Moto e problem while flashing cyanogen custom rom - Moto E Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

While flashing cyanogen custom ROM thru twrp it gets failed. It shows "Skipping MD5 file: MD5 file not found,
This package is for devices xt1021, xt1022, xt1023. This device is otus
Error executing binary updater in zip"
The mobile model that I'm using is xt1022 only, but I don't know why it is not installing. What should I do further??

Try below link...
download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=otus

Wait....u said your device is XT-1022..Which means it's Indian retail version...It is not otus...It is condor. Redownload the ROM for condor and try again.

Thanks for the reply. This link download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=otus Is for moto e 2015 version which has some additional features than my mobile which I bought in 2014 itself. I have a doubt whether flashing my device with the 2015 version rom will brick the device??

I have downloaded two roms from different websites for xt1022 model condor while flashing both roms its gets failed. It shows the package is for xt1022 but shows my device is otus. In cyanogen website otus device is moto 2015 version which has some additional features and 2014 as condor. Can I flash my device with otus rom?

Can u send a screenshot of your phone version detail.

The correct name is Surnia, please search google for "CyanogenMod 12.1 Surnia" the first link will bring you where you need to be. There are only Nightly biulds, so don't bother looking for an Official release, the correct recovery is also there. I also used TK's slim gapps. You will get some ANRs on a few apps, just go to the play store, uninstall and then re-install and the ANRs will go away.

Upgrade to latest version...

By the way, twrp for Condor is official... You can also find it on twrp official page (Google is everybody's friend).
If you find it under. img, you can flash it with flashify or rashr apks available on Play Store.
A. zip, as you have 2.8.6.0, can be flashed with twrp himself... Minimal 2.8.4.0 required...
Try to flash roms after upgrading twrp and let us know results

yes , I did.
I specifically checked the downloads again and it all says condor.
however, sometimes when i rebooted after flashing, it said that superuser is not installed. However, i already had it.
but that error only occured a few times.
are there some pre-requisites i need to meet before i flash the rom
Did you factory reset before flashing new rom? And after install just to be sure? Have you updated recovery to newest version? Did you make sure you downloaded the correct rom for your dual sim phone? Have you looked over the forum to see if anyone is having the same issue as you? Do you flash Google apps after rom? You should wait for after first boot to install Google apps. If you do these things then you shouldnt have a problem

get the latest twrp recovery. and follow the exact steps mentioned in the original rom thread. You should install it then successfully.
To root the phone again, just flash superuser zip after you install rom

Yeah, I had the same problem on my condor dual sim. After flashing *any* custom rom, I tried CM12.1, Euphoria, stock android 5.1.1 (for condor) and nothing would work. I wiped everything, did try to boot several times...
This thread helped because I was using old version of TWRP. I flashed the newest. But it would still hang on boot no matter what.
So I read in another thread a format of the internal memory was necessary before reporting bugs. And it ****ing worked.
this is done in TWRP from main menu WIPE > ADVANCED > type yes.
Now I'm part of this really great group of ppl running android on their devices independently on the mercy of carriers or makers.
Thanks for making this thread, I learned from here.

Thanks sir for the quick reply, I have unlocked the bootloader of my phone (MOTO E Dual SIM).
I want to ask the following before flashing the ROMs in my phone; please help:
1. What does official and unofficial mean?
Does it mean that the OS is released from MOTOROLA and unofficial is the created ROM by members of XDA or others.
2. Do we have to root the phone first and then flash the CM11 before installing CM12 or CM12.1
and is CM12 a stable ROM like CM11?
3. What is the use of going from OS 5.1 released from MOTO to home made CM12.1?
4. And which CM12.1 should I install as there are lots of CM12.1 available online, pls give link....
regards

1. Official means that the ROM will be supported by the CyanogenMod Team so u will recieve daily OTA update contains with bugfixes and new features, custom ROMs not maintained by the Motorola or any device Manufacturers, custom ROMs like CM12.1 provided by CyanogenMod Team and The ROMs for the specific device's are maintained by our xda Devs, if u unlocked your bootloader and rooted your phone already yout warranty automatically void, so u lost the support from motorola, motorola only updates on stock rom that comes with your device out of the box, this custom ROMs nothing related to motorola
2.some phone bootloop when flashed cm12.1 directly above stock rom, so flashing cm11 first and flashing cm12.1 then solves it, CM12.1 is fully stable,
3. Going from stock rom to CM12.1 the use is u get more tons of features that stock rom not provide you,
You not need to download ota every day, download weekly or monthly, your wish
Don't forgot to flash gapps with the ROM

The problem with this guide is that the download "mfastboot-v2" after downloading does not show any file or is corrupted.
Secondly in step 4 it says "copy it into the root of your internal memory" Where does it want to copy the files on PC or on mobile's root.
Thirdly can't understand point 9.
"Press power button and do swipe to unlock to get your touch working again!
As Motorola released source code for the kernel, @cybojenix has fixed the touch issue, you can skip to step 10 directly!"
THen I tried using the below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2754358
But it is silent how to flash twrp recovery and super user through adb.
Then I tried this which helped me to unlock my phone but is silent about rooting the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2753110
Lastly I am unable to find a time when do I have to backup my mobile OS, is it after flashing TWRP recovery and rooting the phone.
Also I am not sure how to flash TWRP recovery as there is a method saying that I have to install the TWRP manager and give root permissions for installing TWRP recovery but I still have to root the phone.

I somehow uninstalled my OS and no ROMs will Flash..

I somehow uninstalled my OS tonight when I was trying to flash AOSP's Oreo ROM. The flashing was unsuccessful (Error: 7) but I've noticed that no ROMs will flash at all.
I'm getting the same error for all ROMs despite them being suitable for my device:

Things I've done:
I've tried wiping the cache before I flash ROMS
I am on the most updated version of TWRP available for my device (3.0.2)
I've tried changing the updater-script as someone pointed out in another thread but it did not help
At this point, I just want a stable OS that will run on the phone.... Can someone help me? I just want to understand the error and what's causing it and install a ROM that would work...
Look for Mega Unbrick Guide to install a OS.

That's odd, because Error 7 is usually related to Updater-Script. Have you modified your model name in Updater-Script or just removed the line from it?

TWRP version is 3.1.1-1 now so you're not on the last.
Beside that, the question is what was on your device before :
- Did you already installed OOS 3.1.4 at one point?
- Didi you use the BLUpdater method to update the bootloader (logic ) ?
If no to the 2 questions above, that is the problem. So , you'll have to use the mega unbrick guide !

I actually haven't done both. I tried flashing the OOS 3.1.4 full ROM but it did not work. I will update my TWRP to 3.1.1-1 and I'll try it again. I do have an update though, I am able to flash an old version of Android M OOS using "OnePlusOxygen_14_OTA_003_all_201510241934". If I am able to install this, maybe this isn't a bricked device? Any advice would be super useful, thanks in advance.

The official LOS comes with built-in recovery. which is quite crippled in what it can flash. If you have TWRP installed it should come with kernel or installed to FOTA partition.
In both cases check, that you're using TWRP 3.2.x.x version.

I ended up flashing the second newest version (3.0.x.x.) and then flashed the latest lineage os and it worked . There is something wrong with the latest TWRP.
