VS985 All OTA files 11C through 48A and stock bloat count - updated 8/4/2016 - Verizon LG G3

I have no idea if these will be any use to anyone. We were able to manually apply the 10B to 11C, 11C to 12B, and 12B to 23C OTA files but I didn't have any luck trying to do the same with the 23C to 24B OTA file so I don't expect anything since then to work either.
If anyone tries or figures out a way to apply the 24B, 35B, 46A or 47A OTA manually to an unrooted VS985, I'm sure some who both don't root their phone and also don't use Verizon will be made happy. If anyone does test it or figure out how to manually apply it, let me know and I'll post a link to your method.
The files are captured from root/cache/fota after downloading, but before applying the update.
All of the following OTA files are available in my section on Android File Host at https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=35187. Thanks to everyone who has made us aware of upcoming OTAs.

The updates through 23C will work if you're rooted as long as everything else is completely official stock. No custom kernel, no custom recovery, etc. You won't have root once you use the OTA to get you to 23C, however, plus the About Software menu will show your status as "Modified" due to the prior root.
I haven't had any luck so far trying to implement the method of manually applying the OTAs (starting with 23Cto24B) without root by way of @xdabbeb 's instructions in these two threads. I don't know what else to try.
By the way, I had no idea before now that @xdabbeb was the one who had discovered and made guides to this method.
VS98024A - OTA manual install + Patched Stock Kernels
and
VS980 Resources - Bootstacks/Modems/Manual OTA/etc at the bottom of the first post in the section "Manual OTA".
I've tried both via Activity Launcher and ADB without any success. The black screen with the blue lettering "FOTA Easy Update" pops up but eventually goes away without it doing anything. The best I've gotten is possibly a reboot with a notification saying Software Update Failed after the reboot.
In summary, these instructions will ONLY work up through the 12Bto23C OTA.
1. Create a folder on your internal storage called "SoftwareUpdate", exactly like that.
2. Put the largest file for the OTA you want to apply (will only work on the "from" version, i.e. the 12Bto24B will only work if you have official and with no custom recovery stock 12B) in the folder from step #1.
3. Rename the file so that it has the extension ".up" at the end. In other words, rename "dlpkgfile" to "12Bto24B.up", just for example.
4. You can use an app in the Play Store called Activity Launcher (there are probably other methods) to start the OTA process by finding the right activity in the list. I don't remember the exact specifics but if I have time sometime, I'll post details and screenshots.
If anyone has any corrections for my instructions, please let me know.
If anyone can find a way to apply the 24B and later OTAs manually, they will require 100% completely official UNrooted (and never rooted since the last time you used a KDZ or TOT) stock, and again with no custom recovery or kernel.
Thanks to @DeanGibson for providing the OTA update PDFs (Verizon started using HTML pages instead of PDFs after 24B).

When 35B originally came out, I wasn't motivated enough to capture the OTA files since I didn't have any luck with trying to manually apply the 24B OTA and I figured it hadn't improved with 35B.
I guess for completeness sake I'll capture the 24Bto35B OTA and put it up too. I have copies of the 10Bto11C and 11Cto12B ones too, so same with them.
I'll post here when 24Bto35B is up. Not sure if it'll be tonight, tomorrow or when.
I guess this will become the OTA repository.

24Bto35B OTA is up at the same link. Good luck!
By the way, can you use the 35B KDZ to flash it, or don't you have access to a Windows PC?

Updated OP and uploaded all existing OTA files to my section on Android File Host, linked in the first post.

Hopefully someone figures something out. It's good to have options!

renaming to 46.up and copying to SoftwareUpdate folder on sdcard and using the am start -n com.lge.lgfota.permission/com.lge.lgfota.permission.DmcEzUpdateStart method will start the update process for me on 35B but since im rooted when it restarts it just tells me the software update fails. I dunno if i wanna take the time to go back to stock tonight I'm tired.

I'm guessing a terminal command, but not sure. I'm pretty sure it's the same as what I described in the first post using Activity Launcher from the Play Store. Look for DmcEzUpdateStart towards the bottom of the list of activities.

It is the same as finding the activity only doing it through adb shell, because when I try to start the activity directly from the phone it tells me permission denied. I still dont know if it will complete because i myself can't do it, but if you wanna try you have to be completely unmodded.

