Where to download Amazon Appstore App Store APK now? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need to install Amazon Appstore but searching for it only leads me to Amazon Underground which I believe is a different app. I already accumulated a lot of Amazon Apps and don't really want to give away permissions. Clearly Amazon Appstore still works on my other phones.
Is the Amazon Appstore APK still available through official channel?

Your link points to the Amazon Underground app.

I ended up finding an older Amazon Appstore update APK from my other phone. I copied it over and installed it successfully.

[Q] Question About Amazon Apps

I have read all the Amazon App threads I could find and I noticed someone posted that there was a thread that explained a way to install the amazon apps once you downloaded them without the need to have the app store installed. I cannot find that thread.
Is there a way that if I want to delete the amazon app store and then install or reinstall the apps I got from them(free or paid) without needing the app store app installed or can you point me to the thread please.
Also is there a way for the regular market to recognize them so I can get any updates in the future?
Thank you
I second this question... I'd love to know the answer

I think you just need to keep the appstore installed. No big deal.
Technically you can delete the appstore and keep the apps installed...but they won't run, so not too useful. I haven't noticed any problems with having it installed though, may I ask what the point is?

I was just messing around with the phone and going thru my I dont need this and dont need that and decided I didnt want to have the amazon app & the amazon app store app anymore and unistalled them. Then about a day later, went to play one of the apps I did get from there and it didn't run.
Was just curious. Still in my eris frame of mind when I used to go thru my apps and take out ones not really used so I could save space.
Im getting help now in dealing with getting rid of the Eris low memory complex...
Thanks all
This situation may be related.
I had moved Amazon apps to SD card (at least I think it was one of the apps I moved :/ ). Regardless, I tried to use an app from Amazon; I could not use it until I had signed on at Amazon's site.

Same here. I cannot run any Amazon app if the Amazon Appstore is uninstalled. Also, I cannot update any Amazon app through AppBrain or the Market because it appears the packages are signed differently. Need to update the Amazon apps through Amazon Appstore.
Well I guess this is the caveat of getting the free apps... I wonder if this also applies to apps you've actually spent money on through amazon app store...

Most likely. The only way to get updates for your Amazon apps is to go through the Amazon Appstore, whether they are paid or free.
I would have to agree; free or paid, you likely have to be signed in. Tis a pain to be electronic slaves to sites, ain't it?
Yes, you need to have Amazon App Store (AAS) installed and signed in, in order to update paid apps. I confirmed this last night when trying to use Titanium Backup which I purchased through AAS.
I can't really see a reason not to have it installed though, literally, the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning after turning my alarm clock off is checking to see what app they have available...

Amazon apps show as purchased on Android Market.

All of my purchased apps from the Amazon app store are showing as purchased on the Android app store. If I delete an app from Amazon and want to purchase from Android I can not. It still shows as purchased. When I click to download it says that I have not purchased this app. How can I fix this?
Clear you Market data under Manage Apps, it might help.
That doesn't work, I have already tried that.
I have been looking for the same solution with no success.
Have you tried reinstalling from the Appstore and using Titanium Backup to detach from the Market?
You should then be able to purchase it.
I think these issues have something to do with the Google backup thing. It backs up your apps list and even if you uninstall it it still shows sometimes. I don't use the backup feature for this reason, it's buggy & I prefer to restore them myself anyway.

I installed an old version of the Market (2.2.11) I had and now my Amazon apps don't show up as purchased. I was able to buy one that I had previously got from Amazon.
This is a known issue and is being worked on by Google. Has to do with the devs using the same signing key for both markets.
What's wrong with buying them from Amazon again (untill it is fixed)?

It is not an issue with the android market, it is a "cross market" issue.
Bumping for help. Google'd this issue and found this thread.
I'm having the same issue on my Galaxy Nexus. I got mSecure from the Amazon app store as a FAOTD a long time ago and want to purchase it in the Android market now since it's for sale for 50 cents and the app is like 8 versions newer (seems Amazon apps don't get updated near as often or fast as the native market). But it's showing purchased on every device I try it on. I've uninstalled both mSecure and the Market app (through Titanium) from my phone and re-installed, which seems to have prompted my phone to update to the new "Google Play Store" that just launched today, but had not affect on mSecure's status. I've also tried to purchase it from my browser on the phone and my PC. Shows purchased every time.
Very annoying and I don't want to miss this sale! Any workarounds found yet?
Thanks!
Edit: I may have found a fix. I just contacted Google Support and got a hold of a very knowledgeable and helpful rep who had to forward my case to an account specialist to square me away. I got an e-mail chain from him to the specialist so I can reply back any issues I have as they work on it. He said he's seen this before and they have to update an "order code" or something to that affect so I can order it. I'll update if/when they fix it.
I found this on another thread. Please thank to OP, he really helped me out.

