Speedify experiences - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not sure if people have heard of Speedify, but it's a service that bonds two or more networks together for better reliability or faster speeds. I use it all the time on my desktop to bond my home internet and tether my phone while gaming so i have am unbreakable connection (if one internet goes down or slows down, the next fastest takes over seemlessly).
Recently they released an android version that uses WiFi and cell data, but due to a bug in the Android 6.0 Adreno 4XX driver, the app crashes on my Nexus 6P. I do have a note 3 with cm12.1 that i was able to try it on, however.
I absolutely love the concept, seeing how i can be walking on campus, on a hangouts call and the switching between WiFi and cell networks ends the call. This would fix that, and many other issues i have (though for some reason they assume all my WiFi is unlimited, wish i could set WiFi to secondary connection, but i digress).
Unfortunately, from what i experienced on the note 3, Speedify for Android has a long way to go. While browsing the internet with Speedify connected, Speedify used twice as much battery as the screen. It absolutely drained my battery like nothing I've seen before. At one point Speedify crashed and when i went to open it again it just got stuck on the loading screen and would never start up again, even after a reboot, reinstall, etc.
I'd like to hear other's experiences with Speedify for Android as well. I love the idea and use it all the time on my desktop or laptop (granted there is a max speed of ~70-90 Mbps), and i really hope Qualcomm fixes the Adreno driver bug so i can try it on my Nexus 6P. I also hope that Speedify makes the app more battery friendly so it could be used full time (and also allow WiFi to be secondary / backup and have usage limits).

[Q] Why is this tablet's WIFI so poor?

I have this tablet, a samsung galaxy s4 and my girlfriend had an ipad 4.
Basically, compared to my s4 and the ipad 4, webpages all load slower, when i update apps via google play store, they update a lot slower than my s4 updates them, also i play clash of clans, no matter wyhere i am in the flat with my s4 or my girlfriends ipad i never loose a connection to the game, on my tablet i regularly loose connection with the clash of clans server and it will restart and i may loose the odd game because it lost connection half way through a battle etc..
This is all using the same wifi at the same distances etc..
I have turned off wifi optimisation as this made the wifi even worse on my tablet, even though the name suggests that it should make it better lol
Any ideas, or is this trablets wifi just not as good?
James
WiFi Optimization doesn't help with performance of it, it actually improved battery life, just like the description of it says right below the WiFi Optimization text lol
And, it works just like my mom's iPad 3. I can get sometimes even higher download speeds than a desktop connected to the same network.

not agree....
In My opinion, XTZ has a great wifi performance, im running 4.2.2 with no wifi tweaks of any kind... The wifi speed test and strenght quality signal are awesome, as good at home as linked in other wifi spots.
Here are the speed test results i have made right now during this post writing theyre both downloading and uploading, just have to say im quite satisfied with the xtz wifi performance indeed. No doubt that ipads software solution implementation are, as allways, more and better optimized in their products. Theres the choice ppl have to do when decide between macs or droids...

Venue 8 3840 issues + solution.

A lot of complaints of lag and freezing seem to be due to not enough random access memory. Shame that a nicely built tablet with great specs (Qi charging, 64-bit processor, vanilla Android) would be useless to many because of this issue.
I got one for $133 new from the Dell outlet with a sweet case for $15 both in red and gave it to Mom for Christmas, knowing that for her use it would be acceptable.
Here's what I found and how I've gotten the tablet to work great and have none of the issues.
1. Stick with the stock KK launcher. Forget Google Now or Nova as these use up too much memory.
2. The stock browser seems to work the best. Dolphin, Boat and others have been reported to be problem free too. Chrome is a no go.
3. Under Developer options shut off the animations as well as limit the background processes.
4. Disable anything you'll never use, and only install the apps needed.
5. Under "Google" account and "search" make sure Google Now is off.
These things may be self evident to some, but you will notice a night and day difference in the way this particular tablet operates if you stick to those things. At $130 it can't be beat.
Apologies for responding to my own post, just wanted to update, apparently Dell pushed out a OTA update recently that updated the kernel and the thing is much improved if not downright zippy now. Still would stick with my suggestions as I've noticed while Chrome may be somewhat usable it will still freeze.
Thanks for the tips. Despite the horrible reviews, I just ordered one from Amazon Warehouse for $75 Very Good condition. At that price, it is worth taking the plunge.
Use the stock browser keep off any RAM hogging apps and you'll like it. For $168 total I got a red one , the official red case and the dell wireless charger. Can't beat that price. It particularly excels as a movie watching device for travel. Good size and format, great battery life and storage with an optional SD card, and a 1080p screen. Seems to handle video playback really well too, stutter free.

