[BOUNTY] Z3v D6708 - Bootloader Unlock - Xperia Z3v General

Sony XPERIA Z3v D6708
Intro
First, thanks to Pyres for the original Z3 root bounty thread, myself for the Z3v root bounty thread , and tuzonghua for the D6116 root bounty thread , our similarly mistreated sister device. As you all know, the root method created by zxz0O0 has long since granted us Verizon users root on our devices. But it's time we make a new bounty. The last hoorah for our poor little Z3v -- bootlader unlock.
Objective
With root achieved, the main objective of the bounty is to achieve bootloader unlock on the Z3v which, given the fact that Verizon has yet to release Lollipop OTA Verizon took this long to release 5.1.1, and will probably never release Marshmallow, would mean a great deal to us Z3v owners who want to run custom ROMs.
Claiming requirements - Bootloader
In order to claim this bounty, you will need to fulfill each and every one of this points (2 is optional but helpful):
1. Be the first person to create or find a method to unlock the bootloader on this device in any form;
2. BONUS Prove that the TA partition can also be backed up, and later restored with little issue, in order to maintain some Sony features that would be otherwise be lost if accidentally tampered with;
2. Give proof of point #1/#2 by posting an adequate quantity of screenshots to illustrate it, together with step by step instructions, in a fashion such that everyone can follow them and reproduce the exploit;
3. Wait for at least 10% of pledgers (fastest quorum achieved between per capita and per pecunia criteria*) to give confirmation about the method functionality;
4. Claim your bounty via PM from pledgers.
*i.e. the fastest between 10% of the number of people and 10% of the amount of money pledged as bounty.
Payment will be processed between each member and the bounty collector via PM on an individual basis.
List of Pledges
1. er1c1996 - $20.00
2. MGSBigBoss - $40.00
3. glasslung - $20.00
4. RoyalDrew - $20.00
5. ktnemec - $10.00
6. AddictedToGlass - $20.00
Total Pledge: $130.00
Rules of this bounty thread
- Please note before making a post in the thread please refer to the below list to see if your post will be acceptable. If it is not part of this list, your post will be reported and you may risk getting an infraction as per forum moderators.
- Please note you may not make any specific restrictions or requirements that aren't listed in the OP. By making a post with your contribution price you are agreeing to paying out based on all terms listed in OP only and nowhere else.
- Please be advised that if Sony is to release an official method of rooting without unlocking the bootloader or restoring TA partitions lost by officially unlocking the bootloader (extremely unlikely but must be accounted for) prior to any member of XDA's submission, this bounty automatically becomes invalidated.
- Please do not PM a pledge, for it will not be counted.
List of Acceptable Posts:
- New bounty submission or increase of current bounty;
- Questions or assistance in development of recovery or bootloader unlock method;
- Questions and answers regarding bootloaders on this device;
- Questions and answers regarding the nature of lockdown on this device;
- Questions and answers regarding kernel and bootloader-related exploits;
- Any kind of updates about unfinished or still work-in-progress methods that would at the moment of posting be unfit for fulfilling the bounty;
- Bounty's fulfillment.

I will start the bounty with $20.00.

I'll add $40

I will add $20

An update for those of you who are interested, there is a currently unknown but apparently reputable source who has achieved a bootloader unlock (on a single device in a very specific case.) This user is working with GigaSPX but I will at this time not disclose any other details (I'll leave it ot him if he wants to say anything else about it.) Stay tuned, this is going to get real interesting soon enough...

I was reading about rooting a philips i think or panasonic android tablet . Someone mentioned that their bl is locked on it, and someone else said they had gone into some file with adb i think and unlocked thier bootloader manualy in adb. Has anyone tried anythig similar with the z3v. Im sorry for the lack of details , i will have to look that up again and see if i can get more info to explain it better. And also im sorry if this responce is not right for this bounty thread.

Ok, what i meant was. Has anyone used adb, and fastboot. They did that on some forum i was readig in and then typed command in fastboot "fastboot oem unlock". Then went bback a menu or so and there was an unlock button at that point that they hit and it unlocked .Im pretty sure this has been tried, but wanted to mention it to make sure it wasnt an option with our z3v.

That is the standard way to unlock the bootloader and the way to officially unlock devices that have it allowed. However, some xperia devices and all Z3v have this blocked. The point of this thread is to find an unofficial way to unlock and bypass the official block on this.

Oh, ok. I didn't know that was the normal way it was done. I had just read about it and thought u guys would kno about it but maybe not so i wanted to make sure.

