Revert to stock for sprint TEP - Sprint HTC One (M9)

Once I've unlocked boot loader and rooted the phone, is there a way to revert back to stock un rooted and un locked should I need to use sprints TEP?

Yes all you need to do is Run an RUU.

just flash the latest (or your current RUU if you are s-on) and re-lock your bootloader too. You can also make the phone s-on if you are s-off currently, but to tell you the truth in the past 6 years the number of phones i had replaced by sprint when I have TEP they never ever cared. I had a my m8 replaced by them and when I was showing them how the power button would not work all the time the phone was unlocked and running the google play addition rom.. lol They dont really care. Certainly flash the RUU but the relock and son are up to you. They take two seconds to do and can be undone easily if you for some reason do not get the phone replaced.
To relock bootloader - I believe this thread requires s-off but I think it will give you a Locked status instead of the "relocked"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...er-htcdevs-t3092036/post60334159#post60334159 - Thank @scotty1223 for the thread
To go from s-off to s-on
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
***EDIT*** Important - in those threads be careful about what RUU you flash when they tell you do especially if you are s-on. I mean worst case you brick and you're getting the phone replaced but still just an FYI. Flash only the RUU of your current firmware version if s-on

I won't bother asking what s on and off and ruu are lol, I'll do that research myself.
Just glad to see some activity here.
Thanks for the help. Phone is awesome now on bad boys rom!

Just preparing for the future. If there's no way of reverting back to fully stock, then I may cancel tep, but all looks good now.

[Q]Rooting question

Hey this might have been asked before but i cant search as im on my phone..
I never tried this with my Eris so here goes,
If i unlock the bootloader to S-off, then run the RUU, will it go back to S-on?
I wanna unlock it, then go back to stock but im only unlocking it so future updates dont prevent me from rooting again. This way i could fastboot a recovery. (duh)
I get my phone on friday but just wondering
Sent from my wannabe Nexus S
Part of the root process flashes the system back to stock while keeping the bootloader s-off, eMMC unlocked and rooted.
IF you flash the stock RUU you will lose root and s-off, essentially bringing you back to stock. (You should do this if you need to replace your phone)
thanks silver

Alright cool, so how would I keep s-off and go back to stock software and recovery? I want s-off but would llike everything stock and OTA updates. I just wanna do this so I can run custom Roms later before the security hole is patched.

Ruu help.

I going to get a replacement from Verizon and I need to revert my phone back to stock. Right now I'm s on and my boot says tampered and unlocked how can I get back to stock. Will an ruu work?
If you look for the hboots thread in the dev section, there is a modified one that will say 'locked'. You just need to download it and flash. I believe you may actually have to re s-off temporarily to flash it though. Could be wrong

Could I just not flash the ruu I have on my SD card? Or would I have to soff for that?
Sent from my Rezound using XDA
You can, but it wouldn't do any good as the ruu would not clear the tampered, unlocked message. This is why you need the modified hboot I mentioned. It has the message modified that has the correct message of 'locked'.
Grab the one called 'locked'

Remember, I believe you may have to be s-off, you might brick if not.

Why would he use that? It won't do what he needs to do. Seriously now, we appreciate your effort to help, but please don't add confusion to a simple task especially after I've taken the time to tell eris exactly what he needed to do..
And you do need to s-off then flash the hex edited hboot.. all you need is for that phone to stay locked and be on a stock Rom and your good. Verizon doesn't usually check as long as you went thru the trouble shooting process with them over the phone and theyll send you a new one in the mail and you'll ship the old one back. They can't technically send you a phone and then charge you for the old one (if it is ***tampered***) cuz they wouldn't have done the proper trouble shooting before sending you a new phone. For all they know you got your phone that way.

Warranty for unlocked device running stock ROM?

Is there still warranty on an EVO 3D with touchscreen issues? It was unlocked to be rooted, but it never ran any custom software beyond that.
I can restore the original firmware.
This is for Canada.

if any questions come up take the phone and then do the Jbear wire trick... that will re-establish the phone to **LOCKED** and not **RELOCKED** then from fastboot usb type in fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
from there is should get you to s-on and locked so its like your custumization never happened
Warranty is one year after the purchase date.
If you decide to do the wire trick to get the bootloader back to "*** LOCKED ***" (stock) status, make sure to say "no" to the JuopunutBear bootloader and stay with the stock version. Using the "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3" command with a custom bootloader such as JBear, Revolutionary, or ENG installed will brick your phone.
You could also flash the RUU again after performing the wire trick to make sure everything is 100% stock before setting it back to S-ON and having it serviced.

no one has asked if it was unkocked through HTC DEV. if it was, and you are still within the year warranty it still should be covered. unless they hit you with the touch screen being messed up due to software issue. they will have record even if you go back to stock.

