Introduction:
Team Win Recovery Project, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. We started from the ground up by taking AOSP recovery and loading it with the standard recovery options, then added a lot of our own features. It's a fully touch driven user interface , no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Key Features:
Touchscreen driven with real buttons and drag-to-scroll
XML-based GUI that allows full customization of the layout true theming!
Settings are saved to the sdcard and persist through reboots
Ability to choose which partitions to back up and which to restore
Ability to choose to compress backups now with pigz (multi-core processor support for faster compression times)
Onscreen keyboard
Decryption of /data
Easy selection of internal/external storage
See changelog below for new features
In addition to the above new features, TWRP features a scripting engine that allows an app to send commands to the recovery for the recovery to perform during startup. We call this scripting engine OpenRecoveryScript. This engine will be put to use immediately in the GooManager app. GooManager will be able to install recoveries automatically for most supported devices. The app will also let you choose to install multiple zips from within Android, wipe cache & dalvik, and run a backup.

There is a high probability that this will cause an unrecoverable brick, as reported to me:
fstable in this cwm isn't a SGII partition table. The recovery will not work at all and can definitively cause bricks.

I know this is true as touch recovery has already caused bricks on other devices, the Note, for example. Let's not share dangerous methods like this where people who don't know any better might suffer the consequences.

first time to install this type of recovery from unrooted N3, do i need to be rooted first before I flash this thru Odin? or i can straight away flash this and have my twrp installed rightaway. where to put the tar file, is it still at the PDA? can this also trigger the dreaded KNOX counter?

You do not need to root first. Can flash it straight away. Place it in PDA using odin. And YES definitely will trigger KNOX counter.
This is not the OP's original work and does not belong in the OD section. A member from TeamWin should be posting an official release for the International Note 3 soon.

If you have a F460K I do it by holding volume down with power, then when you see the lg logo IMMEDIATELY let go of both and press and hold volume up with volume down. It takes some good (fast) timing but works.
I hear the F460S is volume up with power instead but can not confirm personally.

Its a fully touch driven user interface no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. CHANGELOG for 3.0.2-0:
-Fix a bug with the input box that affected masked inputs (passwords). This fixes decrypt of full device encryption on devices that support decrypt. This bug also impacts encrypted backups. Users are highly encouraged to stop using 3.0.1 if you use encrypted backups or if you need decrypt of data in TWRP.
-Add Greek translation to some builds.
Download the 1.Zip or 2.Img for your device (in Downloads Section)
1 - You can use zip for flashing over current Custom Recovery
or
2 - You can flash the "recovery.img" with dd on your recovery partition
L3 II:
1. switch2twrp3-vee3.zip (TWRP 3.0.2-0)
2. recovery.img (TWRP 3.0.2-0)
L1 II:
1. switch2twrp3-v1.zip (TWRP 3.0.2-0)

The OP says "L3II and L1II". It doesn't say anything about E420 not being supported.
In other words, yes, you should be able to use it on an E420.
Thanks work fine but the name of device is "v1" don't "vee3"

Backup-Restore function working fine so far, only issue I am seeing is phone is heating up pretty faster than before while backing up in compression mode.
Another minor thing is that earlier when entering recovery mode a purple light used to blink, now its missing.
Just saw this now and I'm really grateful. Big ups to you, man. Great work.
And I was afraid there would be no 3.2.1 for this device;
@Chippa_a makes it possible - intensified thanks! :highfive::good::good:
Thank you!!

Weird. Try using flash tool to fastboot the image if the flashable zip doesn't work for you.
Updated from TWRP, backup/restore works, no problems so far apart from it needs more than a minute till TWRP GUI appears after boot. Thanks for update.
Do you use the stock kernel? I installed the recovery built by oshmoun in the omnirom thread. It uses the aosp kernel. It starts faster, has a better sdcard naming and can flash oem images. Maybe you could try this kernel.
I use stock kernel (Pexorom 4.5) so this may be the reason for the delay.
I mean the kernel used with the recovery, not the rom kernel.

This is what i did. Download img, place file on phone. Download twrp app, pick choose a file, browse to recovery.img, flash. Power off, boot to recovery = win.
Reboot to system, retry installing new update = great success.

I dont know if there is a connection, but i've tested the recovery with OmniROM 7.1.2, where display is not responding. It can be installed, shows 3.2.1, but display remains dead 4 touch.

Same result, whether fastboot or flashtool, display is dead.
Certainly missed ODM LOIRE v12, v11 is installed.
Not really sure is the latest bootloader.
Does restoring a backup change the bootloader as well?
Edit: Solved: the answer is 'yes'.
3.2.1 does not work @7.1.2 restore because of outdated bootloader.

Is Omni 7.1.2 kernel (more I have not tried) or not current boot loader the reason?
