How is the phone? - Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

I was thinking of buying this phone, since my Xperia Z(Tmobile) doesn't get good signal on 4g.
I also heard the phone was bad with overheating and slow when playing games.
I don't playing games on my phone, I just use normal apps.
My Xperia Z is fast enough, but slow LTE speed is a pain.
I mostly want this phone because it looks like a Xperia Z3 but thinner.
Back is not glass like Z3.
Has band 12 for tmobile.
Is waterproof and micro-USB/ headphone jack is exposed.
Screen looks A LOT better than my old TFT screen on my xperia Z.
Also these videos lol
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9kYwLmsF6Y
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jH3VC0aOEU
I would never do that to my phone, but nice to know.
So is it faster than my xperia Z?
I mean the Xperia Z had heating issues on 5.0, but once 5.1.1 came out, it ran cooler and less battery drain.
Any opinions on the phone and whether it's faster than Xperia Z for basic app switching and video.

M4 is much better and faster than Z (my friend have it), the only problem is not enough free space by sony preinstalled apps. but with root it can be fixed easilly

My honest opinion as M4 aqua owner... avoid it.

doesn't necessarily need root, latest update more or else u can have 2GB+ free, clear cache on first boot u get 3GB+, which is almost the highest possible space able to get

Yes, it is.

I am getting 16gb USA version. I looked up some info on specs and looks like Sd 615 on M4 is faster than the S4 Pro on Xperia Z. Bought M4 for $220, looks to be a decent price?

the 16 GB seems the only possibile choiche...right?
Inviato dal mio Xperia SP utilizzando Tapatalk

Yeah, Android has issues when storage is almost full. Also you need 1-2gb for Cache, since it adds up the more you use it.

Great phone if you have 16Gb version, I love this phone but with the 8Gb version I have it absolutely sucks I have to try and scavenge storage almost daily sucks more because normally we have 14 day returns on stuff in this country, I found this issue out about 3 hours after buying it but when you get it from a shop in the UK you don't have a right to return!!! I was supposed to have it mail order from EE but they cocked up and didn't sent it so I end up in a shop as I needed a phone ASAP. To top it off I can't unlock it either because its bootloader locked just to annoy me even more!
Moral of the story, check reviews and be wary of operator stores aka order it mail order in the UK so you at least have a cooling off period.

Can anyone check if the phone has audio settings?
My Z has the x-loud,sound effects, Dynamic Normalizer, and ClearAudio+
Does this have any of these on the music app?

ClearAudio+, Dynamic Normalizer and Equalizer, no X-loud

Got the phone, so far don't notice performance issues compared to Xperia Z. Use it a little more and see how it runs then.

will marshmallow solve the 8gb issue? or better to avoid completely the 8gb version?
Inviato dal mio Xperia SP utilizzando Tapatalk

I think it will solve this Problem, because with marshmallow you can combine the internal storage with your Sd card

Absolute rubbish. My Nexus 4 died unfortunately, and my budget was limited so I got M4 Aqua as a replacement.
There are no words to describe how much better Nexus is (was?), the phone from 2012!
So far, the only good point is the battery.
I sincerely hope that the lag will be fixed with Marshmallow, or at least that there are some debloated ROMs here on XDA, 'cause phone out of the box borderlines on unusable.

Do we have the same phone? Mine has no major lag issues. Maybe 1-2 delay when opening apps

Hi,
I'm really surprised. Mine is a E2333 (16GB, dual Sim) unlock without any operator bloatware, and it runs really fast. I also activated STAMINA mode for both standby and Extended Usage(Limits CPU Clock) and on my games (the only cpu intensive one is Flight Pilot - others are Sudoku , ...etc) , the only thing that i notice is 2-3 seconds longer loading time of the game.
In other apps i don't have any problem either.

