Root is done. No custom recovery and roms yet. (NOTE: TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK)

I didn't understand it but is there any possibility of one click root or supersu?

Xposed works on it?

I do not feel Custom ROM is needed at this moment, however I feel if someone can make TWRP quickly. Without having custom recovery you can not flash custom rom.

It really is useless, because there are barely any stable roms, if not none at all, and secondly after using a nexus for so long and ****ing up my battery with a tonne of kernels and roms and what not, just stick to this, if you really want a stock android feel, why not try a theme ?

I really do not need a custom rom for the phone. My rooting purpose was different. It just need a custom kernel like TWRP, rest you can get mod from J7, A7, S6, S6 Edge and use them.
I hate nexus. Samsung provides me all whatever need for personal & professional use.

Hate is a harsh word to use! Have you used a nexus before? Are you not into customizing your phone and having the latest updates soon as it actually releases ? ?

I agree with you, xposed would be great, and also having a nightly of Marshmallow would be too! I really feel sad that we will get the update only in March! That really blows.
If not TWRP, I wouldn't mind settling for CWM either.
And would like to use AK kernel, or even hellscore.

If anyone browses reddit, then check out www.reddit.com/r/SamsungGalaxyA8 a sub made by me for our phones, hopefully it will gather some support in time.

Need a rooting strategy for SM-A800F which will only add SuperSU nothing else just like auto root CF by chainfire, can anybody help!

pls add samsung galaxy A8 ( A800I) . As far as my knowledge goes (may be wrong) , in India the "F" variant is not available right now. I didn`t get the "F" variant in local market and even in Samsung distributors. Instead of "F", here is the "I' (Samsung Exynos 5433) with price arround Rs. 25,990 (approx.) (All 3 colors).

hi
I have already posted this as a separate thread but it did not get any response and I need few answers before I proceed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/chef-central/android/advice-porting-indian-rom-to-chinese-t3397736
I purchased a Samsung Galaxy A8 A8000 from China. I did not like its ROM since it lacked Google Apps and other stuff. So i decided to port system apps (apps+priv-app) from an indian rom. I am totall new to ROM stuff and to linux as well but i decided to go with virtual box and learn few things along the way.
For this,
first i extracted indian rom, it contained following
boot.img, cache.img, hidden.img, modem.bin, recovery.img, sboot.bin and system.img
then i extracted chinese rom, it contained different files as below
aboot.mbn, boot.img, cache.img.ext4, hyp.mbn, modem.bin, NON-HLOS.bin, recovery.img, rpm.mbn, sbl1.mbn, sec.dat, system.img.ext4 and tz.mbn
Since i donot want to mess with partitions and modem and other stuff so i decided to port only apps from indian rom and built an odin flashable tar file
For this i navigated various forum, i even dont exactly remember all but i am thankful to all who wrote useful stuff that helped me decide what to do, well most important of these were
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974014
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941239
http://rwilco12.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=92
first of all i converted indian rom system.img to system.raw using following command in linux virtualbox ubuntu 15.04
simg2img indsystem.img indsystem.raw
then i mounted this raw image using this command
mkdir indsystem
mount -o loop indsystem.raw indsystem/
then i converted chinese rom system.img to system.raw using same command as above
simg2img chcsystem.img chcsystem.raw
then i mounted this chinese raw image using this command
mkdir chcsystem
mount -o loop chcsystem.raw chcsystem/
then i created a system_new.img.ext4 file of 3.1GB size with this command
dd if=/dev/zero of=system_new.img.ext4 bs=4k count=775000
then i formated new image with ext4
mkfs.ext4 system_new.img.ext4
then probably i override the file system check and then mounted new ext4 image
tune2fs -c0 -i0 system_new.img.ext4
mkdir system_new
mount -o loop system_new.img.ext4 system_new
here i had a problem, i could not copy files from both indian and raw mounted images to my new ext4 image since i did not have permission to copy to the destination folder. then i made use of superuser access
sudo chown -R bethany /DATA/SHARE
sudo chmod -R ugo+rw /DATA/SHARE
gksu nautilus /path/to/image/folder
then i had full access and copied chinese rom to my new ext4 image.
cp -v -r -p chcsystem/* system_new/
then i deleted app, priv-app, font, framework, media, etc/permissions/allfiles-starting-with-android.-and-com.-and-allshare_library.xml from ext4 image.
then i manually copied these folders and permission files from indian system raw image file to my new ext4 image file
next i copy /system/lib/libandroid_runtime.so from chinese rom to the system/lib/ directory of indian rom and then deleted lib folder from chinese rom and replaced it with indian rom
then i sync files with "sync" command
then unmounted all partitions.
I then replaced system.img.ext4 file in my original rom with one that i have just made.
Now i need to compile these files back into flashable tar files with md5sum check with
tar -H ustar -c image_1 image_2 > your_odin_package.tar
md5sum -t your_odin_package.tar >> your_odin_package.tar
mv your_odin_package.tar your_odin_package.tar.md5
1. but before i do so I need some advance developer to please help me out and give some confidence as to the approach that i have used. is that correct.
2. Secondly, if someone can tell me tar ball flashing order for my rom since i heard it is important while compiling odin flashable tar file.
aboot.mbn, boot.img, cache.img.ext4, hyp.mbn, modem.bin, NON-HLOS.bin, recovery.img, rpm.mbn, sbl1.mbn, sec.dat, system.img.ext4 and tz.mbn
3. Also Is it possible that i convert system.img.ext4 into flashable odin tar file with above commands and flash only system image with Odin without messing with anyother settings.
Thank you