Whenever I tried with it on the external storage as opposed to internal, the phone would flash (what i think) was the ezupdate screen and never do anything. Only goes into the motions for me on sdcard0.

[Q] LG G3 OTA Updates and Root?

So, I am getting an LG G3 tomorrow.
I already looked up how to downgrade it to 10B, root with Stump or Ioroot, and use Bump! to install TWRP. (Unless the software it comes with will be rootable, but I doubt it. If I am wrong, please let me know!) I obviously don't know everything there is to know, and may have missed some things.
Once I have it rooted.
I upgrade it via OTA keeping root with SuperSU's survival mode.
And it should stay rooted?
Then I use Bump! to flash TWRP into it, or can I do that before and update? I am just getting this phone and I really don't want to mess it up.
Downgrading and rooting it will be no issue, but I am unsure whether I use Bump! to install TWRP before or after updating it OTA.
Or if I should even update it at all and wait until developers say it's okay on the latest software as of Dec. 13th.
I checked around for a good thirty minutes and did not find a clear answer, I am hoping someone can directly clear this up.
I know updating a phone OTA while trying to keep root isn't the smartest thing to do, but if it works then I have the latest software and it's also a rooted device.
Also, the latest software I saw was 12D? Is that it, or is it 11C? I am confused on how the updates are (in the sense of which ones are out for this phone/coming out soon).
In simplicity/TL;DR:
(I did read about my issue, but could not find anything so I asked here!)
Once I downgrade to 10B and root my G3, is it safe to update OTA and keep root? (With SuperSU Survival Mode I'd assume.)
If so, should I flash TWRP with Bump! before or after the updates?
- If after, what should I do? Reflash completely back to 10B?
What is the latest released update for the G3 (Verizon - VS985)?
- Is there a new update coming soon?
Do the updates actually help the phone performance and fix issues without me doing anything to improve performance and fix issues myself?
Thanks!

One more thing...
When I am updating and another software update is released, I will have TWRP flashed.
Updating it will cause a bootloop.
How can I prevent that?
Using titanium backup (TiBU) or similar program, freeze the app called "System updates 1_...". For me this has worked, though some people seem to still have issues; I'm trying to figure out if it is a TiBU problem or if they have accidentally frozen the wrong thing.
Alternative is to go to /system/app and rename the two LGDMSClient files, add a .bak to the end of the names, then restart.
See this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56061720
Copy the zip in the first post onto your phone. If you accidentally do get an ota after you have a custom recovery, tell twrp to Install that zip
file. It will flush the ota from your system, so you aren't such buying to recovery.

You DO know that you can downgrade back to 10b to root and bump, correct? Just use KDZ or TOT files.
That was one of the other things I researched before getting this phone. Luckily, it came with 10B, but I'm on 12b, rooted and bumped.
Yes thanks. Just preparing everything. I had LG usb driver issue, resolved now with latest from LG. Now downloading 10b TOT. Too many years getting comfortable rooting HTC 's lol.

I know the feeling. For the past 3 three years, I was on Motorola phones, so there was a lot of FXZ files and fastboot flashing for me. Switching to LG meant learning that all over again.

That I don't know about, since the two tools to flash the TOT and KDZ files are windows based.
Not sure if you could get them to run via Wine or something, but that might be an option, but since it also requires all the drivers and such, I have no idea how/if that would work and wouldn't even know how to start to set that up.
On motorola phones, you could use the fastboot command line tool that comes with the Android SDK and drivers, so that was nice.
But to take the TOT and KDZ files and flash them under Linux, I have no idea.
I got my phone on 11b, and downgraded it.
Used the Stump root, and then I used Bump! to install TWRP.
Forgot to do the updates, oh well another day.
They're not that important., right?
It's often handy to update modem, to pick up any enhancements on the rf side, the sw that actually talks to the cell tower.
I also ended up updating to the 11c boot, and the 12b system. IMG. 12b system picks up Verizon's first VoLTE, what they call Advanced Calling 1.0.
I did the above by using autoprime's flash2xxx zip files, and the .IMG files.

Advanced calling does nothing for me because I believe it's an extra charge on your bill for it. Forget that!
AC 1.0 is no added charge. HD voice is billed the same as any other call. The video part of a video call gets booked against your data plan (I'm grandfathered Unlimited), and free if it goes over WiFi.