I have Xperia Aqua M4 8GB from Vodafone UK. After the upgrade to 26.1.A.2.167 got more free space - so far enough for me. At this price point (paid 100GBP (PAYG) + 4GBP unlock) hard to complain (I don't play processor/graphics intensive games though). In some places/countries it sells for more; For sure for 150-200GBP you would find something better. Waiting for a root method without unlocking bootloader and Android 6, but can live without those for now.

Well, for me it's not games or anything (actually, the phone lagged right out of the box!), but interface, especially when switching screens and pulling down notifications (sorry if I seem confusing - English is not my first language) is choppy as hell! And everything seems so slow, comparing to my old Nexus 4. It only gets better when I kill all recently used apps. But seriously, that's what I used to do when I had Sony Sola with 512 MB RAM! I seriously doubt that this is normal behavior for a phone with 2 GB RAM and 8 core processor.
I just hope that Sony fix it with Marshmallow, news seem promising.

Xperia Active Compatibility Question

Hello everyone,
I am planning to buy a rugged android phone and I have two phones in mind: Defy+ and Xperia Active. I am much more leaning towards Xperia Active, but before that I had few questions in my mind that I wanted clear.
First: Is the 3 inch screen size of active enough? Because these days there is a craze of large screen phones so I am confused. Any xperia active users can share their experience?
Secondly: Here I am getting the live view device with xperia active in the box, first I thought this is a gud device but after checking out the reviews of live view I was a bit dissappointed. Is it true that if the xperia active phone is away from the live view device the clock on the live view resets?
But now when I saw mototola motoactv I was really impressed by it. So my question is:
If I buy xperia active and motoactv, will motoactv work with xperia active? Or it only works with motorola devices?
Because I have made up my mind to buy motoactv, now I am just confused with which smartphone to buy? If it works with xperia active I would go with it or else I will have to settle with motorola defy+.
Any help or suggestions?
review
At first I don't have Motorola actv neither defy.
But can say few good words for SE Xperia Active.
I am quite outdoors person and the things I need outdoors:
GPS, compass would be nice, flashlight.
For these I use programs like OsmAnd, Androxic, c:geo and SE compass. SE Flashlight too.
For indoor I use e-mail, browser, Mobile Parking.
So I really don't need the data connection outdoors (3G, Edge) and I've switched them off (also prolongs the battery). It is also very nice feature to have a camera, that works even underwater within the phone.
And let's not forget the calling - most important.
The main question is the purpose You use the phone - for helping tool or for entertainment?
For watching movies etc. is the screen of active too small, but I prefer to watch the movies from my 40" smartLED-TV. And for that Active has option to enable the Dlna or UPnP.
But for calling, GPS, and texting it's ok.
And in my opinion very good thing is to have everything in one piece - less gadgets to loose outdoors - without worrying that device gets wet.
Hey thanks for the review on xperia active...
My primary purpose of the phone would be texting/playing some good android games...and apart from that the phone should also be rugged...that`s why I am leaning towards xperia active.
Anyways, as you are using the xperia active, did you get live view gadget with it? If u have it, can you please share your experience with it?
I got mine with LiveView. It's a Billabong Edition Xperia Active.
I think the package varies per country.
liveview
Unfortunately I have no liveview.
But rugget the unit is! Belive me.Only thing is, I havent tested the shock resistancy yet. I didn't dare
Thou I'v tested it in water and it works fine.
Also I'm not into games mutch, the Angrybirds work fine in Active. Also Tommy the talking cat makes my children happy.
Graphics are very good probably due to MoblieBravia engine.

