Q & A
Q: Is this ROM official?
A: No it isn't but its compiled direct;y from CarbonROM's source. they must be waiting to fix all the bugs or something else. i am not aware of it. i just compiled the build. also i will close this thread once the official ROM's thread is made.
Q: Sim card not detecting?
A: it happened just once with me and toggling airplane mode fixed it for me. reboot after toggling airplane mode just to be sure. didn't face any issues after that.

@noname55804, first bug found: hardware keys won't work, even won't work with other kernel (installed ak kernel to test). Before you ask, I activated them in Navigation settings. Can anyone confirm this?

Installation Instructions:
1) Make sure you have root and TWRP custom recovery installed. Also make sure you're not on stock 4.4.4. If you're on stock, then follow these instructions(replace the CM12 ROM with the ROM download link given below to flash CarbonROM)(If you're following these instructions, then no need to follow steps 2,3,4 etc. as they all are the same)
CM11 zip: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/90775/cm-11-20141115-SNAPSHOT-M12-ghost.zip
2) Download CarbonROM zip and GApps zip of your choice(5.1.x only!)
3) Reboot to recovery and take a backup of your current ROM.
4) Flash CarbonROM zip and successively the GApps zip package.
5) Wipe cache/dalvik cache x2 times.
6) Reboot phone and voila! Carbon is ready to rock.
Instructions for xt1052 users:
If you're unable to flash the carbon rom zip due to an updater-script error, then follow these instructions(you can view the zip's contents on your phone or on your computer):
1) Open/view the zip package using WinZip, Root explorer or any other computer/phone zip software(open it, don't unzip it!)
2) Go to META-INF/com/google/android. You will see a file named 'updater-script'. Open it with notepad++(or any editor of your choice), and delete the starting lines, so the first line looks like this:
Code:
ifelse(is_mounted("/system"), unmount("/system"));
3) Save the file in the zip and then flash the ROM zip and GApps zip packages. It will flash properly this time.
4) Now reboot your phone and voila! Carbon is ready to rock!

Not included graphite flags as it was causing many errors and not proven to give great performance, instead harming the device!

Curious about this, I have always heard this was an awesome ROM but haven't seen it for the N6. I've been watching and have to say this seems to have popped up out of the clear blue - was not expecting Carbon, official or unofficial, anytime soon for this device. Anyway, I looked through github and saw OmniSwitch in there, but no mention of it in the features list. Does this first build have a working OmniSwitch by chance or did that not quite make its way in there? Everything else I could possibly want to know appears to be in the features list.

Nah, no omniswitch yet, will be added soon. Team Carbon are backporting all the features from previous releases, so it'll take some time.

Custom roms can only be installed with an unlocked boot loader, but you can still install using dual recovery as XZDR is for locked/unlocked
If you are worried about loosing DRM functions you can still use DRM functions with an unlocked device using a method on these forums.
Any bugs? Like the camera fish eye problem? Also, is it possible to patch drm keys here or will the camera performance deteriorate?

Carbon is based off CM, and uses CM Device trees and Kernels. Hence all CM Bugs are present over here. I guess, however, the Fisheye Bug will get fixed anytime soonish, actually exactly when Sony AOSP get's a working Cam, CM will most likely adapt the "proper" implementation which is supposed to be for shinano (Z2*/Z3*) devices, rather then using the rhine (Z1*) blobs, which are not supposed to get used with wideangle lenses as Z3* devices have.

Thanks a lot!
Excellent. Thanks.
Might finally be time to unlock the bootloader.
Why is the title "official " but the downloads are "unofficial "
Thanks

I am part of the CarbonROM Team, actually I am a Core Dev. However, I forgot to change the build version in these builds, which is why they use the default value "UNOFFICIAL". I'll change that on the next builds
Thanks, I'm looking forward to the instructions. Then i will try.
The drm and unlock bootloader aspect is unusual for me that's what i want to see explained.
I wonder is it possible for you to include the restore drm function fix into the rom?
first of all thanks OP for this, I've always loved CarbonROM
I may unlock BL again to try this :good:
a couple of questions in the meantime until I try that myself, if you don't mind for OP or any other who have already flashed this.
1. In OP I see "TWRP custom recovery", does this really mean this rom comes with TWRP (I hope) or it still contains CM recovery (that I hate) as all other custom roms here do?
2. can you confirm it is possible to assign actions to navbar buttons like show power menu, show volume panel and similar? (all the other roms I tried for z3c don't have this and it is a must for me to avoid using HW buttons )
3. to flash all other custom roms I tried, coming from stock, I couldn't use the Dual Recovery from NUT (latest version) as I kept getting binary errors. I had to flash fota-recovery and then from that TWRP I could. will I need to do the same now for carbon or someone tried and accomplished in flashing this with 2.8.15 dual recovery?
thanks again and in advance if you can help.. bye!
EDIT: I respond myself... just unlocked BL and flashed this
1. my god, also this one has only useless (for me) CM recovery will flash fota recovery twrp... :|
2. more flexible than others, still have to understand if I really can do what I need
3. twrp in dual recovery didn't work, but philz touch in dual recovery worked, so didn't have to flash fota-twrp recovery at the beginning to get this installed, but now I will to get a better recovery
....now testing it.... thanks again for your work!
@moly
I'm coming from your v6, could you outline the procedure for switching to this and back. Did you do the drm fix or didn't bother? I'm not sure it's that big a deal anyway.
@myself5
great to see more custom roms coming for z3c & even "official" :good:
i used to use carbon 4.4 on my old xperia go and was really happy
Best custom rom so far... so many options.. i'm not missing xposed+gravity box anymore with this.. loving it!
I think i'll stay some time with this! now will hunt for bugs and check about stability thanks OP!
Ps. only thing i don't like so far is the extra IME buttons in navbar, i much prefer having only the left and right arrows immediately available in keyboard without needing to click anything.. Do you know if that's possible?
Also, I think I'd really miss radio fm.. any chances to see it added later on?

(of course i've alrady backed up my TA time ago)
1. full backup in twrp
2. unlock bootloader (take care your internal sdcard will be erased..forgot that recently when trying others custom roms and lost some data... [emoji14] )
3. full wipe and flashed this from philz recovery (vol up at green light, twrp didn't work) + minimal gapps (90mb) i got here in the forum
4. reboot
didn't bother about drm keys, will try later eventually if i'll keep it for long...
take care at this point you'll have cm recovery only.. never got used to it so I installed Rashr and then through it i flashed fota-twrp2.8.5.0-z3c.img to get a working twrp recovery again
Hope this helps bye!
When I use poweramp with my headset at this rom I occured some problems. While the screen is off, sound has gone 3 5 seconds later after I woke up the device and again the sound of music could be heard

Are there any issues with Bluetooth disconnecting such as with smart watches?
Not sure. I don't have a smartwatch, but I do use YouTube to stream music every single time I drive anywhere with no issues

The problem with all the aosp roms I've tried is that I can listen to music perfectly with no Bluetooth issues but as far as once I stop and the only connection is the smart watch Bluetooth turns off and on. Doesn't matter if the watch is android or Tizen based. I'll try it and see what happens. Last question which I'm sure will be asked, are we able to record video with no issues? (Last aosp/lineage based roms had that issue.)

The only camera issues i've had are once in a blue moon, the picture will be fully green, and sometimes autofocus is weird. No recording issues that I can tell

I'm on ls9997/sprint. I was able to get sms and calls working by restoring my efs from my backup. I had to go through the setup first and then booted into recovery and restored efs only. That got it working
