There is a pre rooted and xposed enabled ROM available at the Mi-Forums. I have to register and reply to the threat to get the download link.
http://en.miui.com/thread-228503-1-1.html
The same room is also available at he 4pda forums if you prefer.

Sorry, wrong answer.

If you know where to find pre-rooted roms, then you know that there is no way to root stable rom. (Root_Xiaomi_Redmi3.apk doesnt seem to work, at least not for me)
Can you share the link for Redmi 3 DEV 6.24.2 rom ?

I am too interested in Redmi 3 DEV ROM

Just take KingRoot

It doesn't work

Use Kingroot.apk new version can root the device.

what version? 4.8.1 don't work

I'm interested too, really want to update but don't want to loose my root access.

Anyone tryed Chinese developer ROM? Installation is through updater app? Everything went through well?

Flash 7.1.2.0 Xiaomi EU stable version. You will have Gapps, no chinese apps, easily to root with Kingroot ( the replace with SuperSU by terminal )
MiFlash method:

Thanks. Flash in download mode or fastboot? I suppose download because of locked bootloader.

Kingroot worked for my as well.

Global developer rom

Hi guys,
I have the normal 16gb redmi note 2 on global stable rom. Planning to install the developer rom instead to get root access. But I read that the latest 6.1.8 firmware removed the root access option.
Question is, can I install the older developer rom 5.12.XX and still get the root access option?
If yes, which is recommended for best battery life?

I was on global dev rom for quite sometime, last monday updated to 6.1.8, as usual just flashed superSU.zip and my phone still rooted. When you going to update from stable rom to dev rom, make sure you fully wiped the phone fellow by restoring you precious data. So backup, backup by titanium backup/system backup first. I always done these two backup.

Why use global developer rom when you have global stable rom? Unless you are developer...

How to root after official unlock of bootloader (SNAP650).

Hi guys,
I'm from India, and I have the Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon 650 variant. I have successfully unlocked my bootloader via the official process using MiFlashUnlock tool. I am on MIUI Global Stable 7.3.2.0.
Now that I have unlocked my bootloader, I want to root my device, and I had a few questions.
1. What's the method of rooting. I read that I need to install TWRP. A link to the latest updated guide would be much appreciated.
2. After rooting, will I be able to get proper regular updates? If yes, will it unroot my device after the update? If yes, then what do I do?
All in all, I am looking to root my RN3 and keep getting proper OTA updates and still retain my root access.
Any help in this regards would be highly appreciated.
Thanx a lot in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply
Edit: The main reason for creating this thread is coz there is a lot of confusion right now as there are various methods to root RN3 and then there is a different way to do it if you've unlocked your bootloader UNOFFICIALLY.
With all this chaos, I just wanna know what's the correct procedure for me
+1 good question, i also want to know, see complete guide for ppl who unlocked officially ONLY.
You can receive OTA's, and you can download them, but you can't install them.
Also you should flash the official TWRP if you officially unlocked the bootloader. Be sure to download the universal boot image patches from the safe TWRP thread and also you can root from TWRP. When you open TWRP, it'll ask you if oyu want to root.
Use this recovery : http://en.miui.com/thread-282773-1-1.html , then you dont need flash modified boot.img everytime you flash miui roms.
After you flash OTA updates , your root access will be gone, so you need root again from twrp.

Exactly i m stuck here( kind of), cause this installation guide start like this.
" Reboot to twrp.
........
...........etc,etc.
Now it doesn't say how to flash twrp.
That alka.... author thinks/ want us to on twrp preinstalled. Help if possible to officially unlocked ppl
You have to flash recovery via fast boot

Thanx a lot for the replies guys.
Well, I wanna learn everything that's related to Redmi Note 3 flashing, rooting, etc.
Like, to install TWRP, why do we need to flash a modified boot.img file? Is this also required if we have UNLOCKED OFFICIALLY?
Also, @justinxfan @ddarshan - why won't it install the OTA? Nonetheless, after downloading that OTA zip, we can install the OTA zip using TWRP without losing any data, right? And then, of course, as you said, we can again gain root access via TWRP right?
By the way, for now, I am not interested in any roms. Am very happy with the current MIUI Global Stable ROM. Just want root access but also wanna learn
It will be awesome if someone can list the differences and what to do after official and unofficial unlocking methods. Few more questions, does flashing any miui rom via twrp after official method will relock the bootloader or it can be done only by edl method? Also, flashing by edl method will remove twrp right?
Seriously guys, please help us out
if u unlock bootloader unofficially ,it will void your warranty but official unlock will not.