I think I'd pitch a few bucks in if we can get interest again. This thing would be just about perfect with custom roms. Making do with Root and Xposed for now.
Maybe a big $100 bounty if someone throws something together in a month from now.

This phone could only go so far with how things are going. I'm almost making my days with his phone numbered because of how much appeal the Galaxy S7 Edge is to me. D:
The only developers for this phone are either really busy or this is just too tough to crack without getting real help from expert developers from XDA.

so this is now Impossible due to the kernel in 5.1.1 the kernel was set to debug in 5.0.2 and now they added some extra crap to 5.1.1 so even if u revert u still have that addition to your kernel and zachpope and i have upgraded so there's no way to test it and we couldn't have it, so what would be the point. I'm assuming most of you have upgraded to 5.1.1 also. It was a lot of work anyway and we flashed z3 ROMs they didn't work it would have been nice to try a z2 ROM before we lost this as it may have worked.

Well holy crap. That's already pushed my desire to get the S7 Edge now. Verizon really hates us Z3v buyers.

you might want to wait a few months for development and root. And yes Verizon hates us although this could have been the same with the z3, it just took 10 months longer to get 5.1.1 I'm not sure. The only phone this bootloader thing could be useful for to my knowledge would be the guys stuck on 5.0.2 with T-Mobile if they are still stuck on 5.0.2. And again it was a lot of work and kinda useless for our z3v =z2/z3 hybrid.

Wait for development of the S7/Edge? Yeah that's understandable, and to this day, I have no idea what this "KNOX" thing is for Samsung.
Our phones are great, but it's already outdated by new and newer things.

yea development for the s7. Knox is a Samsung pay thing I believe. Giga I would seriously consider not buying a Verizon branded phone if I was you. Look at all the crap Verizon's put us through with the z3v. If I was you and I had to have an s7 I would sell my z3v for I duuno $175
And bye s7 outright if u do that and ur not under contract your line cost is $20 a month instead of 40 so either way your going to pay 500+ for the s7 when its all said and done. Its your choice if you want to risk it. What about the x-performance are you not interested in that.

Unlocked BL; Rooted; CM10.1 (AntonX) on P769 [8/19/13]

WOOO. After 3 days of playing around, I've got a fully rooted P769 running AntonX's CM10.1 with an unlocked bootloader. I got it 8/5/13 from Amazon for $150, and it's a freaking sweet phone for the price. I wanted a backup phone to play around with, and I couldn't have asked for a better device (well... debateable).
*As of 8/19/13, it's priced at $179 from Amazon versus $240 from T-Mobile.
Obviously, it goes without saying that this thread is completely unnecessary. This thread could be completely ignored by everyone else and I wouldn't mind, because it'll be my own one-stop shop for when I have to redo everything in the future.
I'm going to detail my process and experience, and link all the relevant files and images. I had to do the entire process with about 5 to 7 different XDA threads up and it got extremely annoying trying to maintain a semblance of order. I'll be linking to original threads/posts, but I fully intend on putting all the necessary information here in this post so people don't go thread hopping. Of course, credit will be given where credit is due, which is a lot of people.
Finally, it's nice to finally make an XDA post. This is my first! The community here is fantastic. Maybe someday down the road I'll fork a CM build or something, but for now I'm content.
DISCLAIMERS: I did not read all the XDA posts related to this device. Thus, I may have skipped over some super easy methods to doing things. This is just my own experience and interpretations of the posts I did read.
I am not the most experienced person when it comes to Android development. I'm just extremely organized and like clear and precise instructions. Because this post will be written from memory, I can't guarantee that there aren't any mistakes. I will, however, reinstall a stock ROM, unroot, etc, and do it all over again. I can't relock my bootloader, but I should still be able to test the whole 30 minute wait thing.
NOTE THAT I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO FOLLOW ANY INSTRUCTIONS WITHIN MY POST.
As I mentioned in the disclaimer, I may have missed out on some easier methods of rooting, recovery installing, etc. PLEASE provide different methods or links, simply so I can keep track of it and so other people who may be following my methods can live life easier.
Updates/Timeline:
8/19/13: Outlined the general process, went into specifics about the introduction/requirements and SIM unlock. Began discussing the bootloader.
8/8/13: As I am currently at work (taking a break), I won't be fully completing this post out until later this evening (EST) or weekend. I did, however, want to let it be known that I am available to help assist anyone that needs help via PM's or replies to this thread.

