Oneplus 2 sold with adware - OnePlus 2 General

A few weeks ago I bought the Oneplus 2 64Gb on the rather controversial website gearbest (chinese). I had a discount coupon, and got the phone for a pretty good price, slightly north of 300 bucks. The phone was delivered within 4 days (from UK to Italy) despite the website being pretty lame with payment methods. What surprised me is that the phone was obviously shipped with some adware/malware on it. I did not login my google account, and went for a full format/wipe and reinstall within 2 minutes from switching it on. In general I am pretty happy with the phone now (also given that in Italy nexus 6p still has to ship, and it's priced 700+Euros), but I am shocked to see 1+ delivered with malware.
I mean, they even pretend to have an invite system etc, but how can it then sell (without invite) trough such an bad retailer that installs malware? Had I been a completely beginner user who does not know about fastboot commands, probably I would still be stuck with the s**t they provided.
Anybody else having similar experiences? Anybody knows if it's possible that they also compromised low-level firmware to add some track-ware?

If Hydrogen OS was installed it's pretty normal that there is plenty of Chinese bloatware.

It was on Oxygen, with some added apps that just popped up ads and tracked the user. I mean, ads pop up full screen with some frequency on your phone, and you need to click to send them away. Maybe I was spoiled by nexus devices then, but it looked like ridiculous to me.

I'm also ordered my 1+2 4 weeks ago, camed with bloatware and OxygenOS 2.0.2. Terrible service, will not ever again buy from here any device.

This pretty much is the reason. If I've understood it right, u shouldn't buy OP anywhere else than from Oneplus. Kind of same as u would buy Iphone from some shady Chinese site and then blame Apple for malware/bloatware.

I am not blaming OnePlus, not strongly at least. Indeed I am very happy with the phone, and finally I think I got a good deal for it. On Amazon it costed 150E more. I just wanted to know if the same thing happened to somebody else. Just, I cannot understand their marketing practice: gearbest had 30 phones in stock in UK and many more in China, but users need an invite to get one. It's hardly optimal to give priority to 'shady Chinese' retailer.
The only thing I can really blame on OnePlus is that their online software distribution is a bit weird. For instance one cannot download an official Oxygen 2.1, but has to start Oxygen 1.0 and then OTA to 2 and 2.1. It's fine, just it's not the same as nexus.

If you'd buy it with an invite via oneplus, there's no malware or bloatware installed!

Can confirm this.

But really what seems to be the problem? You can clean flash OP2 without any issues. If you are looking to buy a device for a reduced price or without an invite, there might be a draw back. Clean flash and enjoy

I'm have same version, Chinese, but with a clean install of stock Oxygen OS, nothing of what you say is present.

Guys, take this as an habit, every time you buy a new phone (furthermore a "Google Experienced Device" such as Nexus, OnePlus, etc), factory reset + flash a clean firmware (those clean firmware are always on device's forum): it's ridiculously easy on this type of device ! So yeah, it's annoying when it's happened, but in content, that's not the most sh*ity about it!

I was wondering if rooting or installing custom firmware lowers the resale value of the phone. Personally I will not buy a non factory default used phone.

Not that I am thinking of selling, but I would always restore the original firmware before selling.
I would not buy a phone with no warranty due to custom rom or rooting .

I guess it really depends on the individual...
Who wouldn't want a phone if its all ready and booted, plus if its on the latest Android version.
I would say when you are selling give option to buyer that If they so wish you could root it for them and put the latest Android version ( if the official is not on latest), and make sure they email you the request just to cover your back.
I sure most will be pleased
It depends how you look at it or who you're selling to. If the process isn't simple or might confuse a non-techie then it may be seen as a plus, when it comes to Android though (In particular the S2) then it's probably best to return it to stock. The easy solution is to offer both stock and a custom rom when selling and make it clear that the warranty is fully intact with either (Assuming you use a usb jig and do things by the book).

If you think of it as if you were buying a car: would you choose the car that had been modified and overclocked(thus straing the motor) by the boyracer which went really quick, had flashy lights but was prone to quirks?
Or
Would you buy the one that was unmodified, wasnt as flashy but got you from a to b with no drama and was still eligible for repair under warranty.
I recently sold my HTC HD2, in the ads i had i stated in no uncertain terms that it was running on Android Gingerbread but if the buyer wished i could flash it back to default WINMO or even Windows 7 if they like but i did recommend that they leave it as it is as the HD2 runs Android perfectbly and HTC should really have initially installed Android on it, every enquiry i had said they would prefer Android on it and the person who finally purchased it said he wanted me to leave Android on it so there you go everyones different, if your buying a new or nearly new phone it might be different but if your buying an older phone it's different.