+1 for cofface's TWRP. I'm on officially unlocked and rooting works by flashing the latest SuperSU.zip through TWRP. I am not sure if Global Stable even allows root though, since I'm on Global Dev. I can also recommend going to xiaomi.eu ROM when you are unlocked. It's rootable and based on the latest version of MIUI without the chinese bloat. A good filler until a stable version of CM13 is released.

For native root you must have Unlocked Bootloader even on Chinese Dev ROM... it won't affect any future updates if you are not using any Custom recovery.
and in Chinese Dev ROM there won't be any Google Services pre installed and lots of Chinese app will be there... hovever you can remove them if you are rooted... but again you need to have Bootloader unlocked to gain root access... and it is suggested to not flash a dev fast boot ROM and flash Chinese Stable Fastboot ROM and then update to latest Chinese Dev.
MiPCSuite solve all problems, no need any CMD and fastboot. Save your information first - it's make clean installation!

Thanks my friend. But had a bad experience. I flashed the MI Chinese Stable Rom thru MI Flash. Sadly device got locked stating that this device id is associated with another device. Could not go beyond the startup menu. Could not even shut my phone. Went to the service center and back on Global Stable Rom. Applied for Unlocking permission. Approved by Xiaomi. However now the issue is that when connected, the phone is scanned upto 50% and then again this device is associated with another ID. So can someone pls help me.. How do i switch to a Chinese Dev Rom, get root permissions and get on with my life ??

Device locked after flashing Chinese ROM is strange...!!
I just unlocked Bootloader with Global Stable Then Flashed TWRP alka and then Flashed Latest MIUI CN dev ROM and all is working as it should be...!!!
now with Unlocking Bootloader...
the process is quite pain of a**...
it work sometimes doesn't work something, xiaomi needs to come up with better solution...!!
so far you can try each step from this guide
http://en.miui.com/thread-280561-1-1.html
and if it doesn't work try after 3- 4 days or even after week, it won't work if you keep trying each day. (strange but true)
after Unlocking you can either Install TWRP and install SuperSU to gain root access...!! but it will break Official OTA updates, you can still flash full ROM but OTA won't work anymore...!
EDIt..
you can try this without breaking OTA..

Upgrading MIUI 9 to MIUI 10 on an International Mi Pad 4

Hi!
Before attempting anything I wanted to ask this here:
I have a non-rooted, completely stock Mi Pad 4 bought from Gearbest. It is the international version (Model name: M1806D9W) that came with Google Apps, already with english language, etc. It currently runs MIUI Global 9.6 | Stable 9.6.7.0.0(ODJCNFD) (Android 8.1.0 OPM1.171019.019)
I read online that MIUI 10 should be available for global versions which I think mine is? But yet system updates tell me there are no updates available.
So here's my question: What is the simplest most straightforward way to upgrade to MIUI 10?
I see I can download ROMs from threads here and other places online but I want to make 100% sure of which one should I get.
Bonus question: Any way of backuping everything so I don't have to re-install, reconfigure, re-place my apps icons, etc?
Thanks so much!
pretty sure the international version that your reseller claim is false.. there are no international version now.. they probably loaded an "international modified" rom .. highly recommend you to flash xiaomi EU rom already comes with prebuilt playstore if you ur bootloader is already unlocked. if not, flash official chinese miui 10 rom and they are many guides to get playstore on chinese rom as well.

Ok I see! So once I upgrade to MIUI 10 I will have OTA updates then?
This is the one I need right? https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-pad-4/how-to/rom-miui-10-xiaomi-eu-links-t3864882
Also is there any way of restoring my apps, settings, etc like it is on MIUI 9 right now? OR will I really need to start all over again?
EDIT: I don't believe my Mi Pad 4 is rooted. This seems like good instructions on how to root it and flash a new rom? https://en.miui.com/thread-3196420-1-1.html
Thanks so much!
i just flashed my mi pad 4 . It had the same rom, just modified rom to include the playstore,
The bootloader is already unlocked.
just boot to fast boot. volume key + power
flash twrp - i used twrp installer bat from here en.miui.com/thread-3196420-1-1.html
once boots twrp, then flash miui 10 - androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=281632
job done.

yeah the link is correct, with xiaomi Eu rom you can still get official updates, maybe just slight delay from official chinese stream. but that's the best support we have so far for international miui roms now. the check update seems to be quite buggy on xiaomi eu rom, sometime it downloads but fails on completion.. just try again.. 2nd try is the charm as always haha. if not you can download the rom and dirty flash no problem, i was on beta previously so maybe thats why.
highly recommend you to start from fresh.. migrating over apps may result in bug occurrence.