Introductions/Requirements
These instructions are for the T-Mobile P769 variant of the LG Optimus L9. If you are not rocking this device, thanks for browsing my post anyways. I wholeheartedly recommend it if you're looking for an entry-level Android device with greater capabilities than standard prepaid smartphones. My device came stock with V20D.
I did everything with a 4GB microSD card installed. This is necessary for when we move apk's, ROMs, zips, and backups.
Make a backup of your ROM. If you aren't using the device as your backup/play-around like I am, please, please, please make a backup (for those of you with rooted and CWM already). For me, I'm fine re-installing stock ROMs and going through the process of unbricking. If you're on the stock ROM, there might be some apps available to back up settings that you can restore later on (someone please suggest something good if you're familiar, I've always used recovery backups).
I use Windows 7 for everything. This may be an absolute requirement, I'll have to check the application compatibility.
There will be programs and files that you need. I will list and link out in the next update. For now, the bootloader has links to required files.
SIM Unlock
SIM unlocking should be the first thing that you do if you anticipate using non-T-Mobile services. SIM unlocking only works on T-Mobile ROMs, though my eBay code worked via a Wind ROM as well.
Obtaining your unlock code:
If you bought your device directly from a T-Mobile store (may need your receipt), then you are entitled to the SIM unlock code directly from T-Mobile. Call customer service and mention going abroad on a trip, etc. Or just demand it. Be nice.
If you purchased it from a store like Walmart, Amazon, or Radioshack, then you will need to purchase your unlock code elsewhere. Please note, there is no "official" seller of such codes. However, codes are determined using algorithms that depend on your device's IMEI, so plenty of people provide them via eBay, websites, etc.
I can CONFIRM that the seller via this link provides working SIM unlock codes. Please note that it is NOT an eBay listing, despite being on eBay. It uses a frame within the eBay posting that redirects you to purchase directly through PayPal. I received both instructions and the code within 24 hours, as advertised.
Using your unlock code
The easiest way to use the code is to pop a spare micro-SIM from another carrier into your phone. When you attempt to use the phone, it'll prompt for a code. Input the code and it will confirm success.
The alternative method for those without a spare SIM card is to pull up the SIM unlock menu. Dial 2945#*769# from the dialer, then select Network Unlock. Input the code and it will confirm success.
Bootloader Unlock
Please note, that there are some details that I am somewhat fuzzy on (the exact version of the V20B ROM that I used, for example). I will go into as much detail (and confirm/edit them when I/others try it again).
The main source of headaches when playing with this device. I'm going to provide a general background and introduction on the process and provide important links. There's a lot of detail to go into this section that I won't be able to fully finish this for a day or so. But I can start pointing people in the right direction.
To learn about the KDZ flashing process until I fully explain it, visit @cmahendra’s excellent post on it. Please thank him.
The process I originally followed to unlock the bootloader was from this post. Make sure you thank @pinoyto.
My instructions for this will actually combine the both the KDZ and the bootloader posts/instructions into one. In order to provide the simplest and clearest instructions, I will type up the process tomorrow night while performing it on my phone. Again, I don’t want to misdirect people and have them viewing multiple pages in order to perform the process. So if you’d like to get started immediately, by all means follow the original instructions that are excellent.
Appreciations
Some quick thank yous until I can properly finish this thread:
@cmahendra: For filling my eyes and mind with your words the past 3 days. I think I've read all your threads on this phone now.
@pinoyto: For your post from March. I'm pretty sure you helped me unlock my bootloader. I need to redo your guide on my phone to confirm it.
@carloswii5: For your video and files. Obviously, I went at this like a noob first.
@Lelus: For being a HUGE part of the thanking chain. And your touch screen fix.
@AntonX: For your build of CM10.1. For an unofficial experimental/nightly, this build is FAST and STABLE.
I'll probably keep throwing in names as I finish this thread.
This isn't a bad phone to have if one has taken the plunge and root/unlock bootloader, or don't install many apps. Things don't get bad until space runs out lol.

