Its not a flashable zip. You need to extract it before flashing. Flash as an image file in TWRP and select boot

^^^ yes, and/or try using flashify or rashr after unzipping

I have the traditional root using rooted boot and super SU in system. Is this boot.img pre rooted?

the boot.img does not control root. The only thing that would effect this for would maybe be the SR build as that hooks into the kernal. traditional dosent hook into the kernal. He is reverting to traditional soon.

If the boot partition isn't flashed as rooted you will bootloop if superSU is installed. When I first took OTA I had to flash a rooted boot.img to get root without bootlooping. I can remember off hand who created the image, but this is why I ask.

Did you wipe dalvik/cache?if it truly didn't work on the xt1572 either WiFi or RIL would be broken.

yes, wiped cache and dalvik but no luck, wifi and ril seems to be broken but i don't know for certain because phone was unusable

[LOLLIPOP][18/11/14] Phantom Kernel r2

I have been working on grouper recently and I felt that there was a certain lack of a stock based kernel with only useful stuff and not custom features. There might be some users like me who haven't been able to customize their tablets much because of schedule and lego kernel hasn't been updated much recently. So I have made a kernel for Lollipop with only required stuff.
Some points to note(they can't be called features)-
Compiled using latest Linraro 4.9 optimized for Cortex A9
Kexec support
All-F2FS support
GPU overclock(franco's method)
Optimized ARM RWSEM algorithm
Entropy tweaks
Agnostic kernel flasher
SuperSU compatible
Download- http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=6701#downloads for boot.img
and http://d-h.st/2bYP for agnostic kernel flasher zip
Note- boot.img is only for All-F2FS partition users while zip can be used for all partition types(ext4, data-F2FS, all-F2FS).

**wow, just installed latest Lollipop image (LRX21P) after converting to ALL-F2FS and it boots just fine!...
Im impressed with Lollipop setup!
Awesome, I'm gonna give this a try!
For GPU overclock is it set higher already or do I need an external app or additional files to affect it?
Sweet, now all i need is some advanced power button options and my tablet is set :3

What steps did you follow? I tried the same and got stuck at boot.
Which root way did you follow? Chainfire or permissive?
I am running rooted factory image on ext4. I flashed the zip, got positive feedback of the boot.img installing, rebooted, saw one app optimizing on boot. But when I go to settings.device the kernel still reports the stock name and in trickster I see the same with no evidence of any new gpu customizability. Thanks.

I am also wondering, how did you convert a Lollipop ROM to All-F2FS? With the 'Convert To F2FS' App from the Play Store? Does it work with 5.0?
Or is all i need flashing a Lollipop ROM on my F2FS device and then this kernel and it will boot?
also can i use this kernel on tilapia? I know i can't use grouper ROMs but never bothered with Kernels until now.

Actually if you flash a grouper version of twrp you can use grouper ROMs on a tilapia. You just lose 3g.

I haven't tried other LP ROMs so I don't really know the difference. But i have already mentioned what has been added over stock AOSP.
I'll add kernel info, bugs, and screenshots later on along with BETA 2. And what do you mean by 'special flavour'?
Thanks for the suggestions!

Honestly i am planning to add a lot of features from KK. But forward porting is being a pain bcoz not only is code change drastic but some of the paths to certain files have also changed. Hence a simple cherry pick is not going to work for deep system level mods. Hence it's taking a lot of time.
ATM i'm working on bringing a network mode toggle to the QS and a vibrate when the other person picks up your call.

What TWRP version? What steps did you take to flash the kernel? I didn't get a android is updating boot up on BrokenOS. You need ADB installed. XDA has several tutorials on setting adb up. TWRP 2633
1st flash: On established Temasek - Wipe Caches, then flash.
2nd: PAC - Fresh ROM install, reboot into recovery, flash (no wiping).
3rd: PAC - Flashed again, Fix Permissions.
4th: Complete wipe, install Temasek, install GAPPs, install kernel. With this method, I got to a lock screen but rebooted shortly after.
I just broke my computer tonight (PSU or GPU...I overclocked the heck out of the poor thing...it was only a matter of time before it died) literally MINUTES after finishing the main quest line of Skyrim after hundreds of hours of goofing around ;-p
If I get my computer running, I'll try to get those for ya! Thanks again!

Try this on either temasek or PAC. Clean flash, wipe everything but internal and external storage, the ROM and gapps, don't fix permission, get the ROM set to your liking then use flashify to flash the zip don't wipe anything just flash the zip.

So, I wiped Cache + Dalvik, System, Data. Installed PAC + GAPPs, I rebooted, installed Flashify and flashed the kernel without wiping anything.
Once the tablet rebooted, it did the normal "Android is starting... Optimizing apps 1-80 something" at which point it reboots once it completes optimizing everything. It'll continue in this loop indefinitely.
Just for kicks, after 6 reboots, I then tried fixing permissions and wiping caches but to no avail. Hopefully someone with a working computer can help with the logcats!

