My android tablets can connect to wifi very well. Maybe you should go to the after-sale service department for assistance.

i bet your android tablet can not connect to an adhoc wifi network.....and fyi..your home network is not adhoc
im trying to connect my android tablet to wifi via my mobile phone .....but since its an adhoc network it wont see it
try it and you will see it wont see any adhoc wifi networks which makes it pretty much useless if you are on the road

Need my archos 101 to connect to my phone

Has anyone been able to get the galaxy s phone to connect to their archos bluetooth...my galaxy saids paired but the archos saids paired but not connected...plus help someone cuz i have no wifi just my phone's internet and without tethering having this archos is useless..
Join the ranks of countless of people having the same issue, there are many phones that do not work, mainly because of ad-hoc, do a search in the forums and you can read more on it, basically until we get root is not going to work.
Can you not tether via bluetooth (using "wireless tether for root users")?
i know some phones can tether via BT others can't, maybe yours can try it and see, i know my epic doesn't do BT.
Yes I have a epic and it rooted with a 2.2 rom. My archos is not connecting to the my phone but my epic saids paired...I was wondering if I could buy a 3g usb modern for the archos cuz I want to use my archos in my car..

The Archos would likely power the 3G USB modem, but without drivers on the Archos to run the modem, you'll get nothing.
Remember, this is a computer, and like any other computer, just because you can plug something in does not mean it will work. The two devices have to know how to talk to each other (drivers / API).
It is the same thing with the wireless and bluetooth tethering, and there are distinct differences between infrastructure mode and ad-hoc mode in those communication technologies.

thanks well i have a sprint hotspot app on my epic 4g.. but its not paid for. Is there a difference in using sprint hotspot compare to the wireless tethering? Would my archos see my epic 4g if i were to use the hotspot app compare to the wireless tether app i installed?

Yes there is a difference. The hot spot uses infrastructure mode while the tethering uses adhoc. Most Android devices do not support adhoc.

I posted a version of wifi tether that works for me. Could you guys let me know if it works for others, it could be a fix for the android tethering issues across the board (remember this is to be installed on your phone)

ok i followed this guide and now i have my archos connected to my epic..i hate that i had to go back to 2.1 but i guess i'll live wit it.. here the guide for galaxy s user...

i also been using that the only drawback is that i have to go back to 2.1
FWIW I have been able to get BT tether on my Hero (CyanogenMod) working though a tad finicky. I seem to have to pair, disconnect and restart tether on the phone, pair and it works. It always pairs but fails to work (no internet) that first time.
Also i believe there is a version of wireless tether for root that does infrastructure mode wifi.

[Q] (Q)tethering tablet S to iphone

Has anyone got this working?
THX
iPhone 4 on Verizon running MyWi 4.0 and I have to use WEP, not ideal but for the amount of time I tether its not a huge deal.

i'm using 3GS 4.3.3 but no luck with MiWi/pdanet.
Those are all ad-hoc.. As soon as the tablet is rooted, you can hack it to see ad-hoc networks, but as of now it will not see any ad-hoc wifi networks such as ones created with mywi, and pdanet.
You can change the Wireless mode to Infrastructure in Advanced Settings.
Where is "Advanced Settings" ?
I realized when tethering, it only works if making it an open hot spot, no password... it's an android thing.... I had the same result with my sony tablet using my Nexus s, and my friends iphone for tethering

[Q] Internet capabilities when no wireless available

At work I do not have wireless (I KNOW) and I have a Nook Tablet. Can I somehow connect the NT to my PC to get internet capabilities using the USB cable. It is a rooted device if that helps.
You could wireless tether to your android phone if you are rooted.

I'm gonna have to say No.
wireless tethering
I did try barnacle for the wireless tethering but my wifi on NT did not recognize it.

Probably because your phone was using an ad-hoc network which the Tablet won't connect to out of the box. Someone posted a hack here that will allow ad-hoc network connections, just have to search for it.
Edit: Here it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1370955&highlight=ad-hoc+network

Just wanted to confirm that I have used this method to connect the NT to the wifi tether on my og droid - actually got decent speeds over 3G
Worked like a charm, thank you so much. Its because of this site and all the people on here that share their wealth of knowledge that I get to enjoy an optimal electronic experience and I greatly appreciate it!