I'm in the process of restoring a stock ROM on it so I can carrier unlock the device and use my AT&T sim to test it. Unfortunately, until I get that wrapped up, I won't be able to comment on the battery life. It's been great so far, but the extent to which I'm using it is simply WiFi and the screen. I can say this though: I leave it on overnight uncharged, wifi on, with all my apps downloaded and syncing if necessary, and it drops about 5%. So idling for about 6-8 hours, those numbers aren't so bad.
Looking forward for your guide!
T-Mobile just tried to sell me this phone. I found your thread and went to Amazon. Thanks guy, you saved me 70 bucks and I'm sure the wife will love her new phone. I'm looking forward to your guide & for her to stop nagging about her old (first generation Samsung galaxy) phone (I'm sure there will be other things for her to move on to now.. lol).
Just so you know AntonX's CM10.1 doesn't have the space issue!! he found the solution so our phones see the sd card seamlessly as storage space on the phone and also with app2sd enabled so give it a try.
Very interested in your guide, hope you post it soon.

I'm looking forward to your instructions. I am fed up with all the bloody forums and threads and out-dated and contradictory information, not to mention the appalling English, which often makes things very ambiguous and difficult to understand.
My USA T-Mobile LG Optimus L9 P769 is rooted (I used the very simple LGpwn.apk method) and I have also installed the ClockWorkMod (CWM) using the L9RecoveryInstaller APK (v1.5.0). My bootloader is still locked, though, so I am limited with what I can do. I have already SIM-unlocked it (that was the first thing I did, since I travel internationally).
What I really bought the phone for was to use as a portable hotspot. I live in Australia where, like most of the world, wireless tethering is FREE and a simple matter of ticking the ON box. I have used my jailbroken iPhone 5 as a portable hotspot on my USA T-Mobile SIM card before and if worked fine. But this Optimus L9 just won't let me tether successfully. Any of the apps in the play store that successfully set up a mobile hotspot are useless, because I simply get redirected to T-Mobile's info page telling me I need to pay for tethering.
So I am hoping a new ROM might be faster and also help me get around my tethering issues.
Once again, I'm looking forward to your guide
Really sorry about the delay in getting the guide up. My girlfriend just left for a 10 month teaching trip in Macau, so I've been spending time with her and handling some other things.
I'll be working on the guide tomorrow night, I have some free time.
I think I'll be doing a couple different things. From browsing around on the newer posts, there have been a few newer methods with regards to rooting and installing CWM/recoveries. I'll list out the exact steps I took (which honestly consisted of slightly more manual methods). In any case, it seems like unlocking the bootloader is the most difficult part at the moment. I will definitely elaborate on that part.

Thanks for the quick reply! 10 months is a long time - I hope you get the chance to go and visit her in Macau/Hong Kong
Yeah, some of the older methods for gaining root access were pretty time consuming and dangerous. Using the method of installing LGpwn.apk was soooo simple - any novice could do it. Same with getting CWM v6.? installed. Main issue for me is he locked bootloader. I'm looking forward to reading about that Cheers :good:
Finally someone is compiling a complete guide on getting CM on a p769 :good:.
I love my phone from a hardware perspective but don't like the T-Mobile stock rom. I tried getting CM 10.1 (or really any custom rom) onto the phone, but most threads I have read either are incomplete, outdated, and/or simply wrong. I ended up settling with rooting the phone, but I still am dying to get CM 10.1 on the phone.
Can't wait to see your guide . Best of luck!

Thanks! I'm planning on a trip during the Christmas holidays and at the end of her trip. It'll be tough, but there's so many ways to keep in touch today that we can actually have some fun with it.
I managed to get started on the post. My real life tendencies to blab on and on are starting to show. Heh.
Started talking about the bootloader. It'll be easiest to detail/list/number the process when I sit down with my phone some night and do it. For the time being, I've linked the original instructions I followed so people can get an idea of what's to come.
@queboy89 you really have your hands full with this one. Please include all of the things that can go wrong while flashing with R&D Tool and how to correct them.

Click on your phone info.
Write down the last 3 digits if your build version.
If it is MJ7 enjoy your Samsung iphone or take the risk of Chinese infiltration with vroot.
If its anything else, type go to GOOGLE.COM and type in those 3 letters followed by the word "Root".
Good luck!
Doesn't get much simpler than that.. :sly:

Is it unlockable through the ROM/software here on XDA or any other reliable ROM/sofware?
Please can you guys list the instructions or a link that tells me A to Z what to do. Thanks!

You can't root using a reliable technique, and even if you root you can't install custom ROMs at the moment. Safestrap may eventually become possible.

The I545 is not simlocked, which means that you can run any carrier's SIM. There are SEVERAL threads here that explain what you need to do to run an I545 on T-Mobile. Unfortunately, the search function is broken yet again, but there is NO excuse for starting another thread on a topic that has been covered several times before.
I know, you can't tell, but this is a very frequently asked and answered question.