I guess we are talking about second hand here so yeah I would prefer the modification ( which I might have to pay for If I did on my own), and its not necessary that something that's modified might be bad, it could be for the better as well , the reason why most people modify things be it car or mobile or anything else.
And I did mention about giving the buyer an option.
On the other hand if I was a Brand NEw product obviously everyone wants it unmodified or tampered with

In fairness mate there's a massive difference between selling a car and a phone i get what you are saying but you cannot really compare the two.
I have found on ebay that some rooted phones running custom roms can fetch up to $100 more.Guess paying for the convenience/not confident I'm themselves

It was just a rough analogy, i wasnt actually comparing them, seeing as they are different items, just the buyer experience.
When i first tried selling my htc hero(last year), it was running a 2.2 froyo custom rom, and i ended up having to relist it, adter having restore it back to stock 2.1 .
Me personally, i would prefer to buy a phone that was running stock, purely because that way you know what you are getting, without having to guess what the previous owner has bodged.
Just to point out, I have no problem with running custom roms. I run villain on my sgs2, and overcome on my tab 7".
I depends on buyers preferences. I would prefer a good custom rom to stock for example ...
You might get more from an unexperienced user which does not want to do custom roms / root by himself, but I think in usual cases you get same as a "stock" device or even less, as we still do not know whether there is an additional custom firmware counter which cannot be reset by the jig. And as there are people who even do not know what "root" ist, they might feel unsure when buying the pre-rooted device.
I've rooted mine and it would not have changed anything if my devices had come pre-rooted. I would have reflashed firmware and do the root by myself anyway.
Has anyone had there warranty declined due to the flash counter?
And if its past its warranty period anyway, it wouldn't matter to much to me.
I wouldn't buy a phone that had been over-clocked for a long time, but there's far more uses of root than just OC'ing.

At what level it fails? Usually it is bootloader and modem.
Simply extract system.img and boot.img from old firmware, make tar and try to flash should work.
Or void warranty and flash custom rom

Been a fee guys here have tried it and it failed.
I agree with you its likely the bootloader but if you extract as mentioned i wonder if that will remove the 60% battery cap?
Your updated rom still has the battery cap if on an affected device if Im not mistaken. People want to remove that 60% battery cap so they can use their devices normally until replacements come

Of course my rom have it and intentionally I have keep it there as safety measures, Samsung have recommended.
Still users can extent it to 80% and which is I believe fine too. It's very easy to fake safe battery and possible to get ability to charge fully (I posted in other thread) on even latest base but this will mislead by enabling green battery so not to implement for safety purpose.

In some countries there is no official replacement program. I am about to have the limitation like forever. A solution to downgrade would be perfect.
Try doing a factory reset, it worked for me. But, don't know if it works for everyone.

Look by yourself in Samsungt official websites. See in how many countries they have representations. Look specially in africa. It's a very few countries. If you dig into news in sub Saharan africa, it's only in Nigeria where officials made a statement to question samsung about what they were planning regarding the country. And they threatened to ban samsung products. It's only in this case that they came up with a plan. Have a global look. In plenty countries there are no samsung official shops. Shops are just branded samsung because they order a lot. But there is no official link between these shops and samsung itself. So there is no recall or replacement plan. I even bought the phone in a cross border country. The guys apparently travelled by themselves to get 3 units in in dubaï. They are not willing to move a finger for me.
I have a limited phone for nothing. No solution to get it replaced.
See for yourself. Dig into samsung system and see by yourself how is the global situation related to replacement program.
It's not all about USA and Europe. It's a whole world concern.
Community has to do something for people like me.
I am not asking for a green battery icon. I am asking for a way to get my 100% battery back. And a way to have a custom rom. I think they even limited the phone's capacities because it suddenly became one of the worst samsung unit I had since note 3. I never saw a phone so slow since note 2.

