[RECOVERY] [SM-G7105 LTE] [ms01lte] [Test build] TWRP 3.0.0 Touch recovery - Galaxy Grand 2 Original Android Development

Team Win Recovery Project 3.0.0.x ONLY For MS01LTE SM-G7105
Team Win Recovery Project 3.x, or twrp3 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. Its a fully touch driven user interface no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Phone look:
TWRP 3.0.0-0 is out now for all currently supported devices.
What’s new in 3.0.0-0:
Completely new theme - Much more modern and much nicer looking (by z31s1g)
True Terminal Emulator - Includes arrow keys, tab and tab completion, etc. (by _that)
Language translation - It won’t be perfect and especially some languages that require large font files like Chinese & Japanese won’t be availble on most devices. Also some languages may only be partially translated at this time. Feel free to submit more translations to OmniROM’s Gerrit. (mostly by Dees_Troy)
Flashing of sparse images - On select devices you will be able to flash some parts of factory images via the TWRP GUI (by HashBang173)
Adopted storage support for select devices - TWRP can now decrypt adopted storage partitions from Marshmallow
Reworked graphics to bring us more up to date with AOSP - includes support for adf and drm graphics (by Dees_Troy)
SuperSU prompt will no longer display if a Marshmallow ROM is installed
Update exfat, exfat fuse, dosfstools (by mdmower)
Update AOSP base to 6.0
A huge laundry list of other minor fixes and tweaks
WARNING: This is our first release in a long time. We have a lot of new and somewhat aggressive changes in this new release. The changes to the graphics back-end may cause some devices to not boot up properly or have other display-related issues. If you are not in a position to reflash an older build of TWRP, then wait until you are or at least wait until others have tried the new version for your specific device. You don’t want to end up with a non-working recovery and have to wait several hours or days to get to a computer to be able to fix it.
Notes for themers: In addition to the udpated theme, we have introduced a theme version variable to the TWRP theme system. If the theme version does not match the version that TWRP expects, TWRP will reject the custom theme and load its stock theme. This change will ensure that people who update TWRP without updating their theme will still have a workable recovery. We have removed libjpeg support. The stock theme was only using a jpeg image for the splash / curtain. This change means that any custom themes will no longer be able to use jpeg images. It also means that tools used to repack recovery images with a different curtain / splash will need to be updated to use the new method.
Version number notes: For a while we’ve been using a 4 digit version number and reserved the 4th digit for device-specific updates. For instance, we find and fix a device-specific issue like decryption of data on Nexus 5, we would release that as a 2.8.7.1. After a while, some people would start asking where 2.8.7.1 was for other devices. So, going forward we have decided to change the numbering scheme to 3.0.0-2, etc. Our hope is that this version numbering scheme will more clearly identify that the 4th digit does not indicate a version change for the code base.
Note: As always, be sure your custom theme is up to date (or remove your custom theme) before updating TWRP.
System read only option: Devices that ship with 5.0 and higher as their initial OS are using block level OTA updates. With this style of OTA update, the update script checks to see if the system partition has ever been mounted read/write. Further, the script also usually runs an SHA sum of the entire system partition to detect if any changes have been made. If any changes have been made, the OTA update will refuse to install. Since not all OEMs and devices have factory images available, we have created a new feature in TWRP that detects if the system partition has ever been mounted read/write. If not, you will be prompted asking if you want TWRP to mount system as read/write. If you choose not to allow TWRP to mount as read/write, TWRP won’t prompt to install SuperSU and TWRP won’t try to patch the stock ROM to prevent TWRP from being replaced by stock recovery. The goal of this option is to hopefully allow the user to make a raw system image backup that they can use to get back to a state where they can take OTA updates again.
resize2fs feature: On some devices like the Nexus 6, the factory images include a userdata image that is the proper size only for the 32GB units. If you flash the factory image to a 64GB Nexus 6, the data partition will appear as if it only has the free space of a 32GB device. Using the resize2fs option, TWRP can resize your data partition to take up the full space available. The resize2fs may also be useful to resize system partitions on devices where custom ROM system images don’t take up the full partition space. Lastly, resize2fs may be useful in some cases to reserve the proper space at the end of a data partition for a full disk encryption key, should your partition be formatted incorrectly for some reason.