Nope i tried tmobile sim doesnt work
I love this website, but I still haven't used it once because I search through threads always find answers like this. Its truly amazing how the website owners have sections for different versions and different hardware. But constant trolling by veteran users is common.
This(android) is an open source project but that doesnt mean every one here knows what people are talking about. I get discouraged posts like the one above^^. I have been using android since it came out on G1 and still havent rooted any of my devices YET. This time I actually thought I would but you know what **** this.
Anyways last attempt? Can my device be RELIABLY(trusted) carrier unlocked so I can use it on Tmobile. Thanks.
Also is there a thread where I can lookup jargon/lingo/acronyms specific to this site/genre? Link please.

Perhaps you could post on one of the T-Mobile threads here and explain what "doesn't work" means, as they may be able to help you.
Non-Verizon SIMs work for me, but I'm not using a SIM from some other US carrier.

Also is there a thread where I can lookup jargon/lingo/acronyms specific to this site/genre? Link please.

That's the guide to use your phone on T-Mobile. It's on the first page of the general section lol.
By the way, the forums are seperated by device and carrier because that's how the software works, it's different per device and the carrier that device uses. This is a site for developers.

This(android) is an open source project but that doesnt mean every one here knows what people are talking about. I get discouraged posts like the one above^^. Sorry if you thinking this is "trolling by a veteran user".
First, you need to understand: the i545 is not SIM locked. Any SIM will work.
However, there's some question as to whether or not that SIM will allow other US carriers to work. Mine works with a SIM that gives me AT&T data. (It's from a European carrier.)
Here's how you can answer your question. First, look at the top of this window.
There's a box on the top reading "Search this forum".
I entered "tmobile" there, then got the following threads:

Sorry. Hit send too early..
Basic steps are to get a sim.
Then go and see if it picked ip the APN settings. If not you should be able to create a new APN and put in the values manually. Search on xda for the values
Finally. Theres a thread in xda that explains how to download a phone info app. Which will allow you to set the phone radio to LTE/GSM.
last thing you want to check is that you can do wifi, sms, mms, voice mail, etc.

A lot of people do make things for themselves, I run my own crappy builds all the time as I'm learning. Of course the more experienced developers release stable work for the public. Regardless, the purpose of the site isn't to release software for the "everyday android user".
It's about the journey not the end result.
I really can't explain the purpose of this site any better than this post by Kyphur:
"I think what a lot of people forget is that this is not a "make my phone neat & kewl" place.
As implied by the name this is technically a Developers forum/community.
Now what does that mean? Well first off it means that there is an expectation that if you are here then you want to customize your device but rather than just installing something that someone packaged you want to understand how it works and maybe even enhance it yourself.
When I first came here with a Blue Angel it was a different environment. PDA Phones were not embraced by the general public because of the expense and complexity (I paid over $400 for my BA). A $400 phone 4 years ago was expensive, today the Tilt is $300 after rebates but with inflation & the rise in the cost of other devices and the fact that there are other sources out there giving them away for $150 our neat bit of kit has become popular with mainstream users.
Now we have a flood of new users who are asking not "How can I do this myself" but more like "Give me the quick fix" without caring to understand the process. See if you read the threads then you get to experience the learning process, you see how the issues were investigated and confirmed. Then you get to watch the different attempts at resolution and learn why some failed while others worked. That is called Development.
The NooB backlash is coming from users who have walked in the development shoes and is directed mainly at those who don't care for the journey but just want the end result or destination.
As a Development Forum we are just as much (if not more) about the journey. I've read so many comments like "I don't have time to read all of the threads" or "I don't care how it works, just that it does". These very statements are contrary to the heart & soul of XDA-Devs and that is why the backlash is so strong.
Let me be very clear on this: IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE JOURNEY THEN YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
XDA-Devs is about developers & hackers helping each other and working together to get the most out of our devices by understanding them better than most.
XDA-Devs is not about helping everyone who wants a "Kewl bit of kit" make their phone better than the guy next to him.
Now do we go kicking users off who never contribute anything, NO. We tolerate it to an extent. Where the toleration ends is when these users start diluting the usefulness of the forum by repeating the same questions over and over again.
You ask us to understand your position. Well if you want to benefit from our experience and time then I think it is only fair that you understand our position."

