Yes, our engineers are trying to improve the compatibility for Nvidia cards. However, it is quite hard to support all of them.

I have a 14" monitor 1366x768 want icons to be smaller

This is based on Ubunto, so search for vga=***? (scroll down for the kernel commands) https://goo.gl/kLWH from there...I don't do Ubunto so I'm not into the specifics of that distro.
Failing that Google your display hardware (whatever that is?) or maybe see what nomodeset spews out
