only is MMS give errors. So you gotta toggle to Mobile Network, But if you disable always on mobile network (still leaving mobile network on) and enable wifi, This should cause the mobile network only to be used when needed correct? so i would assume it would be same power savings if you were wifi only?

Figuring out the Lumia 920 + Heat + Battery Drain issue(s)...

I just wanted to post on the XDA forums that there is a thread to help determine what is causing the "heat + battery drain" issue(s) on the Lumia 920.
http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nok...n-ATT-Overheats-Battery-Draining/td-p/1606012
Specifically, we've seen fairly normal battery drain when using applications, but when LTE data is introduced the battery continues to drain at a rate of 7-8% per hour even after the applications are closed. For example, streaming something like Xbox Music or Netflix over the LTE connection (wifi OFF), the phone warms up considerably and the battery continues to drain at a high rate even after those applications are closed. The same applications behave normally over 3G or Wifi, and the battery drain is not present afterward.
The "fix" so far appears to be disabling LTE altogether.
• Open Dialer
• Punch in ##3282 and hit Call
• At the Field Test menu, choose more options via the three dots (lower right)
• Select Settings
• Under network type, select "3G only". UMTS should be set to "Automatic".
• Change the "Toggle ENS" setting to OFF
• Back out, power off the phone, and power on again
Definitely interested in hearing other's reports on this issue. Specifically, does this happen with ALL Lumia 920 phones? Is this specific to this particular model phone? Is this a Nokia issue, LTE chip issue, or WP8 issue? Was this introduced with the Portico update?
Thanks.
Upon further testing.........
Disabling LTE is *not* the ultimate fix. Yes, it does help keep the battery drain down to more reasonable levels, but it does not solve the problem. I've subsequently tested with the little brother phone -- the Lumia 820 -- to see if the issue is on all WP8 handsets, on all Lumia phones, or even limited to post-Portico update phones (in other words, did Portico make this issue).
After some thorough testing, I can say with confidence that this issue is specific to the Lumia 920 and not necessarily all WP8 handsets or Lumia phones.
Detailed thread here: http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nok...Overheats-Battery-Draining/m-p/1795212#M43837
I am currently working with Nokia to find a long-term resolution to this issue.
Please keep us updated, I'm very interested in knowing how to fix this problem! ??
I found that disabling bluetooth helps out.
Battery drain
To help reduce battery drain I do the following on my WP
I get a connectivity shortcut app. There are a few options available in the store. Anyway I pin airplane mode, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location on my home screen and turn them off when I'm not using them. Turning off location turns of GPS, so you must enable it before launching Drive/Here. A lot of battery issues I think have to do with the phone being to aggressive (power wise) trying to search for signal. Whether its Wi-Fi a Bluetooth device, etc. I also disable Tap+Send (NFC) because I never use it.
And I go into background tasks and I block every single app from running in the background except the ones I am sure I want to run. Remeber the list where you can block them is for apps that want to run on a timed schedule, they can still run in the BG if you home screen out of them. For me the only one I allow is MS Weather (for the live tile). Disabling Nokia Drive/Here seems to help battery life for some people.
The biggest battery saver I did was forwarding my other email accounts (Gmail & Yahoo!) to Outlook.com, and then set that to only look every 1 hour (instead of the stock 30 minutes). My phone went from lasting 1 - 1.5 days to over 2.5 - 3 days with my typical usage (light usage).
I try not to use Live Tiles, or lock screen pictures unless I really want them (like weather for instance), as they help drain the battery quicker.
Anyway Nokia is really on top of their game so I think they will help contribute to WP to eliminate these issues. The only non-software related issue with the 920 is the dust in the FFC, which personally does not bother me but I could see how it might bother others.
##3282 isn't working for me after yesterday's update. Lets see how I do with the battery today!!!
The earpiece on mine does not work I can't hear anyone and top of phone gets warm I have sent it to nokia repair.

Thanks for the tip!
I also have 5-8% per hour drain. (actual offi. release .1308...)
all off, sync, loaction, WLAN every thing, fresh reboot, phone on my desk, not working with it, about 2 lines H signal.
when i switch to airplane mode....1-2% battery drain over a complete night!
its also no problem to activate airplane mode ON and afterwards WLAN additionally ON, then about 1-4% over a night!
i tried everything i found on the inet.
and i have my white L920 since Dec.12! (i did a "hard" update over PC in Feb. and also the the last release over the air...nothing changed)
so now i'm checking if this works for me and post results
I'm located in AUT with an unlocked, unbranded GER L920.
and we dont have LTE til now...maybee thats the problem..?!