I ddnt mean to be like rude or anything guys. So sorry for acting like that.
Now honestly i Google about android rooting/self installin the new version and XDA comes up all the time, so I've known about website long time ago and I see that there are like 100s of posts a minute mostly by total newbs. I'm newbie to android and XDA but like actually do wanna learn this stuff. Thats why I even asked if there are threads/links to where I can brush up beginner stuff so I then if I stll have any issues I can ask the question in a technical manner or even understand different threads that have already answered the question(s) that I have.
As for developer part you guys are programmers and hackers and its your hobby and its pretty cool you do this stuff on daily basis, but for me that is too far ahead.
Now I have another device unlocked NExus S i got from tmobile back in 2011, I wanna update it to latest OS KitKat. I will now look up XDA all over myself, let you know how it goes. Hopefully it will work out.
Thanks again.
EDIT: P.S. the first day i posted search wasnt working. Or maybe I ddnt search the right sections. I'll do XDA search through Google now

I didn't think you were being a rude, but I just thought I would share with you post that explains the purpose of XDA very well. It might seem harsh because it's out of context & was originally directed at some a$$hole.
We were all newbs here, I'm no programmer I just like learning code because I like learning how all of this stuff works. I'm glad you want to start learning to. All I did in the beginning was google search "rooting" and a bunch of write-ups & video's came up that taught me a lot.
I think this all falls under off topic this is really not the place for senior members to try b!+ch slap junior members, staying on topic is how this site operates

Verizon OTA 4.3 bootloader downgrade - MOBILETECHVIDEOS

Little story.....
I spent weeks and couple hundred dollars looking for a solution for the bootloader lock on my OTA 4.3 Verizon Note 2. i heard about the site called MobileTechVideos. I emailed and asked questions, Josh was very responsive and said they could do it. So i sent the phone to them....1 week later (today) I get a call from Josh saying all is well and I am downgraded successfully and it would ship out today. i can't say enough about MobileTechVideos, and their site is packed with info and videos. check them out!

I have spent a vast amount of research and hands on technical work on downgrading
From: VRUEMJ9 4.3
To: VRALJB 4.1.1
And it possible. The problem isn't downgrading the ROM, it's the bootloader, it consistently stays at a 4.3 Bootloader while the ROM is at 4.1.1. Your post looks more like a promotion/advertisement, therefore I ask you OneFast50, can MobileTechVideos:
1) Downgrade the bootloader
2) Unlock the bootloader
3) Load a custom recovery (CWM, Philz, TWRP).......
4) Furthermore installing a custom rom?
If Josh at MobileTechVideos can accomplish all this, then Josh and his peeps are gurus and I will happily send them my phone, tuck my tail between my legs, and hats off to them! Taking it a step further, this is what fellow techies really want: If we could please get a technical post by [email protected] here on XDA describing the process that him and his team used to perform the four requirements above. This would be the most beneficial post that the rest of the Note II SCH-I605 4.3 community could really appreciate. Awaiting a follow up OneFast50
Yes that's the service they offer and obviously they aren't going to post how to do it or they would lose business

We are the only source I am aware of for offering this downgrade. When you get your device back, it will arrive with stock 4.1.2 firmware, unlocked bootloader, root access and custom recovery. Everything you need for a custom rom flashing experience. 4.3 update got ya down? Get back your innocence by downgrading!
Technical aspects: This is NOT a DIY method as it involves removing and reprogramming the eMMC chip from the main board. Essentially, we are removing the eMMC, uploading and the old bootloader with a proprietary programmer and then reinstalling the chip. I have received permission from Adam Outler to give a more thorough post about this procedure. The service is also live and can be found on our store (just Google us).

I believe the z3x and Easy JTAG can do this, but that's only if you can solder direct ISP, breadboard, and then hope there's no shorts and you didn't damage any tracers. Go with MobileTechVideos. I've heard nothing but excellent things about you guys.