From what I've read, the carriers don't bother checking (or perhaps have access to) the htcdev.com database. Even if they did, or it was being returned to HTC for service, I don't think they can prove it was actually unlocked even if you requested a token unless it is in the "*** RELOCKED ***" state. As has already been mentioned, that can be reset to the stock "*** LOCKED ***" state by doing the wire trick.
ramjet73
Ok Rogers wireless is your carrier then you better lock it up tight, stock 100% otherwise they will shafts you big time, Rogers is my carrier unfortunately, and I am speaking from experience
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )

[Q] Go completely stock

i have looked through the threads and i did not see anything about this question or anything close enough to it. I need to go back to sprint to get my phone fixed (the microphone doesn't always work. sometimes it does, sometimes it does not. i have found that it is not software related, but definitely a hardware issue.) but i do not want to get my account noted or anything. right now i am s-off (NOT htc dev unlocked), running TWRP recovery v 2.2.0, and running meanrom with a custom kernel that was installed with meanrom. i know i can run an RUU and return to stock, but i will still be s-off. i did install a custom bootloader (thanks to regaw_leinad) that makes it look like i am s-on and not tampered, but i do not know if sprint can still see if i am s-off. sorry if this is a noob question, but i have never dealt with s-off before.

thank you! that was exactly what i was looking for! i guess i didn't look hard enough sorry.
but just to clarify, i cannot just leave my phone s-off? if i take it to sprint with s-off, but the custom bootloader that makes it look stock from regaw_leinad, will they still be able to find out that i am s-off?
I have never returned my phone to s-on in two years. I've never had a problem with the Sprint stores. It's your call though. If you do s-on it, tell them you don't want it updated. If it was me I would just have the stock rom on it and call it good

ok, last question. if i run the latest ruu, will it update my hboot? i am still on 1.12 and i do not want a newer one. i downloaded the 1.13.651.1 ruu. is this fine? i am running meanrom v 4.0 if that info is needed.
I'm about to go 100% back to stock as well to try and resolve many of the problems i'm having, this thread has been particularly helpful, thanks
I think it does update your hboot, but I don't know for sure.
i have confirmed that it does indeed update your hboot.
if you have hboot 1.12, then use this ruu:

it is the 1.13.651.1 ruu. it has hboot 1.12 in it.

i am glad to posted a helpful thread. but we can thank metalfan78 for supplying the information that helped us
sorry to post a third time, but i ran the ruu that i previously posted a link to and went to the sprint store (i also had to re-flash the custom bootloader from the regaw_leinad tool). they had no clue i was s-off or i had done anything to my phone. but there is one problem. if they had tried to update it and it updated the bootloader as well, it would have removed the custom one and put HTCs back on it. that wouldnt be a problem as you would still be s-off, but instead of looking stock(s-on, locked), it would now say s-off in the bootloader. so if you want to be sure that the sprint employees will not be able to tell you modded your phone, you do have to return to s-on. chances are that they wont try to update it, but its better to be safe than sorry!
Yea, true. I'm glad everything worked out.

[Q] Void warranty?

So i looked for an answer to this, but i could not find it, so i figured i would ask. I know that rooting and s-off do not void your warranty (well, the technically do, but you can get rid of them and get your warrant back) but what about HTC dev unlock? i know it claims it does, but is there any way to get your warranty back with HTC if you dev unlock? as a separate question, what does the htc dev unlock warranty void exactly? i heard that it only voids software related issues (brick), but if you have hardware related issues (broken screen, ect) htc will still fix it. is this true? and last question, will i get in trouble with sprint for unlocking with dev unlock? i dont think i would if i go to the sprint store with it completely stock just unlocked, but they can be really picky. i do not have much experience with this stuff, so i greatly appreciate any help you can give. thanks!
Well you can relock your bootloader through adb but it will no longer say *locked* but instead say *Relocked* Sprint will still accept it for warranty repairs but HTC will not.
Hope that answered your question.
Htc will honor the warranty of an unlocked phone if its a clear cut defect but most of the time it is not.
that is not what i wanted to hear. i had to get a new phone and it came with hboot 1.19. so i cant get s-off and i am not going to void my warranty. i guess i have to downgrade to 1.12. thanks for the replies, that does answer my question. i am just not happy to hear i have to downgrade the hboot. that does not look like its going to be an easy/fun process...
and i just realized that to downgrade you still have to unlock it first....

its fine. yeah, that mislead me too. it says you dont have to be because part of the process is unlocking yes, there are ways to mod it to look stock, but until i find a definite way to get my warranty back, i guess im going to stick to a completely stock phone. that is a very hard and sad thing for me to say, but i cannot risk my warranty. it just isnt worth that to me. anyway, thanks for the help. i do appreciate it.

yeah i know, its just that i am not supposed to root or anything according to my parents so if they find out, i am in a bunch of trouble. so if my warranty is void with htc, its going to be hard to explain to them that i cant send my phone to htc when it breaks. i do, however, have the TEP warranty with sprint, i just dont think i want to risk it. but a guy over on the dirtyracun forum said that you can relock so that htc cant tell that you unlocked. do you have any information on this? if you did i would greatly appreciate it, but if not then its not a big deal.

This guide will show you EXACTLY how to go from S-OFF to S-ON again. Not only that,
but it will be like you just got your phone brand new from Sprint again, ***LOCKED*** and S-ON.
This sure looks like a lot of steps, but it's not really. I've just detailed everything out
so there is no confusion.
And also download the RegawMOD S-ON Writer Utility
If the RegawMOD S-ON Writer Utility runs all the way through without errors, you are now fully stock! Congrats!
You now have S-ON and ***LOCKED*** on your bootloader and there is no way to prove that it wasn't!
