High Ping times WiFi - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i just noticed that i don't get any Notifications from Whatsapp or Facebook Manager until i open the App. I think this is a bit strange because i didn't changed anything in the Settings and my Phone is not in Quiet Mode.
So i checked if it maybe turns off Wifi when the Screen is off. If i start ping my phone i get times about 2000ms every 2nd 3rd ping. The Router is about 3 Meter in sight away.
Does anyone have similar Problems?
Thanks
djkroko

You probably have "Queue Background Data" enabled in Settings >Power Management
Or you have STAMINA enabled. Whitelist Whatsapp and Messenger

[Q] gmail not checking for messages while in standby

I just got my phone last night.
I notice that my gmail does not check for messages while my phone is in standby.
If I have a message,I don't get it until I wake up the phone. I have my wifi to stay on.
While troubleshooting this,I realized I can't find where to set any of the auto sync settings....
Thanx,
Ron

Sync settings are in the accounts menu. There seems to be a known bug with wifi where if the phone is sleeping for a while data will not flow until the device is woken up again. Many people are experiencing this.

It's not really a bug, just a weird "feature" of ICS, of data connection going to sleep when the screen is off.
Download Power Saver settings https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.logicvoid.powersaversettings&hl=en
and uncheck the very first setting. That will allow the data connection to stay active while the screen is off.

Well, with that option unchecked, I get my gmail while the phone is asleep. With that option checked, I don't get it until I turn the screen on. So I take that to mean that it works.

Good to know, thanks.
Just installed Power Saver Settings, but it seems like some of those options actually conflict with the ones in the Settings menu. And what does turning off the "1 CPU" option do? Is the phone by default only running one core and at >1GHz?

Viber app keeps Wi-Fi ON.

Ever since I installed Viber app my Wi-Fi wan't turning off when in sleep mode. After I force stopped the application it wen't back to normal.
My phone consumes a lot of power, when Wi-Fi is on. About 2-3% per hour. It's kind of what it should do, yeah, because You can make calls on it.
Is there a way to disable the calling function so that it would only periodically check for only messages, as I have a free-talk on all operators available in my country, and I don't use the calling function on the app obviously.
Doesn't seem to be problem with Mobile Data, as the download size is significantly lower.
Change the WiFi sleep policy in Viber settings.

When you switch Stamina Mode on it turns everything off but calls and texts. You can add more apps if you wanna get notifications. Simply go to the Power management - stamina mode and click on apps + active on standby and add the apps you wanna get notifications

Hi I'm also using whatsapp all the time with stamina mode on but never encountered this problem. It is likely possible that whatsapp is being killed or acces to GCM is being blocked or regulated somehow?

my hotmail email push notification is also delayed for 20 mins when screen is off. instantly if screen on. turn off everything I can think like OP. anyone has same issue?

Stamina Mode not working?

I bought the device a couple of days ago and i love it. But i experience some sort of glitch with stamina mode. No matter what, some notifications still come through (Foursquare, facebook etc) and i have no apps whitelisted except tasker!
Does anyone else has that issue ? i'm on stock .402 rooted (locked BL)
The whitelist is for alowing apps to keep the phone active, not anything else
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I know that, but i think you misread what i wrote (well my English sucks anyway )
What i wanted to say is that i don't have any whitelisted apps (except for tasker which i need it active), but i still get notifications from facebook, foursquare etc. From my understanding of how Stamina mode works, The device shouldn't allow any notifications from popping up.
Any ideas?

It doesnt block notifacations
You can stop those from the personalization menu

Obviously it doesn't block notifications, but if stamina mode is on it shouldn't allow apps to use the data connection while the screen is off (because it turns the data connections off) hence Facebook/messenger etc notifications shouldn't come through until you turn the screen back on unless the app is white listed. I think the Op is on to something because I noticed the same issue with Fb messenger the other day, didn't notice it before because I almost never use stamina mode but I'm fairly sure this is either a new 'feature' or bug because stamina mode doesn't behave this way on my Z ultra

Thank you! I'm glad i'm not the only one experiencing this.
The thing is - if you have any app on whitelist, which wake device from stamina mod, it enable internet connection as well and your apps are checking for updates.
I really doubt there's any chance to avoid that...
So, when Tasker wake up device all other apps are behaving just like you unlocked the screen and Internet connection is established.

Oh i didn't think of that. That would explain a lot. From what i gathered about Stamina mode, i always thought that it would enable internet connection only for the whitelisted apps I'll try with no apps in the whitelist, to see if it works.

Yep, that's fair - but I don't actually have any apps whitelisted, maybe they'll fix it with the next update, it's not such an issue for me because as I said I never really use stamina mode because the battery life is good enough without it - it is a bit annoying because I used to use stamina mode when I wanted to mute all Web based notifications

It should work like that, they should build firewall for that to block all other app but, apparently, they didn't.
For me that's OK, if one app wakes up my device to refresh it, why not to update all apps and notifications...
But it could be annoying if you don't want that...

