Reverting OnePlus X to stock? - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I'm new to the whole Android modding thing...
I purchased a used OnePlus X today. It wasn't until I got home when I started playing around with it, and doing some research that it appears to be rooted with a TWRP custom recovery and a blu spark custom rom...
I'm not a power user/modder, so I really just want it to be completely stock as if I bought it brand new from OnePlus. Could someone please help me return it to the official stock rom that receives OTA updates and has the stock recovery?
I Googled and searched forums but wasn't able to get any clear answers. Help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24269982087013219
Reboot to recovery
Wipe dalvik system data and cache
Select download Rom and flash
Reboot system
TWRP may prompt to flash supersu, do not root
Done u would be able to get and install all future ota's

If you wipe data/factory reset , you wipe cache also. There is no need to wipe cache therefore no need to wipe dalvik neither. Most of the zips wipes /system. Cheers

Thanks a lot, guys. Once the rom is downloaded, should I mount it to internal or external memory to flash? Or does it not matter?

It doesn't really matter, but I'd recommend you put it on the internal storage.

Hey thanks a lot everyone! It really wasn't very hard

To install OTAs, you will have to flash Stock Recovery also, as TWRP will fail to install OTAs.
However, you can manually download and flash the updates using TWRP.

Vl stay on stock till official Cm arrives...
Till den blue spark kernel rocks?

Flashed TWRP and Rooted....

Hi Guys,
I've been flashing for a few years (Desire HD, Sensation XE, One X) and now I have a One X+
I've been treading water carefully and I've managed unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP and rooted the device (via TWRP)
I did all this the manual way as I'm skeptical of the all in one (I'm old fashioned like that)
However I have some questions:good:
1. Does having TWRP, the bootloader unlocked affect my ability to receive OWA updates? (I'm still running stock ROM)
2. All that's left now is to do a backup, get a ROM , copy the ROM over, go into recovery, flash the boot.img, wipe the phone then flash the new ROM?
Cheers guys
If you are old fashioned, then why do you go for TWRP not the CWM?
1. This should not affect the ability for the OTA, but I'm not 100% sure.
2. Yes, you do a backup, flash the boot.img, wipe the phone and flash the new rom. Or first you can wipe and install ROM, then reboot in to bootloader and flash boot.img. You can do both ways in TWRP, does not matter. But to not reboot in to rom before you flash both.

Why should he go for an untested, unreliable, unsupported and outdated recovery?
TWRP was again updated couple days ago, I strongly suggest to stick with the TWRP recovery.
I don't know... if he is as he call himself "old fashioned" - CMW if far older recovery, that TWRP. I don't know about the updates, may be there is nothing to update, so they stopped? And TWRP still has some bugs, so everyone waiting for updates. I don't know... all about old fashioned, that was my point.

I went with TWRP because it seems it's the more popular choice, I didn't vouch for the all in one tool kit because I like to do this the manual way.
Currently got a stock ROM, with ROOT + TWRP. I haven't flahsed yet due to the number of issues I see appearing on this forum with so called 'bricked' devices, there was never this many for the desire hd/sensation/One x.
I'm pretty sure the way to flash from this point would be
1. Download ROM and place it on the phone
2. Take a backup via recovery
3. Flash boot.img
4. Wipe phone
5. Install ROM
6 Reboot
Does this sound correct?
just remember NEVER wipe "internal storage" or "format data" within recovery

This is assuredly in direct relation with the majority of those cases.
People want to root and customize with a Swiss knife tool and I can assure you that something is wrong to do it with this tool. If you read all the so called "bricked my..." threads, they all were using this all in one tool, then something wen't wrong and they can't figure out what could be the cause simply because they haven't read, they don't know the basics of those procedures or they don't have any king of prerequisite installed in their computer. The tool is supposedly "doing all for them". Except debugging the procedure when everything goes bad.
It is so simple and rewarding to do all this -the old fashioned way- also if something suddenly goes bonk, it's so easy to know exactly where the procedure is failing.
----
As for your procedure it is all good, in Recovery when you have a backup of your actual ROM, in the Wipe menu select Factory Reset, then after select System. You're all good to flash your new ROM after that.
Don't forget to : fastboot erase cache after your boot.img flashing.
Have fun!