This is the second G3 I have purchased. I Suggest using one click root to root. Also stop and Phil's can be flashed using flashing. It seems easier to me dealing with image rather than zip. I've foremost roms and so far my experience has me favoring Bliss Pop. That is what I am running now and to be honest I think I'm going back to 10b. The customizations are nice but to me it's not worth the problems associated with L.P. My opinion Bliss Pop has the best handle on the problems and still too much for me. I'm going to give LP a few months for the developers fix all bugs. Verizon hasn't released LP yet and there is reason behind that other than being big bully carrier. Once again my opinion only. You picked a great phone that is for sure!

[Q] Should I update from 11C to 12B?

I had to do a warranty swap on my 10B that I had rooted. (Bad screen) The replacement they sent me is an 11C. Is there any reason I should stay on 11C as opposed to updating to 12B? I mean as far as terms of rooting, custom recoveries and things of that nature. Can everything be done on 12B that can be done on 11C? I rooted when it first became available and really havent done anything since then. But would like to start playing with some custom roms now that LP is getting a lil more solid.
12b is now rootable: I followed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3049772 . It worked like a charm. Apparently also works for the unofficial 5.x releases (23a? 23b?).
It's now apparently been incorporated into a "one-click" script:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951
I have no great desire to play with new ROMs (I have a couple of Nexus tablets for that -- the phone is for work) so I haven't flashed any custom recovery, but it's apparently do-able on 12b once you have root. I *do* like having Xposed Framwork on there with things like GravityBox and XSSID to tweak my status bar and SwipeBack to make that nice big screen a bit easier to navigate. With those tweaks done, there really isn't anything else I need.

In my experience, I posted this on a couple other threads, if you're on a GSM network, any radio after 11c disables LTE.
If you are on Verizon you are still going to get LTE. I personally have cricket and do not get LTE unless i'm on 10b or 11c. Any modem after that disables my LTE and I only get H+
Hope this helps
I have had nothing but problems with my phone since upgrading to 12B. Call quality is lousy. Everyone complains they can't hear and that it's garbled, echoes, and mostly static. The volume from the ear speaker is greatly muted even on its loudest setting. GIFs are broken in the stock texting apps (Hangouts, Messages+, stock) but I a at least found a workaround with Textra. From what I've read in the various forums online it's a common problem. I tried doing a warranty swap hoping it was just a malfunction in the phone but the one LG sent me has the same problems, too.
I had absolutely no problems on 11C and wish there was a way I could revert without rooting. The employees at the Verizon store just shake their head and tell me I'm just going to have to wait for Lollipop - whenever that'll happen. So until then I'm stuck.
Keep in mind not everyone is having this problem and I don't know what conditions have been in place that caused these issues with my phone. You might get lucky.

Sure, and you're welcome. I searched for "TOT" in the main Verizon LG G3 section (where the subsections are listed) and on the bottom of the second page I found [URL="[/URL]
It gives a link to the Windows tool you need to flash it to your phone while your phone is in download mode. It'll wipe everything including the internal storage, so backup any pictures or other things you want from the internal storage to external SD or to the PC first.

If the memory leak has been fixed though, I see no reason not to do the update as a whole.
Just so I'm understanding this correctly: both downgrading and root are retained through updating so long as we revert back to 12B first before installing?

No definitely not, you have to be completely stock on 12B with no root and stock recovery in order to flash it.

First time I used activity launcher to go to 23c from 12b....got no Wi-Fi. Kdz back to 12b, then activity launcher to 23c got no system ui. Now I'm back on 23c after Another kdz to 12b and still have no working Wi-Fi. So I'm confused.
Also won't let me do screenshots. Says cannot copy. Damaged file.

I tot'd to 10b_03 and ota'd up to 12b, no root. Once on 12b i used activity launcher to go up to 23C and worked perfectly. Did that both times with no issues. I had issues with all the kdz files, it's like they're not the official release or something.
Where can i get the 10b_03? And how does the tot method work?

