LTE Question - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I'm new to LG been part of samsung for the past 8 years buying 2 of each every year. Decided to try the LG life an love the V10. On a side note an back to the topic on my Note 4 I had the option through the hidden menu to set what LTE radio's or frequencies when selected all it would never leave LTE I'm guessing it was using AT&T towers as well. Not to certain never checked into it just enjoyed that option. Does anyone know what or where to go to find that option?

Did you check in the hidden menu?
I am at work and can not tell you now how to access it, but if you search XDA you should be able to find it.

I think he's talking about the preferred network mode setting, since doesn't have LTE only, it does have GSM only if you care about that lol

I know. The hidden menu usually has a way to set a phone to LTE only or GSM or many other options. I just do not know if it is the same on the V10.

LTE only
DO NOT MESS WITH ANYTHING ELSE!
People are saying some other settings will break knock on. So change only what you need and do not explore yet.

Thank you! That's the main reason I didn't mess with the menu at all I'm used to my notes lol

Sorry, forgot to mention. You require 4.1 Jelly Bean for this unlock to work, update if running a lower version of android.

I guess the LTE version is only avialable in d US n dis thing works on that.
I tried those steps you mentioned and the number to dial won't even work. Am I doing it all wrong? I tried it under a us cellular version.
All US Cellular phones are CDMA and will NEVER be able to be unlocked, as that is a GSM "feature."

I have a thought on how to circumvent the USCC version of the phone, but i'm not sure how to make it happen:
first a note: USCC removed the ability to manually program the phone (using dialer codes) as a "safeguard"
note: i think where i am stuck is that i can't find the build.sh file
1) root phone
2) access build.prop file
3) edit CDMA line with GSM line from another provider
4) save
5) reboot
# su
cd system
# vi build.prop

Sorry for calling you a d!ck then. Thanks for not retaliating like a lot of xda members. Naturally I assume these things because they are pretty much given. CDMA phones do not have SIM cards normally, and the Verizon ones are only for LTE (select few have worldwide gsm). No prob. The god of LTE brought along the goodness of gsm radios to many phones. One of the first ones being the rezoundz that I just used in vodafone last month after a few flashing iterations
Sprint a holes on the other side are embedding the sims on all but the iphone 5

I ran in to the same problem with the options part missing. Not sure what else we could do. There might be an option to add them manually, but don't have enough info/knowledge to try that. I also get that missing sim error, but I don't have a sim, so in my case it is true
Which other carriers can the US Cellular version work on?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy HUGE i9200 vs i9205 difference?

Besides the LTE do the two phones have anything else different?
Mostly interested if the addition of the LTE on the i9205 will affect its performance/battery life compared to the i9200?
I ask this because I never buy LTE phones, never used it and don't intend to for now since the networks here don't support it,
so no need for it but I cannot find the 3G i9200 anywhere in Europe to buy it. Only the LTE i9205.
If it has no performance/battery loss then I will be "forced" to buy the LTE version and be done with it.
So even if I buy the LTE version I read that it has a second cellular modem that works with normal 3G/GSM networks?
I don't wanna buy it and then discover its not working on any network here.
I will really appreciated if someone can give me an answer to my concerns. Thanks.
UPDATE: I managed to get the 3G version I wanted in first place. You can view the thread below.

The i9205 works with 2G, 3G, and 4G. Your network doesn't have to to be LTE capable for it to work.

will eat up battery since it will probably be on and keep searching for LTE networks?

Hi J,
I flashed it with about 5 different firmwares using Oden still no luck. I do want it badly knowing i have a 4g phone and no 4g.
Im in Sri lanka using Dialog carrier. I got the phone from states through a friend. I have read the forum from up to down to find a solution.
I know Oden helps you upgrade it (seen on you tube) but still it does not help, I wonder if there is a problem with the software it self.
I would try any suggestions at this time.
Thanks

[Q] Grandfathered T-Mobile $5 data plan on Galaxy S5?

Is there any way for me to get my grandfathered $5/month "Preferred Phone First Unlimited Web Only" data plan to work on a Galaxy S5?
Currently I am told "Your data plan does not work on this device", but it works fine on an HTC Radar 4G.
I'm hoping to at least get some part of the data plan working on this phone, even if some features might be limited (i.e. even if I can only check email, that's better than nothing)... currently I can't use my data plan at all on this phone.

