Is Google Voice calling supported on honor 5X with EMUI? - Honor 5X Questions & Answers

To those of you who have already got a hand on the phone - Does it support Google Voice outgoing call interception (on Huawei's EMUI stock ROM)?
I use Google Voice so I want my outgoing calls to display my GV #. What I figured is that the Google Voice app will intercept the outgoing call intention and then dial a different number. Then the receiving party will see my GV # as the calling number. This works on almost all Android phones until I got a Huawei MediaPad X1. Huawei's EMUI broke GV's call interception: the phone will ignore Google Voice app's call interception request and just directly call out. Receiving party will see the cell phone number but not the GV #.
Is Honor 5X still the same way or not?
Thanks.

Good question, i would have just assumed that GV worked on it. But the fact it doesn't work on some Huawei devices makes me wonder.

Yes, it works just fine.

I can confirm it works on the US model

Thanks much to the confirmation!

Someone left a bad review on Amazon saying how they cant get wifi-calling working on their Honor 5x. I assume they are referring to Tmobile wifi-calling since AT&T only has that for IPhone users and this phone does not work for CDMA users.
Does anyone know of any AOSP roms with working Wifi-Calling yet? This webpage says its open source and is possible.

It is possible, but quite hard without the stock rom having wifi calling already

just gonna have to wait for marshmallow i heard it comes with wifi calling integrated into the os, and people have tested it on the nexus devices and it works just fine.

Can someone confirm if it works on any model other than L24 (US)? I have a Mate 8, and am trying to figure out if it doesn't work because of hardware or software

Google voice calling is not working for me on this phone (I have the L24). I get "call not sent" message and then it uses my mobile #

[Q] Google Voice on 2.1

Posting this to see if anyone else has this, and if any one knows how to make it work.
I use Google Voice for my international calls, but after the upgrade the dialer takes over, Google voice can not be used to "only make international calls"
i have to use "ask for every call" which is not the best solution.
[EDIT] that option does not work either
I'm having the exact same problem.
I even made several international phone calls, thinking that maybe Google Voice was running in the background... now I'll get hit with the charges for international calls from AT&T :s
Any solution to this problem?
I'm using the X10i 2.1 Global firmware on a X10a (AT&T)
hope this helps

Looks like as sony do not use default dialer it is going to be a problem

unfortunately the suggested process does not work
I found a way to make calls by google voice. I went to the browser, went to the google voice website, and from there, I placed the call. Then I received the phone call from my google number, and it connected me to the number I was calling.
It's more troublesome than just using the app, but it is a workaround.
Any other ideas or solutions?

When you do that, aren't you still using the GSM network and your sim card to have the call connected?
I am having identical problems (2.1 Nordic) and trying to use google voice over WiFi to avoid using network minutes but Sony's dialer takes over... hopefully sony or GV will update and fix this real soon... very frustrating

I use Google Voice for international calls... so I'm still using my GSM minutes, but just as a local call, not with international rates.
Have same problem. Cost me one expensive international phone call.
Generic FW, Build 2.0.A.0504 - X10i/ATT USA
GV screen comes up, then native dialer takes over. Have used workaround posted above, but naturally would just like to be able to use it as intended.
Just a heads up to anyone who has updated to 2.1.
I have the Rogers 2.1 and using AT&T as the carrier. GV does not work for ANY of my outgoing phone calls even when I specify to use GV only.
If the issue is SE's dialer, is there a way to revert back to the generic dialer?
Thanks
I'm also having this issue, only after recently upgrading my X10 to the generic 2.1 software. I wonder if anyone has found a solution yet?
I've had this problem since day 1, since I'm from Canada and use my GV to call my american / long distance friends. I have had to use the website workaround since day one, and it really bugs me. When I was working from the iPhone app, it worked properly (call me, then call the number I'm trying to call). Since switching to my X10a, I can't have it just call me, it uses the dialer directly.
So, I use up about 100-200k of my data plan to make the call. Not a big deal, just kind of annoying.

Receiving GrooveIP calls with Sprint/Google Voice

Hello all. I'm trying to receive calls using my Tab and GrooveIP. I am currently using same Sprint number as my GV number. Is this why I cannot receive calls on Tab? I can make calls just fine.
Thanks.
That shouldn't be a problem, since the Sprint number just replaces your GV number. I'd check all of your forwarding settings in GV to make sure that the Google Chat is set as one of your forwarding phones (make sure that the checkbox is checked next to it in your Voice Settings > Phones tab, and that you don't have any time restrictions for the forwarding by clicking Edit). Similarly, check to make sure that you don't have any special rules on the specific contact or contact group that you are trying to initiate the call from.
I haven't messed with GrooveIP on the tab, but that'd be a good place to start if you haven't verified that already.