[Q] Download free Apps from Google Play without Market

Yep, you've read that right: I'm looking for a way to download some FREE apps from google play without having the market installed. To make a long story short: I don't like the market to know what my phone runs. So is there any software I could download there free app "My Callya" with? Have looked everywhere on the interwebs, but can't find it. I'd be more than happy about a download link to it though.
Why not use titanium backup, and just remove the market links after downloading it.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA
It's not about the links on my phone, but some issue I generally have about privacy when hearing the word "Google". Therefore, how to get the goodies without using the market?
If you're not going to use Google Play, you'll have to use another market. I came across http://androidpit.com which might be useful to you. It also allows you to buy apps with paypal.
But isn't there a way to obtain the free APKs without such software?
Not from Google Play. It requires a unique device ID that you can only obtain by actually registering your device with Google.
And once you've done that you might as well just get it from Play.
Fair. Any other recommendable place where the device ID is not required?
No matter what you're using, you'll have to have a secondary market of some sort. There's also the Amazon Appstore which you can install from Amazon.com and it doesn't use your device ID, just your Amazon account. Really, you just have to choose a place you trust since you seem to be really concerned with privacy and who stores data about what apps you have.
You can try Amazon, but you won't find all of the apps that are available in the Play Store. You can always search for the apks online, since people tend to post them for others that cannot access them for whatever reason. If you're interested in purchasing apps, Amazon would be the way to go, or most devs have a way to purchase from their website. Installing the Amazon Appstore will help you with a lot of apps that you'd like to download, plus they feature one paid app for free every day. If you "purchase" it while it's free, it will be tied to your Amazon account so that you can install it on another device as well or reinstall if you decide to uninstall it. Most of the free apps of the day are crap, but every now and then you'll find a good one.
I'll see if I can find the app you're asking for on the Market, download it, and post the apk for you.
Edit: Couldn't find the app on Google Play. I must not be able to access it due to screen resolution or OS version or something. If you know that it's in the Play Store because you've seen it from the website, maybe someone else can access it for you. If not, check the Market website and make sure it's still published and hasn't changed names or something.
Ohhh, and I think I read about an extension for Chrome that allows you to directly download apks from the Play Store website. I don't know if your Google account has to be registered to a phone or not.
kind of late but if anyone else is looking for a solution, this might work as stated above.
it basically turns the google play store links into downloadable .apk links
http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/
To get started, enter the web URL of any app listed on the Google Play store and click the “Generated Download Link” button. The APK download app will fetch the APK file from the Google Play store and will host it on its own servers from where you downlaod the file.
Since the APK files are directly fetched from the Google Play Store, it’s unlikely that the Android App will be infected with any malware. Also, to prevent app piracy, the APK downloader only lets you download free apps and games from the Google Play store, not the paid ones.

Amazon Prime Video

Is it possible to watch Amazon Prime Video on this tablet?
I've installed the Amazon app (phone version, not "for Tablets") and Prime Instant Video on my brand new Nexus 9 using the Amazon App Store. With my previous tablet, this would allow me to watch Prime Video using the Amazon app.
But with the Nexus 9, the "Video" option is missing from the pull out menu.
I'm interested in any possible workaround!
No, it doesn't work. If you sideload the Amazon Instant Video apk and run it you just get an error message saying its not supported. Thanks, Amazon....

Amazon Prime streaming on Android is offered for phones only - not tablets. On my previous Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 (don't buy that device) I was able to side load the phone app and get video streaming to work that way. But Amazon seems to have the Nexus 9 blacklisted for being a "tablet".
Since it worked on my N7 FHD running L preview once I upgraded the app to 5.1, I was hoping it would work on N9.

Could you not just edit the build.prop to make the Amazon app think that's it's an allowed device?