I would just like to CONFIRM with the first few posts that it can be done.
In addition to the above methods described:
1- Send It Away
2- eMMC
There are other ways as well. I have successfully downgraded the bootloader with a RIFF Box and weeks of communication with a friend in Turkey.
I am only posting this to let others know that there are other methods and that they shouldn't give up hope on someone unlocking it one day. I unfortunately cannot unlock the bootloader.
Any DEVS or Members that are actively working on unlocking the bootloader on a realistic level for the community (not for personal use or knowledge) can contact me through PM if they have any questions.
I will NOT be answering ANY questions in this thread. Sorry.

ur alive its been a long time but honestly why cant we just dd the old bootloader? this isnt qualcomm and none of the new 4.3 firmware is attached to bootloader. the s3 has ties with aboot and sbl1 aka if u flash new firmware on old bootloader u brick or if u flash old firmware on new bootloader u brick(s3) the note2 isnt like that we can use full 4.3 firmware on 4.1 and vice versa.. unless its somehow tied to the pbl.. which i really have no idea about.

would have been nice to continue the saga

I understand what your saying. First off, I have zero affiliation with either of those developers. I made that post purely for other moderators to understand that I come in peace. There is such a fine line to walk on these forums when you have some sort of a profitable organization. I always make sure I'm within the bounds of the XDA rules and guidelines so I made that post to help make sure the thread was not closed. gotcha thanks josh, i didnt mean the above post in a disrespectful way towards either of you guys. was just curious, re reading it it might of sounded a little hostile but it was more of how i guess i read the other post. thanks for clearing up any confusion and ya i know adam is a good guy i have talked to him quite a bit in the past. hopefully him and lee are working on something DIY although last time i talked with adam he said the device is old now and he doesnt want to work on it anymore.. i guess time will tell.. i have been reversing casual and going through the peices/comparing to stock files etc. to see how it was originally done more so for personal knowledge and to see if i can replicate it at all but i doubt i will be succesful lol.. all i have to say is it was really unique how it was originally done
thanks for being a fan, i am as well, i have sent you a cpl devices in the past. iirc was a old gtab 2 and the s4 when me7 first hit. you do great work and i have always reccomended you!
I'd imagine it's as simple as erasing/re-provisioning the RPMB and either bypassing write protection on the eMMC or change it via EXT_CSD registers.

Whatever he was working on (around the time of this post) is part of the reason he is gone now . If you don't know what I mean by that, then I don't know what to tell you.
I cannot do anything for you at this time. I just learned how to change my ring tone yesterday... You see what I mean...
PLEASE PM HIM!!!!
I send him all his PMs and he loves to hear from you guys.
I will try and post replies to his PMs every week. So of you have a question, go ahead and PM his account.
He should be back soon.... I hope.

How many different model phones are you gonna start a thread stating you can downgrade bootloader versions? You post with no information or proof. Then you say "that's all I'm gonna say about it" or you state its through JTAG or a riff box. Then you request that the thread gets closed.
Close this one too and move along.

Agreed. On S4 and older, there's only ONE way to legitimately downgrade. That's to do a MoviNAND format + reset so the rollback protection bytes are wiped from the RPMB. You must do this via Direct eMMC ISP. It certainly is possible via JTAG, but I HIGHLY doubt he had the resources or information to do so, unless it was stolen, in which case he's in jail for it.

Someone needs to go through all the modstring variants on towelroot for it but if the rom build was made after June 3rd it will never work.

Where would be the best section to post so a dev would see this? I'm sure we can get a bounty going.
First ask for a ZTE Zinger forum, ask on the new devices page there you post a request for a new device, I will also post a request for a new device, I really am surprised at how well the ZINGER works for how cheap it is, Target is having a black Friday sale for 9.99 on the phone, but it's locked to brightwater or some off mobile company. If we could get some devs to unlock it, it's a very good dual core 1.2 ghz and I bet it could be overclocked if we get it rooted, there is a funny screen you can get to by pressing up and power menu might be a,boot loader or exploit we can get in there, or the recovery is volume down and power. It has developers and sub debugging so with some help I bet we could see it rooted and unlocked
I just got one with a coupon for 8$... I got it unlocked by generating the code via IMEI... however I can't root this damn thing.
All the exploits I've tried fail. If anyone would like to try some remote rooting/dumping I can setup an ADB SSH server.
These devices are dual core and QUICK so it would be a waste not to have root. Even the stupid cheap Net10 LGL androids have root.
Thanks
How do we get some devs interested? We already have a bounty going in the other thread. I don't have any I'm not using, if I can find another for $10 I'd gladly send it to someone with the skill to try and root it.
" I just got one with a coupon for 8$... I got it unlocked by generating the code via IMEI... however I can't root this damn thing. "
How did you swing that deal?
I need root for this too Z667T
Just got this little phone and I like it. Very impressed, when was it released??
this is the only info I've found on any of the forums regarding rooting it.
Power + Vol UP = recovery <---it allows an adb sideload update process. Kinda neat.
Power + Vol Down = some sort of firmware thing??? Screen says "FTM"

How did you unlock "by generating the code via IMEI"?
I love this little phone but I don't think any dev wants to touch it.
It's sad because I remember owning the TMobile Comet (Huawei U8250?) and it came with Froyo and it was put on CM version of ICS.
Ah well.
At least it's stock Kitkat (give or take that stupid Amazon app.)