Then you should get a 4" phone and a rubber-case.
The Active is too small for texting and horrible for games.
I love my Active, but my primary uses are cycling under all weather conditions, running and listening to music/audiobooks.
That's where the Active shines.
Actualy this phone is great. Is not fast as a Mini, but performance is good for games, ant the fact that it can support the most hard conditions... :-D only complaint, battery life I fell is to short compared to a mini or a mini pro, anyone think the same? Any thoughts?
Enviado desde mi ST17a usando Tapatalk
LiveView syncs with the phone meaning it will loose the time if it drops the connection with the phone.
Xperia active is a very good phone for outdoor use. I've tried it in water and it works fine. It's not marketed to be more durable than other phones but looking at these videos it's pretty clear it can endure pretty much force.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/12/2...gainst-a-stanley-knife-hammer-and-jeep-video/
Since the phone's warranty does not mention this I would be more careful than the guy in these videos though.
I'm currently using Xperia arc but I've tried active for about a week. I play a lot of games and for that arc is much better in comparison.

Using the stok Rom and rooted, no more tweaks, games like nova 2 hd or FIFA 2012 run smoothly, of course, the screen is small, but, the fact that can run those games, it means that this is a very powerful phone, a Mini that is water resistant. Great phone, worth every penny, very happy with it. I hope that Sony release a devise that upgrade this one, (like x10 mini to an Xperia Mini) something like "Active Plus" I'll buy it in a second...

you can overclock by unlocking the bootloader (use with precaution, and truly do read how to), root and install custom kernel and Spartan Rom from dumraden B-) ;-) recommended.
this thing is fast. it plays anything. took me some time to get used to it. first android phone actually. hope to reach 3000 score in the quadrant benchmark.
without overclock it runs like a charm.
+1 for active.

It doesn't matter how fast it is, if your primary purpose is texting/gaming it's just f*cking retarded to use a 3" phone for that.

Well he's right. Coming from a 3.7" phone, the active is way too small for gaming... And texting.... well lets say i do loads of typos due to my fat fingers
BUT... Its the best rugged smartphone out there. Apart from the Casio GZone Commando. That thing is a beast. But i dont think its got an unlocked bootloader. Thats also why i backed off from getting the Defy+... Moronic Motorola...
Not only that... The hardware is great. Is a great smartphone. And I like the fact that is small.

Upgrading to Xperia S

Ok guys, sorry to post this here but there's no where else right now.
I am so excited about the Xperia S, it isn't funny!! The dual core processor and 1gb internal memory is huge and just what this phone needs!
Who else is excited about this phone, what could be the pros and cons against the Arc?
Let me know what you think,
CheerS D
Not really excited.
Look at the "old" SGS II or newer Galaxy Note. They should beat the Xperia S. And no, I'm not a Sammy fanboy.
Dualcore, 1GB RAM. Xperia S isn't new.
Cons:
No sd card slot
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
Another cons:
Design and price. Haha

Price is totally a pro and not a con.
Imo cons are:
No sd card slot
non removeable battery
not as sexy as the Arc (couldn't be possible )
Pros:
Everything else.

but he asked with the comparison to arc. So arc definitely wins in term of price.
Xperia S over arc:
- Higher resolution screen.
- Supposedly better camera + 1080p video.
- Dual-core processor.
- Big RAM.
- 32 GB internal memory.
- Design has that "wow" factor especially with that transparent glass in the middle and 3 LED lights in it.

Xperia arc over S:
- Lighter.
- Thinner.
- More affordable.
- MicroSD card slot.
Things that matter me the most are the processor and high screen resolution. Mind you, I watch 4-5 hours of HD (720p/1080p) video content on my phone every day and not having to reencode them would be very helpful, so your needs will differ.

I'd get the SGS II if it's not running TouchWiz. Currently I'm thinking of getting a Galaxy Nexus. Upgrading to Xperia S would yield me an equal-sized screen and Xperia ion's out of reach (since it's US only).
quite disappointed when heard that Xperia S has no microSD slot and changeable battery. i will hold my arc until another model moves me