Flashing HTC One ME (m9et)

So I got this Chinese version One ME. Since the firmware is some China Mobile modded system, its pretty useless as it is (no Google services etc...). From what I read the India firmware (0PLAIMG_HIMA_ACE_ML_DTUL_L50_SENSE70_hTC_Asia_India_1.11.720.6_Radio_1.1506V24P21.2008.0505_HDT[W.T]_release_437175_signed) should work on it. But I am stuck at the upgrade...
The phone is brand new, not used, not setup beyond putting going through the process to start it. I put the firmware on an SD card. I renamed the file to '0PLAIMG.zip' and put it in the root directory of the SD card. I then rebooted in Download mode and get to choose Vol up to initiate the flashing process. I then hit Power key to confirm.
However instead of going through the process, the screen goes blank - It switches off. I can reboot it to the normal system, but I cannot flash it.
I am wondering...
1. is this firmware not going to work?
2. Do I need to do a S-Off (and how do I do this? dont have a Windows machine)
3. Does it need a SIM card inside for it to update the firmware
4. Am I missing something else?
any help much appreciated!

thanks, but as I mentioned I dont have access to a Windows PC. Whats this 'Recoveru' ? Is this a spelling error - meant to say Recovery? If so, where do I find a Recovery that works with this phone?
Thanks for correcting the spelling Error. My God I could Have Got arrested And Been jailed for About Eternity For That or Worse Hanged Till death.
Thank you for enlightening Me with the Gracious Knowledge of English.
You saved My Life And For That. Now To The Post.
Let's First Consider the chinese phones they have a completely different user interface and very often also a different hardware that better fits the Chinese mobile networks and might not work as well outside of China.
Google is also blocked in China, therefore you won't be able to access most google services on a Chinese phone and there is no google app store in the Chinese phone. For that reasons,Chinese phones are NOT SOLD outside of China.
People based outside of China should buy the ROW version of the phone.
Unfortunately, some people buy the Chinese phones, root them, modify them, add bloatware, and sell them online to customers outside of China.
Unsurprisingly, phones that are modified in such a way do not run the original version of the software intended by Lenovo. Cannot be updated to new software release, or if you update them you will end up with Chinese firmware.
Now for your Phone Custom Recoveries and ROMs are available But They Will also End Up Like The ROM.
But If the countries Have Matched Hardware Or The Phones are Specifically Designed For Your Area You might Succeed In Doing So.
But With Some Major Changes To the Hardware could Result In Some Bad Manner.
Now You can Backup your firmware on a PC and try To Unlock Your Phone Then Flash The Firmware.

Having Exotic Hardware Do Mean Exotic Experience(Sometimes not In a good way)
Having a Chinese Device Doesn't mean You can't flash a Different Regional Firmware On it.Maybe The Firmware files Got Mixed During Downloading(Correct Term Corrupted).Sometimes It do Work.I had a Note 3 a Few Years Ago.I bought it during a Trip to KSA It had a Different Firmware KSA version to be Specific,I just Downloaded My region's Firmware and Flashed It via Odin.No Unlocking bootloader no S-off no storage Protection that is why I do prefer Samsung Or Nexus Over other Companies Due to Their Open Source Software and Having a Unlocked Bootloader and hardware Being Literally Identical In Different Regions.

fake galaxy s9+

OK, so my wife recently bought an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9+ from an individual on facebook for $400. At first I thought man that's cheap. Then I actually got hold of it. First I notice the OS is old and ninth ng like my s8+. Dual sim, lot of options and settings missing. Plug it into my laptop and it says that the portable device only has 5.38g memory. But the phone actually has 128g and in the USB options itbalso has an option for built in cd-rom.. Anyway its a fake. How do I go back and put the real s9+ software/firmware on it?
The first way to notice if your galaxy s9 is fake is open the camera app and then pro mode and switch between the f/1.5 and the 2.4 and see if it actually does something. In case that your were ripped off, i'm sorry to tell you, you can't put the original/real software on it

Thanks for the reply. That was a lot quicker than I expected to see a response. Anyway..Well d#*! it. Most everything on it is just like the galaxy but it has old android version. What about upgrading it to the 8.0 Oreo at least. I've tried contacting the individual but since the first message we sent regarding it the person either blocked us or deactivated the account. So....... Hit a brick wall there.
Why would you buy a s9+ for 400 in the first place?
you cannot upgrade to oreo because you don't know what is the correct firmware for you device.. since it's a fake it probably won't have any customer support or future updates

What you bought is NOT a Samsung device, its probably a Chinese clone with inferior hard- and software. If you we`re even able to flash firmware with Odin which i doubt you`re device would be nothing more then a 400 USD paper weight. Better file a complaint with the police if the buyer on FB sold the device as a genuine Samsung S9+, because this is fraud and a lie.
Can you post a screenshot of /settings/ Telephone info/software data. Or get AIDA64 from the playstore for the phone info.