I don't know anything about your phone, but your zip file is incorrect.
You want to put all the files except META_INF into a folder called system. Look in META_INF/com/google/android/updater-script and you will see this is what the recovery is expecting.
Also, add a boot.img since it will try to flash that as well.
This is what the root directory of the zip file should look like:
Code:
[email protected]:/android/work/moto/zipper# ls
boot.img META-INF system
[email protected]:/android/work/moto/zipper# ls system/
app bin build_proj etc framework media usr
arcsoft build_id build.prop fonts lib tts xbin

I read that thread a little- it looks like a lot of people trying different things. Also, use post numbers because it's page 17 on my computer
So, where did the updater-binary and script come from? The script has to match the rom, but I think the binary is a lot more forgiving. I think a binary from another ics or gb rom should work. Your phone uses yaffs, so maybe an older binary? I thought a lot of the ics devices were moving to ext3/4?
I think the stock recovery won't work. Usually, they will only accept zips that are signed by the manufacturer.

Flash at your own risk- I didn't read the thread and I wouldn't know you device from an iphone.
https://rapidshare.com/files/2281343112/xt615ics1.2_mod1.zip
I cleaned up the system and added the boot.img. if you can get the /etc/recovery.fstab from your recovery, it might help since the partitions might have different names.

I think that is an error with the update binary. Maybe you can get one from a similar phone? It should be pretty generic, as long as it uses a similar file system/android version. So try to find a binary from an ics device that uses yaffs/MTD.

I thought this was the stock firmware? Could you just put in a similar ics kernel and see if that works? A kernel from an ics moto phone might work, but you'll have to change the ramdisk.

So the zip that I uploaded flashes, but it doesn't boot?
I think your working boot image is GB or Froyo and the new one is ICS. So maybe if I take the kernel from the ICS boot.img and add the ramdisk from your working one, then maybe it might work.
Maybe...
This is the new kernel with the old ramdisk. Again, flash at your own risk.

3. find file "build.prop" (open as text editor in root explorer)
4. find this line "ro.build.version.release=4.2.2" and then change 4.2.2 to what do you want

It depends on what you want to end up with. If you only want the full rom zip then full rom is good. If you want more zips with different contents, make more

How did you unpack the moto x system image with this kitchen?
I just tested the moto x vzw 5.1 system image with no luck.
Many moto firmwares use an encrypted sparse format (MOTO.W›.MOT_PIV256).
I am able to use imgextractor (windows) to dump the image and list of symlinks, as well as get image info, but I haven't found any linux utilities that can handle this format.
At one point I got to plug-in my device - so far, so clear, but what if I make a rom for a device I don't have

You only need to plug in your device if you are ripping the img's from it. Normally you can get the by-name info from a boot.img. If the device does not use by-name you will need to create an mmc file and still don't need to plug in the device.

