Viper4android? - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was thinking of buying this phone..just curious can you use viper4android with the hifi dac? Is the dac really that noticeable ? Only reason i would be buying it is for the dac ..if not id get a nexus 6p..

You don't need viper for headphones, as viper only works on the stock Qualcomm dac. You will need viper or Dolby atmos for the speaker on the V10 (which sucks without help).
The ESS DAC makes a significant audio difference with headphones. The two phones have pluses and minuses. The Nexus and the software updates and dual front speakers is a major consideration.
If you are a headphone person and you need external storage and want to be able to change the battery,-V10 all day
most other reasons get the nexus 6P, especially software

Does the ESS DAC give you more throbbing bass? I was thinking the nexus but i heard it had no ois but then people said it wasnt so shaky.. If you were to pick one of those phones, which would you get? I am coming from a pos iphone 6s +

I came to the V10 from the nexus 6, the 6p didn't seem that great to me, (basically the 6 w/fingerprint scanner) if the only thing you really care about is phone speakers then go 6p, but the v10 is so much better on so many levels, best camera I've ever seen on a phone, with viper and Dolby atmos, your set up possibilities are endless, and it delivers great bass, dac doesn't do much unless all your music is hifi... And it just processes amazingly clear music, but no, it doesn't boost the bass, it's just tighter, less convoluted, with great clarity.
But to answer your main question, the v10 turned my nexus6 into my 3 year old sons tablet... And you couldn't get me to trade it for a 6p...

Ahh okay thanks that's exactly what I'm looking for ! How's the battery for you ? What's your sot?
Edit: does it get laggy after awhile like the G4 did ?

I've got mine tweaked a bit, but I'm getting around 8 hrs sot per charge on a stock based rom... (Siraltus) I'm running a cm 12 build right now t (testing battery) ... and no lagging at all on stock or cm... We've got a pretty damn good network of helpful people here, a lot of good threads to get the most out of this phone... And I think, once MM drops in the next few weeks I it's just going to get better.

How is the battery life so far ? And what all doesn't work on that rom? Isn't that just like the pure nexus experience then but with better specs ? Hahaha
I didn't know they were going to release marshmallow for the v10.
Edit: with cm I bet the hifi dac doesn't work huh?

Yeah, the 6p really wasn't a choice for me... Mine was between this, the moto X pure, and the note 5. Sammy lost me without the expandable storage, so really it came down to this or moto... I liked this camera better, even though the moto was 21mp, and I liked the idea of the second screen. The biggest thing was the extra battery, and 200gb SDcard.

Yea I was always a sammy fan then they went the apple route. That's the main reason I got the phone added memory and removable batterym I did miss that 200gb and battery offer tho, which sucked.

I flashed dolby atmos and checked use awesomeplayer (vs nuplayer) in the developer settings, but it doesnt seem to take. How did you get dolby to work? It seems like some apps work (pocket casts) while others don't (Pandora and Spotify)

aside from that, enable the two I've turned on at the bottom.
If you are not set to permissive, flash this zip reboot 2x's and you should be good to go... (1st boot enables init.d, 2nd sets to permissive. Let me know if that helps.

I for the life of can not get viper installed. I am on Siraltus ROM, busybox installed, permissive status, Viper 2.4.0.1 installed. When I open viper it will not load the drivers, I get a pop up stating busybox is broken. What am I missing??

Fixed it. Turns out SU 2.65 was the cause. Flashed back to SU 2.46 and all is well.

Galaxy nexus for rezound

Thinking of making a trade. Good idea, bad idea? Any thoughts?

tbh, I would stick with the GNEX. I have a GNEX and Rezound on my account, along with other phones, and while I like my rezound, I find the GNEX more desirable for my likes. AOKP and AOSP on the GNEX being the most desirable to me. Both phones function well though, but the development for the GNEX is far larger in scale.
Plus, and this may just be luck, but I just sent in for my 2nd replacement phone for the Rezound. My son has yet to return his GNEX.

It really all depends, I know someone who went through 4 Gnex's before getting a totally different phone. Every phone has it's issues, and a group of lemons.
And with that being said, with upcoming plans for s-off and AOSP development for the Rezound, I'd say it's gonna be just as good, if not better.
hardware and screen is too sooky for me to trade but IMO its a Great idea to trade it.

I hear you, and thats why I said it might have been luck, but I'm only commenting on my own personal experience with the two phones. As for AOKP and AOSP, I hope it does become a "stable" reality for the Rezound, but until I see it, I really can't mention it as a plus for the rezound.

This is with the 2750mah ext batt, testing the standard 1620mah today... Rom/Setup from my sig.

