Wi-Fi connectivity issues, Resetting mobile internet - Redmi Note 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having trouble with keeping my Redmi Note 2 connected to home Wi-Fi. In the Wi-Fi menu, it often shows "Authentication problem". I am not experiencing this issue with any other Wi-Fi connection. Also, I have double checked to make sure the password is correct, and it definitely is not a password problem as it sometimes works.
I've even tried changing the password of my router, as well as the SSID (router wireless network name) to something else, thinking that it may have been a factor. Both methods did not help.
In addition to this, I am getting very poor reception at home for my data connection speeds. I don't think this is an issue with the phone though, as an iPhone 6S at home also has poor reception. However, I'm trying to figure out how to reset the network settings and I can't find it anywhere in the menus..
Would appreciate any assistance! Thanks.

What rom?
Which router, running which band?
Are you using n speeds, dual channels, single channel, wpa, wpa2 etc.
First thing I would try is set the router to G only (WPA_PSK). If that doesn't work, change the channel. Asus routers (the cheaper ones - e.g. NM10) can go coo coo bananas and fail to authenticate random devices, while others work just fine.
Try upgrading to the latest stable global xiaomi.eu rom. Get it here. Also, read the instructions how to flash there.

Sorry. Using SMIUI 7 by sebsch1991 (according to Settings -> About, based on 5.11.5).
I haven't fixed the problem yet.. but I realise that the Wi-Fi issue seems to "reset" itself after I restart. So whenever I notice that the Wi-Fi is no longer connecting, I just restart my Redmi Note 2 and it is able to connect again. Seems to occur in 24-hr loops?
I am using a D-Link DIR-865L. I have two bands (2.4GHz and 5.0GHz). Using the highest level of security I think? In my router settings, it shows I am using WPA/WPA2 (auto mode so it adapts to the device I believe). 802.11 mode is mixed (n, g and b).
The network settings issue I haven't found a fixed for yet, but to be honest haven't looked very far.. and I think it may be a telco issue.

When I first started trying out different ROMs, I found a few of them gave me WiFi issues with different networks. Some networks would behave normally, others wouldn't connect at all. I believe SMIUI was one of the ones that gave me trouble with at least one of the networks I use regularly, so I had to go with a different ROM.
I can't guarantee that you're having the same issue, but swapping ROMs is my best advice.

Hero's Wifi problems

Hi,
so kernel sources are released. Is there any fix for hero's wifi problems? I mean dropping connection to AP. It is so annoying, I tried to do everything: change channel, mode, encryption... Nothing helped. It is Linksys wrt160nl. The same applies to other networks (some public hot spots).
I never had this problem with my Linksys WRT54GL...

Could you paste your wifi settings? (mode, encryption mode, channel)
Using the Modaco custom ROM 2.8 (never had problems with modaco ROM and generic)
Router: Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato 1.25 firmware
Wireless Mode: Access Point
B/G Mode: Mixed
Channel: 1 - 2.412 Ghz (try a free one)
Security: WPA / WPA2 Personal
Encryption: AES
Group Key Renewal: 3600 seconds
No Mac Filter
Under Advanced Settings I changed "Transmit Power" to 251mW for a better signal, the rest are default values.
Try to update your router firmware
Are you alone with this problem?

In case you haven't done so yet. Check out the Wifi Sleep Policy (access by pressing menu when you are in wifi menu). Normally the Wifi is turned off then the screen is turned off which can cause problem.
Similar problem with netgear wnr2000

Hi got similar problem with my router netgear wnr2000.what i found funny is that when i reset the router, the phone connects perfectly to the router, but after abt 24hrs or so, it fails to connect.even if i reboot my phone, or reset the connection on phone.fails to connect.it will only connect when i reboot the router. i will try the 'aes' encryption n see if that helps.will update if it works
Thanks for your replies. Please could other members share their experiences, used options and solutions. This issue is too common to simply forget it. I am trying to find some kind of pattern or special options, it requires.
i dont have a problem with wifi apart from the wont find or connect to n-range device other wise i use wifi all the time it never drops, on stock orange uk firmware
I have a Sitecom WL-173 router.
I cannot connect at all. I can, but only with no or WEP security. That is no option for me.
When I use WPA or WPA2 my Hero does view my network, but does not connect.
I called HTC about this problem. He told me that they do not support all routers. He could not tell me which they support and which not.

I also have the same problem. The way to solve it is to change the above setting to 'G' only. Not mixed/Hybrid.

I have not had any problems trying to connect to WiFi networks, until i went over to my mates place where he has the Virgin 50MB B-Band and also a D-Link wifi-N router, and my Hero could no see the network at all, even though his iPhone connected straight away.