I haven't tried this yet, but it's likely the only option for the foreseeable future. Let's hope Amazon change their ridiculous Kindle tablet strategy sooner rather than later!
Curious, if you change the build.prop for one app does it not mess
up the other apps?
I'm extremely interested in getting AIV working too. I actually complained to amazon and they cited the no tablet policy, I griped that it worked on my Nexus 7 and I see no reason at all why they would block tablets. They basically said sorry and credited me $5 which was nice but now it looks like I have to hack something.
I've not tried this on a Nexus 9, but have you tried Firefox and Flash using the old Flash apk that's lying around? I can view Amazon Instant on my Nexus 7 this way. It even supports full screen viewing.
Update: as it turns out my Nexus 9 was stuck on an older firmware and the OTA failed for some reason, even if I tried sideloading them. I got the latest image from Google and wiped my N9 and put that on and now amazon prime will play videos and doesn't show the unsupported device message.
I am seeing a lot of buffering but that's a whole different issue.
Regarding Flash, crashes Firefox for me every time.

after you loaded the factory image from google, did you have to do anything special or just install the amazon for tablets app from the play store. Going to work on this on my nexus 9 tonight, but in order to get it working on my nexus 7 with lollipop I had to install the amazon appstore app, then install the amazon shopping app (for phone) from within the amazon appstore.

Are you also stuck on the original shipping version of 5.0? I was stuck on the one that isn't available for download, and my updater said everything was up to date.
Near as I am aware the only way to get the prime instant video app is from the amazon app store so you need that to get it. Then the instant video app will likely tell you to go get the amazon store app as well even though you might already have that from the play store. Apparently the AIV needs the special amazon store app from their app store.
Update 2: it appears the buffering issue isn't amazon's fault, there are plenty of video playback issues with Android 5 it seems.
I'm forced to admit this is the worst Android experience I've ever had and it certainly isn't limited to this one little issue.

I'm on build 5.0 (LRX21R).
The process you describe above is exactly what I had to do to get it working on my 2012 Nexus 7. However, with my Nexus 9 I'm encountering an issue with the Amazon appstore app - it installs with no issue, but when I try to sign into my amazon account I get an error message and I'm unable to log-in.
Thanks for your reply/help.

I had the same problem with the store app, seemed to be related to multiple downloads IMO. Check your downloads folder and see if you have their store app downloaded multiple times with a (2) or such at the end of the file, if so delete all copies of the store app downloaded. Clear data on the store app and uninstall that, then download one copy of the store app from amazon, it shouldn't have ()in the file name. Try again with that one.
Edit: it might also be too many attached devices in amazon. There is a place to clear those out on amazon if it's loaded up with a bunch of different devices.
I got it working.
1. Deinstall amazon app from your device.
2. Install the amazon app-shop from amazon website (i used this URL: http://www.amazon.de/gp/mas/get/android/ref=mas_rw_ldg&tag=an-artikel21)
3. Install the amazon app from the app-shop app (!not Form Google play store)
4. install the amazon instant Video app from amazon app-shop app
5. have fun watching videos
Good luck. Greetz

Amazon Appstore

For anyone who doesn't have it, I would really suggest it. This is the Appstore from the kindle devices and the great thing about it is that it offers 1 free paid app every day (at the moment it's Monument Valley) and during holidays it offers a lot more. You can easily get it from the Amazon website. ?
What I dislike about it, I downloaded MV for free during a 1 day promo last year, is that when I uninstall the app store (even temporarily) it's impossible to run the apps it has installed, really dislike this kind of control/DRM personally. If anyone knows a workaround I'd love to hear about it, of course!

I don't think there is but it's I don't think keeping the app I stalled is a big deal given the huge amount of storage you get with the g4 and it's always a better alternative to downloading apps illegally or paying for them ?

Hmmm. I always jump on these free apps/games during their promotions where I typically install the the stupid App store, "GET APP", then cancel the download... just so it is "purchased".
Never did I ever have to keep the Amazon Store to run the games I downloaded. They just show up in my App Drawer as normal apps.
Then log out of the amazon app store and try to run one of these usually payed apps. Having the same issue with tunein from amazon. Only works when I'm logged in.
What is the difference between the amazon app store and the amazon app, where you can download apps as well? Does the amazon app store have more apps thsn amazon?
