app drawer addition? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

I saw in a review that LG's new UI has removed the app drawer. Does anyone think that when we get custom ROMs we will get the re-addition of the app drawer in "stock based" ROMs?

Just use a launcher as nova, and the drawer is back
Envoyé de mon SM-G925F en utilisant Tapatalk

That's the way Android is headed. Android N is rumoured to be this way too.
You could use a 3rd party launcher. Too early to say what (if any) custom ROMs will be. No word on bootloader yet as far as I know.

It has an app drawer. It has two launchers.

I think it may have been disabled in the apk. I need to look to lghome.apk published kdz.

Thanks for the heads up.

They haven't removed the app drawer, just disabled it and left out the possibility to turn it on. Easy home have been available as an option at least on the the g3 and the g4, but it's not something you would want to use. Icons are larger, you can't choose widgets or customize it like the regular home. If you really want the app drawer back you will need to use a third party launcher like nova.

This is all correct. I'd like to add that if you find any LG widgets useful (I do, after using LG phones exclusively for years) then Nova will not let you use them, so in my opinion, still not a viable solution.

I agree. Nova is a great launcher and I used it on every Samsung earlier. But after I switched to LG their UX kind of grown on me with it's widgets, smart notice etc. Hopefully LG will implement an option to get the app drawer back before the release. Otherwise I don't think I'll be getting one before theirs a tweak that allows to switch it back on.

New info,
Download the LG Home 4.0 theme from the LG Smartworld app on G5 and it restores app drawer.
Where the F was LG on this. They need to get their sh*t out there so people know what's going on with their UI/UX.
They are murdering themselves with incompetency marketing wise.

If you want a app drawer everything you download put it in a folder and pow you have a app drawer

Awesome, just download and app drawer is back. I have to set my home screen up again but that's no big deal! Thanks!
FYI - LG Smartworld is loaded on your phone. Just open it in the LG folder and search on Home and it comes right up.

On the stock launcher, there is an LG Apps folder. It's in there. Download and install, then set it as your default launcher.

[Q] Phone not showing up in launcher?

Okay so I recently just flashed Ineffabilis-Deus v1.02 and am loving it. I had the phone icon in my dock and accidentally deleted it. I then went in to the app drawer to put it back on my home screen and could not find it. When I search it in google search, it comes up and I can launch it, but it just doesn't show up in my app drawer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

On stock there are some hidden apps and I used the app Any Cut to make shortcuts for them. Perhaps you can use that.
Those hidden apps were visible in ADW Launcher though, so if you have another launcher installed try that first.

I'm pretty sure they hide it because on a stock phone they have the phone tab on the home screen already. Just an idea.

Removing S Finder and Quick connect from Notification Panel?

I'm loving this phone, I came from a Galaxy S4 and it was definitely worth the upgrade, but the "S Finder" and "Quick connect" buttons in the notification drawer are bugging me since I have no intention of ever using either app. I looked through the settings and I didn't notice anything to disable this unlike how you can turn off the recommended apps (earphones). I already tried to see if you could turn the apps off in the application manager but it's not an option. Anyone figure out if this is possible?
They're bugging me, too.

Ya know I was kind of curious so I just looked it up and I think your right. I think that those buttons where removed in the at&t, sprint and verizon versions. (along with the download booster). They are in the international and the T-mobile versions though. I think that T-mobile is the only carrier which released the S5 with very little personal modifications of there own and therefor is almost identical to the international version (which is the one released direct from Samsung). That is probably also the reason why the international roms work on our phone. I think that all they did was just install there apps. Cool! T-mobile is getting better and better all the time.
Some reason I can't quote you on this app now, but anyways; I haven't gotten my hands on a AT&T version to verify it, but my buddy has a AT&T one so I called and asked if he had it and he said no, so it's hear say I guess lol
But that would be good if we could flash international on it

This is annoying me as well. I think those not yet able to craft their own ROMs (like me), are gonna need to wait. If you're feeling adventurous, you maybe try installing [ROM][G900F][4.4.2]-AllianceROM-OTA Nightlies (the F and T models are similar I believe) and providing the developers with feedback.
Edit: There's also the possibility that [APPS][4.1+] Google Experience Launcher (GEL App + Google Search App) will work, as described by the article How to get the Google Experience Launcher on the Galaxy S5 which I found via this post (go thank him if it works).

The difference between this app and editing the build.prop is that editing the build.prop makes ALL apps selectable in dual window mode, which also makes apps you would never ever want to use in dual window show up in the app selector pop-up.
This app enables or disables specific apps to be used for dual window mode so, when you press the dual window button, you don't have to scroll through every single app on your phone to select which two you want to share a screen. You only have to scroll through the apps you'd actually ever want to use for dual window.
That's why I prefer this app over editing the build.prop. It's a much cleaner solution.

It still has the benefit of enabling the apps you want to use in dual window available. However, if accessing through the multi tasking screen is your default behavior, it makes no difference which method you use to enable apps.
I just hated having a cluttered list on the G3 and preferred the same on my G4.

LG Calculator 5.30.2

This is the stock LG Calculator from the G-pad X 8.0 from the app updates section in settings. My wife has been wanting the LG calculator back since she got the LG G6, so I backed it up and sent it to her but it won't install on the G6, so tried it on my V20 and whatya know? It works fine, even the Qslide. Maybe give it a try and let me know how it works cause I also had a buddy try on his G6 and same thing, won't install, actually says "it's corrupt", so maybe it will only work on V20.

It worked on my v20...but kinda pointless since the v20 comes with a better looking calculator.

Well the google calc it comes with doesn't work in qslide--i actually prefer the LG one. I had an LG one imported from the G4 i think...this one is a later rev but can't tell the difference. Either way, newer is better--thanks for sharing! FYI, i'm on the tmob version H918 if you're keeping track of compatibility.

On your wife's phone, have you tried the trick with APK Editor (on the Play Store--does not require root)? Maybe they don't care which calculator they use.
Lg started using google calculator for some reason.. If the Lg calculator won't work/install, it's because you have to delete the google one from the system. The lg calculator has many more features than the google one. A lot of people prefer the lg calculator but most of us have had it installed since almost day one of the v20.
Yeah my H918 came with the Google calculator installed. Forgot to say we are on T-Mobile. I'll have to try the apk editor and see if that works.
The file downloaded and installed fine on my v20. Both this and Google Cal worked fine. I just like the look of the google Cal.
Thanks for the link and find.
While I prefer the looks of the LG calculator, the Google one that's included works in split screen while the LG one does not. I find this more useful than qslide, personally.

No root. It just works for me. There's a setting I'm the developer options to force all apps to be compatible in split screen. I didn't have it turned on so I dunno why my calculator works in split, but yours doesn't.
The setting is "force activities to be resizable"

I have calculator version 4.70.5 installed, taken from the G3. I shared it here a long time ago. Try to find that post and install that version and see if it works.

I can confirm the newer one does not work with multi window mode but the older one does. Kind of dumb. I tried using the developer options force mode and it still kept giving me the same message saying it wouldn't work. The older one I got from a G5 apps zip on XDA works just fine.
Help
Hi,
I try to install the lg calculator on my lg v20 910 and it doesn't work. I try the 5.30 APK with or without the APK editor, I deactivated the Google calculator and it doesn't work. I can't click on the install button