hey friends
diid it work for samsung galaxy grand 2 duos g7102?
plz reply fast:crying:

Hi guys.
Been trying for 3 days now to install this recovery on my Galaxy Grand 2 SM-7105, but to no avail. Here's what I did:
1- Using Odin I root the device using "CF-Auto-Root-ms01lte-ms01ltexx-smg7105" . I got PASS in Odin, (is this an indicator that the root is successful? Because if I entered Android after that, it seems unrooted).
2- Then after rooting (I understand that I can't install the recovery without root first), and without rebooting OR after rebooting the device, I run Odin again, and in download mode I flash the TWRP 3.0.0 recovery.
3- Disconnect USB cable, remove battery, then boot into recovery, but I keep getting the message:
Could not do normal boot .
Odin mode
Current Binary: custom
System status: custom
No matter how many times I tried and how many method and Odin versions I used, the same result.
What could be wrong? How can I be sure that it is a problem in the installation of the root, and not in the installation of the recovery, or vice versa?
Appreciate your feedback !

Thanks man. But that's actually the TWRP recovery I've been trying to flash, and that's what i mentioned.
If you were referring to the "CF-Auto-Root-ms01lte-ms01ltexx-smg7105" , my understanding is that that's not the recovery, but the root rom, which I must flash first before the TWRP 3.00 recovery.
No ?

And sorry not sure I understood your last sentence. I can only access the stock recovery. So what do you mean by "flash update supersu", and how does that help ?

Well, the author of this post (who posted the WTRP) didn't say one must have Kitkat before flashing this recovery. So are you sure of it?
Also, can I flash Kitkat via Odin if the phone is not rooted?
If yes, where can I get the kitkat for this phone ?

[RECOVERY] TWRP 2.8.7.x - TeamWin Recovery Project
TeamWin is proud to present TWRP 2.8.7.x for the Samsung S4 Mini Plus (64-Bit ONLY) (I9195I)!
Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIvWVS_Rkxo
Full TeamWin credits are on the TWRP page on the TeamWin website: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2
Introduction:
Team Win Recovery Project or twrp2 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. We started from the ground up by taking AOSP recovery and loading it with the standard recovery options, then added a lot of our own features. It's a fully touch driven user interface , no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Key Features:
Touchscreen driven with real buttons and drag-to-scroll
XML-based GUI that allows full customization of the layout true theming!
Settings are saved to the sdcard and persist through reboots
Ability to choose which partitions to back up and which to restore
Ability to choose to compress backups now with pigz (multi-core processor support for faster compression times)
Onscreen keyboard
Decryption of /data
Easy selection of internal/external storage
See changelog below for new features
In addition to the above new features, TWRP features a scripting engine that allows an app to send commands to the recovery for the recovery to perform during startup. We call this scripting engine OpenRecoveryScript. This engine will be put to use immediately in the GooManager app. GooManager will be able to install recoveries automatically for most supported devices. The app will also let you choose to install multiple zips from within Android, wipe cache & dalvik, and run a backup.
We are looking for other talented developers, themers, and device maintainers if they are interested in helping with a free, open source project.

Not sure, both of my devices are tripped already.

Edit:
Dunno what went wrong but re-installed stock rom ( I9195IXXU1AOD2 ) and re-applied twrp 2.8.7.1 with Odin. Had to update su binaries from Play Store (SuperSU) before i got root.
Try and reflash twrp recovery via Odin
Probably no cyanogen mod for this., this phone is so unpopular I am afraid a custom rom will never be released. Thanks for the recovery+root though
I also have problems installing the xposed framework after root. Everytime I try to install the framework i get the "kernel is not seandroid enforcing, set warranty bit: kernel" error.

So does xposed not work yet on the s4 mini plus?
Seconding this, no xposed for the "plus" version?
Its too bad theres no CM for the 919xi with the Quad core, seems you cant even get the old versions with dual core any more, just had mine replaced and got the quad one.. so either have to sell it or im effed
How to know if my phone is 64 bit ?
Is it possible to change ?
I've updated the TWRP recovery, it supports brightness and additional partitions to backup now, as well as a few minor changes and optimizations for our device. Thanks to Dees_Troy for taking the time to integrate my changes into the official version of TWRP.