upto 1.8GB for App Storage,
32GB Internal memory via eMM
people keep getting this wrong and before you ask how i know i used the phone at CES and its also plastered across the white paper available from the SE Dev World.
The Phone is great and i cant wait to get my own as soon as my rep drops its off.
Why can't they just improve the battery .... Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX has 3300 mAh battery without affecting the size of the device ... I really wish Xperia S had that battery
Xperia S
-Bravia Engine
-4.3" 720x 1280(342ppi) Reality Display
-1.5Ghz Dual-core
-Adreno 220 GPU
-1GB Ram
-1.8GB Internal Memory(User Available)
-32GB eMMC(Embedded Memory)
-12MP Exmor-R with 1080p Video and Fast Capture
-1.3MP Front Camera with 720p Video
-Anti Stain Shell(Dirt Repellent and UV Active)
-Fast Charge Capability(Pro's of non replaceable battery)
-NFC, GLONASS, WIFI Direct, Gyro
-Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
-PlayStation Certified(It's getting some Traction now lots of PS1 Games and some PSP Games Available)
-Price is just Right

What stopping you from buying an Xperia S? No Micro SD card slot and a Replaceable Battery?
but for me I think that 32GB is Big enough for me, including the 1.8GB for the Apps to be installed, My Arc got 16GB and I have lots of HD Games and 720p Video's I still have 3GB free
and having a non replaceable battery is not all Cons
I rarely remove my Battery and Micro SD Card, the only time I removed the Battery and Micro SD Card when i upgraded it to 16GB and Inserted my SIM

Hi guys thanks for your replies, by the way, in a girl
I am mostly excited for the internal memory upgrade, better battery and dual core processors. In all honesty my arc is laggy at times, the battery only lasts a day, and I'm tired of no front facing camera. These were the things that excited me the most, the design is nice too. Don't get me wrong I do love my arc, it just seems to be slow at times, I have no idea how to use custom roms for it either

There'll be another method to do this.
Maybe a long press power button, maybe something else.
I'll probably wait for the performance of Arc when it runs official ICS. If it's good enough for me then I guess I'll have to skip xperia s and stick with arc for a little longer until SE releases quad core and renew my data contact.

Micro-SIM is much worse than no card slot for me. Now sony is copying iphone pathetic there is no excuse for having micro-sim and non replaceable battery in a relatively thick phone.
Infact given the thickness of this phone there should have been bigger battery as well.

Are you satisfied with your Z Ultra?

I'd really like to have one, but there are a couple of issues: The screen...if I bought a used one, for example, can I get the warranty honored? Secondly, the SOD: Has it been solved?

I'm very happy with my two (one as a incar GPS/test box). Good luck on warranty on a used one, Sony here in NZ didn't want to know for my second one (I brought it broken), although they are a gray import here.
The sleep of death was solved a long time ago on one of the 4.2 updates. There is 4.4.4 kicking around noe.
Yes, i am very satisfied with Z Ultra. Nope the chances for me to go back to small screen is very much gone... Unless no Z2 Ultra in the future.
But as of now, Z Ultra is really great. never got satisfied more than this. Battery Life might need to be better but 5 hour real time screen time average is very respectable for such screen size and power engine
Short answer: Yes. Very. I'll probably stick with it for another year (have had mine for around 10 months now).
horribly glitchy, unpredictable, can't depend on it, countless small little annoyances everywhere
but every android phone is like that... at least this one has a huge screen and is rather fast so yeah i guess