Why would you buy a s9+ for 400 in the first place?

Well I didn't my wife did. and because last year when the s8 came out I had pre-ordered my s8+ from Samsung. the about a month after the release found a listing on facebook for a (Straight Talk) s8+ for $400. was fully legit still in the box. but she got duped this time.

Thanks for the reply. Ive never rooted or done any modding other than unlocking my gs8+. So I figured it was worth a shot to ask. When its plugged into the computer and you click properties it says its a Samsung SM-G9600.

Install AIDA64 from the PlayStore for device info and look for /system/modelnumber. You can insert any model number specification in the build.prop, that doen`t make it true though.

Yeah I've figured out they it's not true Samsung. I would post screenshots or pics but can't figure out how. I see an image icon but when i hit it. It asks for image url instead of letting me select them.
i just wonder why you keep trying installing new firmware on a device you know for sure is 100% fake and obviously not an s9+ (not even samsung i bet). can I ask what you're up to? i would personally track that bastard down and beat him like Negan did to Glenn.

Ii'm posting pics. They swore and promised that it was true galaxy S9+. But I knew something wasn't right within about 10 seconds of seeing it myself. Which was later that evening when she got it that morning. . When i noticed iti tried to geton and send them a message and they had already deactivated the account. So she just got stuck with it. Even though it's s fake it does haves lot of the features and features of a s9 so just trying to see if there's s way to at least changer it to a newer android version.. download the aida64

Yes it's fake but despite the fact that it is she gott stuck with it. And she still likes it(not $400 woth of liking) and it does have a lot of the features and all of the s9 so just trying to make the best of it and update it to a better OS.

This phone has a MediaTek CPU and it has absolutely no similarity`s to a Samsung phone, it will be very hard (probably impossible) to find a rom that will go with that. I`d sell it for a few bucks to get rid of it and get a proper one. Try Swappa for instance for finding a descent phone.

After seeing your pics I gotta say wow those bastards they did such a great work. Non-tech people will easily got trapped.
Unfortunately I dont think you can find any matching firmware for this fake model. Maybe you can have a look with custom OS instead e.g. lineage os or cyanogenmod. not sure they have something for this device and you may have a chance to turn your device into a $400 paper weight too.
LOL this is hilarious. Who randomly buys a phone on Facebook? I don't even use Facebook, but I definitely wouldn't just buy a phone from there.
It's a fake. You cannot flash official Sam firmware in it. It would brick.

Well, as others have stated... You cant do much with it. I am sure the real mfg will not be putting out firmware updates.
You can tell your wife to use it as is, which I would NOT do. The reason being, you dont know what kinda of spyware is loaded on that thing. I would factory reset it, sell it on ebay for what it is, an s9+ clone and try to recovery the loss. I think that phone should be worth $200 on ebay

Buying used poco

Hi folks how are you all doing?
So I have a question and maybe one of you will be able to awnser me.
I have a Mi6, but I got stolen last year, and a few months latter I managed to get it back. But I got it back with a few problems... The biggest one and the most annoying was the wifi, it just stopped working, I tried everything. The other annoying thing is that I only managed to install the stock rom, every other custom rom, even those MIUI based didn't work.
So, if with my original phone I already had a few problem after getting it "second hand", if I buy a used pocophone, would a simple clean up of the sellers phone enought to save me from some annoyances like the ones I had. I really doesn't like MIUI, the notification is so broke that unlocking it and installing a custom rom is a must for me
Thank you

I can actually buy a second hand oneplus 6 for 5~10% more than a brand new pocophone. But the 700mAh more of the poco, the lack of a wide used quick charge technology and the screen burn in is getting me away from this option.

As u wish.
My advice is always buy 2nd hand phone with decent hardware(quality, not quantity).
There's absolutely no harm in buying a used Poco F1 or any device for that matter, I've been buying used devices (only mobiles) since a long time and trust me I've had no issues so far. Make sure you're buying a fully functional device and there are no hardware related defects.
I'm currently using a Poco F1 that I bought few months ago and this is a used one too.
if you don't like MIUI on different level! don't buy MI fones again! I believe Mi6 was on Android ONe?
there are many other options for you to consider!
Samsung /Huwaie /Xperia /oneplus (6 is cheaper now) /nokia is on stock android but nokia has no flasher and minimum developement on xda