And I too, want both devices, mainly for AOSP support and the fact that it's a "Nexus". But with the HTC One X and SGS3 on the horizon, it's gonna be a tough choice.

Well I had the Rezound, returned for Gnex and now I'm trading it again for a Rezound,so I'll break it down like a few others said in the the thread
Gnex= Pure google experience, unlocked and root ready
Rezound=music lovers,different Rom variety,sense UI lovers
Had a GNex for a week, traded it in for a Rezound. Issues for me were mostly poor 3G/4G reception (and I tried every radio out there) and crappy battery life. Extended battery cleared that issue up, but it was quite bulky. Lovin' my Rezound.
Rezound is the better phone.
Better screen(gnex has screen burn in).
Removable storage
Better reception
Doesn't drop data connection like gnex
Better camera by far front and back
Beats audio with matching ear buds.
Better hardware. T.I Omap CPU is crap
Soon to have s-off so aosp is near
Owned both and rezound is just a better phone imo

Better screen(gnex has screen burn in). -(opinion; I like the GN screen better)
Removable storage -(I've never had to remove my sd from any of my previous phones)
Better reception -(possibly, but I never drop calls and I always have a signal)
Doesn't drop data connection like gnex -(My GN has NEVER dropped data)
Better camera by far front and back -(both cameras are comparable)
Taken with my Nexus

I do own both phones. I like both and I'm not bashing the Rez, but I still prefer my GN. The main thing I hate on my Rezound (besides the obvious gripes) is the pink softkeys. It's embarrassing lol.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Rezound is unequivocally the better phone. Stock Android is unequivocally the better UI. Take your pick I guess. The screen and camera are dealbreakers for me with the Nexus. That camera is embarrassing for a flagship phone.
The screen factor isn't a matter of opinion, the rezound hands down has the better screen, same exact resolution, higher pixel density... it's proven. All other factors are pretty much a matter of opinion though, 5mp v 8mp, Snapdragon S3 v TI OMAP, screen size, etc. It's all personal preference. Personally I'd take both of them, but I'm happy with my rezound for now. Really wouldn't mind the One X or the SGS3 though.
And if we'd have seen both of these phones drop with ICS on them outta the box, just one with AOSP and one with Sense 3.6, the game woulda been different from the start.
Personally I think Samsung and HTC need to work together on the next Nexus phone, HTC design, Samsung internals, Google software. Call it the Google Nexus Galaxy One.
I have to agree the camera is horrible and to even say they are comparable is silly. The gnex takes ok pics in good lighting. Rezoubd takes good pics in most conditions. Not great but a lot better than the gnex.

I had the nexus 10 prior to all the new sound development, and the quality of sound was lacking. The only benefit was having two speakers, but the speakers didn't sound that great.
My HTC One by comparison, sounds leagues better. Wider soundstage, better highs/lows.

BUT, now that there is sound development there is no point in comparing either.
The HTC One doesn't compare to my Nexus 10 with sound mods by a long shot.
And no it's not hard to install. You install the APK and voila.
Check out Viper audio mod, I linked it in my previous post on this thread.
Comparing hardware is one thing, but comparing something that can be changed is moot. Anything software related can be and will be changed sooner or later to those who seek for a "better" something; in this case audio. (because the size of the speaker really isn't a good argument as you can see).
I do not understand why this is even a discussion. People here, on XDA, don't settle for stock so yeah. I'm done peace.

Maybe I'm doing somethign wrong... I have PACMan ROM installed with the KTManta kernel on the Nexus 10. I installed the Cortex w/ NEON driver, I'm 95% sure that's the one I should've picked. However, for whatever reason, every time I try to activate the mod by going to "settings", the Settings app force closes. I installed both of these via apk. Am I missing something? Does it not work with custom ROM's/kernels?
EDIT: I also have no Impulse Response opetions, and don't see some of the options in Android FX. I get the error "ViPER4Android : The IR sample directory /storage/emulated/0/ViPER4Android/kernel/ is empty"
EDIT 2: Perhaps it is incompatible with CM's DSP manager? Or maybe I picked the wrong CPU? It should've been the Cortex A8/A15 w/ NEON and Cortex w/ NEON in both apps, right?
EDIT 3: Seems I got the right CPU. Now to track down the issue. What ROM are you using?
EDIT 4: Ignore me, it IS the ROM I'm using. Just found it in the ROM thread.