This looks promising. How do I install this though on my GT-i9195i?
And is a Cyanogenmod available too?
Hope someone can help me out.
Kind regards,

Thanks, works like a charm. I wish there would be more funny things for this phone. It's cheap and quite good actually :highfive:
Tried installing twrp-2.8.7.1-serranoveltexx.img thru the TWRP manager, it said it was unsuccessful. Nothing broke thankfully. I saw 3.0.0.0 in the list too, but couldnt find any info about it anywhere. Now im too scared to try other methods.
Phone is rooted with kingroot.
I need TWRP for (Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini 32bit (serranoveltexx)) because the 64bit doesn't work for me !

No and there propably never will be as this device is not as popular and uses different CPU structure so only if a willing dev decides to support the phone there will be a rom
---------- Post added at 02:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:53 PM ----------
Safest way I found for flashing recovery is downloading the twrp.img file from the net and flashing it with flashify . Worked like a charm full root access through kingroot ->SuperSUme . Only thing is I get recovery is not seandroid enforcing warranty bit: recovery which hasn't caused any real problem so far flashing works, backups work, xposed is recommended after adding twrp and using monsterui module to get the lollipop like feel . also flashing the recovery doesn't wipe the download mode for odin so it's safe to go

[RECOVERY][angler] TWRP 3.0.2-3 UNOFFICIAL touch recovery [2016-??-??]

Hello folks!
Apparently the official TWRP recovery 3.0.2 has some sort of problems with android 7.1.1 Nougat, so this unofficial recovery was created to work around those issues in the meantime.
The official hosting of this unofficial recovery is in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...recovery-twrp-2-8-7-0-touch-recovery-t3234976
It is buried almost all the way at the end.
For sake of convenience, I am making it available here for those that wish to get going with it quickly. Note that I am not the developer of this nor am I the maintainer. This is here for easy reference only. You should speak with TWRP Grand Poobah Dees_Troy in the above thread for further details.
twrp-3.0.2-3-angler.zip 14.2 MB
https://mega.nz/#!tdcUAa4a!G-bGMWznEUAkE3Ih3ioaHq2Fx0NdzGnIlhY-nuPg__s
Installation instructions are straightforward:
1. Decompress the zip file so you have the .img file. Do not flash the zip file!
2. Place the recovery image in the same folder as your ADB / fastboot apps.
3. Put your phone in boot loader mode: Power button + volume down button.
4. Pull open a console in this directory and type fastboot devices. Proceed when you a serial number and "fastboot" next to it.
5. Type fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-3-angler.img. If all goes well you should see a success message of some sort.
6. Reboot and enjoy!
I've been using this for a few ROM installs already and haven't seen any problems.
Best of luck to you!
Guess I'll give this a go and report back later on heh. Will this recovery actually stay after a restart?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
Hmm, seems to be working ok for me on the 7.1.1 DP2 release.

Like some others have mentioned, I keep seeing it disappear after restarting the phone once, twice or a few times, so I have to re-flash it almost every time I need it.
Not sure what the hangup is. Size-related?

Good to know. 2 questions:
1) What modifications to a regular boot image do we need to make to keep it?
2) Are all boot images the same? Can we all use the same modified boot image or does it differ depending on the ROM?

