going back to kitkat soft keys - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyway to change back to Kitkat software keys? I hate lollipop soft keys. Buttons look nothing like what they're suppose to be. Since when do people have circle homes?

There are multiple ways to change the navigation bar... Use the magnifying glass at the top of the screen, also of note, Google...
Common sense isn't all that common

I can't find the magnifying glass at the top of the screen. What is Google?

Sorry, I was at work, didn't have time to list all the ways... Xposed xstana, Xposed g4 tweaksbox, layers navigation bar mods, just to start. Oddly enough, all stuff I found by using that wacky search function.

He means either search XDA or search using your favorite search engine such as the very popular one Google. Xposed is the only way to modify the softkeys. You must be rooted for Xposed and I would advise that you do some research first prior to going that route so you fully understand what it does and how it does it.

Layers manager works too, but you need root for that as well.

[MOD]AOSP enabled navbar - AOSP ROMS and GE only

To be clear, these will only work for AOSP ROMs and the GoogleEdition ROM.
Threw these together for myself. Love having the navbar but it is a pain to add every nightly I flash. So I threw this together. I made two versions. One simply adds the navbar and disables the capacitive menu and back buttons (with them active the navbar becomes nearly impossible to use) and triggers the navbar. Fear not, this mod triggers the in app menu overflow access and for that matter you could then create a menu on the navbar. I couldn't automate disabling the backlight so that will still need to be disabled via settings>advanced>sensors. I also made a version that changes the device DPI from 480 to 360 (my preferred DPI).
Download - AOSP_navbar_enabled.v3.zip
Base version above now allows OTA survival. Will reapply itself after each nightly.
Download - AOSP_navbar_enable_360dpi.zip
Download - AOSP_remove_NAVBAR.v3.zip
Here is the method to inject changed into the build.prop that I used (found here)
On the GoogleEdition ROM it does not support disabling the capacitive button backlights natively so the app from the following thread is needed

Of course you are welcome to your opinion!! And in part I agree. That is why I run at 360dpi, that way it has less of an impact on the display. I know it is not for everyone, but choice is the spice of life.

Thanks for this. Is it possible to only activate the in app menu overflow without adding the nav bar? It's so much more intuitive to have that, rather than guessing whether or not the menu button will do anything within each app (the whole reason google got rid of the menu button in the first place).
I wish I knew how!! To be frank, when you enable the navbar and disable the capacitive buttons it activates the menu overflow within apps all by itself. Must be part of the navbar framework. But let me look into it. I MIGHT have an idea but it would be ROM specific, not a general mod like this. What ROM are you running or would like such a feature for?

I will try for the GE port, it should be an easy mod. These don't work on stock touchwiz as it doesn't have the needed framework for the navbar. For some reason Samsung gutted the navbar from their source

Try xposed framework and use the gravity box module should be able to tweak the navigation bar how you want.
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Why don't you want to use gmd?
There's an app called "GMD auto hide soft keys" that hides the bottom software buttons. You then either tap or swipe the bottom of the phone and the buttons appear. You don't use gestures to navigate... You tap on the software keys once they appear. Then when you are done the software buttons dissappear completely.
Or where you looking for fully transparent software buttons that are always showing?

Xposed Framework has a G2 Module on Play Store that lets you assign the percentage of Navbar you want visible. I'm running at 20% on mine and its super small but very usable.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I believe G2 Xposed is only for stock and stock-based ROMs. The OP is running CM and would probably have a lot more luck with something made for AOSP-based ROMs. I would suggest Gravity Box, it has these functions plus a ton of other tweaks that you can use as you please.

Wow, more buttons....so what I only need 3 anyway. Plus the phone is big as hell, it has more space for more buttons anyway....
There are several cool features of the new software for stock control.
Is there any way to port this to stock 4.4.2 ROMs on the G2 so that we can replace the Menu button by Recent Apps?
In my humble opinion that navigation bar looks too cluttered and asymmetric.
I think, LG should just update ours G2 KK stock roms with those features we'go 20A, so maybe 20B? I also would glad welcome those dissabling features in notification bar.. go to hell with volume nad brightness sliding controls...

I happen to know of an xposed module for the G2 that will simply replace any "menu" button on the navbar with a recents button. It then causes a long-press on recents to bring up a menu. I'm sure it'll appear once xposed is updated to support the G2's kitkat firmware.

Sorry to be ot but you seem to me to be a good person to ask. I recently ran cloudya flex rom (4.2.2), a port which included the ability to hide the soft keys on apps of the users choice leaving a small touch area to bring them back. Do you happen to know if the code for this is present in the G2 stock rom but hidden or, otherwise, is it something that could easily be ported as a standalone mod? I think this may have been present in some earliar Korean builds.
I asked in the relevant thread but didn't get any joy other than being pointed in the direction of a buggy immersive app and exposed mods.
I would much appreciate your thoughts on this.
uh oh.... im in love... the glittery front bezel reminds me of the backing of the nexus 4. it looks awesome. i want it...
"G2 Xposed" allows you to customize the navbar as well, only one button less. Plus it can adjust the navbar height, and there is "bleed emmersive mode" for some well-designed apps.

