THIS IS FOR PEOPLE ON THE CM13 ROM WHO STILL WANT THE ASUS CAMERA
Just for fun I decided to make a flashable Zip for the Asus PixelMaster camera and Gallery for the Zenfone 2 laser (only tested on Z00T).
This package differs from just installing the Asus camera in a few ways:
It allows for the manual mode to function (it won't work if you install it from something like apkmirror.com)
It includes the Asus stock gallery as well as burst functionality
It is the NEWEST version of the Camera app (apkmirror only has an older one)
I threw in the laser ruler just for fun
Flash the zip in your recovery. If you previously installed the Asus Camera already I would HIGHLY suggest you uninstall that version first.

Update: New flashable zip this time with Asus Splendid removed. I don't know why the heck I had it in there in the first place. If you have already removed splendid (deleting the system apk) this zip isn't necessary.
Also this will likely be discontinued in the near future as you can now install the Pixelmaster camera directly from the play store on CM13. It is still a slightly older version than this one though.

the camera works fine, but don´t save the photos...:crying:
It does save on my phone. It just does it on the internal storage.
here, when I take a photo, and go to gallery, it closes to home screen.
I go to gallery again, and nothing...
Awesome, thanks. One small problem, the app crashes when I try to take pictures with the front facing camera.

There is an update in the OP for a flashable zip that has removed the Splendid Apk. Sorry about having that in there in the first place.
Also You can save pictures to the external sd card. Upon first installing and launching the camera app, it will prompt you asking if you want to save to sd card. If you select yes it will save to external sd but in a weird location:
/microsd/Android/media/com.asus.camera/DCIM/Camera
microsd will be the name of you sd card. In my case is 689D-1613
It didn't go trough that setup routine in my case, same as when I install it from the store.
But it's cool anyway to have the Laser Ruler back - that's NOT to be found in the store

Hi guys, I just sold my Nexus 6P and I am looking for a cheaper phone that will work well with CM13. The Laser 2 ZOOT1 dual SIM is for sale on NewEgg for $199. How well does this phone run on CM13? Are the cameras using Asus firmware with the same quality as stock or is it the crappy CM camera? Thanks for the help

Answered your question in the CM13 thread. I bought mine from Newegg as well, and I haven't regretted it for a second. Well built phone with almost flagship tier specs. You'd be hard pressed to find a phone that packs as much bang for your buck as this one. If Asus had used a newer SoC instead of the SD615, this phone would be perfect. Still, the SD615 ain't no slouch either. It's handled everything I've thrown at it with ease. I highly doubt you could find a better phone at the $200 price point.
What's the best way to uninstall Splendid if I installed from the older file you provided?

as annoyed as i was at the zenui, there are a few apps i miss.
Will it work on Z00L or ZE550KL?
Problems that I found after flashing this:
1) Autofocus works but never turns green to state that the camera has already focused (it is also out of sync with the focus beep, beeps first before it finishes autofocusing)
2) Manual touch focusing never turns green and seems inaccurate or doesn't work
3) We can't save to sd card, the option in the settings is grayed out to Internal storage only
4) Video recording doesn't save the video anywhere (can't even find it in internal storage), it doesn't write anywhere after recording since my internal storage size remains the same after video recording.

I understand we have one or two different threads here, but I think this justified a new one, since as I'm sure all of you are aware, none of the Skype video calling apks have the rear facing camera truly working (there was one I tried that initialized the video, but did not transmit it to the other party).
I can CONFIRM that this apk by droidrx from the Android Development and Hacking forum that the com.skype.raider-2cam.zip works FLAWLESSLY for both the front AND rear facing cameras on the Evo 3D. I just completed a call with another Skype account on my laptop and audio both ways, and video works beautifully, in addition to switching the camers on/off and switching them back/fourth.
As always, uninstall any other versions of Skype first before installing this one. Make sure you thank droidrx for his work!

