Write to external sd card - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am having trouble downloading from online and backing up from titanium backup to the external micro. Do we have to do a sd card write fix? I thought that got rid of that.

Isn't there an app that fixes the issue? Can't believe LG hasn't done something about this yet. This was an issue on the G3 also.

Haven't loaded Tbu yet but for other apps when you go to write to the external SD app there is a prompt to give permission to that app to the SD card.

Go to app store and download NextappSdFix. I had to do the same thing. Just run it, and reboot.

that worked , thanks make123

That fix only works if you are rooted. I have an ATT version of the V10 and (so far) it cannot be rooted.

Some apps will prompt you to select target storage in the system which does not require root (root explorer and andftp support this feature).

A fix for those people who are having problems writing to the microSD Card (as mentioned above). Put the card in a PC and right click on it. "Rename" it or go into properties and "Label" it. On one card I had to format "exFat" & label it.

[Q] SD Card to default storage?

I have been trying to find a way to have everything save on my sd card (the external).
For example, if i download a picture or ringtone from Zedge, it defaults to the internal storage (sdcard).
I want it to download in the external sd card (sdcard2).
Ive read the threads about swapping them but i would really prefer NOT to do it that way.
Anybody out there have a better solution?
HELP!!!!!

I know that you can swap mount points...making your external card the default storage. I don't think there's any other way.
Is there a way to do this without root access, I just want my pinned music in the play music app to download to my sd card instead of internal storage.

I use Gtunes & it lets me choose where I want to download my music to. You might check in the settings & see if it'll let you change the location.
Have you tried settings/storage/storage settings/update all and select sdcard storage?

I know that you can swap mount points but then it just gets too confusing. Especially in TWRP recovery.
I wanted to find a way to do this WITHOUT the swap mount points method.
I think it has something to do with the permissions. But when I try to edit them I keep getting an error message that fails to save permission changes.

After installing TWRP, N3 can't mount SD?

I just installed TWRP on my N3, when it first booted up there were some problems that I've come acrossed. First it made some apps not work..then I went into Astro to move the backup I just did to my external SD, It froze on me while moving the file so I restarted the phone. Now I can't even access my external SD card anymore. It just shows up that I don't have a SD card mounted...Any fix for this?
What I have and what I've done to my N3:
8gb SD card from my old S3
Rooted N3 from Chainfire's post and that's it
Installed TWRP
I have the same problem. I have been searching for 3 days for a solution. I am coming from the g note 2 with 64 gig extreme SanDisk sd card. When i put the sd card back in my note 2 it works fine. This sucks, I hope a solution is posted soon.

I remember reading some where that someone suggested backing up your SD card to your PC, formatting the card in the N3, then moving everything back over to it. Hope it helps...
As far as the 64gb cards.
Remove everything from card.
Format as fat 32.
Replace your files.
Viola.

Use this method and flash a custom deodexed room and problems gone..
1st step
1. Download openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.2-hltespr.img.tar file.
Provide by here http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/hltespr/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.2-hltespr.img.tar
2. Now download an app from playstore call ZArchiver.apk
3. Whit ZArchiver extract the file above and copy the recovery.img
4. Next Save the recovery.img file in the SD ..
2nd step
Download flashify app
3rd step
Open the app call Flashify and Find the recovery.img in the SD and flash it
4 step
Nothing to do just reboot and you will see the magic.....
Hope you like my method this is my first post...

Best bet would be like others suggested, backup the SD to PC, reformat card and try again. [Have you tried other directory explorers ? I use Root Explorer with no issues]
I am using my 64GB card from my E4GT [S2] with no reformatting required and no problems what so ever [so far -- knock on wood]

If nothing can read [detect] the card then it is dead, kill it with fire to make sure the data is 10000000% destroyed :[
The issue is as on now TWRP cannot read exfat. Most SD cards are formatted in exfat by default. You will not be able to reformat the card on windows 7/8 machines in fat32 with out a third party program. Easiest way to reformat your card to fat32 is go to TWRP recovery and choose wipe. It will auto format your card to fat32. "be sure you backed up anything on your card prior to wipe". After you see the card has been wiped go back to install in TWRP and you will be able to choose your sd card.

may have screwed myself (s4) just now..

went to flash a new rom and was running low on storage space so i went into twrp and wiped everything including sd card and internal. So the catch is i had the new rom i was going to flash on my external. now im pretty sure if i exit twrp there will be nothing for the phone to boot on too.. and i have no way of putting anything on my sd card..
what can i do?
Use adb and a computer to push the file onto your phone. There should be a setting in TWRP to allow the phone to be seen by adb.

