[Mod][App] Themed stock apps - Red Gloss - MTCB Software Development

Well after years away from modding and skinning I decided to give it a go again.
Apps themed are Bluetooth, Movie, DVD, Music and Radio. Works on both 800x480 and 1024x600. I have already themed my own framework-res and settings so stay tuned for pretty much a full system theme. There is also a blue gloss version which should be ready tomorrow.
DOWNLOAD - HERE
To install:
Use Root Explorer or something similar.
Back up existing apk's that you are going to replace.
Copy new apps into system/apps
Then set permissions for each apk to 644
Reboot and hopefully you should be good to go.
A HUGE thanks to m4f1050 for testing before release.

Looks good!

Nice work Goose. Look good on my unit

This is a MUST if you have RED (and the Blue Gloss if you have BLUE) interior dash lighting!!! Definitely the BEST looking themed apps, including Settings and Framework (soon!)

All I have done is change images, I haven't changed anything that would affect physical buttons.
All I can suggest is replace the original apk's and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, replace one of my themed apk's, just one then see if the problem occurs. If it doesn't then replace another apk with one of mine and check the button again and so on. If you discover which apk is causing the problem try wiping the cache and settings for that apk to see if it fixes the problem.
These themed apk's have all been tested with not problems at all by m4f1050 and he has a RK3188 1024x600 unit and tested by me and I have a RK3188 800x480 unit.

after two more days, now nav button also results in softbricking, guess some problem with the rom installation itself,
I tested out after installing rom , it worked fine, then I set up all my apps and other stuff now this happens:crying:
need to figure out a way last option being re-installing the rom

Worked great on all but newest rom. ( march 16)
I can't seem to get mtcmusic to change to the red theme. It says app not installed when I try to do it manually.
Any idea's?
Tried installing as is, no luck.
Tried copying over to aps folder setting permissions and rebooting and no luck
All the other apk's did work. radio, bluetooth, video etc...
Thanks

check the filenames in system/app sometimes they change

Ok so rename the red theme apk(s) to whatever the new mtc music app is called, copy over to sys/aps, set permission, and reboot?
Maybe Malaysk has a new name for the default music app and i didn't notice earlier.
Ill give it a try.

Sometimes it will have a different number at the end of the filename, it might still be MTCMusic#.apk but haven't installed the new ROM yet so I am just guessing.

Just finished messing around with it and it was a mater of removing the original, renaming the red theme apk and putting it into the sys/app folder as mtcmusic4.apk
reboot and it works.
Also the others work as well.

Strangest thing but my icons on the left are not colored like yours, just white. Any idea why? Same thing w/ the blue skin.
Thanks

I think somewhere down the line I uploaded old versions so that might be why some icons are white. I've been in the process of tweaking everything, the new versions will be uploaded tonight.

[MOD] Native trackball colors... Official!! [3-16]

For anyone who missed it, Google open sourced the official lights and sensor libs. Attached is the update.zip with official colorful LED lib. It's just about functionally identical to mine, but they have some better color mapping, and the white is finally white! Just flash from recovery and enjoy.
Special thanks go out to lilHermit, his app gave me a lot of insight into the LEDs, and metalhead8816 for helping me through some tough code, and Google for releasing the official code.
Root is required...
This is how it works:
- Screen on: incoming whatever - one white flash
- Screen off: notification - one white flash, then colored flash
- SMS, Gmail - green
- Missed call, twidroid - cyan
- Incoming call - rapid white flashing
- Incoming call while on bluetooth - rapid blue flashing
** Please read **
This file offers no customization because it's only an interface. What this file does is allow apps and the system to set the color and blink rate of the trackball and the trackball obeys.
Also, I cannot guarantee support for Desire roms. I know nothing about how the Desire is supposed to handle notifications. If HTC didn't try to do something fancy (read: stupid) with the notification code, then this will work as advertised. I have no plans to use or test this on a Desire ROM myself.
Attached is a real update.zip that I made myself. No waiting this time. Flash from recovery and let me know what you think.
ChainsDD said:
I pieced together a new led driver that shows colors on the trackball. Everything seems to work as advertised and it should work on any ROM.
It's being pulled into CM, so if you run that, you could probably wait for the next release if you want.
Other than that you can grab the .so here and push it to /system/lib/hw. It requires a reboot to take effect.
Note: This is not an update.zip. I'm too tired to put one of those together. just extract lights.mahimahi.so and push it with adb. or someone else can make an update.zip

thanks for the hard-work it'll be great to have the trackball work the way it should have from start. I put together an update.zip but its my first time putting one together just kinda edited and re-signed another zip file i had, i flashed it myself it didn't have any errors and seems to be working but standard disclaimers apply make a backup flash at your risk im not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.
updated the file its the new one 2/22
edit i forgot that there was issues with the screen being on and color changing properly the zip works fine
edit removed zip to prevent confusion

Awesome!!! Thank you!!!!
How do we change the values for different situations, (calls, sms, email etc...)???
this is awesome!!! Thanks so much
How do you mess with the different colors or can you not do that?
are there any options or something to mess around with? I don't notice much of a difference. Rather than 2 white pulses, I get a pinkish flashing. anyway to adjust?
Tested. Works fine.
I might sound dumb but how can I tweak the colors? Right now it blinks pinkish on startup but i hate pink
My guess is that the color is specified in the program itself, the same way that a LED notification light would get it's color.
But hey, at the moment the pink flashing matches nicely with the Carebear recovery released earlier today...

