Redmi MIUI killng apps - Redmi Note 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I find that apps like Spotify or other music apps get killed after a while even if they are the only open app. Many apps that create notification for persistence also get killed very quickly on MIUI. e.g. Wakey to keep screen on gets killed to.
Is there a way to fix this?

Give them a lock in recent apps or you go to security center look for Autostart and choose your application. This helped for me

Even if I have exactly done what you have suggested, some of my apps keep being shut down for no obvious reasons.
I am on the latest weekly developers rom by the way.

Go to Settings->Additional Settings->Battery & Performance->Manage app's and battery usage->Choose app's to restrict. Try it out maybe it works for you. If not I got no solution anymore if you find out an other method pls say it to me!

Tried that for the constantly closing 2 apps but still getting shut downs.
I froze as many system apps as I could to free some ram and also disabled ram management from developer's options.

[HELP] Trying to find a solution to apps running in background. Any way to stop them?

First of all, I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN BROUGHT UP BILLIONS OF TIMES, SO BEFORE YOU REPLY WITH "Search the forums" READ THIS.
I have been looking for WEEKS trying to find an answer to this, and no answer given on any forums are what I am looking for.
I have an android phone (sidekick 4g) and there are apps that run in the background when not necessary. Now I know some stuff need to be aways running for the phone to function. But I also know that apps like Facebook, Market, Gmail, T-mobile's Media Store, MyYearBook, Maps, Aptoide, etc don't. When I force close them, they just start up a few seconds later. I've tried task killers and got the same result. I've read the "Why you shouldn't use a task killer" articles but everyone keeps saying different things about it so I'm confused.
Like many others, I want my battery to last at least half way through the day. The above mentioned apps (and some others) DRAIN THE BATTERY WHEN RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND WHEN I DON'T WANT THEM TO.
Please does anyone know of a way to fix this?
My phone is rooted, if that matters.
Also, "freezing" the apps don't help cause then I can't use them when I actually want to.
Thank you very much in advance anyone who can help me out!

Applications running, doesn't mean cpu cycles are being used. Sitting in memory is no different then a song sitting on your sdcard. Your issue with the battery has to do with processes using cpu cycles. If you have applications that update, force updates manually.
Just having apps in memory isn't your issue.
Use the features built into the os, find out what apps are causing the problem. Look at the settings. If you have looked at your settings, then you have one of three choices. Open bugreports with the application developers, don't install the apps causing problems, or upgrade your phone.

Thank you that makes sense.
I would think those apps would use battery because it pushes notifications for the app (like new messages and stuff). Does that not use battery?

It does use battery because to process the notification it needs to use the cpu. If you force applications to update manually. Your batter would be better. Check into battery saving tuts. All that information has already been discussed plenty. Won't change in this scenario either.
The more apps you have updating information the more data and notifications are being processed.

Also, I have another problem, if you know anything about this kinda stuff. The Facebook app icon just (like 10 minutes ago) disappeared from my home screen, and it's not in the app drawer either. I uninstalled and reinstalled and still having the problem. I can only open it by manually searching "facebook" in the google search widget and that's when it gives me the option to open the app. It's really bizzare and I have no idea what's going on.

Sounds like a issue with the rom or launcher. Try installing another launcher from the market and see if the application is installed. If its there with another launcher then its your stock launcher, if its not then its the rom.

Apps doesn't run in background on H2OS

Hey,
I just installed H2OS and I can say it's pretty nice. I could configure anything to meet my demands.
Only one thing bothers me. For example if I close the Facebook Messenger from task manager I no longer get notification when I receive messages. I even tried to give app permission to autorun but no success. Also the apps hibernation feature is turned off.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks!

The Task Manager of h2Os is different from the normal Recent App Killer on Android, when we swipe to left it kills the app as well as all the background services associated with it ... SO I suggest you swipe it to the right and lock it in Recent's menu ...
Also many times when on Wifi and phone goes in deep sleep mode the apps are automatically closed or put in hibernation mode and don't come out of it until we open that app .

Resume hibernated apps - restore last state?

first of all - amazing app!!
I have one question, maybe I got it completely wrong ...
If I hibernate an app, and restart it later again, e.g using the recent key, shouldn't the app state also be restored??
e.g. I use root explorer and navigate to a folder, then press the home key. When I get back to the application ( not using greenify) I will see the same folder that I was in before (if LMK did not kill my app of course).
But when the app was hibernated (greenifed), it always starts up "fresh"... Is this intended??
Galaxy s6, android 5.0.2 rooted
The app is stopped so is normal. Btw in Root Explorer is an option to restore your last working folder, check it if you want to go back to your folder.

Root explorer was just an example. So it is not exactly the iOS feeling that an application is stopped in background and resumed afterwards...
Which means, that I should not greenify apps that I want to go back later on using the recent key - because I will get a reload of the whole app which makes the 3 Gigs of RAM completely useless ... Is this correct??
So people who greenify everything will get a bad user experience, at least on the apps they use many a time....
A little disappointing but still a great app.

That is how the app is designed. You are not supposed to Greenify every app especially those you use frequently. That will consume more battery. This is stated in the OP of the main thread by the Dev himself and repeated many times in many sub-threads.
Makes sense.