Can anybody else confirm which of these behaviors is what it should look like on the N10? A menu or an app chooser?
So great i wanna take one hahahah lol...:highfive:
I just bought one today, damn looks like my HTC one is louder. And the worst part is me and my daughter sitting together with her 1st gen iPad and her is much louder than the N10
I own both Nexus 7 and 10 as well as HTC One so let me tell you about sound and displays. Most gorgous display is no doubt in HTC even there resoulution is not so high as N10 the colors are ideal, not as saturated and vivid as samsung but much closer to realty. The washed up display is in N7 but N10 lacks blue I saw it by looking at same icons from same app. I have some light bleed in N10 at right down corner but I am only able to see it at night so it is not bothering much. Display goes to HTC for overall expirence.
Quality build is really a issue with N7, the display is lifting above the frame for about one mm at the left side and after pressure returnig for some time to design position. Also applying pressure at edges of screen couse discoloration. HTC is beautifull, almost perfect but right upper frame is not ideal folded as well as drills made for speakres are really nice but its a dust magnet. N10 is in my opinion closest to perfection, my eye only found out that the pogo carging pins can be seen by the gap in bazel. The material gives a premium warm fell.
Bulid goes to N10 as its almost flowless.
Sound quality is avarage in N7 (two rear speakres) better in samsung, two really loud front speakers, and best in HTC. It's loud and really nice for such a small device. Sound is wide and there is even sth like low frequencies hearable.
Sounds goes to HTC no doubt about it.
I won't say which device is the best because it's impossible to compare SUV to convertible as well to lorry. I hope it's usefull to someone, just remember english is my second language.

HTC One Max General/Off-Topic/Anything Discussion

Hi!!!
I have recently become phone-less, I had an HTC One, which I gave to my brother for his birthday, then I purchased the Nexus 5. Yestarday I dropped the Nexus from ~2ft, onto carpet, and the internal LCD cracked, the glass was fine. I called Google and THANK GOD they let me return it. Right now it is between the HTC One Max and the Moto X. Please give your honest opinions of the Max, I'll be eternally grateful!!

HTC one max man. If you liked HTC one you will love this thing. Screen blows Moto x away but phone is big. If you don't like the added size it won't be a good phone for you. If a big phone doesn't bother you go for the max!!

Thanks. How does it compare to the Note III? I may also consider that.

That's the two I am considering as well. I honestly like the size of the Note 3 better, but I am HTC guy to the bone. I have owned about 8 of them. I like sense alot more than Samsung's touchwiz garbage. If someone could make a HTC Sense rom work on a Note 3, my decision would be made, LOL.
I like the Note III it could be the phone to pull me away from HTC

I don't know.... The back is what I despise, the leather-textured plastic crap don't cut it for me.
Pros and cons for both phones....
HTC Pros:
Screen size, clarity and brightness
Signal wifi and LTE are great just like every htc device
Aluminum body/build quality these are top notch
Sense UI i absolutely love sense over any other android ui so big pro for me
Speakers once again boom sound speakers will blow any other phone out there out of the water
Sdcard not often we see an htc with an sdcard
HTC Cons:
Size. phone is huge im 6'4" with big hands and i can barely reach everything i need to. But it is basically a two hand device for the majority of people
Camera doesnt have OIS and only a 4 up i have never been a big fan of the whole up movement and dont think the pictures are terrible but not as good as others (aka note 3, s4, etc)
Little features it lacks as well compared to note 3 would be s pen, multi windows, high screen sensitivity for use with gloves little things like that
Development. While the phone does have s-off, unlocked etc etc there is no roms for verizon you can use xposed all you want but no custom roms
Somewhere in the middle
Battery. While the battery life is great always lasted me a full day from when i get up til i go to bed would be nice if you could remove battery and replace with a charged one but not a huge deal
Note 3 time....Pros:
Screen size and ppi while it is not as bright as htc one max it does have like a 13 ppi higher not a big deal here though lol
Removable battery and sdcard, nice to have both and battery lasts just as well as htc one max
Camera the 13mp shooter does better then htc i think and also 4k video not available on any other device
Little features as mentioned above. s pen, multi windows, high screen sensitivity for use with gloves, ambient temp/humidity sensor little things like that are nice to have especially now in the winter lol
Development (for me at least) i have developer edition so i have unlocked bootloader and full recovery and access to tmobile and verizon roms and kernels. Now the verizon retail does have safestrap and multiple roms to choose from
Note 3 Cons:
Speaker. I will be honest it straight up sucks! worst i have ever heard i think my first android phone the droid x was better it is awful and after hearing htc one and one max they ruin you lol
Signal. wifi is always giving you connection unstable and bogs down. lte isnt terrible but isnt as good as previous s4 and htc one of course
Somewhere in the middle
Touchwiz ui not a diehard fan of it like i am sense but very nicely done
Build quality. not bad at all but not quite up to par with htc one and one max. fake leather back isnt bad but black does feel better then white.

why dont you just go to a sprint store and look at the 2 yourself?
I never understand why people don't just do things on their own and make up their own minds...
Asking this question in a htc max thread will obviously get you people who say they love this phone, so not sure what you expect to accomplish by asking this here...