UPDATE:
i solved my battery drain issue by setting my "max network speed" to 2G!
by that i now have a drain of 1-2% p.h.!

That is great. To bad that we whom have received the latest OTA no longer have access to that menu.
really?
I'm on FW 1232.5957.1308.0001
and WPH 8.0.10211.204
I don't need to change the network type within ##3282 menu, also worked for me in normal network settings.

So then how do you set your network speed?
u don't need access to ##3282...its also possible to "limit" within settings/network. (##3282 NOT working within f.e. Rapdialer!!)
I limit it to "2G" only when its more importand to have less battery consumption than inet speed
limited to "2G" in my region it shows me afterwards a "E" on top.
On this PIC i found in the inet is "roaming" deactivated.
I have to activate "roaming" also when I'm within my own network to have inet access (and the "E").
In my town, network operators share their mobile radio transmitters.
I limited direktly at my provider the access to a "real roaming network" for example a swiss network.
Because i'm most of the time near the border
maybee not possible in your version or provider?
I'm on a free GER version.
Definitely trying this tonight.
For the battery drain try light (white) theme. intresting but that help my battery drain problem
Same issue here...Any updates?

My experience is that, I reset the cellphone and after doing this twice and connecting to the internet and waiting for one hour, Microsoft gave me an update for my battery saver and since that time everything is ok, including the battery. I always believed that the updates have problems to be installed completely most of the time, so it's better to reset or download it via the computer and instal it with a cable( using Nokia Software Update). But if it doesn't work, please don't panic. The updates are coming and just be sure that you have reset your device without choosing the setting backup, for you must start afresh. Good Luck.

Mobile Network can't connect after using Wifi (S6 Edge)

I have a bizarre problem that just started happening, I can't connect to mobile network after using a wifi connection for some time. No matter what I do, the S6 edge won't connect.
I've tried switching mobile connection on and off, restarting the phone, turning the phone off and back on, switching sim cards with another phone (the other phone immediately gets connection), switching airplane mode on/off. I've gone to Samsung and my mobile provider and they have both blamed each other (of course, right?). The most frustrating part is that this happens about 50-75% of the time with my home and office wifi, and almost never with anyone else's wifi (for example trying it in the Samsung store). It will sometimes get a connection 10-15 minutes later, sometimes it takes several hours.
Samsung service has offered to take the phone in to 'review and test' but they need to do a full wipe and it will most likely take several days of testing. Knowing that the problem is almost impossible to replicate outside of my home and office, and the issue goes away by the time a service tech will ever see the phone, and the struggle to back up and restore my apps without root, I'm not sure what to do right now. Temporarily I have turned off wifi and just use mobile connection, but I'll hit my monthly data cap really soon.
This started happening 2 weeks after AOE4, just upgraded to AOE8 and it still happens. My phone is SM-G9250 with Taiwan ROM.
Screenshots attached to show I have good signal strength but not data connection, and the SIM in another phone having a connection (Zenfone 5 with lollipop).

Did you try wiping the cache?
I thought the cache is wiped whenever you do OTA update?
I'll do it manually again right now and see if it helps. Thanks for the tip.

I have the same issue! Very annoying, and miss phone calls all the time or am unable to make them because of this...
Will try the cache wipe
Wiped the system cache from Boot, problem still there.
I also wiped the cache for all apps.
I also tried the phone in safe mode and has the same problem.
Sent from my SM-G9250 using XDA Free mobile app
So the only work around I can find is to go into settings:
1.) 'Mobile Networks'
2.) 'Network mode'
3.) Switch to 3g/2g (I don't have 4G right now, have to pay extra for it)
4.) go to 'Network operators'
5.) 'Search Networks'
6.) choose my network provider
Now the phone works just like it always did, smoothly switch between wifi and 3G and H/H+
I'm not sure what changed as I have never had 4G since it costs me extra.

doess someone spying my calls

Hi
My friend gave a phone as gift to me but i think he may used it to hear my calls . is that possible ?
because there is no sim card on it and there is a coverage sign on top and battery finishes so fast and when i disable data connection it will automatically become enable?
i had attached image of my phone
That's normal. Even without a SIMcard the phone still provides access to the emergency network. (112, 911, 999, etc.) Such is a mandatory requirement as per international law.
Put it in airplane mode, that'll disable the mobile antenna. You can then manually turn on every other connection should you require it.
As for a fast battery drain, completely different case. Check for a wakelock.
naah...don't be paranoic man