Yea, I have forward to Google chat and sprint mobile phone both checked, but still not receiving calls on tab. I even tried unchecking sprint phone and only having Google chat selected, still no dice.
Make sure you are not logged into google chat anywhere else.

Just to clarify -- you need to be signed out of Talk on the Galaxy Tab for calls to forward to Groove.

Thank you, worked like a charm!
Ironically, the new GrooveIP update that was released yesterday allows being logged into Google Voice and still accept calls.
This info worked wonders for me. Tested it out today and works perfectly.

Nope. I did it with no problem. Kept unlimited. I've had it ever since the update came out on root.
Never got to use it as I don't know anyone with a phone that's VoLTE capable. :good:
No issues here. It is just a free feature that needs to be activated on VZW website.

Nope. Enabled and disabled it probably 10 times now via their webpage due to VoLTE not working with Google Voice. Still have unlimited data, but dropped this service because it still doesn't work properly with Google Voice.
How is it failing with Google voice?

Some bug in the VoLTE system. It doesn't seem to affect everyone. But on a lot of people's accounts (even different phones) the call forwarding is somehow messed up and just goes to a busy signal with VoLTE instead of Google Voice. I didn't notice for several weeks until someone told me my voicemail wasn't working.
Before someone chimes in and says enabling VoLTE resets call forwarding, I know and it still doesn't' work for many of us. Verizon doesn't care since they offer a paid version of visual voicemail and offer little help.
Call forwarding to Google voice is working fine for some and not others. It works fine for me. I believe I read somebody disabled call forwarding and reenabled it and it started working for them

And I've already done that 15 times too. It just doesn't work.

Does anyone have the Oppo Find X on Verizon?

I'm only going to be able to get it if it works on Verizon since I'm in a combined plan with my family in the US. If it is possible what version of the phone would it be, from research I've seen some sites saying it works and others saying it doesn't. It seems that the Chinese version for sure doesn't, but I hope others will, thanks!
I'm using the Chinese model on Verizon right now. Voice call won't work, but you can use it with data. Once the SIM is insert, wait for about 5-10 min, it will pick up Verizon signal. After that you will have to go into *#*=4636#*#* and set it to CDMA/LTE or LTE only for it to work with data. I'm using it with Google "hang out and hang out dialer" to make voip call (works flawlessly, the sound is just like regular phone call). Make sure to set hang out to always running in the back ground and LOCK it in the recent running app. and of course, all notification on.
Good luck!

So can I use my Verizon number as my google hangouts/dialer number? Does everyone I know have to switch to google hangouts over texting? Do I have to give everyone I know a new phone number that is google hangouts/dialer? Do texts go to google hangouts and you can respond to them there (the people don't have google hangouts)?
EDIT: Yes, No, No, Yes

You can have your Verizon number forward to hang out number and everyone can call you on that. They don't have to switch, texting with hang out is like normal. You can give your hang out phone number only for texting, because you cannot forward text message. In short, it is not a seamless transition. If you do not want to use 2 separate numbers, the only way is to give everyone the new hangout number for both call and text

This is all true; however, you can port your Verizon number to Google voice (including google messenger and dialer) for a one time $20 fee; a.k.a keep your number but use google instead of Verizon.

LTE version. Making and receiving voice calls.

My Tab S6 LTE (T867) does not have Samsung phone app. But has messages app and it receives SMS. I tried to load the latest Samsung phone app from apkmirror but it failed.
On its box there is a writing "LTE Data Only".
How can I receive and make voice calls with my tablet?

Same device here. We need to flash SM-T865 TWRP ROM to our devices but as for now, there is none
Mine is SM-T865 i can make calls sms and LTE data fine, yours will not work even if you flash SM-T865 TWRP Rom as There's no IMEI assigned to the SIM slot.

After Android 10 update, an option (Call and text on other devices) has appeared under the Advanced features. I have linked the tablet with my S10+ and now I can make and receive calls and messages on my tablet.

Not for me. I have this feature since Android 10 update. That's why I have started this thread about 3 months ago.
What region are you located in?
SM-T865 can be used as a normal smart phone. Doesn't need any extra features.
The feature sms/calls on other devices requires Samsung account and a Samsung phone. It will work on devices without a SIM card or with a SIM just for data when it's connected through Samsung account with a Samsung mobile phone. It's quite that simple