We're taking it on the plane for movies in 3 weeks, so that'll be perfect. Have you tried rooting and Greenify app? That could further help keep the background processes in check. I have a 1st gen; wife will get the 2nd gen, but if I like it enough, I might get another one for myself.
No I haven't mainly because of the amount of bricks being reported. Too much headache and since its my mothers there's no point. Lol. You'll love it for watching movies I swear they look better than on my Nexus 9. Maybe that Intel video enhancer or whatever its got really works well. The speakers are loud and sound great too.

So I've had the tablet for a week now. The amount of bloatware pre-installed was insane. I was surprised since the 1st gen 3830 came with almost zero. After disabling all bloatware and all google apps, disabling animations, disable sync, disable backup & restore, it's running fairly well. Chrome browser is definitely not happening. Stock browser is good, but opening multiple tabs is still guaranteed to make the tablet lag.
All in all, this is a great tablet for someone who only does one thing at a time (No multiple browser tabs and switching back and forth between apps). 1920 x 1200 Screen is awesome, build quality fantastic, thin and fairly light, 802.11ac wireless, wireless charging, almost pure Android, and good enough battery life. This thing is perfect for my wife and was a steal at $75 from Amazon Warehouse. Got a $7 case from eBay and my wife is loving it. It's a big upgrade from her Nexus 7 2012.
That being said, I will not be picking another one up for myself unless we get a magic update that makes it as fast as my 3830. I like to multitask, so that's priority for me.
P.S. After all updates, I ran Antutu and the tab scored 33,000 vs 24,000 for my 3830. Sadly, real world experience doesn't reflect this.

Lol, my mother went from my hand me down N7(2012) to this and so far, with the way I've set it up, she likes it for her style of use. It really is a shame as if the darn thing had 3 (gasp!) gigs of Ram it would be a killer little tablet, the fact that you can pick them up so cheap is another huge plus.
Hi! CJ, I have a Dell Venue 8 3840, and for some reason I'm unaware of, it's WIFI, & BLUETOOTH, have completely being "lost", I.E. the icons, the Settings options etc.... Have " disappeared ".
I would be most grateful for your advice on it's recovery.
Thanks & regards,
Mahil.
Hmmm, never heard of that happening before. I could ask you a bunch of questions to see what may have caused it but instead my advice would be do a reset. Under settings/back up & reset/ factory reset. Back up whatever files you don't want to lose, the cloud works great for that, and then reset. See if that brings it back.
Venue 8 touch screen freezing issue
I had bought my tablet online. It was working well initially. Then suddenly from one day the screen started to freeze once it was not in use for minimum 7-8 seconds although the tab was not hanging, just the tablet touch screen was not responding to touch.
my dell venue 8 3840 has kitkat 4.4.4. WiFi Bluetooth is not working at all. when i press on in the WiFi option, it goes to on but color doesn't change, i mean it keeps grey and it doesn't scan any WiFi signals. nothing happens on the screen. its like frozen. add device and reset options on WiFi menu are also freeze. when i come out of WiFi menu, it automatically turns off. i have already reset my tab 2 3 times to check if the issue resolves but the prob persists. advanced options are working. when i go there, it says mac address and IP address unavailable. and these options are also freeze. am not getting a clue of what has happened and how to get it fixed. plz help.
Dell Venue 8 8340 slow fix
Hey guys,
I have found a solution for the extremely slow performance of the Dell Venue 8 8340. You must disable wi-fi optimization in settings --> wifi --> advanced. After disabling this feature, the tablet runs fairly smooth with no crashing or delays. This may be a temporary fix; however, it does seem to affect the tablets performance. Also, I did not have the time to check if this fix has been posted, sorry for the repeat if it has. Please update on whether or not this tweak works for others.
Setting 'Developer Options' -> 'Background Processes' to 'At most 2 Processes' seems to help with performance. Reboots and updates sometimes reset this to the default though.