Colors shown are up to the apps that send the notifications. So far I know that email and sms are green, and twidroid is light blue.
I just put together a fix for the pink, stand-by for that

[MOD] I9000 *matte* skin and accurate battery *10/5/2010*

First and foremost, this would not have originally been possible without all the hard work zimphishmonger and the3dman13 did to bring fighspit's original battery mod to the vibrant, please see the original thread here, and give them some thanks! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756441
I'm also borrowing zimphishmonger's warning, as i think it works to keep warning messages standard across all these battery mod threads.
WARNING: ALWAYS make a nandroid backup prior to installing any modification, including this one. You are making the decision to install this on your own, and I am not responsible for anything nuclear that may happen to your device.
UPDATE.. I lost count (10/5/2010)
So I dig Eugene's Frankin-twiz rom's, but I still want to keep my accurate battery mod, and well, I think his glossy-black skin is ugly. I also think the stock vibrant touchwiz skin is ugly (for the love of all that's holy samsung, why did you decide the vibrant would be the ONLY galaxy s phone to get your stupid glossy version of touchwiz?!)
So, I ported my battery mod to frankin-twiz and at the same time, ripped all the matte (non glossy) drawable's from the I9000 touchwiz skin, and added in my colored status/signal, mms, calendar, music player, and gmail icons, restored the black background for the power control widget, added HTC's weather icons to GenieWidget.apk, changed to the stock I9000 bootup and shutdown animation and sounds, and of course, I probably missed something else too, lol. You can see some (semi-outdated) screenshots here: http://picasaweb.google.com/113127051130934911253/AndroidStuff?feat=directlink
Also, if you find yourself being a typography nerd like me, you can use this zip to switch the default system font to Comfortaa I take NO CREDIT WHATSOEVER for making the original font, or the android port, I only re-packaged the files into a Clockwork-mod zip file for the vibrant. This will also change the lockscreen clock font to comfortaa, but ONLY if using the default android lockscreen.
Comfortaa system fonts: http://www.4shared.com/file/hYu1TYHL/Comfortaa_system_fonts_ONLY.html
New for ftwiz_final: I'm including an extra version with the samsung calendar AND the AOSP mms app, per Eugene's thread, since it resolves issues with being unable to send sms/mms messages. I'm also including the newest version of my battery mod (this is the version I personally like best and use daily), based on the upright/vertical icons, but with colored borders/outline, and a smoother charging animation (thanks to untermensch!) This can be applied on its own, after you flash either of the other versions. If flashed without flashing one of the other versions first, it DOES NOT contain the gmail/calendar/mms/music player icons, or the startup & shutdown animations and sounds. You can see a screenshot added to the post below too.
Download links here, ftwiz_final ONLY:
Removed, sorry, too many people use other people's work without giving credit, and it leads to way too many headaches, he-said/she-said, ignorance, etc.
Everything should flash via clockwork recovery fine, place the zip on the root of your INTERNAL /sdcard directory, reboot into clockwork, I recommend wiping the cache & dalvik-cache, then install zip from sdcard, locate the specific zip, reboot.
Enjoy, cheers everyone, and if you come in here posting bugs/whining for help without first making sure you cleared your cache and dalvik-cache, then I'm just going to ignore you,
Looks Great!!!
Thanks alot works well on my phone
i love it! not a big fan of the round battery icon, so this is great
Great work! Glad to see everyone is making their own customized battery images. We are gonna have a battery collection soon.
just a quick update to the OP with a new version with some colored/themed status icons.

I did, switched from the green circle. The battery indicator works fine.
I used the circle one but saw this with the other colored icons and thought they were cool. Seems that they don't quite work properly. Stock the GPS indicator shows in the notification bar any time it's on. With the new icons from the op the indicator is only on if I'm in an app that is using the GPS. I'm going to flash back to stock then to the battery only mod (i figure I need to to switch the other icons?)