I'm sorry, it hurt even more when i was sitting there pissed off that my Hero wouldnt connect to the Wifi!!!
I have Virgin 50meg at home no problem at all, went to my GF's who has basic Virgin cable 10meg on netgear G and would not connect at all.
No idea why, as it should be all fine!
I have the same problem. It is so ****in annoying. My router is a Linksys WRT54G with Tomato firmware v1.25. Router is in "G only mode", WPA-2 PSK-AES security, I've set a static local IP for the phone, the phone's wireless is set to always ON... I basically tried everything I could think of. Ended up rooting the phone and installing Modaco 2.9... but didn't change anything. The only way I can get it work again when it drops is shut the Wi-Fi off then on...
Worst of all this is the problem seems widespread (but not universal)... What the **** does HTC think putting a ****in smartphone on the market with defective Wi-Fi... This is non-sense.
I really hope someone comes up with a fix or HTC updates this... otherwise we might want to start thinkin bout class action.

Is it a router setup or a Hero setting?
Pleaes explain if it's one of the options
probs here too ...
Linksys WAP54G v3.1
vs
HTC Hero
was working perfectly for first month or so, but has been getting worse and worse. ie, for a few weeks it would see the wifi but would usually fail to connect. now I'm lucky if it can see it at all!
have reflashed the wap with dd-wrt and experimented with a lot of settings. no diff.
have reflashed the hero with hero21 comunitry v1.6. no diff. (and also latest radio)
it just starts and stops when it feels like it.
oh, and my eeepc works fine on the same wifi, so I know it's not some wap screw up.
tried every tip I can find like 'use mixed mode' or 'g only', etc etc.
I am starting to think it's a hardware fault?
Same problem
Siemens Gigaset Tiscali modem with wpa psk2 tkip and T-mobile hero rom.
Sees the modem and connects with security first time but then says 'remembered out of range' on wifi settings but interestingly in wifi buddy it constantly has the syncing symbol next to the network.
Really annoying.
I've tried WEP and security off, wireless g only etc etc.
I have problems too but seems different to yours... but who knows : in fact i can't connect to wifi when the SSID is masked. Even if - or course - i put manuualy the ssid before with the good wep key. It happens on a livebox ( orange box )... but if i press the button to show the wifi network - it has to be made when you connect a device for the first time on this box - then it connects to the network... else it tells me that the network is out of range...
So does the wifi on hero has problem with masked SSID ? To compare i never had this problem - on the same box - with the touch diamond and the touch hd... and at home, not masking the ssid, the connection is ok without doing anything.
Ciao
Fred
I had the same problem with a Zyxel 660 router. I was able to connect to the wifi (WPA/PSK enable) but there was no data transfer possible.
So I updated the Radio ROM to the 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.08.29 version and it solved the problem.

[Q] Crippling Wifi issues - Please help

Hello everyone,
I'm a longtime lurker of XDA ever since I switched from my Palm Pre (RIP) to an HTC Evo 3D. I created an account finally to post this question and I'm hoping someone can help because I am at the end of my rope.
My Nexus 9 has a wifi issue that cripples my entire network. First, I'll give you the details of my configuration and the problems I'm running into:
Running an ASUS RT-AC66R on Centurylink DSL. I have tried both the 2.4 and 5GHz bands. I have tried multiple channels per band with no effect on the issues listed below. The 5GHz band is currently disabled.
Unless I am am running the factory image that came with the N9, my wifi connection will almost completely dry up across every device on the network when the N9 is connected. As far as I know, this only happens on my home network.
Restoring the N9 to factory settings - which I have now done twice since purchasing it on Nov 3 - eliminates this problem almost entirely until I install the OTA update. This problem happened with both the day one patch and persists in the recent update to 5.0.1.
If I am playing my PS4 or streaming Netflix (or anything that requires a connection), I notice the connection speed rapidly drops to somewhere in the range of 0-5 kb/s as soon as my N9 connects to the network. When I deactivate the N9's wifi, the connection returns to normal speed immediately.
I am still connected to the network when speeds are low, but data crawls. I am able to connect to the router's config page and can see that traffic caps out at about 5kb/s down and 60 kb/s up.
Here are some of the fixes I've attempted, which all failed to produce results:
resetting the router
resetting my modem
disconnecting all other devices
switching channels on the 2.4 and 5GHz bands manually
updating the firmware of the router
changing the network name
changing the network password
changing the network security type
I am typing this after having reset my N9 to factory settings for the second time to confirm that the issue lies within one of the firmware updates. Can someone please help a networking noob figure out how the connection of one device quickly (within 15 seconds) halts all traffic?
I should mention that the exact same issue was present on my N5 earlier this year (long before Lollipop arrived) but that it eventually worked itself out and stopped hijacking my network. Unfortunately without mobile data on my N9, it is essentially useless until I figure out the issue.
Thanks in advance for any help!
The first thing that came to mind is an ip conflict. Have you tried changing to a static ip on your nexus 9?
Edit: Also when your nexus 9 is connected check and make sure the ip address on your other devices jives w/ you router (you may need to make all devices static until you find the problem) I had the same router as you and i had a network switch that was throwing odd ip address to devices not even attached to it...
I updated to 5.0.1 again and didn't have any issues this time around. I went ahead and set a static IP anyways but I'll report back here if I have any issues. Thank you!

