Front camera quality is terrible. - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just picked up a V10 today. I noticed the front camera picture quality is terrible. Is this a thing or is my phone defective?
As a test, I took a picture with the front camera on my V10 and my wife's G4.
Here is the V10:

}
and the G4:
I've posted some of the exif data below. The biggest difference I could see was the brightness setting, but I don't know if that would make the pictures blurry...
Camera data: V10 ... G4
Dimensions: 1440x2560 ... 1836x3264
Resolution: 72dpi ... 72dpi
Bit Depth: 24 ... 24
Resolution Unit: 2 ... 2
F-Stop: f/2 ... f/2
Exposure Time: 1/20 ... 1/17
ISO: 300 ... 250
Exposure Bias: 0 ... 0
Focal Length: 2mm ... 3mm
Advanced Data:
Brightness: -0.29 ... -1.45
White Balance: Manual ... Auto
Digital Zoom: 1 ... 1

The v10 has two 5.0 MP cam lenses in front. The G4 has one 8.0 MP cam lense terrible is a stretch but I would agree the g4 is the selfie king lol

The picture taken with the V10 looks washed out and blurry. It looks the same with either of the two front lenses on the V10. Unless the picture was zoomed in, both should look crisp. I don't think the megapixles would make such a difference.

[Q] can neo take a photo resolution at least 2592 x 1944 ?

i would like to buy a neo, but sounds like the camera cant take picture 8mp quality, i m using x10 mini now, when i buy it, the original camera only can take a picture at 640 x 480, after i install other camera app like camera 360, only can take a photo resolution 2592 x 1944, what i to ask :
1. the neo stock camera can take a picture resolution at least 2592 x 1944?
2. if stock camera cant, while use other camera app like camera360, advanced camera, can those app take a photo at least not worst than my x10 mini
thanks
My Neo settings:
8M 3264x2448 (4:3)
6M 3264x1836 (16:9)
5M 2592x1944
Sent from my MT15i
With Camera Zoom FX I can select 8MP normally.
The Neo's camera obliterates the one of the X10 mini any day of the week.
Yes, you can select the different sizes in the stock camera app.
It looks like this:

I think something might be wrong with your X10 if you can only get 640x480 with the stock camera app.
thanks avbody, maybe i misundestand the post from other, maybe they means photo are compress too much and looks not nice but not cant take big resolutio photo,
since really can take 8mp photo, maybe consider to take neo but not galaxy w

Xperia Z2 main camera quality questionable

Hello XDA,
There has been some talk about the Z2 camera and its questionable performance, especially when comparing to other flagship devices.
Here's the first comparison. From a phonearena phototest. Clearly Z2 did terrible here. Blurry all the way.

So i wasnt shure if this was a technical problem, or a software problem. Did some tests myself, taking same shot with superior auto, full manual (resized to 8mp), and google stock camera app. And heres what I found out:
Look at the bins closely. Especially the lid. Google's stock camera has most detail and did better than Sony's own optimized one! Thats a bit shocking, isn't it?
I took some more shots that day using the superior auto, and guess what - they all came out very different, even though they were shot in completely same settings. What happened with the so "softening" of the images is what I believe is distortion correction. When sony's own software tries to fix that distortion, its blurs the image slightly in some parts of the image (depening on where it wants to corrects the distortion).
here's the test - couple of shots in auto + one in manual. And the result:
I just hope sony's going to fix their algorithms and provide a little update to their camera later on. Now I need to take 3-4 shots everytime to get the sharpest out of my shot, hoping the software will not "fix" down the picture it took.
Cheers All.

Are you using the wide angle camera, the front camera or the main camera?? The main camera is 16MP and the other 2 are only 8MP.
It does look like you are using the wide angle camera here so the image wont be as good
Hi fellow Austrian
As the G5's cameras support the Camera2 API, you might wanna try manual mode. Using it, you are able to manually set ISO, shutter speed, white balancing and focus, while the last two parameters still contain an "AUTO" function. You can turn it on in the overflow menu.
Here are some helpful pages that helped me
- ISO/shutter speed
- ISO/shutter speed cheat sheet
-White balance
~Firefrost
That's the worst contrast I've seen in a while. My first thought was that maybe the lens is dirty?
@Seansmit17 yes im using wide angel but if i dont use it still pictures looks like 8 bit. i will post more pics tomorrow.
@Firefrost Servus i will try it thanks but i want to use simple mode.
@ torax242 no its not.
Still same, is this looks like a hardware problem? Should i send it back? There is no settings or something.
sent back to amazon.... end

P20 pro lens cap/protector

Hi everyone.
So i just got my hands on p20 pro, 2nd hand (pre-loved, as some socialites call it ?), and so far i'm loving it.
I'm considering of installing a physical lens protector cap, like this one:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
but i noticed it doesn't have holes in between 2 top lenses, where there should be an autofocus laser transmitter-receiver set.
I tried looking up more info on how the laser autofocus works and affects the process of taking picture, but so far found none. So I thought of asking about it here.
So my question is, how useful is the laser autofocus, and what will happen if I cover it with the lens cap? Will the camera stop working (like if I cover the second camera, the phone says, 'please don't cover the lens), or the autofocus speed slows down, or maybe no changes at all?
Also, why is there no HDR mode? Is the night mode essentially means HDR mode?
Thank you in advance.
Laser autofocus helps a lot with focusing and keeping the focus on moving objects
The HDR mode is actually VIVID/SMOOTH in the tiny box i think

Hi, sorry for the (very) late reply.
Ah okay, I thought so too (that covering the lasers would hinder in AF ability), so I went with a glass cover instead for the cameras.
Thank you very much.

Wide angle video is not wide as in photo

Anyone noticed that videos are not wide as photos?
In photos I put 4:3 aspect ratio to get the most of the wideness of the wide camera
But in videos I can only put 16:9 or wider which drastically crop out the video frame vertically as well as horizontally.

Any solution for that to get a better field of view?
I really need this for my up coming ski vacation.
Thanks
I think this is because of EIS. The camera crops to avoid shaky blurry image.

Yes I have a solution. first you download the open camera from play Store .than go to the camera settings tap video settings select the 4:3 aspect ratio and after recording the video stretch the video into 16:9 ratio using any editing software .when you don't have a pc . Download powerdIrector from play Store and apply zoom in fx and stretch the video manually.