Am I missing something here?

Hi all,
I got my Chromecast yesterday. Ordered over eBay US and got it in AU. I already had Chromecast V1. To me, both has the same performance. I do not see any difference. YouTube and Netflix loads the same way it used to load on my old Chromecast.
Do I miss anything?
Thanks in advance.
youtube and netflix migt be buildt in or really small, they loaded instantly on the old chromecast.
i use plex with my chromecast, and the loading times are alot better on the new one.
There isn't going to be any major difference for most users right now. I picked up a 2015 so that I can take advantage of 802.11AC on 5Ghz WiFi. My 2.4Ghz channel gets scrambled whenever someone uses our microwave, but 5Ghz is fine.
Beyond that you're not going to see major functional differences. Things will load a bit faster, but a lot of the time for loading a video has to do with your ISP connection. If your old Chromecast was already slow at buffering, and your new one doesn't show an increase, then you're probably maxing out your ISP connection (or your ISP is slowing down streaming services).
It isn't meant to be a massive upgrade. It is useful for people like myself who had issues with network distance or noise, but for people who already have a v1 Chromecast that is working fine, there isn't a big reason to upgrade.
Yet. Maybe with the increased CPU we'll see some apps that only work on the v2 or that add functionality when they find one, but I doubt you'll see much difference.

Wi-Fi performance

I've had the G8X since last November and am currently using it without the dual screen case. I've started using game streaming from my local Xbox to my phone which I clip to an Xbox controller. This feature has been in closed beta for a while but is now available to anyone who installs the Xbox Beta app from the Play Store. The xCloud streaming service has gotten most of the attention but I find the local streaming far more attractive. It doesn't have any limits on which games work and much lower latency. Unfortunately, the games stutter all the time on the G8X. I think I have definitely determined that the phone is the issue and am looking for advice on any possible solution. It seems ridiculous to replace a phone over this. Here are the details of my troubleshooting:
I am using 5ghz Wi-Fi near a Unifi UAP-AC-PRO access point. My phone connects at 866mbps. iperf throughput to a wired LAN device is fast. I had a streaming session on my phone while running a ping from my Desktop to my phone. The ping latency was 1-5ms most of the time. Anytime the game stream would hitch, I looked at the ping on my desktop and the issues corresponded to latency spikes ranging from 70-150ms. I immediately assumed issues with the Wi-Fi so I did spectrum scans and moved to different frequencies to no avail. I tweaked a few settings and sat directly underneath the access point. I noticed I can force a latency spike by opening the Wi-Fi settings which starts scanning for nearby APs. The normal latency spikes are a few minutes apart but I can repeatedly force them by opening this screen. This makes me suspect that they are caused by background scanning for Wi-Fi. I turned off Google location history and services that use Wi-Fi and the frequency of latency spikes decreased. In fact, after this change I noticed that they were exactly 5 minutes apart. I tried checking build.prop to see if there was a scan interval configured but without root I could not even read it.
The smoking gun is basically that I dusted off an old LG V40 and it's flawless. No issues with local game streaming at all and I have used it for probably 5 hours so far. I would like to get my G8X working if possible. It seems like a software or driver but for AP scanning to cause these kinds of latency spikes (if that is indeed the root cause).
I don't expect many people with this exact phone to have tried Xbox game streaming but with other similar services like Steam Link and even Stadia from the cloud I would hope that this symptom may have presented for others. Speaking of Steam Link I also gave that a whirl and it was garbage on the G8X but smooth on the V40.

