Is the camera button in the Z5C much worse than the Z3C's? - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got the Z5C and the camera button has a rather physical loud click fr the first travel (focusing) and then no click sound at all at the second travel (photo taking). The phone does a vibration when taking the photo and that is the only feedback since the button does not have a physical click at the end. For instance, with the phone off, there is only one click, when it is supposed to be two with a full travel.
Comparing with the Z3C, it has a normal click sound for the focusing and then makes also a physical sound when taking the actual photo, as with any other smartphone I'd own.
Does your Z5C camera button behave like mine or is mine defective?

At the end decided that must be a defective unit and am returning it. Wondering now if to go back to Z5C or Z3C, I miss the ability to root while maintain camera performance in darkness.

First Impressions

I got me Evo Lte around 11am, and heres what I've noticed so far
The phone is gorgeous. The quality of the materials used feels absolutely amazing in the hand. The weight is simply perfect as well. As a user of both the 4g and 3D, i can say HTC has outdone its previous two evos by miles.
The Lte's buttons are extremely easy to press. It doesnt take much force to make the buttons go down. While the might be viewed as beneficial for some users, others might not like it, as your phone might reboot or dial someone in your pocket.
The kickstand is also superb. I've never used a better kickstand. Although small, you can tell how strong the thing is from the first time you open it. It stands the phone up at 3 different angles. If you have no nails though, you'll probably find yourself having a hard time getting it it open. With a silicone case i found it very difficult to open the kickstand as well, however a tpu case was much less intrusive.
There were some slightly less pleasurable things though:
The kickstand wasnt completely flush with the silver rim on one end. while barely noticeable, it's enough to remind me that this phone is early in HTCs restructuring phase and that i shouldnt expect this phone to be perfect.
When plugging my SD card in, i noticed the same issue as well. Although everything worked properly, the sd card was at the slightest angle from the words "SD Card." Not significant enough to make me not want the phone (read: i love it), but HTC still has come a long ways and should still continue to do so.
The rear cover was also slightly off. Granted this could be from the kickstand, but it exposed some of the internals if i didnt close it with the corner in question first. This in my opinion was definitely not okay. I would be careful with this phone near water.
The rear cover was also very flimsy. It attaches to the red strip on the left and right side, but without anything in the middle. This causes you to be able to push on the plastic and feel it move up and down. Again it made me feel like my phone wasnt as protected as it could be.
Finally to install my screen protector, i took my tpu case off, and along with it comes the rear cover. I am not feeling this rear cover.
All in all, imo the nice things outweigh the bad, but its just something for people to take note of

Hardware:
Screen is bright and gorgeous. I usually keep my brightness turned down about 2/3 of the way and it is still pretty bright. Phone is very thin compared with my 3D.
Pretty light but feels more solid than say a SGSII. My kickstand is not quite flush with the case but no biggie to me. Power button is nice and has a good feel to it.
Back cover came off ok but had to give a little force. Not a big fan of the gloss finish on it. Seems like it would scratch very easily. Volume rocker is not part of the back
cover so they are nice and firm compared to the 3D which could feel spongy. Kickstand feels solid even sitting both ways.
Software:
For those asking about Speedtests on 3G, I ran some tests against my Evo 3D. Testing to the same server (Phoenix, AZ)
1st
3D - 53kbps down 101kbps up 1489ms ping
LTE - 540kbps down 741kbps up 332ms ping
2nd
3D - 27kbps down 57kbps up 1455ms ping
LTE - 415kbps down 729kbps up 324ms ping
3rd
3D - 36kbps down 80kbps down 1455ms ping
LTE - 308ms ping 587kbps down 716kbps down
This was a laugher. LTE wins by a landslide. Not fantastic speeds but much, much better than before

Awesome, thanks for the mini review! I'm glad you covered the buttons, because I felt that was something reviewers never really touch up on. I owned the 4G and I loved the way the buttons felt, but going to the Evo 3D I felt the power button took a downgrade (it was WAYYY too easy to press IMO).
Can anyone with the phone confirm if a 64 gig sd cards works.