I posted in the Moto X and Note III forums as well. I am going to the Sprint store today.
I asked for opinions of people that have used the phone for an extended period of time.
@oneandroidnut nice post thanks
i would still suggest not adding the size as a con.. its the size which is a pro for this device, ppl who buy the device majorly love big screens. Screen is a turn off for me with saturated colors, that's again personal like the size.
and the camera, i won't say its the best camera, however, it is the best usable camera practically. Low light pic's blow out any other phone and due to the bigger size of the phone, users hold the phone real solid before taking the pic resulting in a better picture without OIS. Zoe/Highlight + themes + music = beautiful stuff in Sense 5.5
development is slow to start off, but HTC seems to do a better job than Samsung at the stock, which counts for stock users
S-pen & other gimmicks are genuine feature that is not there on the MAX however S-Pen is not useful for me and many other note users who have migrated from Samsung.

i agree that i like the size but phone will way to big for the majority of people. and the screen has the best colors of any display to me. the amoled samsung are the over saturated ones.
camera is better in low light but thats about it. my note 3 are sharper and better for just normal light photos.
we will see i hope development picks up on one max i could use a custom rom or two
while i may not need it, it is nice to have. i can use note 3 with s pen if my hands are all nasty, if i have gloves on, etc etc while max or others i cannot. and trust me multi window is nice and not a gimmick

Well, just to increase your excitement a little further.
I have owned just about all the flagship phones over the last 3 years. HTC one M7, 8 & 9. Galaxy note 2 & 4. Galaxy S3 & 4. Nexus 4, 5 &6. iPhone 6 & 6+. (Seriously). Alot I know.
Have never found one that i thought truely had everything. HTC's (great speakers, smooth rom, but rubbish camera. Samsung Notes and Galaxy's (Good cameras, cheap build, laggy software). Nexus devices (fast smooth OS, poor cameras and build). iPhones (stable smooth OS, good camera, locked down OS, boring).
But, the S6 edge is absolutely fantastic. The build is brilliant and beautiful, the camera is absolutely excellent and the phone is blazing fast (ignoring touchwiz redraw). I really do think that this phone is a game changer and the best device released in the last 3-4 years hands down.
So please rest assured that i think you will find that this phone is very much worth the wait. (plus there might be some custom development by the time you receive the device).
Hope you enjoy

This is great to hear. I've been worrying about choosing between this and the M9 for ages. I've had flagships forever as well, but when I saw that this one wasn't waterproof and had no expandable memory I got very sad. But looking at this and the M9 side by side, the LED display is about 999x brighter. Coming from an S5 I can't got back on a good, bright screen.
This phone is so freaking awesome...excellent build, gorgeous display and the best camera in the market (daylight and night pics)... The speakers are loud too(sound quality is decent)… Samsung set the bar really high with this one.

I did a side-by-side comparison in the store as well and to me it wasn't merely about brightness of the M9 and the S6, but the resolution really appeared to me to be much better for the S6. I'm an HTC loyalist and have been for years, but the screen and camera issues with the M9 caused me to jump ship back to Samsung, not to mention there is now a Samsung phone that has an attractive build. Fingerprint scanning and wireless charging were big plusses as well. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and decision.
I don't think you'll be disappointed at all. The only thing that isn't up to par with the Ones IMO is the speakers, and who listens to high end audio through their phone's speakers expecting greatness anyway. Heck, I never did that with my One.
Did anyone mention too that the cameras are amazing?!? LOL simply put, I reiterate everyone else's sentiments that this is the best phone I have owned to date and I've had many of the flagship devices. I also was always opposed to not being able to change the battery or expand the storage but I haven't had issues with the battery or storage yet! I know it isn't the "post your photo" section but this is one I took at night that is unedited. Best night shot on a cell phone I've ever owned.

My list isn't as robust, but I've owned and used a lot of phones, and the S6 Edge is the first time since the freaking Galaxy Nexus that I can recall being genuinely excited about a new phone and not just "oh hey that looks rad I want it." From the moment I saw the S6 Edge I had a moment of "well I'm getting that." The Nexus 6, the M9, those didn't really grip me. They're fine phones, but nothing that made me almost annoyed at the knowledge that I'd be getting ANOTHER phone.
I'm not going to call the S6 Edge perfect, but I will say that it's the closest I have EVER run across. I have my quirks with TouchWiz still, it's a bit too slippery for comfort, and TBH the whole edge thing is, as yet, a bit gimmicky. The notifications are... okay, and the clock is nice, but I don't put a lot of mileage into them.
What the S6 Edge nails is just the intangibles. I haven't just wanted to PLAY with a phone since I got the iPhone 5s. Even when I have nothing to do, when I'm sitting at my laptop, I find myself looking for excuses.

