Surface 3 (Non Pro) Issues - Remix OS for PC

Hi, after following the instructions from the remix website and downloading the efi version not the legacy version, and trying multiple options mentioned throughout the google group for remixOS I can't seem to get it to boot, it gets to "detecting android x86... found on /dev/mmdsomething (i've put it onto a 32gb fat32 partition on the hard drive) then goes blank but using the same files and putting them onto my 32gb microsd card (formatted as fat with GPT as per the instructions here: http://androidnews.co.in/2016/01/16/how-to-install-remix-os-on-mac-resident-mode-working/) i can get it to boot to guest mode on my mac (resident mode just hangs at the remixes splash screen)
how can i get it to boot onto my surface 3 and how can i get resident mode to work?

Resident mode hangs on usb drives with less than 30 MB/s of read and write speed. I have noticed that speed of atleast 45-50MB/s is needed for it to work in resident mode. If you have it, then it will work, else not so much.

thanks i released that after putting remix onto my internal hdd on my mac, but i still can't get it to load on my surface 3

i can't get this to work on my surface 3 either. i have a fast usb3 stick, but encounter the same blank screen.

I installed RemixOS on my hard drive (Surface 3 Not Pro) using steps in https://www.reddit.com/r/RemixOS/comments/409w1o/remixos_efi_install_assumes_you_already_have/
and enabled following kernel boot parameters...
debug ignore_loglevel earlyprintk=efi,keep xforcevesa nomodeset
It reboots after these messages:
Detecting Android-x86... found at /dev/mmcblk0p#
.
.
.
Followed by long list of messages for a minute or so
.
.
.
Detecting Android-x86... found at /dev/mmcblk0p#
[##.######]sysrq: SysRq : Emergency Remount R/O
[##.######]blk_update_request: I/O error, dev loop0, sector ######
[##.######]init: cannot execute ('/system/bin/app_process64'): I/O error
At one stage (dont remember the kernel parameters) I got the RemixOS boot logo with a blinking cursor... and nothing happened after that... got stuck there and had to hard reboot.

RemixOS boots up but no touch screen support. Screen sometimes flickering. Not really usable at this moment
Used below kernel parameters to boot both resident/guest mode
DEBUG=2 nomodeset vga=781 (removed quite)
Whats working...
Wifi
Bluetooth
Not Working...
Touchscreen
Keyboard
Others..

Has anybody got this to work????

its working now thanks to the beta release but sound, and the touch screen doesn't work the touch cover works fine though

Not yet. We Will need somebody to patch a kernel for remix based off 4.8 Linux kernel for it to have touch support for our device. Or wait till Jide merges the 4.8 kernel source into remix ...
Wish it would happen soon !

Hello to everyone! I had the same problem and Linux Kernel 4.8 has Surface 3 drivers, so we have to wait until Remix OS will use this Kernel. Please, join to Telegram Surface 3 group:
https://telegram.me/joinchat/BS7SRQgsd-PlNGDWsYrKlQ

any news? how well does remix os work on surface 3 non pro?

Has anyone had any luck getting the touchscreen to work on the Surface 3 with Remix OS 3.0 yet? Also that telegram link is expired

Perhaps my post can help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix/remix-os/how-to-install-remix-os-virtualbox-to-t3301160 :
You need to format the empty virtual disk with an ext4 and a swap partition in advance. This can be done by installing Ubuntu and stopping the installation after the 2 partitions have been created.
The second thing you need is a modified iso file which lets you start a "real" Remix OX installation.
working. kind of
I started by taking two hard disks. both 16 gb. THen, a fresh windows 10 home single language install from the microsoft website went on the first. they have an easy media creator.. and no, you won't need a key. (you only need windows for a second.)
. I added the second drive as drive D: within windows.
then i downloaded and followed the remix os instructions and ran the installer for the hard drive d:.
it took a long time first boot. i gave it 2 cores and 2.5Gb ram. if you can afford more.. do it. it took about 1.5 hours. mostly due to remix os initializing he disk.. and even though it had 16gb of space, looks like i provisioned 6Gb... wierd. but the os is light. snappy. it has a terminal with bash...
seems pretty beta like.. don't click on widgets.. the init will reset and all of your apps will close.
i still have not gotten play services on yet. i just downloaded the latest apk from the blog on the main JIVE website under FAQ.
installed... working.. connected, semi stable and useable. now to get play services started.
Very slow here
Machine settings

