How to recover data on an encrypted SD Card ? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear All,
I encrypted my SD card using the encrypt SD Card feature in Android Lollipop. Later, I upgraded my phone to CM13 Marshmallow and I removed the SD Card from my phone during the entire process. Once the new ROM has been installed I encrypted my phone internal memory using the same password as the one I used to encrypt my SD Card.
Once I reinserted my SD Card, the phone couldn't read the encrypted files stored in there. Everytime I try to open a file (image, music, video...) it says "the file couldn't be opened it could be corrupted or damaged".
Can anyone tell me how to restore data on an encrypted SD card ? Of course, I know the exact password that was used to encrypt the data on the SD Card.

[Q] Just encrypted my device, did it encrypt external SD card also?

I'm a custom ROM on Android 4.2.2 and used the Settings > Privacy > Encrypt phone feature. What exactly did this do, did the encrypt the internal SD card, the external SD card, the entire filesystem (i.e. root of filesystem), or some combination?
If it didn't encrypt my external SD card, how can I do so? But if it did, how can I access the contents of my external SD card (after providing my PIN/password) from a laptop when I put the SD card in it? Would I just mount it like I do any other encrypted USB drive with LUKS?
If not, then isn't it risky because if my phone gets broken and I must start from a new ROM, then I've lost my most recent data (backups could be a few days old). Or lets's say someone flashes a new ROM, the new ROM wouldn't be able to read the card, or would it be able to if you use the same PIN/password?

Encrypted internal /storage/sdcard0 cannot be read after installing new ROM while using same password, just checked.

Cant access files after SD Card Encryption

I encrypted all my files on my external SD card.
I then wiped and installed a new ROM.
Now i cannot read the files on my SD card.
Is this because it was all encrypted under the old ROM?
As far as I know the phone creates a unique key for the encryption, so you couldn't read the sd card in another phone. By changing the Rom you've effectively changed phone, so the sd card is locked.
Either format the card, if you don't need the data, or restore an earlier nandroid (if that will recreate the key) to access the card again if you need the data.

[Q] Memory card issues please help!

When i bought my android phone (Xolo Q800) the android which came with it was **** (I'm assuming corrupt/virus filled) and i put a 4gb memory card in it where the /DCIM/.thumbnail folder was equivalent to 60GB and this happened with 3 4GB memory cards. Now the issue is I tried formatting by phone and it doesnt do anything, by pc i tried Computer>Computer Management>Disk Management and tried formatting from there and it says Formatting Failed. I tried SD Card formatter "sdcard.org" which doesnt work and gives error "The memory card is write protected. Please release the write protect switch." Since this is a Micro SD card it doesnt have a write protect switch. Any help as to how i can format the card or anything or is it lost forever? Also to mention the files are in DCIM/.thumbnails and i cannot rename this files, delete this files, or format the memory card because of this any help please.

By any chance are you using an ADAPTER to format card on pc? ADAPTERS do have write protect switches on them.

SD card data not accessible.

Hi,
Today I flashed the stock rom on my Moto e2 3g for some work. After the work was done, I restored the full nandroid backup I had taken before flashing the ROM. Now, my SD card, which was formatted as internal is no more getting detected. When I insert it, the phone gives me an error stating unsupported SD card. When I tap on it, it asks me to format it. I cannot access the files through my phone. Can anybody tell me how I can get my data back or access the files? I'm currently on AOSPExtended 4.3. the backup taken was also of this rom.
Thank you in advance!
Edit 1: I had taken the backup of the key. I put the key in /data/misc/vold. Now my SD card gets detected as internal, but still I'm not able to access any data.
Edit 2: I can access the SD card in twrp by going to /external_sd/media/0. But I cannot access it in AOSPExtended.
I'm not sure of the model number, so please confirm if the stock you installed was MM. If you've partitioned your card separately for Adoptable storage then chances are that it will not be visible as a card, although check in Storage if the phone is able to see the card. If you can access your data through TWRP, best bet is to take a backup format your card as FAT and start fresh.

Need to recover ext4 protected SD card

Hello there.
I have android phone with 9.0 firmware. When I bought the SD card and installed it, my phone asked me how I would use it.
I selected this variant:
Internal storage:
You can store apps and data for this device only. If you move the SD card to another device, the SD card will be erased ("formatted"). After the SD card is erased, you can use it with the other device.

The problem is that:
I got bootloop after some manipulations with firmware. So I had to make Factory Reset. Before that I've removed SD card from phone. And now I can't use this SD, because it's ext4 and something like "protected". My PC can't open disk even with ext4 reading tools. When I install this SD to the phone, it asks to formate SD and select the option of use.
How can I get back my data from this SD card?