Thanks for the info! Maybe this thread could be retitled as first impressions?
Looks like I'll be waiting for a while yet to receive mine. In the mean time, is there any chance you can confirm two things for me? Both are simple (gimmick stuff):
1.) If you have the camera as one of your lockscreen icons, does pressing the dedicated shutter/camera hardware button skip the lockscreen and take you to the camera app?
2.) Can you record slow motion video @ 720p? This should be an obvious yes, but all reviews I've seen only had 390p or whatever... just curious. I know older HTC phones could (Rezound, for example).

1. Did not work for me.
2. I set my video to 1080p and enabled slo-mo. The resulting video is 768x432

Thanks. Sprint papers say you should be able to bypass lock screen with camera button-- or perhaps I misread?-- so I thought that was the trick. Thanks for both. Odd that slow motion knocks you down to... what is that, 480p I guess?
Can one of you awesome folks check something for me please? I know that if you press and hold the camera button while the camera app is open, it will start burst shooting a ton of pictures. Is there a way to change or disable this? Might not be necessary with the dedicated camera button, but I like being able to hold that button to AF, then release to snap the picture.

Yes, you can disable continuous shooting from the settings or set it to limit to 20 frames

I don't have mine in hand yet. Waiting for the inter-office as it was delivered to the main office and I'm remote.
But the shutter button is a two-stage button. So I would think, that pushing it a little gets you the auto-focus. All the way, takes a pic. Just like a digital camera. Holding takes lots of pics. I would assume that the burst mode can also be turned off.
How's the ear piece volume and clarity. That was a problem with the initial evo. Ear piece volume was way quiet, even at the loudest setting.

I read that you have to hold down the camera button for a little bit to have it skip the lockscreen and go straight to camera. Can you test this?

Yeah, I was mainly referring to the loudness/quality of the ear piece, not speaker phone. I expect the latter to sound so so, but the ear piece should be nice and loud and clear (the galaxy nexus I played with was really loud).
This phone is amazing fellas. You will see why Apple tried to keep it out. Also the vast majority of the reviews don't do it Justice

Even if your phone has a PIN (or password), if you have the camera app as one of your lockscreen shortcuts you can drag that app to open and it will bypass the PIN screen and just use the camera. Leaving the camera app will then prompt for the password.
That's what I read, I dont have a phone in my hands.
Is tha screen size real noticeable bigger over the E3D ?

Back camera off centred and moves

Hey,
So I've read the back camera is sometimes off centred with galaxy phones but I noticed with my s6 edge that the back camera slightly moves depending on the angle of the phone.
When I tilt my phone so that the power button is facing down, the back camera looks perfectly centred.
Then when I turn the phone so that the volume buttons is facing down, the back camera moves slight towards the flash & is off centred.
Anyone else notice this?
RISX
That my friend is because of OIS.

Shake your phone with the camera off then Shake it again with the camera active; )
When you say off-centre, you mean under the glass?
Have a double check. I've noticed that it can look off centre in multiple different directions dependent on what light source is above you when you look at it. Maybe I think if you look at it under strong, even lighting (eg outdoors on a nice day) you see it is actually centred.
I can confirm that my camera lens is slightly off-centered as well, doesn't seem to affect function, throughout the OIS movement range the lens is clear of the frame. Still bugs me though...

Loose vibration with crackling sound

Hey everyone. Just got the z5c and I noticed that the phone"s vibration is a bit "loose" comooring to my z3c. Also, about every 1 out of 4 vibrations makes a very slight but audible crackling sound. Has anyone else experienced this? Is that considered normal? It doesn't bother me too much but my main concern is the phone's longevity. Thanks
I have not noticed that on mine.
Mine too (Z5 E6653)
I'm not worried about it. The phone is NEW (2 months might be considered new).
And if it would break, the phone has 2 years warranty. And if it's outta warranty, it's not so hard to replace some parts yourself.

