Hi all, apologies if this has been answered else where.
Currently running a Lenovo S20-30 Win 10 dual boot with the latest Beta release. Surprisingly really enjoying it. The only real issue I am having is it waking after it goes to sleep. Mouse and cursor frozen and wont fully wake unless a reboot.
Is anyone else having similar issues and have a possible solution?

My lenovo T500 reboots when it goes to sleep under Remix. My current "fix" is running a "stay alive" app I purchased for $2 (the free ones had too many ads or not enough functionality) that will dim the screen but not let it sleep if it has wall power or a good charge. I am also surprised how much I am enjoying it; the T500 is a screaming machine with Remix. It was barely adequate for web and RDP under Windows. I am getting incredibly good performance in Netflix, TWC TV app, Chrome, Dolphin and Microsoft RDP under Remix.

I made sure it worked at least somewhat before contributing to get the additional features. I am really hopeful that a later beta or some other app will give me more control. My notebook has a screen off mode that is better than just dimming but isn't sleep. I wish I could get it to use that. The dimming that the Stay Alive app does was enough that the screen would not keep me up at night but there is enough of a glow to know it is on. But it makes Remix more usable now.
I had this issue too. I noticed if you tap the power button once, the screen comes back on but the mouse won't still work sometimes. If you just tap the power button a 2nd time after the screens on, it would start working again. But I did have trouble w/ wifi coming back on after sleep. I had to toggle it off/on. Let me know if the double tap of the power button fixes it for you too?
BTW, I just added another little app - LockScreen (a free one). That way I can easily lock the screen if I walk away for a few minutes, have it dim but not sleep and reboot.
Tapping the power button again works for me to.
Tap, double tap not working here. Shame. Hopefully a fix soon.

Another update on my sleep issue and workaround...
I don't know how things changed; I may have tripped a setting or something but using the LockScreen app was putting it to sleep and triggering the reboot instead of giving the Stay Alive app a chance to catch it, so I quit using the LockScreen and just let it time out and then the Stay Alive app would dim the screen and keep it from timing out. So no reboot, but unfortunately no lock screen; I wanted it to lock. Poked around some more and found an app listed as Hidden Settings for Galaxy but it isn't really Galaxy specific. One of the the things it does is let you set up and enable Daydream mode. It turns out Daydream doesn't work properly on Remix, but it fails in a good way. If you select the clock (or anything else, but stay away from full screen stuff as sometimes that will stay in the way for several seconds) and set it for both docked and charging, then when the screen timeout is reached the clock will show for a couple of seconds and then it will go to the lock screen (assuming you enabled, I guess), not go to sleep and Stay Alive dims the screen. Clunky and convoluted, but it ends up doing exactly what I wanted.
ETA - One other little nit - After it dims on the lock screen, focus is set to the text box and you just have to start typing the password to get the screen to brighten and unlock. Clicking does not cause the screen to brighten, which worried me at first (thought it was hung).

Just be careful poking around at settings; I did something to make mine have issues with being locked after I had it working. More tweaks got it okay(ish) again. This is not a good solution for battery use; I don't think there really is one if standby doesn't work. Android/Remix doesn't seem to offer levels of powering off. What I would like to do is power off the screen, spin down the disk but leave the processor and wifi powered.

Yep going back to sleep again and not waking up properly with SA. Think will give up until a fix.