I believe the closest equivalent of the IOS behavior that you are looking for is generated through Doze, a function implemented in Android phones with Marshmallows. For a more aggressive Doze behavior, you can use greenify. And if you don't have marshmallow on your phone, I believe there is a dedicated Doze app on the play store

Ok thank you. I assume the app you are taking about is shutApp... The doze app (same developer) just cuts off the network activity using a dead VPN connection. I will try shutApp on my device phone, but for now I am happy with greenify, it works great except for Chrome and YouTube... Thanks for your help..

You may try the new experimental feature - "Shallow Hibernation" if your device is running Android 6.0 and rooted. It preserves the app running context even in hibernation.

Downloads/ updates stop if play store gets cleared from recent apps

This is a very strange bug. I was updating PUBG and cleared the recent apps before going to bed only to wake up in the morning and see it not completed. I tried multiple times but the same happened. So I can conclude that the download manager gets "EXITED/STOPPED" by clearing play store from the recent apps. This shouldn't happen as download manager is an integral part of the android system and it's functioning shouldn't have anything to do with exiting the store.
Is anyone else having this problem. Kindly comment below.

I don't think you get my query. This is what happens:-
1. I update/download an app on the Play Store
2. I clear recent apps including the play Store
3. This freezes/ stops the update/ download.
So I guess that clearing the store from the recent apps also somehow closes the download manager. This shouldn't happen.
That's the problem I faced too none of aps including play store run in the background. If recent tabs is cleared the apps stops working

Did you find any solution ?
I have a solution:
STOP CLOSING APPS.
You are destroying your performance and battery life by doing this. ONLY close apps if they're malfunctioning. It does NOT make your phone faster to clear apps.
I thought this crap was put to rest years ago, wow.

Clearing recent apps doesn't necessarily mean closing the app especially for a system app like download manager.

That's exactly what it does, actually. It doesn't just "hide" then - it calls onDestroy (sometimes, it's not guaranteed) and disposes the activity, so next time you run it it has to be recreated from scratch again.
But yes, you are at least correct in that it shouldn't terminate any associated services. Maybe that's an MIUI "feature" of closing the apps.
But my point still stands - you shouldn't close recent apps unless necessary. Any Google result will tell you this, it's mainstream knowledge these days.
If you can't help yourself, see a doctor for OCD treatment. It's a 6GB device for God's sake, you will open 100 apps and still not run out of RAM. No it will not make PUBG FPS better. No it will not make your device switch apps faster. It does ONLY harm.

Damn!! People clearing their recent apps have OCD. Really ? I've been using android phones for years. My previous phones had 365 apps installed in it and I had to use almost 50 to 70 or more of them daily. The thing is most if not all android apps have background services and these services do NOT get stopped even if you clear recent apps while other apps just get cached to the RAM and they too don't stop by recent apps clearing. And then there are wakelocks and GCM which are the reasons for apps giving you notifications and things like that. I can go on but I think you get the point by now.
I clear apps because I just like to see a clean UI. I know that these apps don't just get stopped by this. If I really wanted to stop an app I'd do it for saving battery and NOT for saving RAM and I'd use advanced apps like greenify and wakelock detectors for this because clearing apps won't stop these apps. Some apps just prevent the device from going to deep sleep and this is the reason for overnight discharge on most phones.
Peace.

I think the problem is with big apps. Whenever I install a small size app maybe upto 100 MB, it gets installed without any problems but whenever I tried to install/update a large app like PUBG, it never gets completed giving errors like error 495. Today it stopped at almost 1.05 GB. I'll check and see if I can find a fix.

But this shouldn't happen on stock Android though.. Even on iOS swiping out apps from recents doesn't mean the user wants to force stop it. Xiaomi designing it's skin to do this is really counterintuitive. Because of this we are having all sorts of problem like this and messaging apps not receiving notifications in the background.

After a few days of use, I don't think that is the case. I tried multiple downloads/ updates from the store and cleared recent apps but they continued without any freezes or stops. The problem appears when I install/ update a large sized app like PUBG. It'll go on for sometime and then just freeze and return an error. Last night it stopped at almost 1gb+ with an error code 495.

There is MIUI Optimization in Developer settings but i don't think it helps disabling it in this case.(it helps a little bit on scrolling performance BUT after 3-4 days it becomes slow again for me..I think MIUI's Touch response & Scroll performance is very bad compared to Stock/Neuxs 5... Correct me if it's only for me)
MIUI has very weird ram management which literally kills the apps & all the services when you clear it from recent and there's no way to stop this on MIUI from my past 2 weeks of experience and research

Most of the apps will get (force) closed when cleared from recents. Only those with background services need actual "force close" button press. As advised, Greenify might accomplish what you're looking for.

Greenify is completely automated and done in the background. You can set whatever apps you want to close whenever you want.
I don't know of anything else that is as effective as it.
Also I wouldn't really be using these anymore as Android is more than capable of ram management.
Spare ram is wasted ram

Well, that's the risk you take. Most of the killed apps will re-launch themselves automatically, either right away or after a while, when they receive corresponding event/broadcast message. You did not specify why do you want to kill apps in the first place, but generic approach:
1. Greenify (link) - it will kill an app AND prevents automatic restart of an app (doesn't work at 100% though)
2. Disable specific service of an app, so it won't keep restarting (app might be unstable - crash)
3. Uninstall the app and find a better alternative which isn't always running