Sounds like time for you to do some reading as to what root and boot images are. Search works great. I suggest the threads on SuperSU (a form of root) and also looking at the many wonderful custom boot images and Roms that are floating around in this forum.
The simple answer is flash Super Su or find a modified boot image for the current release and flash that.
Also, Heisenberg's excellent beginner's thread in Nexus 6p general is a great place to start.
Enjoy!
Just what I was looking for.
I was in TWRP loop forever and couldn't figure it out till this thread. No issues now
I've installed the one from the main thread and it's working for me.
I just wanted to mention what the bugs are:
shadowstep said:
TWRP versions 3.0.2-1 and above work with Android Nougat 7.0's encryption, TWRP 3.0.2-0 and below don't. Also, both versions 3.0.2-1 and 3.0.2-2 are buggy at the moment, but none of those bugs are along the lines of encryption. Read the end of this post for more information.
(Replies snipped)
EFS partition is never needed to be restored under any general circumstance. It is the partition where the phone stores its IMEI information, MAC address, product code, etc. and will never be needed to be modified or changed in any way. Even if you're flashing a stock factory image (be it of 6.0.1 or 7.0, whenever it is out), it would never touch this partition. You should just backup it once, store it away for emergency purposes and never backup or restore it again.
Okay now moving onto important notes and the bugs:
1. TWRP 3.0.2-0: Is stable and has no known bugs. However, it has not been updated to handle Android Nougat 7.0's encryption. Hence, if you're on 7.0 and you're encrypted, it will keep asking for an encryption password even if you don't have one or if you have one and are inputting it correctly, it will refuse to accept it. If you're on 7.0 and you're unencrypted, then this version should be fine.
2. TWRP 3.0.2-1: Is not stable and has a known bug. The bug would affect those who are restoring their EFS partition using this version of TWRP. The EFS partition has two subparts to it, i.e. /efs1 and /efs2. So, when you check EFS at the backup option menu in TWRP, it backups /efs1 to efs1.emmc.win and /efs2 to efs2.emmc.win, which is fine. However, while restoring (and here is when the bug comes in), it restores efs1.emmc.win to /efs1 but restores the same backup of efs1.emmc.win to /efs2 as well (which it shouldn't be doing and instead it should be restoring the corresponding efs2emmc.win to /efs2). This can brick your phone. Hence, the fatal bug.
This version, however, supports Android Nougat 7.0's encryption. Therefore, as long as you don't backup/restore EFS with this version, you should be good using it with either Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 or Android Nougat 7.0, encrypted or unencrypted.
3. TWRP 3.0.2-2: Is not stable and has a known bug (with the EFS bug most likely fixed in this version, but this is unconfirmed since there is no changelog available yet). The bug would affect those who are backing up their data using this version. TWRP creates the backups of your selected partitions as tar files. The bug that is present in this version would give you an error (most likely the one that @stankyou got) as it is unable to write the second tar file after processing approximately 1 GB of data and would cancel the backup. Hence, the bug.
This version, however, also supports Android Nougat 7.0's encryption. Therefore, as long as you don't create backups with this version, you should be good using it with either Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 or Android Nougat 7.0, encrypted or unencrypted.
4. @jcadduono has created unofficial builds (versions 3.0.2-3) for the Nexus 6P (Angler) and Nexus 5X (Bullhead) without the broken patches. They are up-to-date, but have the adb backup patches rebased out until the bugs are solved. These builds are untested, and he recommends sticking with 3.0.2-0 instead for the time being.

TL;DR 3.0.2-0 doesn't support Nougat encryption. 3.0.2-1 has bug restoring EFS. 3.0.2-2 has bug creating backups over 1GB.
ADB sideload is not working in TWRP 3.0.2-3 (twrp-3.0.2-3-angler.img - MD5 2fcc19da388ab727aac69b6165ac7888), not sure if this is @jcadduono or not. It's working in previous build IIRC. Is this expected? Thank you.

I had a few failures with it in TWRP, yes.
Until fixed, you'll have to do ADB push instead and then load from TWRP install.
Alternately, you can do fastboot flash commands while in the bootloader.

I noticed that bug yesterday restoring a backup. TWRP appeared to hang whilst restoring, I left it a further five minutes, then hard reset the power button. When the phone loaded up, I found it had restored correctly.
3.0.2-4 twrp ?
Anybody have the capabilities to roll the 3.0.2-3 version in with The Flash's 3.0.2-0_F2FS version lol; and make a version compatible with Nougat encryption as well as F2FS (and without EMS restore problem, nor backup error issue) ?
I know I sure don't, and now that I'm on christmas break I am just sitting around - in fact if anybody could point me to a resource, I have the time and I'm sure I could pick it up quick, I could try and compile it! I've been wanting to give back to this great community since I joined; maybe now that I've done a couple years of engineering school and been searching thru the forums, I can help throw this together.
I'm going to assume that I look up those two builds sources on GitHub, then use Parallels Windows to use a Linux distro (because I'm on a Macbook Pro) to combine the sources and make a build? Honestly, if I could get any advice, I'd love to jump on it.