Why do you say that?
I don't know. I've been around the block a time or two, I've seen unexpected suprises with low-end devices getting a lot of support from the great devs out there. I've seen some high end devices not get touched ever, ie The LG Revolution.
Just a bad feeling I guess. Perhaps I'm jumping the gun because this phone is still so new.
IT seems it's always my luck that when I get a phone, something is always in the way....in this case I read that ZTE has tried something new and locked it down so tight as to make it difficult if not impossible to get past the bootloader (?) to get to the nitty gritty. No know methods work...I've tried them all (along with folks at other forums.)
Patience I must have now.
From what I've read from other owners is that the phone as it is is wonderful. Vanilla (almost) Kitkat...but root could give us the opportunity to get Xposed involved in improving it overall....not tot mention a shot at a CM build in the future.
As I posted here, our best bet in the short term until a real developer shows up is to get ahold of the at&t version of this phone which is physically identical but has Android 4.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gen...ndroid-gsm-t2936545/post57227556#post57227556
that at&t 4.3 version hopefully will be rootable and then the firmware can be backed up and then flashed to these phones
it would be downgrade from kitkat to jellybean until a new root method for kitkat is found but I would happily give up 4.4 for 4.3 temporarily to get real control over the phone
I'm just trying to find the at&t version for less than $50 somewhere, it doesn't appear to be sold in stores, only online at at&t and cricket (at&t owns cricket)
developer volunteering to help root, someone needs to step up asap:

I have one of this too. It isn't a quick. 1.2 Ghz is slow. I only have it as a back up. It's really a piece of **** phone. But for $40 with no contract it's worth it. I'll be messing with breaking the security tonight.
Please keep is updated.

[ROOT] Any Updates on Root?

I currently own the US model of this device. I've done some digging in the forums but I never really come up with very much. If anyone could help I'd be willing to try just about anything to get this phone rooted as long as there's a recovery option. I've read in other threads that the European model can be rooted but the US version has no such luck. If anyone has anymore information please post a reply I would love to get a discussion started. Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, yes your appear to be right. I haven't been able to find anything on this device as far as the U.S. version goes anyway. Apparently, the European version has already been rooted with Magisk and an unlocked bootloader. Although no one has said much of anything about this one. I hope there some development soon!!
A shame these dont yet have bootloader unlock etc.. Its a great phone with Awesome specs on it.
I picked up a Like NEw one for 200.00 (u.s. sprint) version. I use it on t-mobile.

Well it has according to the LG website. Didn't try it out yet.
https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0703
• LG V50S: LMG850EMW/LMG850EMWX for the European market
This is the LG G8X (check your device info).
We'll probably have to wait for Firehose to be released for LG Snapdragon 855 to have any hopes for unlocking on Non EU variants
No bootloader unlock available? Was checking developer settings and was able to turn on OEM unlock. Would really like to see some AOSP ROMs available for this phone.
I am very glad to be getting replies here. However, US models are still unrootable as far as I can tell its not listed for the US region but is listed for EU. So far no new updates. Please keep the conversation alive though!! Need a developer to start cracking down on this device please!
If anyone knows any developer's willing to work on this device I will quite literally give them payment to develop a working root method for this device. No joke. I'm not very sure how much power developers have over this device. But I would really love to find out.

You could probably start a Bounty thread like they did with the V50 and G8.

How would I go about doing this? Not all that familiar with Xda honestly. I rooted my old phone thanks to this site but I wouldn't know how to contact any developers on this subject.
A shame that this high end phone does not yet have root/rom. (in u.s.) You can pick these up fairly inexpensively (on ebay..as I did)
Hope LG is able to get bootloader unlocked one day or I may have to go back to Xiaomi / Oneplus
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Well considering this same device is rooted it would likely mean that eventually we will have something. It might take awhile however. The EU version is definitely rooted and even compatible with Magisk having an unlocked bootloader is fantastic. Especially in this time. However since our country is a bit more controlling when it comes to phone data we may not see one until this device is obsolete. Meaning that LG will have made their money on it and therefore feel safe releasing a bootloader unlock officially..