YES, I AM
Except when I'm learning now how to create a custom recovery...
And I don't understand anything, I locked back my bootloader... Still rooted on stock .108
I'm trying to create a website dedicated for this C6833
To avoid any confusion between the Z1 and our Z Ultra
(even if they are pretty close the same)
(I'm recreating a new account on XDA because I forgot my old one, and those 10 posts minimum gets me very angry)
I am very happy with my C6802 almost 11 months after getting it (bought it early August last year). It is still unsurpassed and despite about three weeks before root was possible (vRoot unfortunately), the arrival of GPe got things going.
It is the best phablet made to this date; I don't consider any other device close beside the Oppo Find 7. The only thing I am worried about is the lack of any successor rumor or even information about upcoming devices in the same category. The only competitors I know about right now is the Oppo N1 and Huawei Ascend Mate 2, both with weaker hardware.
My requirements for a new device is Snapdragon 810/815, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage, 6.5-7 inch screen, keyboard cover as an option, camera not important (have the QX10 for that), microSDXC slot and... either Google vanilla/Android Silver or CM-based. Sony implementation is OK.
I guess next year will bring those things to the table but it would be great with some decent phablets this fall since it would indicate that the segment is alive and well. Right now, the Ultra is in a class of its own and any other device means compromising on the core: a solution that is a true tablet replacement with great software.
Edit: The GPe ROM paired with Xposed Framework and optimized Dalvik libraries (compensating for the ART/Xposed issue) make the Ultra a completely superior phablet. I have tried the Note 3 (which is hyped as being such a great device) several times and it is far, far behind the Ultra in every aspect besides the camera. The best features of it such as multiwindow is available on the Ultra through Xposed and it works great.

I'm afraid that we have no better choice for the replacement. So for me just hoping that this ultra's battery can last as long as possible and whenever it doesn't hold any more charge, hopefully Sony still have the sparepart. Or you know, xperia z2 with modded 400 ppi would be nice.
Lenovo? Yeah right, like you don't need any Android update at all.

The lenovo has no microsd-slot
I think the lenovo is the only real alternative. Everything else is of lower spec. But having said that the present ultra doesn't really need to be upgraded imo. Specs are plenty good enough to run everything I throw at it and never really feel lags as such. So why waste the money?! But then again even I can't help myself but have a change

Hi all
I'm sorry xerox but after hard playing on asphalt 8, i get this result.
And your result is take when the CPU is tested with a stress test, not in real utilisation.
So keep the alpha
Its up to you. I've had all the Sony line up (ive had pretty much all Android flagships except the Alpha, which I just bought last week). The Sony will heat up and after use for 4-6 months beit from charging overnight or playing games and the back will become loose meaning it is not waterproof. the phone will still work though so that's up to you. I just did not like the loose back which Sony have only fixed on the Z5. Another thing is if you do wear skinny jeans the phone does start to creak after a while after being under stress from you moving around.
I love my little Alpha and build quality is brill. Both phones are really snappy but I prefer developing stuff for Samsungs with Exy chips.
This is all from experience and not someone who hasn't tried the phone. I do like the Sonys though and have development quite a few ROMs for them

Hello thx for the opinion. I need to ask in terms of performance , camera, and th and build quality screen etc you still preffer Alpha?
The display on the alpha is an amoled type which is good for viewing under sunlight and in normal place i think it produced unreal color(I always switch to basic mode) but the Z3 has an Ips display which is not really good under sunlight but in normal place i think the color is pretty decent(Prefer the z3).The performance of the snapdragon 801 is better than the exynos on the alpha(prefer the z3).The camera on both is pretty decent and can capture 4k video(prefer the z3).Both have a 32gb internal memory but the z3 has an expandable memory card(prefer the alpha 32gb is enough for me).The alpha use touchwiz which has full of bloatware and it use alot of ram,the z3 use sony UI which has very little bloatware and lighter than touchwiz (prefer CyanogenMod). Dev support for the alpha is suck because it use exynos processor (no driver plus not alot of dev use the alpha) and the z3 has tons of roms to flash beside there are alot of dev keep developing a rom for that device .Both probably get an official android marshmallow update from their manufacturer. For the design I prefer the Alpha design(Cus I've use the Z1 compact before and the design on the z3 is pretty much the same). The Alpha has fingerprint sensor the Z3 doesnt, the z3 is waterproof the alpha doesnt.Decided by your self

Hi
For me the Alpha is in the best 2014 phones.
Good photos,
VERY VERY GOOD performance with his octo core Exynos 5430 processor ( For me Exynos 5430 is besser than S801 )
The screen is very good for a 720p and the built quality is excellent, no cracks or shocks after one year.
You can make your choice