Unfortunately for me, I still have issues decrypting an encrypted phone on TWRP 3.0.2-3 and 3.0.3-0. TWRP prompts for a password and won't take my PIN.
Running the latest ResurrectionRemix (CM-based), which enables device encryption. I'm still searching around to see what I need to do about this.
Edit: Update: Huh, weird, got it to mount.
I rebooted back into Android, went in to Security and set a device encryption password with "Change encryption password".
I hadn't set one before. It requests my screen lock PIN then to enter an alphanumeric encryption password.
Attempted to remove it again immediately (it doesn't show any feedback when I tap "Replace encryption password" then enter my screen lock PIN), and rebooted into recovery.
TWRP prompted again for an encryption password but now accepts my device lock PIN and it mounts!
Rebooted again, and now the phone requests a PIN unlock during boot >.<
Went back in to Security and went straight to "Replace encryption password", entered my PIN, and saw no feedback again. Rebooted back into Recovery.
TWRP prompts again but accepts my PIN. Rebooting to Android again, I am prompted again on boot to enter my screen PIN to finish the boot process. Sooo now I guess I have to figure out how to disable the device encryption PIN, or something. Oh well. I'll update if I make progress.
The end goal is to reach a point where TWRP will mount (even if it's manually with an entered PIN), and to not have a phone that requires a PIN unlock during boot. But I guess that's still safer and I can live with it. It's just different from how the ROM originally behaved, is all.
Edit: Update again!
Disabled my PIN/security altogether, rebooted into recovery. TWRP mounts without any prompts. Nice. Reboot int system, it boots fine. Also nice.
Set a new screen lock PIN, do not select to use it on bootup, and set my fingerprints again. Apps work immediately fine after, I did not have to reset them to use that auth method. Woot, nice.
Restart into TWRP, no prompt, good. Restart into System again, no prompt during boot.
So I guess in the end you have to disable and re-enable device screen locking security if you hit this issue in TWRP on a 6P? It could be my ROM as well.

[RECOVERY][UNOFFICIAL][09/26] TWRP 3.1.1 w/F2FS for Shamu

No longer supported
Unofficial TWRP 3.1.1 w/F2FS
> For the Nexus 6 Shamu
This work is inspired by @The Flash's F2FS TWRP builds. I based this build off of the TWRP Minimal Repo.Features:
TWRP 3.1.1
F2FS Mounting and Formatting supported (En/Decryption not supported, however)
Built atop my kernel
Works
Changelog:
3.1.1-3
Updated sources to 7.1.2_r33, which includes updated f2fs-tools (1.8.0)
Minor GUI tweaks (splash screen, odd gap under "Advanced")
Bump to subversion 3
Installation:
You should know the drill of installing custom recoveries if you found this thread, but anyways:
Have an UNLOCKED Bootloader
Boot to fastboot/bootloader mode (Power + Vol Down from power off)
In adb (replace X with appropriate subversion):
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1_X-f2fs-unofficial-shamu.img
You can now reboot to your shiny, new TWRP!
How Do I convert to F2FS?
Backup important data to an EXTERNAL source; if formatting /data, entire internal sd will be wiped.
Ensure your kernel/kernel you will flash supports F2FS. You can use my kernel if you desire.
Reboot to this (or any other) F2FS supported TWRP
Go to -> Wipe -> Advanced Wipe
Tick the desired partition you want to format (ONLY do /data and/or /cache)
Select "Repair or Change Filesystem"
Select "Change File System"
Select "F2FS"
Swipe to Change
Done. Flash all your stuff!
Disclaimer:
I am not responsible for broken devices etc... Flash at your own risk. I am also not affiliated with the official TWRP crew nor Omni ROMs, so please don't complain to them about bugs unique to my own builds.

How do i make it keep my settings. Every time i boot into twrp i have to swipe to allow modifications and need to set settings again. Also it does not see my backups i made with previous twrp 3.1.1-0
Thanks a lot for this. Does it properly decrypt F2FS data?

