[Q] Need Root - Confirmation Pls

Been reading the guides but I need confirmation. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.
my goal is to get ROOT on the stock ROM and the ability to unroot if needed.
In order to obtain root, I must:
- Unlock bootloader
- Install CWR
- Apply the Superuser file or install a custom ROM with root
If I go through this method, can I reverse everything? Like re-locking the bootloader, remove CWR, and unroot?
Am I missing something simple just to simply root the device? Pls advise. THX in advance.

Rooting part is correct.
To unroot, relock bootloader and flash the stock ROM. Simple as that.

Thanks for the confirmation. Will prepare to root now.
There's a but..
If you want to relock it it will say Relocked and not Locked like how it came from the factory.
Wait....I sent this with Tapatalk?

[Q] re-lock bootloader?

with all the security related threats recently i'm realizing i really need to re-lock my bootloader.
any links on how to do this? i've searched and it's all about unlocking and a few on un-rooting.
i need to retain root, but want a locked bootloader so if i lose my phone it's less likely to have its data siphoned.
CWM, unsure of version
thanks!

Rooting & Unlocking Bootloader without HTCDEV?

Hi,
I was hoping if someone could answer a quick question for me. I did look around and I think I have one of my answers but wanted to check.
Can the phone be rooted without unlocking the bootloader? I think I saw that it can.
Does the Motochopper exploit work on the phone?
Finally can the bootloader be unlocked without using HTCDev?
Also, can someone tell me if changes made to the partitions via a DD stick?

Simple root??

does anyone know if theres a "simple root" method for the m8??
Is unlocking bootloader, flash recovery, s-off all required just to root? I don't care about any of that stuff.. I just want a simple root
if thats possible

Unfortunately, unlocking the bootloader is required for the ATT variant to obtain root. Easy way to do that is this toolkit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699065
Unlock the bootloader, then you can flash a custom recovery and a superuser zip
S-Off is not required for rooting.

Yes...sorta. No RUU yet so this is the best you can do for now. Here are the instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
Great, thanks guys Ill give that toolkit a shot

bootloader question

I gather that it is necessary to unlock the bootloader in order to root - is this possible to do on the Verizon version? If so, could someone point me towards a tutorial, as I have only found posts on rooting, not unlocking the bootloader.