Are you asking if you want it to auto-connect when you have a data connection, and not when you don't? I'm sure the symbol thing you could probably find an app in the Market for.
I just keep it on. It'll show a Checkmark when you're online and connected, and an X when you're not.
Not sure if that's what you were exactly asking...you can probably go into Skype settings and mess with the options (notifications, go offline..etc.) and see if any of that helps. Just from the main Skype screen on your phone, tap menu and settings.
Any anyone besides the original poster verify this package?
its skype i'll verify that much. havent tested video yet.
but its still doing "reconnecting" with the symbol in the taskbar. my data is off. i unchecked sign in automatically. and i unchecked skype status. and i set it to go offline after 15 minutes.
but i still see the damn spinning icon there.
FYI, the linked post appears to be credible and have some users. I installed it on my 3VO and it launches ok, alas nobody is up at 1am for me to call so I can't test it at the moment.

The previous version of this that was out (46 I think it was?) worked for me, just the front cam of course. But what annoyed me was that it only worked in landscape which is awkward to hold. Does this version lock you to landscape too?

looks like both droidrx and theos0o are sharing their stuff. I don't know if the droidrx version that includes froyo support has any disadvantages, so i'm going to try theos0o version. i currently have working skype video with front cam only, and my video freezes after about 10 seconds. going to try the theos0o version and see how that goes. i'll post back
EDIT: theos0o's version works, I didn't get the rear camera working but will now attempt to tweak the settings. I get front camera freezing still, turning my video on then off fixes it, but annoying. will see if I can resolve and post back (anyone run into this or fix it yet? does droidrx version freeze after 10 seconds?)
EDIT 2: theos0o version fixed front camera freeze by changing resolution (use "force 320x240"). rear cam works by using resolution "force 320x240". sign in automatically setting works (don't need to enter password).
EDIT 3: there is one remaining bug I have. no fix for it, and I suspect it's going to exist no matter which version you use. i've detailed it here, hopefully they find a fix.

The test picture I took looked a lot better than the one I took with the stock Sony camera app.
I don't find any option where to save the picture. I want to save to the SD card.

Tested all functions, and nearly all is working. Only the panorama function is not working it always says i am too fast even if i move really slow.
Could not see a difference in quality between this app and stock, but i did not have so much problems with the quality on stock anyway.
Sometimes still focus problems like on stock (i think thats more a firmware issue than a problem with the camera app).

i tried to install this but i do always get a response saying application not installed. i'm a unrooted stock 1.284 firmware.
stars a few minutes, the test was increased image quality, noise reduction which do not need much tweaking. Do not get saved to the memory card

Works on my P10 VTR-L29C432B164 but I can't find any improvements, there isn't a manual mode and the HDR mode is complicate to use.
It does work until I go into settings. After that it immediatly crashes and reboot won't help.

For the peeps who are saying that it works, yes it works but there is no difference in the photo, I tried this app like five days ago and also tried with the latest release even tho I knew that it needs the snapdragon DSP to work, the app crashes if you change settings and choose limited plus the other recommendations that they give on the thread where they have the app. I tried all of the settings made several photos indoor and outdoor and it doesn't work it just takes the pictures like any other camera app would, it doesn't even have the HDR mode activated, a proof of that is that if you try to take a picture with the regular camera app on HDR and with the HDR+ activated from the app you can clearly see the difference of one that works on HDR and one that doesn't . Video recording also is broken on 60fps and slow motion as well. I uninstalled the app after a couple of days trying it out with every option possible . But the truth is "IT DOESNT PROVIDE ANY BENEFITS OVER THE REGULAR CAMERA APP" with out the HDR+ it's just as any other camera app out there. Honestly I been playing lots with the P10 camera app and have found that it truly is a great cam, I would recommend shooting in RAW mode and using Snapseed for editing. Plus Snapseed has some useful tips on how to improve your skills with photography.

It would be great to have something like hdr+, even if it's software-enabled, for our Huawei's camera. I have a P10 lite now, but my previous handset was a Nexus 5X, and hdr+ is the only thing I miss right now.
Crashes on startup on P10 Lite.
I can confirm that p10 Plus camera is working on p10. They are physically same size and with same connector. Not sure if there is any kind software limitations.