I don't use encryption so I cannot say. If you can test it for me that would be appreciated
UPDATE:

It should not reset your settings every time you boot into recovery, unless there is something wrong with your /sdcard/TWRP folder. Can you send a recovery log (Advanced > Copy Log)?
Will do that after finishing the install of the rom i am doing now.

Thank you. I ask because I am not having that issue at all. Maybe also try re-flashing recovery via fastboot before everything too.
what i did was this. Booted into bootloader. erased recovery, flashd your recovery and booted into it. wiped to allow changes and made changges to settings. Then booted back into rom. The rom i tried it with was stock 7.1.1.
I just finished installing velocity rom and flashed your twrp, same result. I did copy the log. said in twrp that it was copied to /data/media/recovery.log but the log is no were to be found on the phone. Did search the whole phone with root explorer

when i try to do a backup i get error unable to mount storage

Can you flash my twrp and send log please? It is the correct log. I just need to see what's going on with mine. Thanks.
i can but after flashing your twrp then flash the old one again and copy the log to the sdcard ? Cause yours says it copies the log but there is no log on the sdcard.

That's odd. I was on Flash's 3.1.0-4 F2FS build and flashed mine right over that build and everything works fine for me (log copying works, settings stick fine, etc..), so maybe try flashing his build, then mine. Without a log, I can't really do much, since I, and nobody else yet has experienced the same issues. I'm going to do some work on it today, and I'll try to get a new build out tonight.
Thanks for your time and help. I downloaded 3.1.0-4 F2FS and 3.1.1-6 F2FS but on both the same. All version dont show anything on the sdcard when i go to advanced/file manager in twrp. So no idea what is causing it but almost sure the problem is on my side.

Perhaps it is just your device. Anyways, I uploaded a new build, maybe try this one out. If it does not, try reflashing stock twrp 3.1.1 and then coming back to an F2FS modified one. Hope the best.

Thing is, by the time I posted, I hadn't realized he updated his. But the things that are different are basically the kernel the recovery image is built with (we use our own kernels), and the support. I will be actively building and supporting while The Flash has pretty much moved on from shamu to angler. Any bugs that arise I will try to fix and I will always be trying to keep everything updated. Over time our builds will start to become more and more different.

[RECOVERY][UNOFFICIAL][Sanders] TWRP-3.2.1-r20 (64bit Supported!)

Unofficial TWRP for Moto G5S Plus (Sanders)
Additional Features over Official TWRP:
Supports flashing of both 32bit and 64bit ROMs and Kernels.
OREO Images/ROMs support.
Decryption and Encryption support.
No SuperSU by default.
No TWRP app.
No HTC Dumlock cruft.
Updated pigz compressor (slightly faster and more tolerant of corruption).
NTFS support(Both Read and Write).
Covers more partitions for nandroid backup (OEM, FSG and FSC).
Experimental support for SD cards that are partitioned for partial adopted storage and partial removable storage.
Faster I/O performance.
Fixed Gapps/aroma freeze issues.
IMPORTANT!!! : READ INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING TO FLASHING PROCESS..!!
At first boot twrp will ask for "Swipe to allow modifications for /system" and if you choose to allow it system partition will get modified. So if you choose to reboot back to OS without performing anything in twrp, the OS won't boot (as verity check is enabled in stock OS/kernel) . To avoid this you have to flash either Magisk or flash any of the verity disabler zips available on xda.
Force encryption is enabled by default in stock OS and twrp will successfully decrypt /data at first boot if all goes well
If in case decryption doesn't go fine, twrp will popup a dialog box asking for password and that means decryption went wrong and you would need to wipe data once via twrp wipe options and reboot back to twrp for functioning of /data
Flashing Instructions:
Using Existing TWRP:
Reboot to recovery > Click on Install > Install Image > recovery > select recovery image and flash > reboot to recovery
Other Methods(Fastboot) :
Make sure you have unlocked bootloader
Reboot to bootloader
Enter following command in terminal: fastboot flash recovery twrp-****.img (if you want permanent flash) or fastboot boot twrp-****.img (if you want temporary boot)
Incase your device is encrypted (while coming from stock rom), Follow these steps to decrypt:
Reboot to recovery > cancel the password prompt > mount all partitions > Format Data/Userdata (on f2fs) > Reboot Recovery > Mount all partitions again > Flash Magisk > Reboot
Now you are free to use Stock ROM (Decrypted) or Flash any custom rom you want.

