Video playback - Remix OS for PC

I'm having trouble playing video, anything over 360p crashes. Is there a fix? Is this due to graphics drivers? Also can't seem to play two videos at once, an android limitation?

Nope. Its because the kernel does not support anything above 360p. Try using MX Player with its correct codecs.

mxplayer just crashes whenever i play something, bsplayer works however. Will they fix this problem soon do you think or will it need a big update?

Cant really say. They are however very fast in releasing updates, so hopefully they will patch it up.

You can try kodi x86 release. it can handle almost all file formats. (though i didnt try hd videos)

[Q] 720P

hi
i'm trying to run 720P movies on my device, and unfortunatly their not running smooth at all...
at first i had no sound, so i downloaded a codec pack. it helped and now i can hear but it's still very laggy.
I don't want to start d/ling every codec pack on the market until it'll run smooth...
anyone knows what's the proper codecs for this device?
thanks

What type of 720P video is it? Perhaps it's your SD card not reading fast enough. The Quallcomm SOC is capable of playing back 1080P videos with no issues, so I'm not sure why 720P video is choppy.
Are you playing back in Software or hardware mode? Have you tried moboplayer on it?
well
i was playing from the devices memory, not an external SD. so its not that.
i dont know what software/hardware modes are
but i tried V player and it works ok for now. thanks
720 and 1080 both record and play back beautifully for me.

Use your PC to Rip em and convert them to mp4, then copy the mp4's to your Jetstream. It's not the most straight forward thing so you may have to google whenever you get stuck.
This ought to get you started though... http://lifehacker.com/230349/rip-dvds-with-vlc

DL the MX Movie player app and then use SW decoding.
EDIT - recently installed vlc and when I select a movie it gives the option of playing with the native gallery movie player even though they don't show up when you open the gallery. Great picture and allowed for SRS AND 5.1 sound.
Mobo player does the job for me

[Q] 720p video playback?

Hi, I just tried to play a ripped copy of a 720p bluray video, and realized that this laggs pretty bad when trying to do this. I am currious if there would be a way to play 720p on these, I know archos can. I have tried several apps, all of them lagging, even tried overclocking. Google don't turn up much.
Maybe it's because your using a blueray video?
Use matroska format.

I have lags too! I've tried every player.
It seems hardware acceleration doesn't work on mkv files.

I actually am using an mp4 file but I think we have the same general problem.
If you are rooted, you can try editing /system/build.prop. Open it with text editor in root explorer and add "video.accelerate.hw=1" without quotes to it (make sure you back up the original file first!). That line is supposed to let the GPU render videos. Reboot your device, and see if video playback is any better. Also, there are many other build.prop tweaks that you can use found here:
http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/build-prop-modifications
and here:

I use MX Player, easy to see whether GPU acceleration is working in that program. It has a lot of other nice features too, recommended in general.
The Wifi-5 plays the 720p trailer files I've tried without lag. Sometimes a few home-made files may seem to lag, but this is more likely to be due to incompatibility/ non-standard compression codecs than a lack of power. It doesn't seem to have problems with high-profile files or high bitrates in general. This is under Froyo, by the way.

Which version of Killa Sample? Hopefully not the 1080p, that's obviously not supported. Even if it's a 720p version, it's way overkill.

Thanks for the tip, I tried it, then used Mx video player with hw rendering, but it still lags. My next mission is converting to 480p, witch is the actual resolution of this screen.
Two possibilities are either:
1) Resolution is too high or
2) Device can handle the resolution but not the H.264 profile used for the video

my 4.0 plays 720p and 1080p without lags, the formats I use are wmv avi and mp4. Maybe its audio coding my player can't play AC3

no AC3 audio is perfectly fine, its definitely the container. google Handbrake and DL it, its the greatest encoder I've ever used. Sure there is a slight learning curve but once you know how to use it your 720p videos will play flawlessly on your preferred video app (imo mx player is the best one out there)