I've got to the point now where I've got CM10 on the phone (not installed) and I've got the boot.img in the same folder as the fastboot.
If memory servers me correctly:
I should boot into recovery
hit fastboot
flash the boot.img via command line
go into recovery
factory reset/wipe cache
install ROM
reboot
Apologies if I'm being very tentative, I'm just making sure. I have done a backup while in TWRP (If the flash goes wrong can I simply restore from recovery using that backup?)
I'm into two minds to do this, I miss installing custom ROM's but I don't want to ruin the phone. If only there was a video tutorial !!!!!
You should have all you need in this tutorial watch the last section of it.

Format /system is done in recovery mode under "mount and storage" then after that you can restore your nandroid if it is done with the same recovery you use now. If you're on PhilZ 6, it usually can restore also CWM 6 backups.

What does format system do? And please help me load sentinel rom. That's the one I was gonna do.
Okay now for the question... I was running stock 4.1.2 with siyah kernel 6.0 b5. Then I decided to install philz kernel, but ended up in bootloop. Then I tried flashing dorimanx but still in bootloop. All the while I wiped everything before flashing.
Now im stuck as I can boot into recovery via any kernel but ultimately phone is stuck.
What to do?
And can anyone give me steps to install sentinel rom from this stage?

Mate, sorry for waiting, I was out of home. We will get your ROM back as soon as the phone boots again.
Don't worry, it doesn't sound serious so far. We have recovery and download mode (so topic name "nothing works" isn't really correct)
Formatting /system wipes all data from the system partition (so your system will be gone then) and it is important to do before installing new ROMs (essencially important for KitKat). It can't do any harm. As you have tried to install other kernels and didn't work we should check first what did you try to flash so far and it didn't boot? Is that what you wrote all what you have tried?
Now let me know please which recovery do you have now and is it the same version like when you have created your nandroid backup? If the recovery is the same, I would indeed try to restore nandroid backup right after wiping /system. Before you wipe the system just let me know: can you use ADB? If yes, check do you have ADB connection in the recovery mode?

Hi! Internal memory usually shouldn't get wiped by formatting /system, as it is "storage", not part of the system. I would give a try, wipe all: data/factory reset, cache, dalvik cache (advanced) and format /system (mounts and storage). Then back to the main menu --> backup & restore --> restore from (internal or external memory where your nandroid is saved) and choose your backup. It should reboot normally then.

Cool, @AndroidReborn! Now you can install your old ROM again and restore nandroid. Keep that stock FW saved on your PC, so if your phone gets ever again soft-bricked, no problem to revive it again.
I am wondering how nobody here responsed your help prompt, we have in i9000 help threads always handfull people of experience and skills who are ready to help in need. And there are double amount of the SGS2 units sold around the world.... strange.

No idea. The people seem pretty 'busy'. Thanks for helping. Just one teeny tiny last question.. How do I install cm11 or any kitkat rom over this? Cwm is 6.0.4.5 so it's compatible...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
If you want to flash kitkat, the first thing you need to do is flash a kitkat compatible CWM (v6.0.4.7). If you try to flash KK with an 'older' CWM, you'll get 'installation aborted....error status 7' or something similar........
I'm currently running @infected_s KK build, and in the OP, you will find download links for the correct CWM, ROM and GApps files.......

Yes, mate, CWM 6.0.4.5 is capable of flashing KitKat.
It is usually always the same:
download your ROM zip and compatible Gapps
check in the phone (or PC) if the zips are corrupted through download (if they open after clicking them, they are fine)
move the zips to the folder you will flash it from (if you use PC to flash zips with ADB sideload, put them in the sdk/platform-tools folder)
make nandroid backup of your presently used ROM
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache (advanced)
format /system (under mount and storage)
flash ROM.zip
flash Gapps
reboot
It is in general always good to read in the development thread of the ROM you attend to flash in the opening post which Gapps are recommended, or if there is some unusual order of flashing (sometimes, developers recommend reboot system after flashing ROM, and after that going to recovery and flash Gapps zip.
Some KitKat ROMs struggle with root access by using Superuser, so SuperSU should be flashed. If SuperSU app from Play Store gives errors by updating binary, you should uninstall SuperSU app then, find in the Chainfire's thread the compatible UPDATE-SuperSu.zip (version for your phone), flash its zip in the recovery, install SuperSU app, update binary (either "normal" or "through CWM/TWRP")