Do you guys think quick charge makes up for the small battery?. That's the only thing that disappoints me, the battery life
I LOVE my HTC one m8 and haven't had a Samsung since the original note, it's great to hear these comments and I can't wait to get mine! Going to be a long week whilst I'm waiting.

I know there are a number of users who are complaining about battery life but mine is ok. Averaging around 4-5h screen time. Not great but not bad. Fast charge however is excellent. It charges extremely quickly. I have also purchased a koolpad qi charger and this works brilliantly. A bigger battery would of been nice but then that means a bigger heavier phone.
My battery life has been considerably better than my HTC One M8 was (also owned an M7). Both HTC's were good phones, but the S6 Edge is *amazing* in so many departments... loving my purchase decision.

is it worth to move from Note 4 to LG v10

today i have the note 4 sm-n910u , will be a good step to buy a V10 - will i enjoy this device?
I'd suggest going to the store and playing around with it a while with the live demo phones.

i am from Israel - i will buy the Orange version that comes with the Radio
A recent convert here!
I have to be honest, my main incentive to upgrade was the 200GB microsd promo, which I'm loving at the moment.
Other than that, I would say that you would get roughly the same experience with the V10. There are some really annoying quirks like the random bluetooth issues, or the fingerprint issue with the case. But overall, it's a great device.
I do really like the second screen experience, can't wait till we are able to customize it even more with custom ROMs.
and oh, standard 64GB internal ROM is GREAT.
How works the FM radio ? Is it working on Steteo too ?
I had a note 4 Prior to my nexus 6. Note 4 is a good phone, I just never used the Stylus and cant stand Sammy bloatware. The V10 Is my favorite phone to date.

I came from a note 4. I usually upgrade every year and both phone while fast, the v10 appealed to me in the same way my note 4 did. Speed wise my maps no longer has gps issues and my recent apps is much smoother. I do love the pen but in return you get a 2nd screen which is quite useful.
An example: I am in phone conferences for a chunk of the day and leave it on mute. When someone calls on me to speak and I have my maps on the current screen, in a panic I look for the dialer app. Not anymore, the 2nd screen instantly takes me to the dialer which is an awesome feature for me! Also the audio quality is excellent out of the headphone jack and it still has an ir blaster. Not many other phones have this many features!
So yes, compared to the note 5 which is missing an SD card battery ir blaster and a company that gives a darn about their roots, the LG v10 is the next in line.
On a side note, Samsung is considering an SD card in their s7 so the next note may be some good competition but I need 2 batteries, this dies around 1pm with my heavy use.

From someone who actively change between the Note 4 and LG V10, I will say the the biggest drawback is the battery on V10 is extremely lacking compared to my Note 4. The speed and fluidity I have to give to LG due to a lighter UI as opposed to TW. I would never get rid of either because there are days I hate the V10 and vice versa. Its situational based over anything else

Just dropped my Note 4 for this. I'm an AT&T user on the Tmobile variant. Right now I have no LTE. Once that is figured out this phone will be a lot better.
Note 4: Better battery life for me especially with kit Kat versus lollipo, better screen Blacks, better Bluetooth connectivity, better development community (FireKat and Cm12.1), spen is cool, for me the button placement is better (I'm not the biggest rear button fan) on the V10, better speaker phone, ODIN full wipes, better build quality, for me the s6 keyboard port is the best keyboard so far , youtube 2k does NOT stall , ir blaster has better directional range
V10 : more ram and not TW equals a extremely smooth device, awesome DAC for headphones, fingerprint is 1,000 times better, native 64bit android seems snappier, works better with xposed very little cpu lag, the screen is excellent overall!!! , audio playback is smooth with no stuttering like on the note4 sometimes. Screen does not overheat and dim-great job LG.
Just off the top of my end phone to phone. Both are great..
If buying today 350-400 used note 4 vs 599 V10 (free 200gb card and $100 off promo if you got in early ). I would say the V10 if you like music and xposed. No freebies..I'd stick with the Note4 till Jan/Feb.
If you can find a kit Kat device, stick with the note4 till the 820 devices come out, as the V10 will be outpaced as soon as the 820 devices are released and I assume more carriers will use the ess DAC.