Looks very nice. I guess I'm going to have to dust off my Linux install and give it a go.

After the extraction i checked out the options and at some point kitchen wanted me to choose from set_meta or set_perm, i chose set_meta but it said that my kernel doesnt support the set_meta type and chose set_perm by default.
Using the kitchen, I debloated the firmware.
Then built the fullrom zip.
I tried to flash using TWRP recovery, but it doesnot allow me and said , “This rom is for 'msm8610' devices, This is a 'mediapadt1'”. I thought to delete that line from updater script. But didnot delete because, that may need some changes in other files too.
I think that buildprop product name is differing from recovery product name.
I have attached files i was using,, I am new to linux and also android rom building..
Help me..
Update to latest version and try again..? I'm running same dualboot system you are (diff PC) He's made many changes since earlier this week to encompass more devices

Updated guides for ROM development training?

I read through the stickies. I tried to put together a working kitchen, etc. However, the links inside the guides are apparently obsolete. I got a lot of "unable to locate package" errors when trying to build up my my linux vm development environment. I should preface that I work in IT on the server side. I spend most of my days working from bash administering to linux servers, but I don't run Linux as my primary at home other than hobby vm's, so while the commands in the tutorials make sense to me, I am not really sure how to find the updated packages that I might need to complete my development environment.
I really want to learn how to develop my own ROMS, and I am looking for square 1, then square 2, etc. I have been googling, but everything I have stumbled into so far is outdated, which is why I am asking for help here.
Is there a class I can take out there, or online up to date guides/trainings? If you were looking to get started now, where would you begin. Any and all advice appreciated.
I found a more updated guide for creating the vm env. So I am off with that. Still open to advice for a noob if you feel like giving it, but I am at least past the first hurdle.
Anyone know where I can find the source code for my Galaxy Tab s2 so I can begin working on the rom?

Care to share? You are not probably not the only one looking for such....
This was the guide I followed, but I will say, I am unfortunately no further along now than I was before. I have a more or less working vm environment, but I got hung up at the point where you try to add a repo containing the ROM you want to work with. I very much want to improve/debloat the stock ROM that comes with my Galaxy Tab S2, but I could not figure out how to change those commands to work with that device rather than Cyanogen mod.
http://tutorialforlinux.com/2015/09...tu-15-10-wily-32-64bit-linuxgnu-visual-guide/
Someone needs to really write a book on this subject. There are some decent youtube videos out there that show some very basic things, but many of the posters appear to be hacks themselves, and they don't get very thorough. I've looked, there really appears to be no comprehensive source of information for those of us that are new to this sort of thing in the year 2016. There are some 4 year old guides, which contain broken links etc..
Now, I know that to create such a guide takes time, and I know that time is scarce, and I also know that there are probably a lot of other people like myself, coming to these forums every day, asking question after question. Could get pretty taxing to be someone in the know...
But really, there is no book? I mean, I'm watching this video and it just shows a guy editing files kind of willy nilly within the zip, explaining in a fashion what he is doing, but also stating that it's not really safe to change this stuff unless you know what you are doing... Well, that's what we are trying to learn. Thats why I am watching your video bud. Interesting...
So I'll ask again, if you were looking for step 1, 2, 3 in the year 2016, where would you start?

You can debloat your original ROM without building it from source. You just need to download the original zip file and then unzip and deodex it and then you can remove programs and zip it again and then flash.
This guide does not talk about deodexing (because custom ROMs are always deodexed). So find the deodexing part here in the forum. Otherwise this guide tells it all.
http://xda-university.com/as-a-user/zip-based-rom-tweaking
When I unzip the file, I wind up with a single .Md5 file, about 2x the size of the original file. I am working with the stock image. There really are no ROMS for my device, which is why I am taking this on. I can further open up the md5 file say with winrar, and I wind up with 6 or so .img files with the correct names, like system, etc. At no point to I see folders.
I think I am missing something. This being stock ROM, maybe there is a step that needs to be taken with stock zips that is different from custom roms. If so, I would love that info.
I think this device is amazing, probably the best I have ever owned, and it would just be that much better with a new slick OS.