MX Player on ICS leak question

Hi all,
I recently jumped the bandwagon and installed ICS leak on it. Tried Dagr8 Alpha 1 and 2. I also tried Collective. I really love those leaked roms (except maybe Alpha 2, so much lag in my case).
I need help with MX player. One of the biggest reason I bought the note was to watch a lot of my anime series when in the bus going to work/from work. I download animes in MKV format and the subtitles there are embedded. The anime I download are usually 1080p and 720p. I download this video size because sometimes I watch it on my computer too. So I just download it at large sizes so I can watch it anywhere with good quality.
Anyway, when I installed ICS and installed MX player, I'm having horrible out of sync with audio/video. It also gets worse when you watch the video longer. Sometimes out of sync takes a 4-second difference.
If I change from Hardware acceleration to Software, out of sync goes away but the playback is sooo laggy that you can't watch it too. ** Oh maybe not totally go away, as I just experienced right now (while typing this) that I had an out of sync issue even in software decoder. **
I never had any issue with GingerBread. All my anime video plays fine even in 1080p. I have not tried converting to Mp4 but I don't think it will make sense because it was working before with GB. I have a lot of anime and converting it would be a pain for me. Maybe there is a trick that I can do in ICS to fix this issue.
Are you guys also having out of sync issues with some videos in MX player? If not, please try playing videos in MKV with embedded subs and let me know.
I really want to stick with ICS. This is the only reason I'm going to go back to GB before I get to work on monday Please help, I really don't want to go back to GB anymore.
Thanks
bumping thread.
or maybe others can suggest a player that is like MX that uses hardware acceleration to play clips.
Mobo Player does not and I can't find any other player out there that uses HW accel for playback.
Thanks

Although I haven't watched any anime since I flashed ICS, my mx player has had no issues with any movies I've played. I'll download an anime movie and let you know.
Have you tried clearing the data/cache or even reinstalling?

Thanks. That would be awesome. I'm actually looking for a 1080p mkv movie video (even trailers will do) so I could just test it without subs. Surprisingly I can't find one .. lol.
If you are going to download, try mkv animes + embedded subs. I did other test with some other animes and noticed that not are all the same. Although all of anime have audio/video/subs sync issues but some of them only has .5 seconds lag. Some 2 seconds, extremes are 4 seconds. I would assume that whatever is causing this, is how the anime was encoded but when I play it with Gingerbread, not a single sync issue happens. So its either the ICS leak or MX Player.
Thanks again. Looking forward for your test results

Just downloaded ninja scroll episodes to test. The files are mkv with English subs. Everything seemed to be in perfect sync, but hard to tell on a subtitled video.
Just so you know, these are 65mb files so they're not of the highest quality but everything runs fine in terms of audio sync.

Thanks for the test. Yup, I failed to mention that if its 480p .. its fine. Whenever you raise the bar to 720p or 1080p videos then its a different story.
I still have few hours to test. Thanks for spending time and testing it

Ok so I downloaded ghost in the shell 2.0 and it's 720p mkv format. The mx player would not use hardware encoding to play it, but it played via "sw encoding (fast)".
I loaded up the subtitles and let it run. I skipped several places every 20 minutes or so to test. It played with no issues, audio and video were in sync with the subtitles.
You may want to try software encoding (fast) on your mkv files, maybe that'll work for you as well. You can adjust the encoder in the settings.

Ok I will try to do it. Maybe tomorrow since I already flashed back to GB. I only used software decode (not the fast one). But its weird that you don't have HW playback. hmmm. All my videos played in HW acceleration fine, of course except the audio/video sync.
Hmm ..
I actually found something interesting. MX player has issues with some subtitles with our leak ICS.
I tried Dice Player which also uses HW acceleration and I don't have any issue with the same video.
I also tried other ICS video players that use HW and there are no issues.
So, i think its just MX player.