Mine is only doing that now on battery and it is usually on wall power. As I use it on battery so rarely, the simple answer is to just set the screen timeout higher when I do. On an older notebook like mine, a battery gives you freedom to move around the house/office with the machine running and maybe run without plugging in for two or three hours. It's my semi-lightweight UPS.
Anyway, I am not giving up. This is the only thing not working perfectly for me. My camera, mic, bluetooth, mouse and wifi all work fine. I stream videos in Youtube, Netflix, TWC TV, Amazon, FB and browsers with good sound and picture; no lag. I connect to work with Microsoft RDP and have less lag than using RDP in Windows. Yesterday I booted over to Windows to increase the size of my data.img (and had no trouble with that) and that definitely hardened my resolve. It is hard to believe I was putting up with that kind of speed just a few days ago. Now that I know I don't have to it seems worse.
After more research, I am back again with what I think is the final answer. I should and likely will write an app to undo this if my battery gets really low, but all you have to do if you never want your machine to go into sleep mode is press Alt-F1 to get the console and then do something like this:
# echo nosleeptilbrooklyn >/sys/power/wake_lock
And then Alt-F7 to get back. I did that as a test, unplugged from the charger and let it sit about 10 minutes with display timeout at 5 minutes. 5 minutes in the screen went dark. That used to be followed by a reboot about 5 seconds later. It did not reboot. When I woke it, it did initially show the main screen and then blanked it and brought up the password screen. For some reason I had to click before I could type (usually don't have to). Anyway, the above "fix" worked. To undo it, I need to just do this:
# echo nosleeptilbrooklyn >/sys/power/wake_unlock
There is a programmatic interface to do pretty much the same thing but with more options and I am thinking I may write something to use that to set the lock and then check the battery on a timer and unlock if it falls below 20% or some other setting.
EDIT TO ADD - A little more poking around yielded info that pretty much all manufacturers have had battery protection for several years now and will not let the battery run down into the kill zone even if the OS is frozen or even if it actively tries to stay alive. I would still advice checking your BIOS and/or doing some research on your particular system but it is likely safe to just leave it locked if you only want it shut down, hibernate or go into standby when you specifically choose that interactively.

Does anyone know or could point me toward information about how to impact the multi tasking in Android.
The problem is:
- Somehow 'screen off' event is linked with the activation of 'deep sleep'. Now that's all nice and well but it's interrupting downloads and stopping appplications (try it with dolphin browser during a download, try turn off your screen with angry birds on, etc)
- Multitasking seems random: you can download market apps, move to angry birds, and play while it downloads, but you can't play angry birds, move to market app, and go back where you were in angry birds (it will restart the whole game).
Can anyone clarify the above? Thank you.
Turning the screen of will send the phone into deep sleep unless something is holding a wakelock, downloads should hold one till they finish, and if they are not, it's a bug.
As far as multitasking goes, yes it does seem random, and very much depends how the application was coded to deal with it, it seems that ICS will deal with this by adding a dedicated multitasking button.
Android will kill background inactive tasks as and when needed, but again it depends if the app was designed to hold its state in the background or dump out. And in low memory situations, which we shouldn't really get on the sgs2 it will start aggressively killing stuff in the background.

The solution for me so far is to accept that the screen must be on when doing anything that takes time, so I have it set to never turn the screen off while charging, and have a widget that takes brightness down to 0% in a single click.
I suppose I just have to accept that the phone will eventually be outdated and the screen would die long after that - so 'using' the screen is not that big a deal.

Really? What ROM are you using? I'm on Cog 1.5. I *thought* it was a stock option, maybe it's a ROM specific one.

I have actually been happy that with my device, I can actually start a download, using either stock or opera browser (haven't tried others) and not have to keep the screen on and have the download finish. Not only for screen timeout, but actually pressing the button to turn it off. With windows mobile 6.x, pressing the sleep button killed data, and only push mail or scheduled things (usually/hopefully) would "wakelock" the phone enough to receive something. It worked very poorly.
I honestly think you have a bug somewhere, because you should not have to leave the screen on for long periods of time just to let a download finish.
Hi all,
When I charge my HP TP running CM9 nightly, a clock screen is displayed automatically. I note that after my screen time out period of five minutes, the screen does power off, however when I wake up in the morning the screen is on displaying the clock screen - I guess email or some other notifications turn the screen back on.
Basically, can I change the behaviour so that when I put the TP onto the Touchstone, nothing special happens and this clock isn't displayed? I have an app that switches the screen off when the case is closed, and essentially this charging behaviour is interfering with this. I don't want the TP clock blazing away lighting the screen up all night.

Wow some refuse to do any work on their own....
If you want to shut the screen down all you have to do is hit the power button and the screen shuts down
As far as the Desk Clock app... You simply go into app manager and clear the defaults for it

I had Googled it but I can't find a suitable answer there either. Whilst I can shut the screen off with the power button, as per my original post when I wake up in the morning the screen has come back on.