Oxygen Update Failed...
Hi,
Greetings from Bangladesh. I have downloaded Oxygen 2.0.1 ROM and followed the steps of installation. But as soon as the installation starts, a notification "Installation Failed" shows. I am not sure if its related to something called "Stock Recovery" cause I don't find such thing in my phone. (sorry for being a novice).
I have also tried to update my phone via OTA. But it also failed.
Any sort of help would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

You don't need to be in MIUI too.
Can do it in any ROM. Specifically for custom ROMs it is.
Heres how to flash:
Wipe systen,data, cache and dalvik.
Flash the firmware.
Flash ROM and anything else you like to flash then reboot.

Wait. Have you flashed a ROM before?? And wiping system, data, dalvik and cache won't wipe internal storage. So keep the firmware in internal storage and keep a ROM too.
Only then wipe this things and go ahead.
Do not wipe internal storage.

No bungxsan don't do that. You are not supposed to flash it with miui recovery neither with mi flash tool.
You need to have twrp or any custom recovery.
And also you need to flash a ROM from Twrp after flashing this. If you don't know how that's done then please go checkout how to flash twrp and a cuatom ROM, only aftwr that flash this firmware.
Bdw if you are in stock ROM you might not have faced this problem.
I am saying again, if you don't know how to flash from a custom recovery then don't go ahead.

i'm in stock ROM deepjyoti30, but i face this problem. now, i'm going to install TWRP. wish i luck.
keep in touch and always watch me sir.

I am saying again, if you don't know how to flash from a custom recovery then don't go ahead.

i've installed twrp. and i flash that firmware you gave to me. but it stucked in mi logo when rebooting after flashed it.
so i install the stock ROM again. and yes. my problem isn't solved yet
@bungxsan Do the following steps.
1.Download a custom ROM and gapps and copy them in your internal storage.
2.Go to twrp, wipe data, dalvik, cache and system.
3.Install the firmware.
4.Install rom and gapps.
5.Reboot

so, do you have any recommendation for the ROM ? with less bugs in Redmi Note 3

bootloop issue

hi i tryed to convert my redmi note 4x to global when flashing with mi flash tool i did it without clean and after that firmware finish installing but got stuck in bootloop now i flashed twrp and tryed to flash custom rom but again bootloop when i check my storage it shows 9gb now when its actual is 32gb i think i disturbed partitions any solution available?
Are you able to boot into TWRP?? If not flash TWRP first using fastboot.
Once you have access to TWRP boot into it and perform a full wipe (System + Data + Cache + Dalvik + Internal Storage). Perform a format too after wipe to be on the safer side. Now copy a custom ROM or MIUI ROM to your Internal Storage or SD card through a computer. Once copied install your ROM.
If you flashed custom ROM flash Gapps after flashing ROM. Reboot.
If you flashed MIUI, flash lazyflasher after that(or phone will be stuck at MI logo). Reboot.
You can find download links for lazyflasher here on XDA or you can google it too.

@ArK96 is right but the only thing i suggest is to, flash miui and lazyflasher first so as to properly set up the initial firmware, and partitioning. After miui boots properly, you can do anything you want. :highfive:

Go here and download the Global Stable worldwide release version firmware.
Boot into twrp wipe and format everything. Also after that reflash TWRP again using fastboot.
Once reflashed boot into TWRP and again perform a full wipe and format, then install the downloaded firmware zip. After that reboot TWRP and try flashing MIUI.

Yes. Red wolf is more MIUI friendly, it is made with OTA survival in mind. But your issue is that the ROM is not getting flashed. You can try what I said above about TWRP reflash, if it doesn't work you can go ahead and try redwolf. REDWOLF is nothing but modded TWRP, base code is still TWRP.