Only one that has actually be working for me ever since I got the phone. Thank you for your efforts.
this seems to suffer from the same thing the stock rom/kernel suffers from, the weird f2fs bug that makes certain mounts fail. geneticengineer has shared a kernel that fixes this in stock rom , maybe you could get in touch with him about how he updated f2fs
Thank you for your work, this seems to work well on my device. If you would like to swap the kernel, I posted a newer firmware NPS26.116-45 here:https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74325160&postcount=33

Well my guess is that the kernel in the present twrp is from the -26 firmware posted in the other thread. That firmware was US Retail also. The OP in the other thread states in can be used on other models. But I am not going to tell you that because I do not know. I have not found any other firmware for the sanders model.

Afaik it doesnt affect TWRP, you just need to be on a custom kernel if you are running stock rom.
Twrp has nothing to do with it.
If you face any problem flashing anything then post a screenshot or log.

TWRP backup is frozen at 13% completed. The progress bar is still showing its animation.
I unlocked the bootloader, and then rebooted. Android came up with the language selection screen. I powered off, connected the phone to the PC, and booted into TWRP (not flashed yet):
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-3.1.1-sanders-r7.img
I did not let TWRP format /data.
Then I started a backup, selecting all partitions, so that I could always go back after flashing TWRP and Magisk.
Does anyone know why backup is stuck at 13%? Last log line says "Backing up System..."
I tapped "Cancel" after two hours. That stopped the progress bar animation, but not the backup itself.
BTW: I used TWRP from this thread, the one in another thread freezes at the TWRP boot logo.
Edit: after two hours I killed the backup by powering down (the only way it seemed). On retry it froze at 21%.
Edit 2: Retried, this time backing up everything except system. No problem. I then tried to backup system. Frozen at 1%. What is the problem here?
Edit 3: Finally, a complete backup of system! Only one to go: system_image. But unfortunately that froze at 0%. Every subsequent try freezes at 1666MB (40%). The card has over 30GB free. I tried backup to USB-OTG, but that also froze.

Might be due to data partition being encrypted, you cant write anything in it without decrypting it first.
Format data and reboot recovery, then make the backup. You can flash magisk after taking the backup.
Btw r9 new release on its way with some really important changes

I was not trying to write the backup to the data partition, but to external SD card (tried OTG-USB as well without success).
I have flashed TWRP, formatted the data partition, and flashed Magisk. I have not tried to create a new backup yet. First I want to find out why Magisk does not pass the Safetynet check.

Sorry I wasn't aware you weren't still on stock. That kernel will only work on stock. I would verify with the maintainer of AOSP extended ROM that the kernel is patched to work with Magisk.

[RECOVERY LOCKED/Nougat/7.0][G950U/W] Safestrap Recovery v4.09 B01 [Apr 19, 2019]

