Nope, any SIM other than a Verizon Wireless one will simply say Invalid SIM.

If you don't mind telling me, what process is the one required so that the phone recognizes SIMS from other companies? Flashing? Sorry for the amateur question.

I have no idea. There isn't anything to flash. No roms, no kernels, no recoveries no nothing. There appears to be zero interest in this variant by the dev community.

I guess i will wait a bit for those tools before i give up and try to sell this device since its no use to me, being unable to use SIMS for other companies.

Thanks for the information fellas. So basically we have to wait until someone with the knowledge can extract those files (Roms, kernels, recoveries).
By some of the comments i've seen here, i get the impression that only the high-end phones are the ones that the community gets behind? How unfortunate if true.
By the way i saw in a different post someone uploaded a Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/grand-prime/development/rom-download-sm-s920l-straight-talk-usa-t3265004/page2

Yes, and that ROM will turn your Grand Prime into a Core Prime (Franken Prime) with lots of things not working. There are no stock roms available for this variant.

hey
as far as I know, only build #10 devices are not root able
if you want to root your tablet, enable USB-Debugging in your options,
after you have done that, go to this post, install the usb drivers, if you want to test if adb is working, start the batch file, which is located in the folder of the drivers, than type in the batch file, "adb devices", without" ", if it found devices, proceed to the next step
got to this post, download the AoI tool by condi, extract the tool, start the tool
type in "1" than press enter, wait till it's finished, exit.
congrats your tablet is rooted
I would recommend you, to also install the rescue-backdoor.
I hope that I could help you with my confusing tutorial

yes u can only do install rescue backdoor after the tab is rooted.
rooting in android means gaining root access. Market aka PlayShop is a place where all androids apps/games are hosted. Weather u can play on Sony Tab or other android devices are purely base on the Android version (eg: 2.3.5(GB), 3.2.1(HC), 4.0(ICS) ).
if u ever come across apps like Titanium Backup, CPU Tuner... u will need root previlages to run it because it is meddling with the Android system settings which default the tab is mainly run as a normal user. Also, with rooted android devices, u can change the wifi binary to support adhoc wifi which again, by default it is not enabled. It seems that ICS does support it thou base on the adhoc wifi functions i see.
hope this info gives u a better picture about android rooting. for apple devices u jailbreak to install free apps or freely distributed IPA files.

[Q] can't get token id on htc desire x

hi guys, i'm new in this forum, and i'm new to android too, i just bought a htc desire x and want it to be root, but i have problem when trying to get token id in hasoon2000 HTC Desire X All-In-One Toolkit V2.0 [1-1-2013], it says C:\ Document is not recognized as an internal or external command openable program or batch file.
usb debugging is already connected, please any one kindly fixing my problem, thx
sorry for my bad english. btw i'm from indonesia
Did you follow these steps?
How To Use. THIS IS FOR THE PC ONLY. No plans ever for Mac or Linux. Sorry.
1. Download the toolkit DO NOT RENAME THE FOLDER
2. Download Winrar from here. Install it after you download it
3. Extract the folder anywhere.
4. Run the program.
thx for replying so quick, after i downloaded then i extract to desktop and just run the program by clicking the symbol written as desire, am i doing it right?
Try to unpack it somewhere else on a root of some partition of your PC, try to unpack it to non system partition.
ok thx, i'll try it tomorrow, i'm sorry i've to go home coz it's 11.41pm already in my town, and i'm still on friend's house.
thx anyway for your reply, i'll let you know the progress
hi nlooooo, i did what u told me to do and it worked, i unpacked to (Cdrive, but another problem came on my device when i clicked get token id.
here is the picture shows the problem
@nlooooo.....i just tried your way on rooting this device, and same problem came up on step 8 when getting token id, still it says C:\ Document is not recognized as an internal or external command openable program or batch file, i've found out my device still locked, is it because of the device still lock? here's the image shown
problem solved
hi nlooooo......i've rooted my device, just try to put all the downloaded file to C:drive, and followed your tutorial on your thread, and i succeeded, at least i saw superuser on my device, thx alot for your tutorial.
No problem, that's why we're here. If you see it then it should be it. Try to install some app that requires root privileges (Titanium Backup for ex) and see if it can get SU rights.
hi.....any recommendation of apps or what to do after this rooting? cos i really a noob in android and root things. thx

Go and open Superuser app, swipe to first screen and see if the binary is installed. Then go and clear data for Titanium and open it again.
If you still have the problem use some root explorer to check folder system/bin if there is a file named su.

