WiFi Tether app on Honor5x - Honor 5X Questions & Answers

Hello everyone. I was finally able to root my H5X, and the first app I tried was WiFi Tether paid app. Everything checked out fine, but after enabling it, i still can't seem to find the network. Any ideas? Or has anybody tried yet and has success?

If you are on AT&T you may need to be rooted and delete a folder in system/app called ATTEntitle. It should fix Hotspot in 3rd party tether app or (Free) Native Android Hotspot in settings. If you are on another carrier I don't know. I have been trying to get none working for a while. See here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3307384

I'm on T-Mobile. I have the grandfathered $80 unlimited 4g LTE with 7gbs hotspot. And I'm rooted. Busybox installed.

I think you CAN use Native Android Hotspot in instead of 3rd party tether but you need to change your "tether APN" to default "internet APN."
Maybe this thread can help http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...lopment/unrestricted-tethering-n920t-t3188301 But if you Try this you will want to monitor your data usage on T-Mobile website (or however you keep track). You don't want to run out of "tether data" if you can prevent it.

I tried using native hotspot last night and it worked great. Streamed about 4 movies last night. Verified my T-Mobile account this morning and I can confirm that my wifi hotspot shows 7.9mb/7GBs.

This is what my account shows

Very nice, so just using the app alone has stopped the tethering number from climbing?

Those with unlimited data plans do not get free tethering, it is blocked and requires you to pay for it.

There is always the chance of bricking when you flash anything. The universe could decide your house no longer needs power in the middle of the flash and you could be in a world of hurt because of it. Not likely though. Many (including myself) have flashed using this method with outstanding success. And as for advantages. Root is what I needed to get wifi tethering to work, remove bloatware, and run many purchased apps that required root.
I posted this earlier but will post it again for how I achieved wifi tethering:
"Just got flawless wifi tether running with TrevE's modded wifitether.
Can be found in his original post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988735
I used the WifiTether-TrevE_Mod_11_22_2012_driverReload2
My settings:
Device Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup Method: Netd-NDC (master)
Send Netd Max Client Cmd - Checked
Wifi-driver reload 2 - Checked
Routing fix - Checked"
Happy rooting!

Not true at all.
I have unlimited and i use portable hotspot which bypasses the VZ activation and I've never been charged.
The WiFi Tether - TrevE Mod method did not work for me.
However, this simple little app does work:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kr.core.technology.wifi.hotspot&hl=en
I guess the authentication system used by Verizon isn't all that robust, if all you need is a simple app that doesn't even require root to bypass the subscription check and start the native WiFi tethering. Heh.
I have this issue nonstop.. It's random and annoying..
I've gone an hour or two without problems and then all of the sudden 4g icon disappears and comes back over and over until I stop tethering and restart it.. and then it happens immediately.. If I keep restarting tethering eventually it will hang on without dropping out but it will start it's crap again eventually.
I could have sworn Trev-E caused the phone to do the same thing. I want to say the issue is the phone and or the radio firmware.. possibly the kernel?

Is there a thread on how to set it up properly to work on the VZW note2? It always crashes for me when I try to start it up.
These settings for TrevE Mod have worked perfectly for me on Vzw since the first day I rooted. Also, make sure you have the right version from 11/22/2012 and uninstall any old versions, apparently it does not upgrade very well. Good luck.
Profile: Galaxy s3
Set up method: Netd-ndc (master)
Check send netd
Check wifi Encryption
Channel 01
Check Wifi Driver reload 2
Check Routing fix
Using native wifi tether on cleanrom 4.2.5 works great and yea unlimited data plan

im referring to the tethering & portable hotspot. not the third party app
No it hasn't been hacked yet to bypass the check.
You used to be able to use the app "power toggles" I don't know how ir did it, but, when you used the hotspot toggle, it just turned on the naitive hotspot app and didn't check for subscription. Didn't even need root. I tested this one day at a haw store. Installed power toggles on like 8 of the display phones and turned on the hotspots, no security , with ssids like "free internet!" , "vzw free hotspot" and so on
Worked on all models lol

I used to use an app called WiFi Tether Router, but since I upgraded to lollipop, I've lost root and can't use it.
Yeah use wifi teether router.
You need to setup a new apn and set it as ivp4
And just activate it. If you don't have the unlimited data plan it won't work. It uses your unlimited data as the wifi

Wifi Tether Router

The app works and I changed the mobile settings to ipv4..it still is using the hotspot data..does any one have all the correct settings? Thank you and thanks to all the developers for their great work.