A usb card reader could help. Or find a friend with a phone that takes sd cards.

This is definitely the next best option if you're not comfortable with adb.

SD card not enough space?

Hey guys I'm having an issue with setting my sd card as my download directory, when I set it to external sd and try to download anything wether it be a picture or a document I get Message saying their is not enough space cannot finish download, now I thought it might be my sd card going bad so I went out and purchased a New one 64GB, old one was 32gb but I'm still getting the same message, I can set it to internal memory dl the file and then transfer it to my sd after just fine so I know now it's not an sd issue.
Anyone have a solution to this issue or advice on what I should try thanks
Btw I'm using boat browser if it matters

You could try the app SDFix by NextApp in the Play Store. It's free.
- Tapatalked from the G3 -
OP - Are you rooted?
KitKat has issues with access to microSD depending on what you are doing.
You will need to enable full access to SD.
Look in the root thread ot use Xposed with Tweakbox.

Yes I am rooted, All I'm trying to do is set the sd card as my dl directory, so files save to my sd card and not internal memory.
I have xpososed as well as tweak box already installed

boat browser is not a privileged app. It will not write everywhere on the sdcard with default kitkat privileges. you can change them manually or since you are rooted use an app like sdfix or an xposed module to do the change for you.
more details here
http://www.droidviews.com/restore-write-capability-to-external-sd-card-on-kitkat-manually/
I have the same problem with the internal card. i can't download anything off of playstore anymore because it says insufficient memory. I am going to have to flash the stock b06 thing and start over. blows. Oh and there is like 12 gig available on the internal card and I dont see any other way around it. Maybe after refreshing I will be able to implement the newest root method and that will clear it up. Also I DON'T have a problem saving random objects to the samsung evo 64gb (omg you have to get one) because I did the kitkat fix and it worked fine.

(Q) Unable to take screen shots

No matter if im on kitkat or lollipop, Im unable to take a screen shot. Has anyone encountered this?
On kitkat, there is a popup that says "cannot copy, file damaged". On lollipop , the popup states, "insufficient space (i have plenty) or "it isnt allowed by your app or you organization". Any help would be appreciated.

Are you trying to write to the external SD card? If so, are you rooted? If not, writing to the external SD card is limited unless you're rooted and you change the security via a change to the build.prop file in the /system partition.
If you are rooted and have opened up write access to the external SD card, maybe your SD card is corrupted? How old is it and how often do you write to it? SD cards have limited lifespan and their effectiveness decreases with each and every write you do to it. It could take up to a year, but eventually, depending on how often you write to it, it will fail and files will become corrupted.
All the messages you posted make it sound like you are definitely trying to write to the external SD card and unless you have unlocked it (there is an app for this in the store but you have to be rooted to make the change), apps cannot write to the SD card, especially cameras UNLESS the camera has a setting that allows it to and it was updated correctly to work with the new KK security settings for external SD cards.

You may be rooted, but did you apply the patch to allow writing to the external sd card? Just because you are rooted doesn't mean it will work still. The app itself isn't running as root. You have to apply the write to external SD card patch.
I believe I mentioned that in my post to you.
You can get the app here which requires you to be rooted (which you are):

Some apps may not have been updated to notify Android to use the new permissions to write to an SD card. This might be one of them. Not sure which app it is.
I know the stock camera with the G3 can write to the external SD card because it asks for the correct permissions. The permissions most apps asked for BEFORE KitKat no longer work. There is a new permission they have to ask for and if they don't, then Android won't allow the app to modify the contents on the SD Card. Until the app is updated to ask using the new permission, it will not work.
That is what it sounds like.

I have the same problem. I tried other screenshot apps, 2 different roms, and removing the sdcard to force a write to the internal memory. A file does get written, but I cannot open it or even copy it to my computer's desktop. The file cannot be deleted by the gallery app. If I hook the phone to my computer I can drag the screenshot to the trash and delete it that way.