I have installed the 32 bits version,I get it in they site, but it's slow, is like it is rendering frame per frame, I think is because GPU or something, I tried differents resolutions with vga=ask boot command, but nothing change. Otherwise I have downloaded a VDMK disk with Remix OS installed, and that running perfectly, but I can't use superuser on it.
I'm from Brazil, Sorry for any error on english

When you boot up press "e" to edit the boot info, place DEBUG=2 into the script after 'androidboot.hardware=remix_x86_64' so it looks like 'androidboot.hardware=remix_x86_64 DEBUG=2' hit F10 (softly)
Debug boot should begin.
Type exit when prompted, ignore any warnings that might come up concerning hardware not being picked up, type "exit" when prompted to do so to move on. After a few times typing "exit", does an error like this continue to roll up your screen: "init: Couldn't probe module 'net-pf-16-proto-5' "? :fingers-crossed:

A quick question. Are there any other drives connected?
You could try actually install it onto your SSD from the boot up.. Your SSD would need 2 partitions though.. One is FAT32 (around 3GB large) and the other can be FAT32 or NTFS, it wont make a difference. If you want to know how to do the install from boot then just send a reply asking.
I have just tried with a different machine and I'm getting a full SELinux error. I doubt that there is anything that we would do.. (I'm not pro enough to go reading through the actual OS files... ) Not all PC's are supported unfortunately. Mine is not, I have had better luck running Remix OS in Virtual Box, well... before the latest release at least. Now I'm getting errors that seem to have been around since Android_x86 project began.
Another option would be to try the Legacy version if your motherboard is able to boot legacy. (Sorry, have not tried looking at your MoBo)
My advice (which I am also following) would be to be patient and just hold out for a while. Until the next update comes along for us to try.
More support is intended on being added with every release.
all my files is in a fat32 partitions and work on my laptop is just my pc ... wont works
Are there any other drives connected?
yes i have 4 drive with my pc
If it is working on your laptop then settle with that for now.
No, not other drives would be recommended, just saw them in the debug at the beginning.
The error that seems to be coming up for you and I (this is as far as I understand) has to do with kernel security settings as to what to allow on boot. The issue can arise when certain files have not been given the policy labels that they require to run. So they effectively get denied constantly. This is likely where a lot of the added hardware support will sort things out... I'm also running an NVidia Card.. could be the drivers needed..(although that would not explain why VM's don't work)
Sorry that I cannot help you mate.. This is going too deep into the realm that I know little about when it comes to the actual stuff. I follow instructions when having to make a change to my Linux distro.
I do envy you having the latest version working on a device. My laptop wont boot for me either.
You could try the Andriod_x86 forums and see what the common threads are. Seeing as Jide is using android_x86 as a base.
If anyone else knows more and is able to shed light on the matter, please do so? I am also up to correction on my statements.
I asked the same question on other forums and on google group

Dual booting on the Surface Pro 3 (install in SSD)

Does anyone have a current method that actually works. I've gone through so many tutorials that do not work on my surface pro 3.
I have successful loaded from a USB, works amazing but i would really love to dual boot Remix OS on this machine.
I'm sure there are other people out there who would want to know how to do this.
I've even gone to installing Ubuntu to dual and triple boot to Remix OS with no avail...
please someone help.
EDIT:
FOUND IT!!!
https://youtu.be/bcq4ZbzBeUE
works amazing. super fast.
once done with the tutorial when you reset your Surface either hold down the shift button and click restart until it loads to the boot menu. ill post up a more detailed explanation.
How did you get it to start from USB? Man it's frustrating. I do have Bitlocker turned on. Does that need to be off? Also, did you use the EFI install or the legacy? I have 32GB SDHC that I would like to dual boot Remix to. Thanks! (I am on a Surface Pro 3 256GB i5 with Windows 10 Pro)
No just disable secure boot.
Let me find a tutorial for you. It was really easy.
Make sure you're using USB 3.0
At least 8gb
Use EFI
This is posted on the remix os website:
https://youtu.be/xYPKAzfWAik
Start at 5:44 and ignore the mention of install to extend hdd/sdd.
How did you end up doing it, after following the steps how do you boot from the partitioned drive