Which APN do you mean? If you mean epc.tmobile.com, it doesn't work -- I still get the same error as I did with fast.t-mobile.com (yup I switched to WCDMA/GSM, and verified LTE was off).

Yup I just replied to that one right now.
Question though: is WCDMA/GSM 3G or 4G? Or is it a marketing ambiguity? I'm confused because online sources say WCDMA is 3G whereas the phone changes from "4G LTE" to "4G" (not "3G") when I switch to that...

Just go to settings then about phone and click Status and see what type of network you are connected to . It will say UMTS or HSPA+ .Depending where you are will decide which one . I just turned my phone to that setting GSM/WCDMA and I am showing HSPA+ . So that means you should get HSPA+42 which isnt bad at all here in saint louis .. I see actual DL speeds of up to 20Mbps on HSPA+42 . Did you call TMOBILE and tell them about your problem ? I wouold think if you are grandfathered in then they should take care of your problem by offering the true unlimited on LTE ..Unless that isnt in the original contractT

Oh I see, I'll take a look under the status then.
No I haven't tried calling T-Mobile, and frankly I don't know what our original contract looks like (I don't think I have a copy, and if I ask them to send me a copy I'm not sure I could trust them to have not changed the terms).
I'm also worried if the wrong rep sees the plan, he/she will mess it up -- most of them have a tendency to go to great lengths to get you off the grandfathered plans (they aren't even all aware that the plan exists) so it's not worth the risk for me at the moment.
If you log into your tmobile account it should blaintently show that you have the $5 data . I dont think there is anyway they could mess that up .. If I had UNlimited I would defenitely want to use LTE .

Well it says "Preferred Phone First Unlimited Web Only", but like I said, I've read more than on horror story about how representatives have messed it up... if I have to go that direction I will, but I'm not convinced yet that I do.

When you say "unlimited web only" that is different then "unlimited data". Those are very old plans that were out for specific phones. In order to get this to work, you are going to have to Google a lot and figure out the proper apn settings. What does the Radar 4G specify as its APN settings? I would try to get as much information from that phone as I could. Secondly, it could be that T-Mobile is reading the device you are using and then not allowing it to work on their end.

Yes Elsebb commented below and what he said is what you should go with ... i didnt think about the web only thing . that is completely different. You need to figure out the correct APN settings and go with that . I think it might be impossible to use LTE with it . cant really hide LTE

It doesn't seem to be related to the APN at all. I just tried another new Android 4.4.2 phone (I'll avoid mentioning what kind since I don't want T-Mobile to see this and block it =P) and it works just fine on LTE with the typical fast.t-mobile.com APN.
I guess that means it's based on the IMEI, meaning you just have to find a brand/model that works, so there isn't much hope for the S5.

You know what, i remember when i was getting a new phone carrier that i heard of Go Phone and that if you purchased a Go SIM for an ATT phone, it simply won't work, but if you bought a GSM phone and unlocked it (one that wasn't ATT branded) it worked perfectly.
I wonder if you are experiencing something similar. The S5 that you have, is it T-Mobile branded? And if it is, is the Android 4.4.2 phone you just tried now T-Mobile branded? That might be the issue.

That's possible but somewhat unlikely since my HTC Radar was also T-Mobile branded just like my S5. I can't rule it out without testing it on an unlocked phone.

No, but I don't have any reason to believe LTE is relevant here (it never seems to make a difference in any scenario).

The thing I'm getting at is that phone because it doesn't have lte, is an "approved" T-Mobile phone that works with that plan. See if you can get an unlocked att s5 and see if it works.

Gear S Dialer Codes, Service Mode

Hey guys and gals I was dabbling around and got curious and used the S4 Dialer Codes from that forum and they also (most of them) work on the Gear S, so maybe we can also try and tweak these little device's from the service menus like our phones, see my screenie for proof, I used *#0011# and also tried *#197328640# and it works too, I don't know a whole lot about the functions within these menus and I know that if you mess around in there you can really screw up your device so TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK OR DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE!..I just wanted to point this out since I didn't see any threads or topic about this yet and maybe a DEV can jump in to provide some guidance as to the functions within these service menus.
S4 Dialer codes forum.

Ok just browsing through the menus and if you select [4] Reserved just look what's in there! and although this is the only setting that would not enable does this mean it is possible to enable it via software? Could LTE be built in awaiting another software enabling update like other sammy devices? that would be pretty slick! an LTE Smart Watch!
doesnt the t mobile version already have LTE? Thats how they are advertising it..
No, none of the Gear S has LTE. Don't confuse '(fake)4G' with LTE.
wow, shocked that a mobile company would engage in deceptive advertising! :cyclops:
actually, its a non issue, considering how little actual data use most will be using with a smart watch at this point..