I've read that in another thread. It has something to do with the camera construction. If you you flick at the back next to the camera, you can hear the ratteling, too. In my case, after opening the camera app, it's gone when you flick against the same spot...
If that's not the case... well I'd return...

What does "snip at the back" mean? I'm not familiar with "snip" in that context.
I Do also hear this noise produced by the Vibration engine. I am using a tempered glass screen protector and I am wondering if the Sound might Come from the protector.
Did you experience any issues with this so far except for the "annoying" Sound?
i dont get that sound (film)
i saw another thread on this topic, i guess is the glass i have 5.1.1 maybe it also matter os ver
No such problem on mine. Tested with vibration diagnostics, nothing comes up.

When I Do the Vibration test, I am also Not able to hear that Sound. It only comes up when the Phone vibrates only shortly, for example when you touch the home Button or when you write a text with Vibration Feedback.
Recently I recognized that I can reproduce that rattling Sound by tapping on the backside next to the camera. So I assume the Sound is produced by the camera lense because I read somewhere that the lense somehow "floats" freely on the Sensor.

Power Button build quality

Hi guys, I just received my G5 yesterday morning, and everything looks good (no gap on the battery module, well aligned, etc) save for the power button on the back.
When I touch it to unlock for instance, it makes a rattling noise, as if there was a loose part on top. Very, very annoying, because when I actually press it, it makes some kind of extremely cheap "double click" noise.
I was thinking about sending it back for a new one, but I wanted to ask first if anybody else was having the same problem, because if I end up getting a new one and it's the same, it's a waste of time.
Would you relate to that?
My button has a sharp click feel and noise. It wiggles a tiny bit, but I know for a fact its not defective.

Exactly, an acute "click"
Thanks for the feedback, I'll send it back then, mine must be defective in that regard.

Clicking/rattling sound from back camera lens

Hi all. I just want to be sure that my 'problem' is not a hardware issue. I bought Honor View 10 five days ago and from day one I can hear some clicking or rattling noise when I tapp the top back side of my phone or when I put it on the bed for example (nothing to hear when I shake the phone). Sounds like something is loose near the back camera or in that top back area around the camera (maybe I'm wrong). When I tapp it near the middle or the bottom of back cover, everything is tight and without that sound.
I've read on other forums that this issue is common and that sound is from camera auto focus, lenses etc, maybe vibration motors or power and volume button. But I just wanted to see if anyone else has this 'problem'. And if this is not common, what do you think I should do? And, just to clarify, everything is working without any problems, just that annoying sound.
I get the same from my V10 here.
I guess we will have more people with it...
Nope. nothing like that in mine.
I checked the other one in shop and does the same but am not sure if it's only related with certain badge...camera seems to be fine but in instagram it just won't focus. ANyone with the issue?

maybe try getting it replaced.
The camera has optical image stabilisation, that's what the rattling is from, turn the camera on and do the same again and there will be no more rattling.

my honor view 10 also has that little noise when hit by the part of the camera, is normal as I see no ??
Yup. Same with my view 10. The top part made a lil noise when you tap it but it's normal. I heard the same thing on other phones before too.
Yup, I hear the clicking sound on my Honor View 10 when I tap near on the back. I had the same "issue" on my P10 Lite, but everything works fine, so there's no reason to fear.
Hey, nothing to worry about. It's not any issue at all or any kind of manufacturing defect. The sound comes because of camera and its lens function. You can observe such sound in other smartphones too especially when you open camera app and close it or capture something. It's more audible on DSLR cameras whereas smartphone camera it's less. So don't get bothered about sound and enjoy capturing beautiful photos with your Honor View 10.
I have this in my aswell, my guess is either the camera as some of you mention, OR it could be the vibrator thingy i guess..
I have it too. I tried to press the volume button and tap the back like that, but sill had the noise. Later I opend the camera app, zoomed and tapped the back like that. It had a different sound. It has to do something with the zoom function, because of the lenses. I think it's normal. The lenses have to move, that's the optical zoom.