Before and after pictures aren't accurate because the suction cup moved and focus point is not on the same spot. Both pictures however are taken with same settings.
I still have the original p10 camera module. I'll take new before and after photos in few days.

Would be nice if you could post the full jpeg with EXIF. But here's my take on this. The LENS on the P10 Plus is still F1.8 and therefore allows more light to hit the sensor and enable to use lower ISO in low light, thus getting cleaner pictures. It doesn't really matter if it's recognized by the software as a new module. That must have been the thinking of Huawei when they designed it....if the only change the lens brightness, they don't need to change anything on the software, sensors or the module itself.
I'm ordering right now. It's cheap and the P10 is super easy to take apart.
I'm also very interested. Because when I compare the images of the parts (p10 plus vs normal camera module) the lenses do look the same. To get the higher f-rating the 'holes' should be a big bigger (if it is not something in the sensor or software) else with a 'patch' the current module would be able to run f1.8 as well.
So, as others requested, could you publish the exif data or a screenshot of what the camera-app tells you about the f-rating?
Since I'm leaning towards a mi6 because of the f-rating, this mod could get me into the huawei camp

Well, this was horrible. Now my camera wont work anymore. Not with the new sensor or the old.
This is what i did.
Turned off the phone
Replaced camera sensor, camera application force closes. Like there is no camera. No error msg or nothing.
Changes back to the old camera module, now that doesnt work either. Does a factory reset.
After some fiddling the camera works again, tries the new camera module one more time, thinking Maybe bad connection. Factory reset again.
Now it wont work at all, Even snapchat wont open up because off missing camera?
Suggestions?

That is very frustrating.. maybe the new module was defective? I would advice to not use the new module again. Try cleaning all the contacts of the original module with some rubbing alcohol and such, maybe some bad connections?
As a last resort maybe disconnecting the battery and leave it for a while before reconnecting again would help reset some memory? Would be nice if the TS would reply with some details about the modification :crying:

Did you disconnected the battery befor changing the camera? I think this could be importend.

Just wipe data of the camera app and it will be fine.

i had an nexus 5x before i switched to the Samsung Gang (A520F)
Loved my nexus , but they used weak chips (my Nexus just died and thats when i first heard of this issue)
What i most liked bout the Nexus 5x, was its camera. HDR+ shot were really fantastic, popping colors and were awesome to look at.
lot of people liked this camera and its software, so this guy is porting the camera app to other devices.

i was just glad to be able to take photos, and compared it to the standard camera app, it's way better!!

anyone who knows a fix for the front camera?
Didnt try the front cam, didnt realize its not working.
Dont know if the settings change anything. Iam afraid the settings dont work, hdr is not processed.
Cant tell a difference between the different settings when comparing images..

Well yes, also FC when switch to front cam.
Other settings also seem to have no influence on the image. Sadly no processing.

try shoot on backlight, object more clear..

For me it's working - at least partially. Front cam and auto HDR are broken.
One version, the installer tells me it's not suitable for my phone - an A3. It was an apk file.
Hello @SchWeinSAuG, could you please upload your APK file or tell which version you used? I've tried a few and I can't get HDR+ to work, even when using your settings.
It works but with 2 problems. The flash is out of sync and the pics are too dark compared with the normal app.
As someone said earlier, the photos don't look that different from the stock camera. I tried many parameters and got basically the same results.
Could someone tell me if the Google Camera app runs on your A5 2017 and what is the version that you use?
I downloaded an application some time ago but the HDR + did not work, nor have I obtained better results than with the stock camera.
I would like someone to tell me if the HDR + works and if the photos are better than with the stock, and also what is the configuration to do in the settings for it.
Also, I would like to know if there's any option to activate the Digital Stabilizer for the videos in the app.
If there is one that works well, put the download link, please!

I think the photos are nicer compared to the stock version, the only problem is that I was not successful to operate the portrait mode, so I use the lens blur.

In developer settings, turned on camera:gcam_enabled and the portrait mode is working.