From what I can see the only symbol that pops up on my t-mobile Gear S is 4G, but my question is why would LTE band selection be inactive within the service menus, none of the previous gear watches had LTE so why would it be in there? And its funny how selection 4 says reserved where the LTE selection is.

The LTE is likely showing because it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip in it. That chipset supports LTE as well as dual mode GSM/CDMA (e.g., the same watch would work on Verizon as well as AT&T), as well as quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900), but that doesn't mean the radios are actually in it.
That menu is very likely a holdover from the S400 operator menus in other devices. Manufacturers tend to be lazy when it comes to modding things like that.
Of course, until there is a teardown we don't really know what all is inside this watch. Also, the previous Gears didn't have the same service menus because they don't have chipsets that support independent cellular radios.

I can agree with you and for sure a tear down would be a good source of information.

I asked iFixIt and they say they are too busy ... which is shocking to me given what's inside of this watch ... Somehow the Kindle Voyage is more important to them ... HAH.
I don't know what the deal is but the media is REALLY resistant to the Gear S. And I don't like that at all.

Surprisingly the user manual from the UK site HAS disassembly instructions in the last few pages.
Ostensibly this was for replacement of the battery......
Doesn't seem very difficult. Remove the screen, and everything else is right underneath.

Mobile data UK

I bought the handset in UK and everything works fine except I cannot get the mobile data to work. I have a good reception, the handset shows 3G but no arrows to the side of it. I have changed the APN settings to my network (Talkmobile), switched on mobile data etc. but still no mobile data, please help.
when my phone dropped to 3g the internet didn't work either here in Ireland on 3 mobile.
4g would rarely stick, just putting the phone in my pocket sent it back to 3g.
this is most likely a hardware problem not software.

Thanks, but I've never got mobile data to work at all, the APN settings are all correct and the 3G symbol appears on the screen, just no arrows next to it.
A fair few people are having the same problem, myself included.
It works better if you switch to 3g only, but sometimes that doesn't help either.
Let's all hope elephone get there act together on this, it's all very well having a great screen, CPU etc, but with no network data (& sometimes calls) it counts for nothing.

Thanks for this. In the APN settings I just changed the APN type from 'net' and 'MMS' to 'default' and this worked.
It's weird, is there some sort of learning process with this phone & network settings?
When I first got the phone it was rubbish, but as i used it more & more it got better. But then I rooted it & did a factory reset & same again. This morning I put the darksense rom on & it was still rubbish. But as the day's gone on its got a lot better - 4g & everything is working fine.
But thanks, I'll bear the APN change in mind
There are lots of APN settings to edit, I don't want to mess with what I don't know, although sometimes that's the only way. Does anyone have knowledge in this department?

This code just gives me info, can't change anything.
Do you mean *#*#3646633#*#*?
& then where to select usa?
Have a try at this:
Settings>data usage>mobile networks>network operators (will search, might take a minute)>select your operator in the list, in my case 3(4g).
For me it's been solid since, 4g a lot too.
oddly enough changing the band to USA is keeping the phone on 4g for me yet im in Ireland on 3 mobile.
had it set to Europe or Automatic before that.
lets see does it stand the test of time.

I'm definitely beginning to think this whole issue is a wrong network setting, what I did worked for me (solid all day) - post #10, & I've seen a few do this & it's worked too
after a full day it definitely fixed the issue, 4g signal is strong
cant believe they mixed up something like this.
the average novice wont have a clue what to do.
i was on the brink of flogging the phone.
---------- Post added at 03:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:13 PM ----------
Update major issue if you change the band to USA via *#*#4636#*#*.
The 4g data will work great but you can't receive or make calls unless you change it back to Europe.
How do i change the band?

Press the three dots top right at phone information
(*#*#4636#*#* -> phone information)
As far as I know Talkmobile doesn't have 4G they only offer 3G for now so no matter what you do with the APN you'll never get 4G, also with most MVNO services you will alway need to setup the APN manualy as they use someones elses network in the case of Talkmobile they use Vodafone.

I'm also with Talkmobile, I've tried almost everything but 3G is not working. Seriously considering returning the phone.