Well, as soon as i removed all whitelisted apps, stamina mode starting working *almost* at it should. I said almost because it doesn't make sense to have a whitelist option if it effectively destroys the purpose of having a "Stamina" mode.
Anyway, i have faith in sony fixing it.
Hmm interesting, maybe I need to do a factory reset on mine then
I think the stamina mode is a bit bugged because I notice my apps stop working properly even thou they in the list. For instance, my outlook (emails stop syncing), wechat (can't send or receive anything), or whatapp (delayed messages sometimes). Even if you wake the phone up, the apps is already stopped working so I have to force stop and to start the app again for it work. I think this also explains why the location based WiFi seems not working at times for me too. I turned off stamina mode and the issue has went away.
The interesting thing is that, I have stamina mode turned on family members Xperia T2 Ultra, Z Compact and Z Ultra, it works works fine for them as they have WeChat as well.
If Stamina mode don't work properly, clearing data of "Eco Mode Controler" in settings>all apps can help.

Just curious, why would someone not use the Stamina Mode? I mean, what makes you not use it? I didn't see any negative effects it puts on phone, AT ALL. Other than that "extended usage" option, which slows the phone a bit.

I have that issue too. 1 week after i bought the device stamina mode run well. When the screen off no notification (line, WA etc) then I wake up the screen all notification come. But now it doesn't work. I did re flash and factroy reset but stamina mode still error. I went to Sony Service Centre, they upgrade my os but still error. They said maybe hardware problem. Is that true hardware problem? or software problem? Because i have 2 friends with sony xperia z2 but their stamina mode run well. any idea? sorry if my english bad. Thanks before

Exactly for those reasons listed above, I have fb, WhatsApp, Skype and many more notifications coming through that require the data connection and I want to receive the messages immediately rather than whenever I decide turn my phone screen on. If I used stamina mode I'd then have to whitelist all these apps, there's no point - I may as well just keep stamina mode off. I don't get much gain out of using it anyway because I use my phone a lot during the day where having stamina mode might give me an half a day of use - pointless because the phone still won't last through day 2 so I'd still have to charge it every night. So given that I have to charge it every night with or without stamina mode, its far more convenient to keep stamina mode off so I don't have to worry about missing notifications
this solution worked for my friend try it
open wifi settings>advanced>keep wifi on during sleep make it never ...make sure that there is no apps in "apps active in standby mode and make the activation always on ..try it and goodluck ..

Trouble with notifications

Having trouble when phone has been in sleep for half hour or more. Notifications coming through wifi are not working. I've being trying to solve it since yesterday but I'm not having any luck.
I've made sure the apps in question are on auto start in permissions, turned off ultra long standby mode in battery power management settings and set the apps to be exempt from cleaning in app protection settings and even turned off 'align wakeup' in power management, and of course wifi is set always on.
Phone is x820 model running fresh china 17S rom, to which i manually installed google play, gmail, bbm apps.. bbm and gmail are the apps in question are the ones not getting notifications, even though phone can receive an sms messages no problem, weirdly even receiving an sms doesnt spring the other notifications to work, also when turning the screen back on notifications still don't come for up to ten minutes even though wifi is working fine.
Any help would be really apreciated, thanks
Hi,
I'm in the same situation as you.
Also my calendar doesn't want to sync. I've flashed phonesky.apk for google apps but it doesn't contains google agenda sync adapter.. so no agenda sync
I've some app which is always run but seems to be cut by the system
Also have a lot of start up app (reboot) but nothing start huhu
17s china
Yeah it's pretty odd. Maybe the trying the Indian rom is the solution.
Generally the settings for notifications should be done in this way:
1. Check that notifications for the desired apps are ON under the menu Settings - Notification Management
2. Allow the apps to start automatically under the menu Settings - Permissions - You have allowed ... apps to auto launch
3. Disable the auto cleaning of the apps under Phone manager - Power Saving Management - App protection
I have Lock-Screen cleanup unchecked, Ultra-Long standby during sleep checked, Align wakeup checked, Clock night-alignment mode checked.
In this way I have no problems with notifications with whatsapp, viber, e-mail (I'm using yahoo mail with the stock email app), fb messenger, Facebook.
If the above are done and stil there are no notifications, then check in the app itself. The last but not least, reflash the firmware.

thanks for the info, you may be right that it is bbm and the specific gmail account playing up, the phone is for my son and on his old phone was getting @1000 notifications gmail a day lol, i cleaned it up and maybe that's made that gmail acount weird for now.
anyway can i ask what rom you are running, thanks

It's seems when my screen is off, the data is also off because i've shown 0.00kb/s when there is a connection to internet (wifi or data)
but when i turn it on, 1 sec later it show 0.00kb/s so when screen is off, no data ??

If your data will work all the time, then the battery will be drained fast. The phone connects from time to time to the Internet and then you'll get the necessary notifications. I cannot tell you how often is this, but you can decrease the time by deselecting Align Wakeup in Power Saving Management.
I am not sure that the way described above is correct, so if someone knows differently, please state.
edit.. thought i found a workaround, but I jumped the gun. Still trying to work this out.
I'm giving up, thinking about sending phone back under the reason of not fit for purpose
Maybe we need to try cuoco rom.
I've installed gapps by myself so maybe they is a bug with it
I've been testing WhatsApp all night, checking every hour if a message will get through and so far it has.... but i bet as soon as i post this it will stop working, that's the luck i seem to have lol
oddly on 19S rom WhatsApp is automatically set up to lock itself in memory, with the lock sign in recents screen, and autostart enabled in permissions
edit, put the phone in airplane mode while i slept, turned airplane mode off and now whatsapp won't get notifications even with the screen on unless i open WhatsAppl
I'm sure it shouldn't be this hard