I have not deodexed a single stock ROM, but I guess deodexing brings you that folder structure from those imgs. Try to find out about deodexing.

Which version of S2 do you have?
Here is at least one Deodexed + De-knoxed + Debloated ROM for T815 AOJ4:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/general/deodexed-knoxed-debloated-zip-t815-aoj4-t3272908
If it is LP or MM android then try finding deodexing and unzipping quides for those.

Here is at least one new discussion of deodexing tool. Should work with LP and MM.

This might help unpacking your ROM.

r4 - Custom ROM starter template - Honor 7 PLK-L01 B370

Let's get some custom ROM tweaking going on for our 7s!
As well as my own MoDaCo Custom ROM for the 5X, I've created a custom ROM starter template for anyone who wants to have a go. It's a bit different.
Basically, this ROM template will let you create your own custom ROM VERY easily. Easier than ever before. All you have to do is...
download my ROM template zip
make the changes to the system of your phone just as you'd like them for your custom ROM
run some commands on your device via ADB
add the resulting files to the template zip
That's it! No messaging around with install scripts, no rebuilding anything complex, just mod - and go!
Preparation
ONLY if you are completing the process for the first time, you need to set up a file on your microSD card - so launch and ADB shell and type the following commands...
Code:
touch /sdcard/exclude
echo app > /sdcard/exclude
echo priv-app >> /sdcard/exclude
echo delapp >> /sdcard/exclude
ROM build
Once you have your system up and running how you want it, and you're ready to distribute it (just the system and cust dirs mind, it won't pull the data dir, so your personal data is safe), reboot to recovery, launch an ADB shell and type the following commands:
Code:
mount /system
tar -X /sdcard/exclude -zcvpf /sdcard/system.therest.tar.gz /system/
tar -zcvpf /sdcard/system.apps.tar.gz /system/app /system/priv-app /system/delapp
mount /cust
tar -zcvpf /sdcard/cust.tar.gz /cust
You'll then end up with 3 new files on your SD card - system.apps.tar.gz (which is apps and priv-apps from system), system.therest.tar.gz (which, as the name suggests, is the rest of the system partition!) and cust.tar.gz with is the cust partition contents.
Update the template zip with these 3 files and that's it. It's ready to distribute for people to flash via TWRP! If you have updated the boot image, you'll need to replace that too, the easiest way is to do a TWRP backup then pull that file from the SD card and drop it into the template zip as boot.img. That's really it!
I hope this inspires a few people to start playing around with custom ROMs for the 57.. more cool things coming soon!
Oh and the all important template file...

We tried to compile a tree from the files extracted from the device, and adding vendor blobs, but was not successful, if you have a tree by which we can get a working ROM, then can you please share it with us?
Thank you for the template though.
Great News!
We have been trying to compile the tree for so many weeks without reaching any positive results.
Thank you for your work and contribution. We will be tuned for your updates.
Note: It would be kind if you can share your feedback on this post -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7/development/tree-help-creating-honor-7-device-tree-t3310970
I haven't looked at the device tree yet, it's on my list of things to do!
I'm creating a stock-based ROM first then moving on to that.

Template updated to r3 based on B330.

Thank you very much, Sir.
Long time no cooking. Maybe I give this a shot.
Hey,
I'm wondering if your method is applyable to other ROMs ?
Greetings from Germany
Is it possible to make such a template for B180 (LP)? I am fed up with MM but wish to have slightly modified stock LP rom.

Why would the dev create a pack like that based on an outdated software version? B330 runs as good as any previous builds. Here and there a tiny bug as every build has. No need for such nonsense as creating a B180 build now.

With all the respect, it is not as much outdated as you say. B330 isn't as good as LP's B180. In manmy cases MM can be pain in the ass. It is not only my opinion. I understand you are happy with it but not everyone has to be you.
I had no problems with LP, neither do I have problems with MM. I don't get what all this is about... I call it nonsense.

Our world seems to be big enough to give space for all kind of users!
Stay calm!
Why stay calm? I was just giving my point of view. If I consider it nonsense, I feel free to say so.

No intention of being rude though, guys.
@paulobrien Do you plan to update MCR to B370 or are you too busy these days?