10b_03 tot file is here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/6ip22jjhk7g3kgz/LG_G3_VS985_10B_03_Stock_TOT.zip
Its not mine, credits to 216Monster for posting it
And I uploaded the tot based LG Flash tool for ya here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934550550
Pretty sure it works the same as kdz with the flashtool. the hacked dll to use it, and the vs985 dll to flash tot's with are included in the folder itself, all you need to do is download it and the tot file, point it to the lg dll file and the tot file, connect phone in download mode, hit ready, unplug and replug phone and it should work. You may need to open device manager->Ports, select the lg g3 port, properties, advanced, and change the port number to COM41 instead of whatever it auto assigns. Thats pretty much it.
Hunch

This is just a hunch but it seems that when you KDZ to 12b and do the updates, there are errors, myself included experienced them. From what I'm reading, people who go back to 10b and do the ota's upwards are not experiencing problems if any at all. I ToT's back to 10b and ota'd to 12b. I'm going to try 23c to see if I get the no nav buttons or the wifi issues.

Update Verizon LG G3 to Rooted 23C without loosing data

Follow these steps exactly! You need to be rooted on either 23A or 23B and have TWRP installed for this method to work:
1. Install TWRP on either 23A or 23B. Files and instructions are located in the TWRP.zip found here: (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B242Uc2pXPrFNVZqS0NERlZVbk0/view?usp=sharing)
2. Download these Files: (http://www.mediafire.com/download/van5o52qg62wc7v/system.rar) (http://www.mediafire.com/download/bao418emmtwqqh6/boot.img) (http://www.mediafire.com/download/63498hyogrxyhhg/modem.img)
3. A. Make a new folder on your internal sdcard called: flash2
B. Download and place Flash2System.zip, Flash2Boot.zip and Flash2Modem.zip on your phone. Internal sdcard.
C. Stick system.img, boot.img and modem.img into the /sdcard/flash2/ folder. Files must be named system.img, boot.img and modem.img
D. Create backup's in TWRP.
E. In TWRP, flash Flash2System.zip and/or Flash2Boot.zip and/or Flash2Modem.zip to install your updated images.
F. If you have flashed a stock system.img you will need root. After the flash completes press Reboot System and TWRP will ask if you want root. Go thru the process in TWRP then reboot. After booting you may have a notification to finalize root. Few more clicks and you're rooted... it's that easy. No more worrying if root is patched in the latest OTA update... or having to undo everything you changed in stock so that the OTA doesn't brick you.
Flash2*.zip didn't work? Make sure your system/boot/modem.img files are in the /sdcard/flash2/ folder. Internal sdcard!
4. Don't reboot. Flash Skydragon Kernel. (https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934551694)
5. Bam! Now you have the 23c update on your Verizon LG G3 with root.

Yes. Install JasmineROM 7.0.

You are not wrong. I wanted to make a tutorial including these instructions for update to 23C. I give all credit to respected makers of these files and methods.
Wish I would have seen this before screwing up my data.
Is there any way to fix? Can I downgrade to 23B with success?
Is this referring to losing data on 5.1 AOSP ROMs after updating to 23C?

I haven't used strictly AOSP ROMS since going form Jas6 to Jas7 improperly.
Yes, it does reference losing data and remaining on 23C. I'd like to downgrade so as to restore data accessibility.

also, being on any stock L has nothing to do with the data issues present in 5.1 aosp.

Use the KDZ file for the 23C update in the LG flash tool and it will put you back to stock 23C. All your data will be wiped so be careful.

There is no way to get the data back. If you are on Mac you can use Paralles with Windows 7 to do the KDZ method.
all this time I thought it was data connetion this thread was about. it's actually about keeping your info. sorry and thanks or the help offered.

[Q] VS98524B Stock rooted Verizon question

Hey everyone,
I was able to root my LG G3 with the help of the XDA forms so I figured maybe someone could help me out here. I am running the STOCK Verizon Rom that came with the phone. I wanted to know if there is a customer kernal I can install to improve battery life and/or if anyone knows the good Tricker Mod settings to set up so the battery life improves, that would be helpful as well.
Thanks for the help everyone.

You will need to install TWRP to install a custom kernel.
I am running Jasmine ROM 8.0 with the Skydragon 4.2 Kernel with great battery life.
Great. Thank you. I was able to install twrp and installed sky dragon
Kernel to my Verizon stock Rom. Seems to be doing just fine ☺

Can I ask what method you used to root after 24B update? I have tried a few different methods I found on XDA and all of them just hang at the part where it should push root to the phone. Thanks.