Samsung Galaxy S8 (Snapdragon)
PLEASE READ READ READENTIRE OP
"ALL MAJOR WORK DONE BY HASHCODE SO GO GIVE HIM SOM THANKS.DO NOT POST ANY BUG OR ISSUE COUSED BY THIS RECOVERY IN ORIGINAL THREAD BY HASHCODE, POST HERE AND I WILL HELP YOU."
CURRENT PROJECT STATUS:
BETA v4.09-B01 [Nougat:7.0]
WHAT IS SAFESTRAP?
Safestrap is a Bootstrap / Recovery for locked bootloader phones. The goal is to avoid touching your primary system (I'll call this "stock" system) and only flash or make large changes to another place on your phone that Safestrap treats as a "2nd system" (in this case, it's a series of virtual ROM slots located on the internal emmc area: "/sdcard"). Once installed, you will see a "Splashscreen" giving you the option to hit "menu" to enter recovery. The recovery portion of Safestrap is now based on TWRP 3.3.0 (a touch based recovery) and you can perform .zip installs, backups and restores here. The additional features I've added to TWRP are mostly located under the "Boot Options" menu:
Here you can create virtual ROM-slots for flashing ROMs. NOTE: The bigger you make the /data partition the less room you will have to make other ROM-slots.
You can activate a new ROM-slot by choosing the slot you wish to make active and then selecting the "Activate" button. Once active, you will see the "rom-slot#" up in the top of the screen shown in green. If you make the "stock" ROM active, then you can see it in the top shown in red.
Once a ROM-slot is active, all actions you would normally perform using TWRP are directed to that ROM-slot. For example, "Install" to flash a .zip, backup and restore.
HOW DO I INSTALL SAFESTRAP?
Requirement: Root
[Safestrap pre V4.07] Requirement: busybox. Grab "Busybox" from the Play Store and run the installer.
APK install:
Once installed, open up the Safestrap application, Agree to the disclaimer that you won't try to sue me and hunt me down with a rifle if you manage to break your phone..
Then use the "Install Recovery" button. You should see the current version down in the lower left corner of the window. And the "Status:" should say "Installed" when you're done.
From there you can reboot and you *should* see a new splash screen during the boot up. While this is showing you can enter Safestrap Recovery using the [ menu ] button.
Flashable zip:
Flash using Safestrap recovery or FlashFire.
HOW DO I ENTER RECOVERY?
During each reboot a splashscreen will be displayed showing whether the device is running a rom-slot or on the "Stock ROM".
Press the button shown on the screen to either enter "RECOVERY" or "CONTINUE" booting (or the hard button underneath each option).
HOW DO I UPGRADE SAFESTRAP?
APK:
Push the APK up to your sdcard.
Boot back into the "stock" rom-slot.
Open your old Safestrap app and use the "Uninstall Recovery" button
Browse to where you pushed the APK
Click on it and install like normal
Once installed, open the APK, Grant SU access, Use the "Install Recovery" button.
Flashable zip:
Flash using Safestrap recovery or FlashFire.
KNOWN ISSUES:
- Sometimes the installation doesn't work correctly. If you don't see the splashscreen after a rebooting. Install Safestrap again.

WARNING: Safestrap is heavily modified to be "Safe" for your device. Do not download TWRP from their website and expect it to work the same way. Also TWRP does not support Safestrap, tho some issues that may come up will be TWRP dependant, please try and contact myself or look on the forums for your device for answers before hunting down TWRP people. They won't be able to help w/ Safestrap specific questions.
Special Thanks To
@Hashcode, DeesTroy & TeamWin for all their hard work making TWRP such a fantastic recovery.
@jrkruse for pointing me that S8 has permissive root. @partcyborg for getting root on S8.

Recovey uses different mount point, recovery log can help.
Thank you
If the main OS becomes unbootable due to a bootloop or something of that sort, is it possible to get back to SS? What does it take to convert Odin-flashable firmware into TWRP/SS flashable firmware?

Thanks a bunch for this bad a#$ tool/utility this makes my life as an avid modder so much easier when flashing and modding system files awesome work and yes I did have to change the mount points to get my zip to flash and aroma is working as well!!!!!!!!! :good::highfive::good:
Dang Ive been busy all stinkin day and just come across it.
Nice......
Whoa, this is awesome! So this isn't exactly unlocking the bootloader, right? It's just one of the first custom recoveries working on Snapdragon? This is super cool, thank you!

Just wait, I will start working on new ROM soon.
Also stock odin flashable including SS and ROOT (flashing ENG boot to enable them).
Damn, I never thought I'd see the day So I the battery is still locked to 80% right? Anyway good job and best of luck in future developments man!
Confirmed working on G950W. Great job! One nitpick I have about is that scrolling is incredibly laggy/stuttery, otherwise the whole package works fine other than the rom slots.

Will try to fix lag issue soon.
Does this work for all snapdragon S8s, or only the unlocked variants? I have the Tmobile version and would love this.
Also, any ROMs that come from this, will they still have the 80% battery life issues if the custom ROM doesn't use root (I'm not sure if all custom ROMs require root or not). Do the ROMs still have to be based on stock samsung, or could we see AOSP style ROMs with this?

Support all snapdragon variants of S8. Unless they has different partition layout.
How does this affect things like knox flag and safetynet? Do we have access to system and kernel?

Bootloaders still locked. So Knox isn't tripped but as you have to be rooted to do this is say safety nets broke