I don't have another G8X to test but it feels like a software issue.

Total Trash Device

Trying to do WFH, and this device affects your productivity, and is root cause of all problems.
Chinese products should as always never be trusted or relied upon
I am trying to do USB tethering, and for no reason the device would just disconnect, just USB tethering is stopped for no reason.
Upon further usages, learned that this is due to large amount of data being consumed in short interval, so if you put something huge for download, or if your VPN access includes RDP, that also consumes large amount of data due to visuals, your USB tethering will make your cringe.
It's a brand new purchase, i'm using original cable, and I don't have this pathetic problem with my samsung phone and my 4G dongle on the same port. did not even unlock bootloader, or done any rooting.
While writing this post, my tethering was disconnected 3 times.
Next up.
If you dial *#*# 4636#*#*, and select your required bands as NR/LTE, you will never receive or be able to do phone calls, CALLS END PREMATURELY. This happens when using single sim or dual.
How are we even supposed to use 5G, if It cannot even do phone calls.
The phone also has some annoying apps and services that cannot be disabled or force stopped for even a single seconds, that includes game app, facebook service, and some oneplus apps. they keep consuming RAM and CPU in background
Already took 4 months to provide OOS 11, but the recent OOS10 update provided had old security patches.
When I bought the phone, I got some red club benefits, I had few options to choose from, like extended warranty, free 1 time screen replacement, buyback exchange if I want to upgrade to new phone release, and 50gb cloud data.
Now it's all gone, only because I thought waiting and well thought choice would be wise, but who knew there was hidden time limit on offers.
Btw I got red club membership with this however the device now wants me to buy one.
if you are planning to play games, let me tell you, you cannot charge and play the game simultaneously, the phone would heat up, and cause fps drops for no reason.
If you use official call recording it does proper recording, but loudly wants to make the announcement and it's not automatic, I have to use 3rd party apps, but the recording in them has quite low sound.
camera has quite poor low light results.
It's launcher app is quite annoying, when I switched to nova launcher, and set default launcher to nova, the oneplus launcher do keep popping up and wouldn't let me use nova.
The Expanded Screenshot feature has to be used twice for it to work properly and take long screenshots.
The phone's Type C port provides quite low speed with accessories, be it if you use type c pendrive, or USB Cable, or Type C to RJ-45 jack.
As I am tired of waiting for OOS11, I will go with root and linageOS, if I find hardware issues, I'm done with this phone.
I'm starting some cleaning on it. I choosed to keep stock rom but rooted with Magisk, because this kind of process conserve the stock boot.img and add the root module to it so it seems easier to get rid of any modifications in case you need it.
My project is actually to keep OOS, in an unbloated way, because I like the experience. I'm sure you can build some rom with another launcher set default, but if you go lineage, I would be really interested into reading your experience about it.
Feel free to check my thread in signature, actually looking like a memo, I will update it with every improvement I can find or if I finally switch to lineage.

since you mentioned "red club", i presume you are from india or using the vaiant that was manufactured in india.. if you visit the oneplus nord official forum, you will hear lots of build quality complaints from indian variants..
I can't really support any of these sentences (except the bloatware) about OP Nord. My device comes from Amazon Germany and is a real daily driver, everything works the way intended (although sometimes I'm being notified an error report had been generated, but no app crashes).
I am not playing resource intensive games to be honest, but charging and watching a movie / streaming works fine here, the wifi and BT radio do no sabotage themselves when using them simultaneously (wireless headset and download/streaming on the device), whereas this was normal with my ZTE axon 7 mini back then.
I rooted my phone and kept it as stock as well as @lol1nt3rn3t and deactivated all unwanted system apps. I also schedule a reboot each night around midnight until 6AM, which makes sure the RAM is not occupied by zombie processes or still allocated data by terminated apps