I have been noticing that on the lg g4 and now the v10 that mobile my account shows small usage of mobile data but not the actual amount I used. I might just be a mobile thing. Not quite sure but I too saw the same thing. But I also watched a week's worth of anime on my laptop via router and only was a 20mb increase in hotspot usage.
What are your mobile settings and the app settings? Thanks

I used all the same as the stock apn except I changed to ipv4...I assume you're rooted. Did you turn off the wifi scan setting under wifi?
Yes, I'm rooted and the scanning is off. I have even emailed the developer of the app. His last response was that I need a vpn.
There must be some sneaky software tracking whether you have tethering enabled. My Hotspot Data is being used/throttled no matter if I'm behind a VPN or tethering to another Android phone.
I'm rooted, removed all of the suspicious looking system apps, and set the APN settings to what I've always used before. I'm at the point of giving up and probably just going to use another phone to tether until a stable custom ROM is released.
I used to have this problem on my old Note 4 where the WiFi Tether app was working perfectly but Tmo was still tracking my data usage. The workaround that I found was to connect to a private VPN on my laptop. I used Private Internet Access to hide my IP and then I was able to tether off my phone with Tmo no longer capturing data used. I'm not sure if it will work on my new v10 though since I haven't gotten around to rooting it yet. I think there's a free Google Chrome extension that will do that same thing and for free. I forgot the name, sorry.
On my note 3 the guide I followed said I had to change the build file in a couple spots and then it worked perfect if that helps u guys out at all I really want this but can't use a vpn bc ps4 won't allow it with online gaming and my phone all I got out here in the woods

WiFI Tether/hotspot Options

Hello everyone,
I am trying to gain some general knowledge about the current state of tethering on android in general but more specifically for my situation on a unlimited data plan on Verizon on a Samsung S4 i545. I'm currently at Android 5.0.1 on OF1.
From what I have gathered so far there are two basic ways of doing wifi tethering these days.
1) Mod the built in tethering application so not to check with Verizon for the tethering plan.
2) Install an app that uses it's own or iptables type of network routing to do the tethering.
3) tethering apps that don't need root (ie FoxFi)
First off if there are more options that I'm not aware of please let me know.
I would like to "fly under the radar" as much as possible being that I'm on a grandfathered unlimited plan. This leads me to believe that using a app that does routing would be a better option. I have tried many of the free apps in the app store and most do not work with my setup.
I believe the following apps are apps that actually do routing.
"WiFi Tether Router", "WiFi Tethering by OpenGarden", "Barnacle WiFi Tether", "WiFi tether" (also known as Wireless tether for Root Users or android-wifi-tether)
I have root but I can't get any of these to work. (with the exception of WiFi Tether Router as I haven't actually tried that app because it's a pay app)
Other options are installing mods that modify the built in app tether app like
I545_OF1_tetherAddOn.zip
And last the option of running an app like FoxFi that doesn't require root. and looks like it is using some kind of VPN to get around tethering? not sure how this works or where it stands but I think it's also using the built in tethering app and just somehow bypassing the Verizon server that checks for a tethering subscription.
if anyone could help shed some light on how these apps are working I could then decide at what level of exposure I was comfortable with. As of right now and my limited knowledge of how they work I think an app like WiFi Tether Router (if it works would be worth the purchase)
Thanks,
Chris

You should look for the WiFi Tether Router paid app apk online, i have the same problem with WiFi Tether, and also flashed the I545_OF1_tetherAddOn.zip and still no result, so I'm going to look for the app's downloadable apk link and share it with you, I'm also going to try it ☺☺

I'm wondering what can help us with WiFi Tethering too, so I tried a lot of apps and methods and nothing worked, the only tethering I was able to get was USB with FoxFi, tbh works really nice, even better than my home internet, I'm foreign so I cannot enjoy 4g on this phone but still got a pretty much decent speed, it's not WiFi tether but it doesn't bother me because works really nice. Still will try to find any other alternative to get WiFi tether but for now FoxFi USB tether seems to be our best option
thanks for getting back to me on this.
Again I'm not just looking for a solution to my specific situation but rather trying to gather information on how the different methods and approaches work. I feel as if I only have a slight understanding of how each approach works. I'm pretty curious to what all the VPN stuff is about that some of the non root apps are doing.
WiFi tether router by Fabio works also for USB tethering KLINK works with option "mimic mobile device" set to on both paid for apps.
A little feedback about Foxfi:
I didn't wanted to connect my galaxy to the pc so I decided to try WiFi tethering and it worked! just follow the instructions it gives you and it will work, if you wanna change WiFi name or password do it from Foxfi, default tether manager just turn off tether and doesn't change anything
Thanks mahn