You need root to do this... I probly should have mentioned that. Sorry. Getting root is easy now, there are a could threads on how to root with very easy step by step instructions. After you gain root, purchase root explorer from PlayStore (yes, you have to spend a couple $ but its worth it) and use that app to navigate and delete the file. You will likely use the app again, unless you switch to an iPhone. So it's worth the little bit of money.
I see autorun.iso, I assume that's what you're referring?

Check your usb debugging settings. you might need to either check that box or unchecked it. I can't help much more than that if you're using Windows, I'm a mac user. But that sounds like all you would need to do. Hope it helps.
Verizon installer
Okay here is a weird one (or maybe not). Started getting this when I first connected the S4 to PC via USB. Now when I connect my S3 I am getting the same popup. S3 is rooted never had this message.
I am thinking this is somehow embedded into the new Samsung USB drivers. When the phone is plugged in, some form of check reveals a VZW phone which triggers the installer????
Did anyone figure this out? I was able to stop the Verizon Installer Pop up by renaming the autorun.iso, but there is still a 30 second delay before I get access the the phones internal and external memory.

I think I figured it out. I'm still on original MDK build. I don't know if that changes anything.
1. autorun.iso removed (may not be necessary, but mine is gone)
2. enable hidden menus (step 2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303905
3. enter dialer code *#0808#
4. select MTP+ADB
5. reboot (may not be necessary)
My phone originally had nothing selected. I don't know how to go back to that unselected mode. I can't guarantee anything. It's working for me. My phone now connects in MTP mode within a second or two of connection (unless the phone is in the middle of a reboot, then that has to complete first.)

Removing the file should work, if it's giving you a delay then my guess is either your computer or the device is trying to find the file. Back on my s3 and dna rom I had only removed the file and vzw installer didn't show up

Have you tried framaroot?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
As its a media tek based device it may well work.
Ah yeah, I spent two days trying to find a way to root my w8s, couldn't find a guide anywhere for it.
Eventually I just ran a Google search on my models build number (W8s.JB2.FHD.EN.COM.16P256_MT6589V1.0.2_20130715), after googling that I was fully rooted in about 10 minutes.
There's a program called SRSRoot, download it and install it to your PC, enable USB debugging on your device and run the program on your computer. When it says to connect your device and click the top option in SRSRoot
(I don't have my computer at the moment but I think it was called force root?) The second option in the list (smart root?) Didn't work for me do just click the first option.
The computer will tell you to select from 3 LOTR names on your phone but they actually aren't even options, there's one option on the phone so select that one and select SuperSU (superuser didn't work for me), let it run and it's finished pretty quick. Just reboot the phone and you're done.
I don't have my computer handy to double check the names and settings so I've had to go off memory here but if there's any issues let me know. I was going to create a guide for this because I knew the question was coming but I just haven't got around to doing it.
Try my tool for easier way

I had tried to download Framaroot,to root my THL W8S, but for some reason it wouldn't download on Chrome, so I just spent a couple of hours using other rooting tools unsuccessfully. I then managed to download Framaroot (using Firefox instead of Chrome). I have not come across anything so quick and easy for rooting - it did the job in seconds. Impressive.
will try srsRoot first, then iL Let you know
if this doesn't work Tomorrow, will try the two other methods next

CWM .img file through Mobileuncle tools
after successfully being root, i will try this next,
hope it works for me

I was able to root using Framaroot. I had to try twice though, the first time didn't seemed to work.
To install CWM in a safe way I used Mobileuncle tools from play store. I extracted the .img file from the zip available here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2237779 and used Mobileuncle to install it.
Didn't have to use a PC.

[Q] Fix for KitKat to write external SD card?

