The BL unlock has been patched in this OTA. Adam made a new thread talking about it. I would advise removing or editing your post, as some noob will go to it (not read) and brick.

Yes. Think if it as 2 levels of a hack. (I'm no pro so thus is a very generic description). With root you can do many more things than an unrooted phone (I rooted just to load all the apps in the multi window drawer). However, with an unlocked bootloader you can do even more (custom roms, overclock, nandroid.....which is a TOTAL backup of your phone, that can restore it to it's wxact state of when you nandroid it). I am rooted but did not unlock my bootloader (yet).
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
You can definitely make a nandroid with a locked bootloader, my dude.

ok so can i root my note2? i havent unlocked or rooted but i updated sooo...i dont want roms i just want rooted apps like beats datasync and maybe titanium

Lol.....like I said, I'm (obviously) no pro. This is my first samsung. Is there an app or toolbox or something I can get? Or do i have to mess with odin (I'm still not even clear as to what odin is). I used the app to inject root and when I try to boot in to recovery it warns about customs roms so I just cancel it. Can I do that and proceed without screwing uo my phone?

Don't mess with odin unless whatever instructions you're reading call for it. Flash roms with a custom recovery.

I'm not unlocked though? I can flash roms with just root? Sorry......still learning. I've only had HTC in the past and they were unlocked. I really just want to nandroid. What's a custom recovery that I can use without being unlocked? Thanks!
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I don't know if you should be messing around with this phone at your tech level, brotha. Now you're asking a whole bunch of questions and I don't feel like being an android 101 guy tonight.
Honesty, google is where it's at. It's how I learned. Wikipedia, too.

Too late. I tried to backup in CWM and got that awful screen telling me i had unauthorized software and to head to verizon (and i haven't installed the OTA). Had to restore to stock and then reroot. I thought i had a grasp of this but i guess not.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
The main feature to unlocking the Bootloader is to have a custom kernel. Which handles the way the CPU works, which in turn with a custom kernel improve performance, and battery life.
I was under the impression you had to be rooted to unlock the bootloader but I guess not now
Be patient. No need to hurry. Read up until you have more confidence and context. Sounds like you are learning fast though.

Restore to return to verizon

Okay guys, so here is the deal. My now is having some issues that may or may not require a return, and I would like to completely return to sick, just in case. I used casual to unlock and root, but how would I relock? I have not been able to find a guide anywhere. Also, how does triangle away work? I was told that I need to use this so that a triangle does not alert them to me unlocking. Noob question I know, but any help is appreciated. Thanks!

check my guide again...I just updated section 1b. We now have a VRAMC3 odin file. Now you can flash back to the latest stock and no need to update. :good:
Dont forget to thank Beanstown, he provided the link!
and yes that will unroot and relock.
OK , last post I promise lol. If I flash back to stock 4.1.1( through twrp) and update, I will be completely stock?

flashing through recovery does not replace recovery which will cause the ota update to fail. If you want to go back to factory stock. simply odin vramc3 in odin and be done.
OK thanks

[Q] GS4 Root Sept. 29

I've been trying to root my phone and nothing is working.
My first try was through motochopper but it gave me some failure message and it seems like everyone is having the same problem. I have the superuser app but every time I try to open it, it says its out of date but it won't let me update. I read some comment on youtube and it said that it's because of the July update that the motochopper method won't work anymore.
I have not tried the twrp method that is on xda because I don't have a micro sd adapter, I dont know if that's the one that I should try but if anyone has recently rooted a Verizon GS4 and could direct me to a video or thread that would be awesome.
I really want to root my phone!!! Please help, this unrooted phone is holding me back from the wonders of root!
The rooting method you need to use depends on which stock rom you have now.

How do I check which stock rom I have?
System Settings/More/About Phone/Build version. It should end in either ME7 or MDK.

Build Number: I545VRUAME7
Is there a special way to root it for this ROM?

Yes since Verizon patched the loki workaround. Be sure to follow the link below though for root on me7.

Keep in mind you will not be able to install a custom recovery on ME7. This also means that you will not be able to install a custom rom at the present.

Need help explaining

A friend of mine ask me how I had CWM recovery on my phone with the build number I have. VRUAME7 I've tried looking for the answer, but I'm not having any luck. Can some explain this to me?

So when I rooted my phone I must have had a different build number? I really can't even remember how I rooted my phone. I guess the older I get the worse it will get.

Yeah when you rooted your phone you were on stock mdk, for all intents and purposes you are still on mdk firmware, just running a rom based off code from newer firmware.

4.4.2 update question

I have multiple roms backed up and I'm just trying to update my stock to kit Kat I download the update, install now and it boots into twrp recovery.. is this normal, how do I go about updating also will I lose root? I'm not interested in rerooting after updating but I would like to see what the new kit Kat is like... Thanks for replays beforehand you guys are the best

You need to have stock recovery in order to update.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
Flash back to stock recovery and use supersu paid to keep its root... Worked fine just make sure you are unlocked and s_off when u update so if something happens you can ruu back to 4.3.. glad I was!!! If you have the tether hack it will not work.. just to let you know
Well then I will be waiting for stock rooted Rom thanx guys