Just to let you know, I've been running BrokenOS and it's amazing! It think I'd gonna be my daily driver for quite a while. Great ROM and kernel my good man!

Any chance for F2FS support?
V2 works with 1568 update as well, if anyone's interested
I've flashed v2 on concept. I can't work out how to install the su binary. I've tried flashing supersu zip from chainfire. What's the proper way?
EDIT: nvm! I saw this review which said you download it first, then flash it in recovery. That works fine (I had tried adb sideload in recovery first, but it didn't work).
wifi gets broken with the latest update. phone boots and works nicely, the only thing is wifi is not working. Any chance you provide us with your kernel for 1581 update?

Add v3 SW version 1568
Please confirm if it works :good:
ill report soon.
I'm on stock 5.1.1 and wondered if I could usw this kernel to get recovery. After that I would use recovery mode to flash cyanogenmod 12.1. It would be much easier then downgrading, rooting and so on....

You can use without problems

[TWRP][lux] TWRP for Moto X Play

This is my version of TWRP built for the 2015 Moto X Play. It should work fine, but using it is a try at your own risk procedure. Your bootloader must be unlocked to use this recovery. Fastboot mode is used to flash or boot this recovery. To enter fastboot mode, turn off your device, hold PWR and VolDn for 3 seconds, then let go.
Differences between upstream TWRP and my fork:
My original green theme
No SuperSU
No TWRP app
No HTC Dumlock cruft
Updated pigz compressor (slightly faster and more tolerant of corruption)
To temporarily boot this recovery:
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
To permanently flash it:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
The download is up on the downloads tab.

Is this actually built for X Play? I know it sounds silly but there's no kernel source yet is there? Or do we not need that to build recovery?
Sent from my Vodafone Smart ultra 6 using Tapatalk
Yes it's build for X Play, based on G 2015 device tree. I'm using MSM8916 generic kernel from Motorola, modded by @squid2 (https://github.com/sultanqasim/android_kernel_motorola_msm8916)
Ahh that's great. Thanks for this my device should be delivered tomorrow so I'll be definitely using this.
We will still need kernel source for cm12 etc though surely?

TWRP working fine here on XT1562
I'm making a stock TWRP Backup + some partition dump
Next move will be starting playing with CM12.1

Yes i think we'll have to wait for kernel sources to get a working custom.
Already build one (SOKP) but cannot get it to boot (with stock kernel or msm8916 kernel)

i have a broken XT1562 without a nandroid or other backups...

Thanks for this Vache! However, just to let you know this is still showing as Moto G 2015 when plugged into my PC whilst in recovery - not sure if that's normal or not?

@vache
Try adding these to the defconfig: https://github.com/sultanqasim/andr..._twrp2/arch/arm/configs/ext_config/lux.config
EDIT: I made a dedicated defconfig that you can try for this recovery: https://github.com/sultanqasim/andr...p2/arch/arm/configs/msm8916-minilux_defconfig
Wow thanks for your great work. Soon, we'll be able to get custom kernel to go with the stock firmware. We will probably get better performance with a properly tuned CPU governor. I'd also love to see CM12 being ported but the Moto firmware is already really good. In fact, I'm not sure if I could live without the added feature like Moto Voice and Moto Assist.

@squid2 Did you used the lux_defconfig in ext_defconfig ?
Already tried with those addition, the phone boot but i have no RIL. (Stock ROM)
Ill post a new reco with this kernel.
EDIT : Published a new version, with the new kernel config, that fix brightness and vibration.

So flashing this restores functionality on a XT1562?
And another thing, if your TWRP version is working when I fastboot boot it, is it guaranteed that it'll work when I fastboot flash it? And another thing: Is there a possibility to backup stock recovery, just in case TWRP doesn't work properly? I tried booting your TWRP version and backing it up but that didn't work (duh.)
Best wishes

Stock Recovery is also available on my backup.
And yes, if TWRP is working while booting it, should work also fine when flashing it.
Be sure to use the latest version by @vache
Ok thx.
And another thing, I made a backup of my recovery partition via ls -al /dev/block/platform/7824900.sdhci/by-name
followed by
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p32 (the partition that had the name "recovery"assigned in the output of the first command)
and got a nice recovery.img written to my sdcard.
Now from my understanding, in case something goes wrong with TWRP i should be able to restore my stock recovery via fastboot flash recovery nameoftheimagethatidumped.img, is that correct?

Got it booting, my repack method was wrong. All seems to work fine now.
Now trying to build a custom ROM.