Hi,
Thanks for trying it out. I have no idea how there might be issues since this is literally just img replacement from the segmented green circular battery mod, so however icons should work with that mod, is how they should work with this mod.
Maybe run a fix permissions from rom manager and see if that helps?
Also, my GPS icon has never worked like you described, even stock, (in other words, mine isn't always visible in notification bar, even when not in an app actively using gps, its displayed only when using an app that needs GPS, and disappeared when exiting the app.)
If you want to try and modify your own framework-res.apk with these files, I may upload just my png images once I'm done replacing/coloring all the icons I feel like modifying.
Thanks again for trying it out though, cheers
Lastly, I got bored and colored the wifi icons, cell-signal icons, and vibration indicator icon, I'll post the framework-res.apk in the first post, but won't package a new update.zip until I decide I'm done modifying icons, lol.

Hey again,
Glad I wasn't screwing up phone's, lol.
Anyway, I'm still working on changing all the icons, can't seem to decide where to stop yet, since now I've started modifying icons for other apps, gmail, mms, google voice, trillian, etc. And of course, now that I've gone with a slightly brighter green in the other icons, I may go back and tweak the color of my battery icon to match.
Anyway, here's a screenshot of some of the icons I'm mostly finished with (though for some reason I'm not digging the alarm icon, anyone have color suggestions for it?)

Yeah...sorry about that. Anyway I hate that stupid icon to begin with so maybe something totally different? I did a GIS for alarm clock icon and there are a lot of possibilities. I think that maybe the stock one with a red square and white clock could be good.

If you don't already have it, I suggest you install Koush's Clockwork Recovery. You can install it quickly by using ROM Manager.
Once you boot into the recovery ROM, you can back up your entire phone using Nandroid (highly advised) and then you're free to experiment to your heart's content.
Now back to your question: you can save the file to your internal SD card and search for it using the 'Install from SD' (or something like that) option in the Clockwork ROM, install it and reboot.
Good luck, friend.
What's the right way to revert this? framework-res.apk restore?
Updated OP with newest mod.
I think I'm done with this for a while now, though I might zip all the png files if someone else wants to try and make this into a morph when the app gets updated.

Hi,
Yes, restoring your backed-up framework-res.apk will restore the battery mod. If you used the newer zip that also includes the Gmail icon mod, then you'll need to restore Gmail.apk too /system/app too.

Replacement SystemUI.apk v2: Permanent back and menu buttons, n as Home button

I have been tweaking the SystemUI application, changing the way a few things work.
Installation Instructions
Download View attachment SystemUI.apk
Make sure /system is remounted R/W. This can be done with Root Explorer or ES File Explorer. If you get a "Read-only filesystem" error this is the step you missed.
Replace /system/app/SystemUI.apk with the downloaded one.
At this point it is normal for the status bar to disappear. If it starts Force Closing repeatedly, pasting again should stop it so that you can continue to fix the permissions.
Make sure the file is owned by the root user and group.
Make sure the permissions of the file are 644, or read, write for user and read for group and other.
Reboot and enjoy!
I plan on adding killing the current application by long-tapping the back button like CyanogenMod. I can probably add other tweaks if requested.
Changelog
Version 2:
No more QuickNav bar when you press the n button
n button acts like a standard Home button
Version 1:
Permanent back and menu buttons
Hm.. seems to be an early beta... we're trying to work the kinks out of it... but it seems to have some problems right now. (When does anyone release anything right the first time?)
----
I've got it, and it all works as advertised now. I'm rolling it into my update-package, and yay. ... I really need to find a way to get this package out there...
Whoops, forgot Certs the first time around. Download the attachment again, this new one should work great!
Thanks for that. I tested it in settings and no back button! (permissions changed)
Edit: Now it works. This is great! Thanks
Great idea! Have you though about changing the default icons for the status bar?
That is extremely easy to do, but I don't have much artistic talent, so I'm not going to make them from scratch. What would you like to see replaced?

I've had lots of fun in the past replacing most icons with those like the Suave HD Redone pack on my Epic 4g. I'll probably wind up doing the same on here.
Here's a link to the forum post. He originally did it for MIUI but you can rip out the icons and put them in any ROM/Launcher.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330577
So far works great! If you could manage the book button as a home button, I could stop using button savior. Is that possible?

Check the first post again. The n button acts like the Home button now.
after using your SystemUI.apk, my n button has completely stopped working. i simply just did as you said in your post "replace the SystemUI.apk". I am now stuck with not being able to use the n button for anything. Any ideas on how to get it to work correctly? are there any permissions or anything that i need to set?
That usually happens when it's initially replaced. Have you tried rebooting? How are you replacing it?
All the apk's in that directory are chmod 644, but it works for me 666. They also should be owned by root.
Please add a version number or a date on thread header text. So we can better see when an update is available.

yea i rebooted a few times and it still didn't work. my last attempt seems to have solved the problem i was having, i had to change permission for owner all three of them needed to be checked (read, write, and execute). Seems to be working now but I'll have to test it a bit more. Thanks for the reply.
I actually backed up the original one anyways so I could have simply just replaced it again to revert back, but it seems to be working for the time being
Well, seems like everything is working like it should for the time being...
Which buttons are the menu and back permanent buttons? are you talking about the ones on the status bar? I don't really see any changes because they were always there to begin with...