[Q] HD movies on PRime

Hi
i have use mx player for a while on my tablet.
but since they removed the DTS audio codec i have switched to vplayer
but my issue on my prime is that when i play for instance an episode of game of thrones or breaking bad on 720p .mkv version it starts ok...
but after a minute... the audio decoder doens't work anymore and it seems like you can hear only the background noise...
i used to have the same problem with mx player, but there i had found an easy option make the audio normal again. I use to switch form hardware <--> software decoding. And then it would be ok.
the odd thing is that this doens't happen with HD movies...
But for the vplayer i haven't found a sollution. Is there anyone who had te same issue?
thanks
I had issues with MX player when trying to play 1080p .mkv files and the best solution i found was to download and use BSPlayer and go into settings and set it to use Hardware decoding (BSEngine).
Never had any issues and 1080p .mkv files play perfectly - even on power save mode

Third! It's what I use!
Tried different formats?
I've only had my TP for a short time and have only tried a couple of movies on it. Not knowing which format was best I chose to rip to MP4 format and it hasn't given me any trouble so far. Is there some advantage to .mkv?
mkv is more of a losless wrapper, better quality, no compression, much larger file than mp4
The thing with Diceplayer or most players doesn't render embedded subtitles. MX Player renders it fine though. So even thought I get artifacts on MX Player when playing 10bit MKV or 1080p MKV animes, I stick with it. Yes I messed with the settings on those other players.
Well I'm getting issues with Dice not wanting to open files with DTS audio. If I open the video through file manager and choose Dice, it'll play the video no problem but no audio. If I try to open inside Dice, it crashes. Vplayer works with audio, but drops frames even if I choose 'hardware acceleration' I'll try mx and see if that works.
EDIT:
Nope, MX won't play the audio either. It at least shows me that their is an audio track, and that the audio is DTS track, but it won't play it. Any suggestions besides transcoding the audio?
i believe it was when MX player got updated to 1.6 that they removed the DTS codec. If you never had problems before they removed the codec and prefer mx player just google MX player apk X.XX and find the version with the codec in it. I would tell you the website to go to, but it's a no no on XDA.

Hey thanks!! Downloaded 1.5a and bam! DTS playback is perfect! Thanks again!
FYI
Dice version 2.0.5 also has DTS intact. You can find it somewhere on google, and plays HD files better in my opinion.
The latest version of MX Player that still supports DTS audio is 1.6f, and for Dice Player it's 2.0.6.
I've heard these versions are incompatible with Jelly Bean, so it looks like we'll have to find a new solution once the update comes out. (likely switching to BS Player)
I've always been an advocate of Dice, and with the majority of my stuff in Xvid or more recently, mp4, all stashed on a server that was smb shared, it worked a treat.
However, I've never been able to get HD mkvs above 720p to play well, and even those had the occasional laggy or jerky moment. I always put that down to network speed, though.
However, I've just tried the latest BS Player and all I can say is wow. It has just played all of my 1080p stuff over the LAN without breaking a sweat.
I am jumping ship. Very recommended.

mkv lag

720p mkv that need software decoding lag (doesn't play in default player). Mx player seems to stop for few frames then jump forward and then play normally. In Vplayer video slows for a bit then seem to go faster then normal and then slower - repeat.
This is bad...

Are the videos on an external SD card? If its a slow card, this may cause your lag. Make sure you have a class 10 sd card for these high bit rate files.

Try VLC Media Player !!
I've found that default player is laggy for mkv movies at 1080p. I tried poweramp (which I think is one of the best players) and I couldn't get the video to show up.
Then, I tried the VLC beta app, and like on my desktop is the best player for mkv files. No lag at all on a 1080p movie. Btw on a 90 minutes movie battery only ~20%

Did , VLC vomited and stoped working after attempting to open.
But i did some digging and i learned that the issue is with 10 bit color coding. Hardware codec only works with 8 bit and so 10 bit needs to gets processed by software putting all load on cpu. Its easily confirmed by running 1080p 10bit that starts losing sound due to the load.
However 720p @10 doesn't lack much to be smooth so i think with oc it would go fine. But first i went searching for alternative to MX player.
Bs player got option to skip frames when behind and it smooths out video but audio goes out of sync after a while. After some more dead ends i found someone suggesting Archos player. And it works :victory: . I can't see any lag on my test sample anymore , another file also worked fine.
Guess im saved :]

EDIT: oops... you have already tried it...
Use bs player or the archos video player plus the free codec pack.
I found MX player struggled with some of the MKvs I had until I turned on hardware Decoding. Everything's been fine since then.