WiFi bridge?

I might have to use my Prime in a hotel that doesn't have WiFi, but only Ethernet internet connection. Can I use a WiFi bridge (e.g. Netgear WNCE2001) to connect to internet?
Yep.I have used similar item for years to keep my laptop mobile in hotel room. Will work the same.

Have you tried enabling the ad hoc network fix described in the Q&A section, then setting your LAN line adapter to "share" under your adapter settings on your laptop. Then create a adhoc wifi network between your laptop wifi adapter & your tablet. That way you're sharing your LAN line over wifi with your tablet.

Or grab one of the supported USB Ethernet adapters and plug that bad boy right into your dock
I have a Linksys WTR54GS just for those occasions.

Ah, but that defies the point. If I took a laptop with me, I wouldn't need my tablet. I want to travel light, and my laptop is big and heavy.

This is exactly what I need - a wireless travel router.
However, I'm going to buy a WiFi bridge for my wired network printer, which I want to move upstairs. This bridge connects to a WiFi network and allows wired devices to use it. So I'm going to have this device anyway. That's why I asked my original question.
But does a WiFi bridge work the other way around - as a router? My guess is not. If not, then I have to buy a separate device, like the one above. Is that correct?

There are some USB Ethernet adapters that work out of the box with the Prime. Others can be supported easily with a kernel module.
As far as the wifi brigde ...I actually have DD-WRT running on my WTR and it can function as a wireless bridge, client, or access point.
you can use 'connectify' to make your laptop as hotspot.
that way, you can connect the ethernet cable to your laptop, open connectify and you've a wifi connection.
If you have and android phone with root you could install wifi tether and just tether to your device. That's what I do at work.

Do you mean using phone's data connection? I'm going abroad, data roaming cost would kill me.

Share your WiFi connection through WiFi

Hello everyone,
I have bought a Transformer Prime last summer and it's an awesome tablet until now but it has a flaw as everyone knows with its WiFi. I can get no reception at all if I am at a distance from the router and sometimes this is bad.
My HTC Desire though never loses signal and with its 3g connectivity it is great. So I sometimes share my Data connection to my prime and surf the internet but now I have a question and it seems I cannot answer it online.
Is there a way I can share the WIFI connection OVER WIFI ??? If I open Wifi Hotspot the connection is lost. As I see it, there can only be a mode at once, either client or as a hotspot.
Is there a way to make your phone both ? In other worlds can I connect to a wifi connection and share it at the same time ?
Thank you
No, you can't, I think because there's only one antenna.
You can use a range extender or a router with this function, but it's surely more expensive.
You need a wireless repeater or range extender. It's not that expensive.
Buy Two routers that support ddwrt or tomato. They are pretty cheap now unless you want a Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N router.
This is my set up.
Belkin Play N600 HD Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router - $30 from 1salesaday.
Flashed Tomato 1.28 firmware
Wireless 1 : Wifi - G 2.4Ghz
Wireless 2: Wifi - N 5Ghz
I have another old Asus RT-N12 on 2nd floor.
I think I paid $30 from newegg long time ago.
Flashed ddwrt and set it up as repeater. It basically connects to Belkin Wifi -G and broadcast wifi-G under another SSID
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Universal_Wireless_Repeater
Wireless 3 : Wifi - G 2.4Ghz
This might work but it's still a wired connection.
Disconnect your phone from mobile data, connect to your wifi router, plug in the USB from your tablet to your phone, enable USB tethering on your phone.
This way your phone is acting like an access point for your tablet. I've used this method on old desktops that can't connect to wireless routers but it might also work when an Android tablet is receiving the signal.
Connect your phone to wifi, share your connection with your tablet via bluetooth.

Thank you all for the information
edit: I managed to do this with FoxFi on my phone and PDANET on the tablet over bluetooth.... Thank you all