S9+ showing "connected to WLAN, no internet"

So, I got my S9+ (international version, DUOS, 256 GB) last week from the Samsung store. I am on stock ROM (and will stay as long as my warranty lasts or someone finds a way to root with Knox 0x0, which I am not expecting).
At home, I have a WLAN Mesh (AVM Fritz!Box 6590 Cable, 2x AVM Fritz! 1750E Repeater on a wired connection), everything working great with any device.
Except my S9+. It connects and everything is fine, at some point - especially when using it for e.g. streaming Netflix or so - it will stay connected to the WLAN but will say "no internet access". Switching WLAN on and off fixes the issue until it happens the next time (minutes to hours later). I have no special settings, no neighbouring networks which would interfere. I have 2,4 and 5 GHz active and automatic channel selection. All other devices in my home work with no problems. I have found similar issues froim users on other Samsung phones (S6/7/8 series (my former S5 on Resurrection Remix Oreo does not show t his behaviour)), but no answers that worked (like forget the network, reboot and reenter credentials).
Quite annoying, anyone knows a fix? Big THANKS in advance.
No one experiencing the same thing or havin any ideas?
I have had the same issue in the beginning with the phone. I have a router with a cisco switch connected to it. The standard router's wifi wasn't sufficient in coverage through my house. I got hold of a cisco AP and connected it to the switch and disabled the wifi on the router. That's when my issue started. Fiddled around trying various options, but the one that worked for me was to tell the phone to forget my network, restart the phone and then "setup" the wifi on the phone again(password for wifi needed to be entered as it sees the network as a new one) Haven't had the issue after that. I did notice at my office that even though the wifi conection is good, that if it goes below a certain percentage, the mobile data will kick in, although I have that option switched off. I also picked up that if your line connection's speed goes very low for whatever reason, the same problem appears again that the phone assumes there is no internet
Thanks, this is what I've read from other threads (with S7, S8), too. But this didn't work for me. My repeaters get ther signal through LAN cable and I have a fast connection, coverage all over my house and garden. I really do not have an idea on what to try...

5Ghz WiFi not working after updating to EMUI 9 (Pie)

I own the 8" LTE model (SHT-AL09) with stock ROM, unrooted and with locked bootloader. It originally had the EMUI 8 firmware SHT-AL09C636B196 (Oreo 8.0.0.196) but a few days ago I got an OTA and decided to upgrade it to the official EMUI 9 firmware SHT-AL09C636E2R1P2161 (Pie 9.0.1.161) and now 5Ghz WiFi networks don't work anymore.
Before the update, WiFi scan showed dozens of 5Ghz WiFi SSIDs in my area, including my own one, and I could connect to them without issues. Other apps such Wifi Analyzer also showed dozens of 5Ghz WiFi networks.
After the update, I can only see one distant 5Ghz network but not my own one. When I try to manually add my own 5Ghz SSID I got the error message "Unable to find MySSID".
It seems it is a hardware/system issue because Wifi Analyzer has also stopped showing all 5Ghz WiFi networks but one. I've used the mobile Hotspot feature of my other Android devices to rule out my router being the problem, but the issue persist. Needless to say other devices in my household (Android, WebOs, Laptop, ...) have no issues showing or connecting to my 5Ghz WiFi networks.
I can see many people having the same issue months ago when they updated their Honor phones, but so far nothing affecting the Mediapad.
Am I the only one with this issue? Any suggestion regarding what could I try to fix it?
Did you already try to change the channel on your router? Probably the channel you configured is no longer supported. This at least would explain why you can see other networks on 5GHz.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was using automatic channel. I've changed it to manual and tried several channels, but the result is still the same.
this exact issue happen to me (my son's Mediapad M5 Pro). just realized it today. tried resetting the tablet's network setting, connecting manually to the router 5G wifi. all to no avail. my other devices - 2 laptops, 2 mobile phones, 2 android boxes - all are connected to the router's 5G network without issue.