Then you have something installed waking your TP that we have no way of troubleshooting without some type of log.... when you shut the screen down there is no reason for Android to turn it back on unless YOU have EXPLICITLY given an app YOU installed permission to do so. As far as the clock... when you set the TP on the Touchstone one of two things happens... a dialog box comes up with the apps that can by default be activated when placed on Touchstone OR YOU HAVE designated a default app to do this....
Now if YOU can't remember which app YOU ALLOWED to run then you have one of two choices.... go through all the apps in app manager clearing all defaults OR wipe all data and start from scratch and pay attention to what you press this time

Thank you for your reply, but unfortunately you are wrong.
I only have the clock app installed that triggers when the device docks - no other apps respond to this event, therefore when I dock the device I don't get presented with the option/choice, it just displays the clock as there is no alternative. I've found the best solution to be to install 'Screen Off ' from the market. This has an option to act on the dock event, and now when I put the device on the dock I get given the choice as to whether to show the clock or to power off the screen. This works pretty much perfectly, and without the clock showing the screen stays off, instead of coming back on randomly after I shut it off - therefore, I don't think that the clock was coming back on before due to notifications from apps/emails, but be cause the clock app itself was triggering - possibly when the device reaches full charge or something and temporarily disconnects from the dock or something, I don't know. In summary, you need more than one app installed that is coded to respond to the dock event, otherwise when you dock the device android just defaults to the dock event and powers the screen back on periodically. I have never explicitly enabled this behaviour, and without installing another app it seemingly cannot be changed or disabled.
I thank you for taking the time to reply to my post, but I think you should learn something from this thread - just because a problem may seem to be user error doesn't necessarily mean that it is - your post is completely wrong which is fine as I appreciate that you are just trying to help, but by getting all aggressive over it you've just ended up looking a little stupid. The forums should be all about helping people, not ridiculing them - hopefully this post will serve to help anyone out with a similar predicament.

The clock app doesn't trigger itself. Mine charges all night and never turns back on. That said, it is almost impossible to move the pad while it's on the TS without charge disconnecting and reconnecting. And that will trigger the clock app. So, if you have the TS on an unstable surface that allows ir to be inadvertently "jiggled", that could cause the clock to turn back on.

I don't know if it affects other devices to be honest. On my phone the clock app is configurable, but on my Cyanogenmod9 HP TP tablet it isn't something that you can change the behaviour of (if you tap the stock 'Clock' app it just locks the screen and displays a clock, you cant set any options like on my SGSII). I don't know if this is a feature of tablet OS'es in general, or just the CM iteration of Ice Cream Sandwich.
Either way, the 'Screen Off' app references working with a number of docks (blurb specifically references Sony ones) so I'd give it a shot and hopefully it will work for you.
I had that problem too, it was very annoying. I installed dock no op from the market and it finally stopped waking me up. That seems like the only option since cm9 doesn't let you set the dock behavior.
I am noticing some problems with my s3 after the official jellybean update. It feels like it has been rushed to the phone. For example it doesn't have the quick reply feature in the notification window. It does for missed calls but not for messages. This is one the most anticipated features for me. Also when watching you tube and you don't want the screen to rotate it now does. I want to lock the rotation so I only get the small video at the top when my phone is on its side. It worked before jellybean update. Also auto brightness has changed. When auto brightness is selected you can manually turn it up with the slider in the notification window and it disables auto brightness and changes to what you set on the slider. Now on jellybean you have to uncheck the auto brightness box and then slide. Little features like this are starting to make me feel like it has been a massive rush to get jellybean on to the s3 which is ironic seen as though it took long enough. I have the international i9300 model s3. Is anybody else noticing the problems I have stated? Does anybody know a way of changing/getting the features? Thanks.
They were definitely to busy with the Note II, I mean come on at least give their flag ship the same/some of the features that a bigger version of the S3 has... That sexy multitasking should have been on the initial jelly bean update.

I know what you mean. The note got great features like the multi window. Apparently that's coming before the new year but I highly doubt that. Are you noticing the same problems I am? Another problem I found is when screen goes off after inactivity you used to be able to press the home button a moment after it goes off and it would turn the screen back on leaving you at the page you was. Now the home button takes you back to the home when you press it. It's annoying you have to go back to the app.