yea i rebooted a few times and it still didn't work. my last attempt seems to have solved the problem i was having, i had to change permission for owner all three of them needed to be checked (read, write, and execute).
I don't really see any changes because they were always there to begin with...

i didnt backup my systemUI my mistake very noobish
can you upload your old one if you dont mind
EDIT
Nevermind i got it off the 1.4.0
acclaim update
Also, thankyou Indirect for all your hardwork!
for some reason, ever since replacing the systemui.apk, my nt sometimes blacks out, as in its still on but i am just left with a black screen. anyone else encounter this? i am going to change my permissions to what indirect posted and see if that changes anything.
and @promek: i guess i can upload my original systemui.apk when i figure out how to upload stuff and post it here on xda...
@revcompgeek What did you use for apk editing, metamorph, ninjamorph or another?

No Need, I have replaced it and reverted back with the one from the acclaim update for 1.4.0

Custom SystemUI

It worked with all the updates til now? Anyway to get it working?
SystemUI, probably just got some updates. Have you tried adding your .pngs to the new systemui.apk? Still no go?

I was running the blue soft keys and now when I put them back in sytem/app I get force closes and the entire nav bar disappears. Any ideas? I really hate the skinned look Asus puts on them. Thanks in advance.
Swiftks hit the nail on the head, there were some changes to the SystemUI that breaks older versions. (I know, captain obvious over here) Give the developer of the theme a chance to update the PNG files, or do it yourself. I ran into the same problem yesterday and copying the PNG files I wanted into the new SystemUI.apk fixed it.
I'm not sure how to do that. The nav keys I was using are just stock ICS blue. If you or anyone happens to have a link to some I could use with the updated files that would be fandamntastic. I can't seem to find the thread where I downloaded them from. I know they were on XDA but I've been searching since yesterday. Thanks again

Make sure to copy to correct folder, and select "store" for the compression method, that way they are not compressed.

Yes, I am putting the file in system/app and the file is not compressed. I've done this with each of the updates and now it doesn't work. I was thinking it may be because Asus added the lock function to the nav bar. Once again if anyone has another file they could point me too that would be awesome. I can't find the thread that I got my ICS blue buttons from.

[Q] Landscape Rosie

If I pull the rosie.apk out of a rom that has the landscape homescreen mode working and put it in my system/app folder and change permissions will that allow my phone to go into landscape or are there other changes that need to be made?
I am running the Fresh rom atm and it's the only thing bugging me.
Thanks.

It depends on if you are running a deodexed version of the ROM currently. If yes, then, it should work as you described. If it is still ODEXED, then, no it won't.

Thanks, I did see that but I didn't like the idea of another app running in the background when I could just change one out. If I wasn't unlocked and rooted I would use that.
In case anyone wants it I pulled the .apk out of flex360's rom. Thanks flex360.
This, I believe, also has the ultrasmooth mod.
If posting this is against the rules or whatever let me know and I'll remove it. Just thought it would save people having to download a 500+mb rom if they are running a deodex rom and want the landscape rosie.
I kind of thought this would make the lockscreen rotate too but it doesn't... I have my phone sitting on the kickstand at work and I turn it on to look at the weather on the lockscreen which is why I originally wanted it rotated.

either this apk doesn't play well with viper, or I installed it wrong. I dropped it in /system/app and set permissions, but just got a black screen on reboot. Luckily, I was able to install apex from the play store from my computer, and once that installed, I was able to launch root explorer and change back to the backup rosie.apk I made before I pushed the new one. How are you supposed to install this?
Weird. Maybe some roms have changes not compatible or something. I did exactly what you did and it worked fine for me on the fresh 5.1.1 rom. I just renamed my original and put this one in system>app and changed permissions. After a reboot it worked.
I assume you meant system>app.

eh - if it really bothered me, I'd ask about it in the viper thread. Definitely weird though.

Possible, but I don't know what else to try. Root explorer's pretty basic when it comes to cutting and pasting files.

you might be right, but it's smooth enough for me
If its still odexed first delete the Rosie.odex file in root explorer then place your new Rosie in there. If you have modified the Rosie make sure it is signed. Signature verification has not been disabled in any of the roms that are out I don't believe.

I agree with Flex360. I'm an Android nub learning slowly here. Tried a few of the new roms and his is just...ultra smooth.
Crazy good battery life too, do the one click root. Then install and you are g2g.
Thanks Flex! I can't post on developer yet, 8 more posts! woot.

I really do like his rom but i want the menu mod. If i flash the menu mod i lose the power menu mod and maybe something else...not sure. It's hard to choose, lol. I'm glad we have so many cool ROM options.