I Suggest to remove Nouveau\AMD kernel drivers atleast until corresponding DRI modules will be added to /lib64/dri/
Now situation look like this :
if user have dual gpu setup, there is a chance (atleast) that nvidia\amd gpu will be detected as /dev/dri/card0
android then trying to boot only trying to access /dev/dri/card0
i done some experiments - like renamed card0 to card2, android not booted, then i renamed my intel gpu card1 to card0 and android booted.
Do something about it please
@masaykh can you report this here as an issue or maybe even make a patch?
submited issue
@RemixOS_Jason I installed x64 3.0.204 and 3.0.205 but my pc stuck in A N D R O I D [email protected]_x86_64:_

My graphic card is gtx765m and my boot option is UEFI BTW

Thank you for suggestion. It worked
There is still random issues with touch not responding right on some devices, incl Surface Pro 3. If you add an option in settings to recycle touch input, it would make a nice workaround for those device owners, allowing them to use RemixOS without rebooting it every 20 minutes. Just a suggestion
any1 could help me?, in this and previous all 64 versions I'm getting this error at boot "Intel powerclamp does not run on family 6 model 23
Intel_rapl: driver does not support CPU family 6 model 23" throughout but system works and hangs in couple of hours or rapidly some times. plz help to resolve this
When I connect to my tv, it is showing on both screen, TV and my laptop. I want only 1 screen, TV. How can I fix this?
@harkaman currently that's no longer possible without fiddling with grub entries. Might not be possible at all

Thanks
Well now I have updated I no longer have sound. Worked as it should on the last release. This release has done the opisite for me
I don't have pan drive.
I have sd card reader ,can I install remix os wth help of card reader.
Please reply.

@neeraj.lambaa storage media form doesn't matter.
If it's a card reader embedded in your device then you can try, but since many devices don't enable sd card reader device until the system fully boots, booting a system from it can be impossible.
Booting from a USB card reader should work almost always.
I can manually update from 203 to 205 by performing these steps? :
1) Download latest version 3.0.205
2) With Winrar extract the kernel files, ramdisk.img, system.sfs and initrd.img
3) Copy them to replace version 3.0.203
Thanks for the reply.
@salvoplatania that should work

Installation ok, boot ok, start not ok

I just installed Remix OS and everything goes well until "Detecting Androix-x86 ... #" (something like that) is when only a dark screen appears and nothing else happens ..
I do not know what the cause of this, but I think the problem starts even when before "detecting Android-x86 ... #" a message appears saying "intel_rapl driver does not support CPU family 6 model 28"
I already played a little on Google with this message, but I did not find anything that solved my problem. Can someone help me?
If it is not possible to solve this error, is there any version of android compatible with "cpu family 6 model 28"?

Dual boot with Windows 7 (same HDD, different partitions).
I did not understand what you meant by "what is you setup". "Setup" in Brazil has many definitions. Here are some possible answers:
BIOS legacy
32bits Remix OS version
ATOM-D425 w/ Intel GMA3150, 2GB RAM
I got that before. I think it was when trying to install it stand alone on a ext4 partition. Since You have Windows format that partition as NTFS. Use EasyBCD and get rid of the RemixOS entry in the BCD.
Download the x86 version of Remix OS here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5u0FwLcOxHqdkZfYVhlVzdPWms
Give this one a try using the official installer to install it to that NTFS partion. Let me know if that works fine.

Would not that repeat the exact same process I did before? Anyway, I'll try. Thank you.
I post the results as soon as possible
Continues the dark screen after "detected android ...", but at least the incompatibility error no longer appears. I tried to run using debug = 1 since in several other topic it is recommended this, but also not resolved.
In the attachment are the logs obtained.
I only got the Detecting Android screen once, reinstalling it fixed it for me. Not sure what could be causing it for You. This device won't support 64-Bit? because You could also try the 64-Bit version and see if that works.

Yeah that's odd, could be a hardware compatibility issue. I would give this a try and see if this version of Android x86 works. It does not have a task bar or desktop like Remix OS though.