Me too, my problem is the battery with jb lj4
I think there is a few little niggles but overal its pretty much the same.
The autobrightness don't disable automatically now when you adjust the slider as you can now actually adjust the autobrightness brightness, Not sure why though.
Google Now - leaving it active at the mo, but not really found any usefullness from it as yet. The Time home feature is ok, would be good if it actually showed the route I take home - Via motorway, rather than the route through city center which i don't take!!
The new notifcation bar - its ok, nothing major. Expect a bit of all these features will improve over time as well once apps get proper updates. Some work but don't have full functionally - Songpop has no notifications now for example.
Battery Life - I did find that my normal phone use on ISC which included about 50/60 mins worth of calls etc wi-fi left on all the time but only actually connected to wi-fi at home (just 2G & 3G at work) i would have about 55/60% battery life left by the time i got home from work, on Jelly Bean - with the same useage i had about 40/45% left. I am now back to the same as before on ISC, but i didn't disable google now or anything just turned Wi-Fi off when left home and turn it back on when home - results was 55/60% battery remaining a as on ISC. Seems that the Wi-Fi drains when not connected - either it keeps on searching which it might not of done on ISC or its the Google Now doing something (Does say improve location by keeping wifi on - does this even if not connected!!) - Least this way i can still use google now and see how it improves its tags overtime.
I am now using a App called WiFi Timer to automatically switch Wifi on and off when i leave/get home.
Love that it now has voice downloaded so you can text etc with no data connection - find its more accurate now as well!
Never had the small vids on Youtube when rotated phone so not sure about that. Take it disabling autorotate doesn't do this?
Good and Bad
My experience is as follows:
Good:
Sheer speed, no perceivable lag.
A problem I had with only half the SMS notification tone being played (before it cut off) has gone away.
Bad:
Battery drain terrible even when idle. Turning off Google Now, Location Services and Samsung Push Notification fixed this.
When I activate Smart Stay, the screen does not want to turn off 80% of the time - even when I'm not looking at it.
When I wake the phone using the home key, it exits the app I was in. Previously, this would wake the device and return you to the current app (after unlocking). I have a partial work around using the PreHome app; this way the app is still visible underneath the PreHome dialogue box and I just need to press Back to get to my app again.
Widgets, seem to refresh less regularly, particularly Messaging and Gmail widgets which seem to hardly even refresh when I want them too.
Of No Consequence:
The red charging led is a little dimmer when charging.
Overall:
The speed benefits outweigh the niggles - just!

Yep i know, but this app is far better as it lets you setup different profiles for mornings, evenings & weekends etc which the inbuilt one don't. :good:

i may just root my phone as i really am not happy with this jellybean update, nothing has really improved for me, if i root it and install a rom like codename all the features like quick reply would be there right?
With my Note 4, it would wake up from Android Doze, or simply not enter that state if there was movement of the phone. I felt stupid needing to pick up my phone every 10 min to give it a small shake, but at least it seemed to work. I keep my phone in my pocket when I'm working outside and that always kept the Note 4 from falling into Doze mode. Not so with the S9+. It drops into Doze even in my pocket. Anyway to stop that from happening? Like others here, I feel frustrated needing to activate my screen to find out if there are notifications.

That's not Doze mode. Doze is when Android puts apps to sleep that are in memory not being used. This is done to save battery (and processing time?).
So what is happening here, if I understand, is that your phone display is going blank when you pull it from your pocket?

Doze was originally described as putting your phone into a power saving sleep mode after 20 min of "inactivity". The issue that caused me problems back then was not about the apps, but that notifications pushed to the device were queued up by the system until your phone "woke up", then the notifications would come rolling through. This happened at the system level regardless of app.
Perhaps in the latest version of Android they have changed the definition of Doze, but another poster was having a lot of issues with notifications (mostly email) and the culprit was deemed to be Doze.

No. My display is blank (as it should be) when I put it into my pocket, as well as when I pull it out. I always shut the screen off before putting my phone down, or in my pocket.
If I put my phone in my pocket, and 5-10 min later I get a notification, it comes through loud and clear and I pull my phone out and check it. If 20+ min has gone by without me having a reason to turn the screen on, then I stop getting notifications. When I pull it out to check the time or send a message, suddenly the notifications come rolling through.
Again, I was used to this if the Note 4 was put down, but this behavior is new to me if the phone is moving about.

I concur. Same happens to me.
I don't have this issue at all. I have my phone in my pocket most of the day and don't need to "wake" the phone up for notifications. I can leave my phone unattended for hour or 3 and it still receives the notifications without issues. I don't know if I have turned on a setting that mine works different, but I must say that my battery life isn't that great....as if the phone never sleeps/doze at all

I'm curious. Do you have any of the power saving modes turned on? Do you use "always on display"?
I never use the power save modes. Aod is on from 5 in the morning till 8 at night

AoD could be keeping your phone awake, preventing Doze. The power saving features talks about putting apps to sleep, so unless you use them, that could also be disabling Doze. I could try changing the power saving settings, though it seems like a shame. I have zero interesting in AoD for multiple reasons, so it's not worth it for me to use that to solve my problems.