★How To Get True Immersive Mode/Fullscreen/Expanded Desktop in ANY Rom★

Want true fullscreen in any 7.1.1 Nougat rom? Want to be able to get maximum viewing space on your 6p? I have a treat for you!
Although the 6p screen is very large, I'm a huge proponent of maximizing screen real estate.
I found this setup is awesome because it gives you so much more viewing screen for everyday use. For example, in Chrome, now you can see so much more of a web page and it makes your viewing space so much better:
1) All in One Gestures App: enable fullscreen (within the app to get true fullscreen/immersive mode. Expanded desktop rocks. Massively improved viewing space baby!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...gestures&hl=en
2) Download Swipe Navigation App: from playstore. This is AWESOME. Enables swipe gestures to navigate and swipe as opposed to having a physical navbar. This saves huge amounts of screen real estate. At the bottom of the screen, left swipe up is back, middle swipe up is home, and right swipe up becomes recents. (This is so cool).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...vigation&hl=en
3) In a build prop editing app (I recommend BuildProp Editor), paste this line and save:
qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1
(this removes the on-screen navigation bar, now you have awesomely improved screen real estate!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...p.editor&hl=en

Hmm. Keyboard won't work when you enable immersive mode in All in One Gestures. Kind of a deal-breaker.
Edit: tried out Swipe Navigation and the build.prop edit. Works perfectly right now. I was a little worried after restarting the phone because the Swipe Navigation app didn't start right away (I couldn't back out of an application, lol). But it started up in less than a minute and everything is good. I'm going to use for a while and maybe buy the $1.50 add-on that unlocks custom actions.

The reason why you need to edit the build prop, is because, if you want to use Swipe Gestures (the easiest and superior method for nav bar-less navigation imo) is because otherwise now you have two extra steps. You swipe up from bottom, and now you wait for the nav bar to 'come up'. You then hit the button you want. Takes time.
With my method, you instantly navigate with a gesture. One lightning fast action. That's why removing the nav bar in build prop is so important.
Also, the app you suggested costs money. Can be done better and at absolutely no cost.

I clearly stated to download the beta that i posted. It's like three months ahead of the 'stable' SuperSU development cycle.
What rom are you using? I'm using uberstock.
I flashed two other roms, and I was able to get the keyboard working in immersive mode in both.
Everyone felates and sucks off purenexus, but Uberstock runs circles around it in my opinion.

How-To Enable Two-Button Navigation on the OnePlus 8 Pro

I love that OnePlus gives us the option to use either gesture or three-button navigation. But I wish we had two-button navigation too! It's the best of both worlds! The good news is that it's super easy to enable Two Button Navigation with a super quick and easy ADB command. You will need USB Debugging enabled on your phone and ADB installed on your computer.
ADB Command: adb shell cmd overlay enable com.android.internal.systemui.navbar.twobutton
Check out the video here to see it in action.
If you are on Android 11, the first method will not work. Please watch this video for instructions on how to get Two Button Navigation working on Android 11 (root required):
Would you happen to know how to get the original OnePlus gestures back to? Just figured I'd ask. Thanks.

they were the OnePlus gestures found on the OnePlus 6t that's what I came from and the back was a swipe up from the bottom corner of the left or the right side and then swipe up home was straight up from the center and then recents was swipe up and hold and then you can also jump to your last app that you opened by swiping up and to the right.

So it took me a few minutes to refresh my memory but I figured out what you're looking for! Good news is that I have the answer, bad news is that it's not what you're looking for.
When Google rolled out Android 10 they basically gave OEM's requirements on how the navigation bar had to work. The old implementation you're looking for is OnePlus's take on gesture navigation and Google basically says don't do it. So when they rolled out the OnePlus 7, they got rid of that option.
There might still be a way to enable it, but I haven't found anything yet. If I do, I'll be sure to let you know!
Here's a really good write up that explains the change. https://www.xda-developers.com/google-gesture-navigation-android-10/

There might still be a way to enable it, but I haven't found anything yet. If I do, I'll be sure to let you know!
Here's a really good write up that explains the change. https://www.xda-developers.com/google-gesture-navigation-android-10/

FWIW, Google doesn't force OEMs to get rid of their own gesture implementation - they just have to hide it behind one extra Settings layer. For example, on the OPPO Find X2 Pro running ColorOS 7.1, you can still enable the swipe-up gestures (the same one from older versions of OxygenOS) as well as Google's full-screen gestures.

I wish it was a bug! Unfortunately, it's 100% by design. With Android 10, Google basically retired any navigation options that weren't their gesture or three-button options. Manufacturers can still include their own options but they have to do it in a submenu and can't use the Google framework files for it. They basically have to repack a bunch of files to get their stuff in the right spot on the menus, to get the overlay to work correctly, and then they have to still push the Google options as the default. It's just not cost-effective for OnePlus (or any manufacturer other than maybe Samsung) to use another option now. This method worked because OnePlus already had the work done on the framework, they just didn't update the menu to show their navigation options. With Android 11, there was enough of a rebase going on that they didn't go through the effort of adding it back in. But hey, this is XDA. I'm sure we'll see some mods in the future that will bring it back though!