Is there a fix for writing the external SD card for the One Max, similar to what has been done for the rooted Samsung Note 3?
I have had enough of not being able to root and run a custom recovery without tripping Samsung's stupid Knox counter. Before I come back to the HTC fold, I want to be sure I will be able to access my external card with KitKat on this phone. Can anyone confirm and share a link?
The solution was posted on the forums here and there and no one bothered to post for this
Quick Google gave me the answer, however i was able to use Root Explorer / ES file manager with root and it was able to do copy files to anywhere in the SD card.

☆☆☆I have tested and can confirm following these directions to the letter on a rooted device, does solve the problem on the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 - SM-P900. I'm now able to write & save to my Sandisk 64gb HS SD card without any problems at all!☆☆☆
Instructions are below in red text. You must be rooted & follow them exactly!
1. Using a root-enabled file manager, navigate to /system/etc/permissions
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart.

Hello All,
Since kitkat 4.4.2 was released on the Galaxy Note 3, many users were unable to write files to the External SD Card. Below is a simple fix for rooted users on the Galaxy Note 3 N9005 ( International Snapdragon Variant).
**Please be advised that I have only tested this on my personal N9005. However, you are free to test it on your own devices at your own risk!! **
1. Using a root-enabled file manager, navigate to /system/etc/permissions
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart.
Attached is a copy of my platform.xml.

Thanks for the info Pradeep. It does make sense that it would be the same fix for the same OS. Any other gotchas I should be aware of? It looks like I can lock/unlock, root/unroot, etc. and still return to bone stock if/when I want to, correct?
I have pretty much convinced myself to dump my Sprint Note 3 for the HTC One Max to get away from Samsung and get this tri-band phone to take advantage of Spark that is supposedly active in my area.

Yes you can easily return to stock, just s-off before updating the ROM and you should be all good to go!

@pradeepvizz here's some more background (article) on the changes that made this necessary.. i had posted it a while back but figured it's probably relevant to attach to this thread now.

Thanks mate! remember reading the article sometime before
but guess what, i was able to copy files using root explorer using root permissions ofcourse! so i really wonder if that even matters for us rooted users.
I am not sure about ES file manager and other file managers, but root explorer did it for me without any change to the stock rom.

I think the true fix is the above which won't require root perms for an app to be able to write to an external SD without (knowing to) prompt for SU.
Root ALWAYS trumps user/service/system accounts... it's the apps that won't know to use root though...
and sadly... i'm still waiting for kitkat.... might have two M8s coming home tonight for the ladies in the house which will only make me crazier...lol

hello,
i have spoken with htc support ... They told me really you can´t make anything on your sd card ... With 3 part software like es file explorer.... I can´t believe it that they don´t know about it before the update to 4.4 .... But i think if htc would make as a manufacturer a file browser .... We could edit things on sd card .... (they told me ... If more than 100 users write such demand to htc support they software engineers will work on it)
but from google it is a thing ... That me makes angry .... Now is a phone with a sd card garbage ... Ok ... Root ... But after that you loose warranty on the motherboard.....
Build in batery, build in memory .... In two years, what will be next ? Buy a high end phone for 3 months and after that exchange ? Because everything is just a demo or a crap of china for 1 time use?
Quality of these days goes down like the human world it is just a mirror, everything what i have bayed in last 2 - 3 years had to be repaired in warranty. (solution .... Back to the woods and run just with a stick this is the new century ... Century of top **** quality?)
This app makes it ultra easy for those rooted to write to SD card - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51527203

I know that .... But i think if HTC as a producer - first part ... producer of the software tooo... could make a file browser... the sd card would be more useful then now .... (now i must go to a pc and make changes .... delete ... write to it...)
After a file browser "commander" from htc .... you could make something with the sdcart from the phone ....

There is a fix but you have to be rooted to be able to edit the platform.xml file or install a zip from recovery that does the same thing.

Sdcards are not useless to Google and carriers. Their apps can still write to them by default. Its only downloaded apps that cannot.
I hope Google reads this and takes this as my notice that they have become evil and it is just sickening.