Doze changed in Nougat, I believe, so that motion no longer prevented Doze from working. Since most men, at least, carry their phone in their pocket Doze hardly ever kicked in, greatly limiting its power saving capability.
You can exempt specific apps from Doze if you want to get notifications from them even when dozing.
Settings / Apps / 3 dot menu / special access / Optimize battery usage. Select All Apps from the drop down. Turn off the toggle for any apps you don't want to Doze.

Yes, I am confusing Doze with the Samsung power saving options. Blah!
I know the battery life will decrease with aod, but I have noticed that even without aod on my battery drop 2% per hour, so I leave it on...There are days that I can go 1 day and 8 hours before charging, but then my sot is only 2 hours....In general I'm happy with the battery life

It seems oddly redundant needing to do essentially the same thing in two places. One well advertised under the battery settings, and the other one hidden under settings/apps/special access.
Hopefully this will fix my problems. Glad to know there is a work around.

The two settings really are doing different things. Samsung's (in the battery settings), puts apps to sleep after 3 to 7 days (depending on your settings). The won't wake up again until you use them. Doze (the pretty much hidden option in Apps), lets the apps wake up on their own, when you start using the phone, even if you don't access those particular apps.
I'm not sure why the Doze setup is buried so deep in settings, though. I guess Google (or Samsung?) really doesn't want you interfering with it.

I made a mistake of putting an app to sleep that I use to keep my screen awake. It uses a widget to toggle it on/off, but will shut off along with the screen if you intentionally shut your screen off. After putting that app to sleep, the widget stopped working. I had to go find the actual app, start it, then quickly flip back to my home screen and click on the widget. I couldn't undo my "sleep" action on that app. I changed it to "unmonitored", so that the S9+ would never put it to sleep. I rebooted. I shut off the power saving options. Nothing worked. Everytime I would go to the widget (unless I just started the actual app), it wouldn't react to clicking on the widget.
I finally gave up and uninstalled the app from my phone. Rebooted. Reinstalled it and now it works fine. So I'm not sure I agree with "puts the app to sleep in 3 to 7 days". Maybe 3-7 minutes...
Well, 3 to 7 days is what Samsung says, and the optional range you can set in the app. Don't know what specifically happened with that widget, though.

Where is the setting(s) for optimal range? I don't remember specifying that. I thought it was more of an on/off thing. White listed (unmonitored resource consumption) or black listed (never let it run in the background). Then apps in neither list it reports to you and you can force them to sleep or not.

Samsung does bury things....
Settings / Device maintenance, click Battery at the bottom.
Then click the 3 dot menu at the top, and Advanced Settings.
Tap App power monitor (the text, not the toggle).
Tap Put unused apps to sleep (again, the text).
You can set the slider anywhere between 3 days and 7.
I spent several days just wandering through every settings option I could find after I setup the phone. Discovered all kinds of hidden things. Sometimes I can even remember where I saw them.
Hello guys I need help.
My phone has been blazing fast and battery among others have been top notch.
But for the last few days, when I try to use it after the screen times out not too long, there is lag before it comes up whether FP scanner, face recognition or power button is clicked.
But when it stays for a while or overnight, it can take over 5 minutes or more for the screen to come up. When it does this, the fastest solution is to force-restart it by holding power button for long.
The phone actually works fine even when screen doesn't come up; music plays etc.
I haven't added new apps. The only new thing is the navigation app by xda which I've had for a while but I paid premium.
I tried uninstalling the app but no difference.

Phone manager>Do optimise>tap on battery icon>Optimise battery usage. And dont let any apps to run in background. It will enhance your device performance.

Thanks for your response but that wouldn't work as I've already worked on battery management for the apps to no avail.
Update
Fixed guys!
So after the upgrade to EMUI9, it was still a bit slow though not as bad as on Oreo.
So, I went ahead and uninstalled the navigation app by xda together with the premium validation. Then I restarted but it was just a bit faster.
I then went into navigation settings and changed to gestures. I restarted and boom! It's back, faster than before and amazing.