Besides using the root method @quadjacks linked to below, just wanted to make sure you know that in order to root 24B, you have to come from a string of at least two OTAs. In other words, if you at any time flashed the 23C KDZ, then after you take the 24B OTA, you won't be able to root the phone, at least that's our experience.
You will be able to root it (not using the one-click but the one @quadjacks links to) if you flash the 12B KDZ, then OTA to 23C, then OTA to 24B.

For most people who have tried and reported back, including myself several times and with all the root methods I could think of, that didn't work, but a couple of people have reported being able to root after OTAing from 23C.

I'm aware of that, too - I posted the link to it, but I haven't had the inclination to flash it and try rooting after. I won't be surprised since the first method I mentioned in the previous message, flashing the 23C KDZ and taking the OTA, then trying to root, didn't work myself and several others that it won't work for me with flashing the 24B KDZ directly, but I'm just speculating. I'm sure I'll attempt it again when I have a need to reset to completely stock unrooted again unless by that time I'm in too much of a hurry to take another new OTA that may come and try to root that first.

I was able to root after flashing the 24B KDZ. The root.bat did not work (hung on the installing root part). But I was able to do option 2 and manually push the files and install root with one minor change. The first time I ran the Send_Command to push root it hung, I did a ctrl-C on it then ran it again right after and it went through. Then I did the send_command reboot and the phone rebooted and was rooted when it came up. I did this a couple of times and had the same results every time, first send_command would hang and I had to break out of it (ctrl-c) the send_commands after that worked fine. Not sure why that is but that is what worked for me. Just wanted to share in case anyone is having the same problem.
And then after rooting 24B, how to install TWRP??? I tried and got the Security Error message. Help would be appreciated.

Just to present another option, in the Play Store, search for:
Code:
autorec VS985
It'll install TWRP v2.8.6.x and downgrade your bootloader, which you can then update TWRP to the latest from within the "old" version.

Need to check if I have the 24B...... and Thanks!!
I spent the greater part of the evening trying to root my LG G3 VS985 unsuccessfully, but I don't recall if it is the 24B. I got it off eBay to upgrade my current RazrHD which is hopelessly underpowered - but it is rooted, and didn't want to lose my unlimited data plan on VZW. Need to mark this thread for all the helpful comments.
The methods of rooting I tried were the One-Click, both the gui and the CLI script with similar results of hanging trying to "see" the device, I tried PurpleDrake, but I think it is for a different LG or android version, and there was one other method that I got from a link either here on XDA or another android forum, but all seemed to have the same problem - once you connect the phone, it initially tries to connect to the device, but never succeeds, just keeps you waiting for the root push to start, but it never does. I was using a Win-7 PC and laptop, switching back and forth to see if I could get one of them to work........ Of course, I have the developer option enabled and turned on the USB debugging. I really like this LG G3 and want to get this thing rooted!!
The other root method I tried was ioroot; I checked my folders. Further reading seems to indicate I may be SOL unless I want to wait for someone to figure it out; oh, yeah, and I tried towelroot as well, but it only tells me my device is not supported........I plan to try one more root method - stumproot, and see if it can bruteforce it. If not, will be a sadder day.......

Ok-Full specs on my LG G3 that I want to root....
Running android 5.0.1
Build: LRX21Y
Software Version: VS985 23C
Went back and looked at some of the info and it can be confusing; some root progs need certain version of android running, on a certain set of builds and proper software versions........ enough to make you want to start drinking...... Going to go back one more time and see what I can do to organize all this disparate info and make some more sense out of it. On the plus side, since I have the 32GB version/model, it has 3GB RAM which I confirmed, and even though I have a ton of junky bloat stuff running that I can't currently stop, the phone is running like a champ.
Doesnt work

I used autorec to flash twrp on my 24b LP VZW G3. That was successful. Then booted to recovery...made a backup... then flashed twrp 2870 img, then booted recovery... then booted system and it went to LG bootlogo with Security Error message.
I'd really love to get this straightened out if possible. Would appreciate any advice and help.

I apologize for the misinformation! I realized earlier after reading what some others had said that in all the testing I had done regarding 24B that I had actually NOT run autorec on 24B, or at least not *just* autorec. To fix your phone, download and flash JasmineROM 8.0. If you felt adventurous, all you really need out of the JasmineROM 8.0 zip is the bootloader (aboot.img) and possibly the kernel (boot.img) too. The changes to the bootloader and possibly the kernel too are what get rid of the security error with TWRP installed.