I read in Reddit some people manage to "fix" it by using a different channel in the router, as @AndDiSa suggested. Try setting the Wifi channel to manual an test different ranges of channel. Try first with the lower ones (36, 38, ...,46,48 ). If it doesn't work try with the highest range (149, ..., 155 ). If it still doesn't work, you can configure your router to use another region/country with differnt channels range until you find one that works.
same here, mediapad m5 8 (SHT-AL09), wifi 5ghz not work after upgrade to pie 9.0.1.161, I think this is bug. I'm using another huawei P20Pro and Honor Play, there are no issue about wifi 5ghz and connected to the same router
Please fix it Huawei
No WiFi issues here after I installed the OTA update to 9.0.1.160.
Does it seem to be a problem for the lte versions only? Is anyone with a wifi only tablet experiencing this problem?

I've a wifi only M5 8 - both 2.4 and 5GHz wifi is fine for me on Emui 9.
Same here. I own my M5 8.4 inch LTE version and I updated to Android Pie yesterday. I tried to factory reset for a couple of times and it didn't solve the problem. I think it's a bug of this firmware version hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Yes, i tried that and it can connect to it. But it is very buggy. The connection drops a lot compared to my other devices that connect to the same 5Ghz SID. It is very noticable when playing head-to-head game such as Clash Royale when the bar is about 2 bars. It just drops off and switch to mobile. I have never experience the issue before emui 9 or on other devices.
:| I might have to drop back to 2.4Ghz.
Non LTE, not able to connect to 5GHz.
Suddenly able to connect on channel 40 after changing channels a few times, which is the channel it was on anyway. Weird.
Just to add to this, it connects at 5GHz but soon defaults to 2.4GHz.
Just updated my M5 8"LTE(C432) to Pie and no issues with 5Ghz Wi-Fi band works as usuall. Must mention that after all bigger update I start from 0 so I allways do a factory reset and start from scratch. This can solve many problems
After Upgraded, my Mediapad M5 only can see 5Ghz lower channel wifi (eg. Channel 60),cant detect upper channel ( eg. Channel 157)
hello, I upgraded to Pie this week (mediapad m5 pro LTE), after restarting the tablet 5 mhz networks did not see them, I made a network reset from settings, and rebooted the tablet, now works fine. sorry for my English.
---------- Post added at 10:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:43 AM ----------
Hello, after a few days that the tablet has worked well, it happens again that 5 mhz networks do not see them. I do a network reset again and it works again ... go pretty messy.
I have a WiFi only M5 10.8 inch device, and all was working fine until the OTA update. 5Ghz does connect to router but reports no Internet. Even though it reports this I can still browse using Chrome and can search for apps in the Play store but can't update or download any apps. I can use the same router on 2.4Ghz and everything is ok, so does look like a firmware issue.
"Great" job. As usual, from working device to buggy one.
How to disable update? I have WiFi only version and there is an option to auto-download update over WiFi, which I unchecked.

Disable WiFi connectivity test ("Connected, No Internet")

I'm using a Pixel 2, with the latest updates, and I'm constantly getting issues when roaming WiFi within my house.
I have 3 AP's from Mikrotik, properly configured, and I don't have no issues at all with other devices like my iPad or Surface Pro/Book, etc.
But once in a while, my Pixel get's stuck in the state "Connected, No Internet" and it keeps retrying... until after a couple of minutes (5 or more) it properly connects...
Is there a way to disable this?
Another thing that I've noticed is that often the device only connects to the WiFi (switching from LTE) only when I unlock it or wake up the device. Have anyone noticed something similar with Pixel 2 or other devices? Any recommendations?
Cheers,
anthonws.
Hey, I don't own a Pixel but a Note9 but would certainly try to help you.
Do you have 2.4 Ghz router or do you connect to a 5 GHz SSID? If yes to the former, have you tested different channels. Interference in some rare cases can cause unstable internet. You can use the Wifi Analyzer app on the play store to test.
I had fixed a similar problem on my older S7e by assigning static IP to it. Try this as well. Static IP can be configured on your router as well as on your device itself.
Android do has options to set Wifi Aggressiveness. See if you have set Wifi Aggressive Mode (it connects to Mobile data even if Wifi is slightly unstable). There's also two more options (in developer options) that are worth checking: Wifi safe mode and Wifi power saving mode.
I understand that these options are hard to find and that's what made me initiate this guide. Do have a look.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. My WiFi is properly tuned. No channel overlapping. I'm using 5Ghz band only, same SSID and different channels, and bespoke antenna gains to reduce signal overlap.
None of those options are available in Google Pixel 2. No Power Save Mode and no Safe Mode. Only the option to have Mobile connectivity in background for Fast Switching.
My ask is more towards on how to disable the connectivity check from Android. Nothing else. I know I have Internet access. I know my AP's are all working properly. It's just something with Android...
