Installed remix os 32 bit beta legacy version on new hard disk drive for dual boot but not able to boot.
First tried formatting the drive in NTFS format and then FAT32 but both are producing same results.
Currently stuck at 'detecting Android x-86'.
Checked secure boot option by typing msinfo32 in run, it is mentioned as Unsupported.
Any help remixers..

On the 2nd command line for booting in resident mode, is the SRC= set to RemixOS?

Find --set-root /RemixOS/kernel
Kernel /RemixOS/kernel root=/dev/ram0 android boot.hardware=remix_86 andro->
Initrd /RemixOS/initrd.IMG
Boot
Above commands are displayed and I am not able to see 'SRC='
When press edit on second line
<CREATE_DATA_IMG=1
Is displayed.
Help required..

Go into command line mode (c button I think); and see if you can locate /Remix; if you can't then neither can grub.
Try ls and ls [hd0,mrb1]/ etc and see if you can find it.
Depending on the output/error you might need to insmod msdos or run chkdsk on the parition

Help remixers
And to earlier question I was able to find SRC=RemixOS in second line

How did you install? I'm just surprised that stock legacy would be using a grub that old...

Have Windows 10 32 bit on my desktop ( not laptop but assembled desktop ).
Made a partition of 16Gb as D drive with C drive as Windows 10
Formatted D drive to Fat32
Downloaded Windows 32 bit from jide.
Using installer provided by jide installed it on D drive.
Finished installing.
After reboot system boots Windows 10 but will get a screen with Windows 10 and Remix OS option selected Remix OS.
After booting to remix OS got Resident mode option, it gives me 10 second time before which I need to click ESC. otherwise it directly boots and I get Android 'detecting error.
If I press escape I can go edit option

Have you checked if secure boot is disabled?

Was not able to find secure boot option in BIOS.
Updated latest BIOS (2009) version but no option of secure boot.
And in Windows secure boot is mentioned as Unsupported.

I also have this issue. When I boot up, it goes through the grub menu fine, and I can proceed from the USB write speed test (I have to "press enter to continue"), but after it does that, my machine resets. As in, the power goes off for about five seconds before starting up again.
Anybody have any ideas?
My system specs:
CPU: AMD FX-8350
RAM: 32GB
M/B: Asus M5A99FX-PRO-R2
Video: nVidia GeForce GTX 970
Sound: Creative X-Fi
I tryed to install an other version of Remix OS (1.5) but it also don't work. At the begining a thought that thé image "system.img" was missing but nothing else hapenned. I am starting to think that the problem is coming from the version and that we do have to wait for à better version. So I think they are not solutions yet.

well, going by their FAQ thingie, it's likely to be nVidia graphics cards causing the issue.

Hey,
Thank you. Somebody knows if Remix OS could work with NVIDIA in yhe futur ?
By pressing tab and typing "nomodeset" at one of the boot options, it boots successfully for me, but it's ugly as all hell, and there's am unsightly blinking text cursor in the middle of the screen
So we just have to write this command when they ask us which mode (resident/guest) we want ?

Yes. highlight "Resident" or "Guest" and press Tab. Then, add "nomodeset" to the end of the command and press Enter. It works for me, but it's not pretty. Not by a long shot.

It is not generaly solutio for "Remix does not boot" comonly problem. "nomodeset" is just one of various parameters which you can add to your GRUB kernel line. Here in second post (post with green check mark aka accepted answer) you have nice explanation what "nomodeset" does. Remix is in alpha stage and wont run on all hardware. If someone succsesfuly booted Remix on his own hardware with "nomodeset" parameter, it doesn't be case that you will also, on your hardware. I also can't bott Remix on my Toshiba Satellite L775D, and I was try many of kernel line parameters. From other side, I succesfully run Remix on other laptop (Acer Aspire something) without editing anything.

Install RemixOS on PC HDD Partition [GUIDE][NO USB][GRUB MULTIBOOT]

In this guide I will explain how to install RemixOS on PC with multiboot with any other OS. (Grub needed for multiboot)

}
First some points to get clear:
1- Can I use the hole partition as data and not a restricted size data.img? Yes, you can.
2- Can partition be ext4 ? Yes it can and it must. (I've seen people over xda saying you need fat32 for RemixOS. That's not true. RemixOS is android-x86 based and it inherits its ext4 support.
3-Can I make system files editable? Yes, although they will use much more space than when system is compressed.
Let's start: (START UBUNTU OR WHATEVER OS YOU CAN USE TO WRITE GRUB )
1-First use your preferred partition manager to create an ext4 partition where RemixOS will be installed.(8GB or more recommended).
2-Create a folder called "android" in the new created partition.
3- Download latest RemixOS ISO from official page.
4-Decompress ISO contents and copy all to android folder in new partition.
5-Create "data" folder into android so it would look like /android/data.
6- Add new grub entry to /etc/grub.d/40_custom (OR WATHEVER FILE YOUR GRUB INSTALLER USE) like this:
Code:
menuentry "Remix-OS" {
set root='(hdx,y)'
linux/android/kernel root=/dev/ram0 androidboot.hardware=remix_x86_64 androidboot.selinux=permissive quiet SRC=android DATA=/data
initrd/android/initrd.img}
PAY ATTENTION IN THE CODE ABOVE - (hdx,y) makes reference to the partition where you are installing RemixOS, Generally it is (hd0,y) where 'y' is the number of the partition
7-Execute on terminal
Code:
sudo update-grub
(OR WATHEVER CODE YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR GRUB )
8-Reboot and boot into RemixOS .
For the ones who want editable system files:
ATTENTION: WE WILL NEED A DEBIAN DISTRO LIKE UBUNTU OR ANY OTHER DISTRO WITH squashfs-tools
1-Move system.sfs from android folder to whatever folder you want (outside RemixOS partition).
2-Open terminal and install squashfs-tools with
Code:
sudo apt-get install squashfs-tools
3-In terminal go to the folder where you put sytem.sfs and execute
Code:
unsquashfs -d system system.sfs
We'll see a new folder is created with a file called system.img inside.
4-Copy system.img to /android folder in RemixOS partition
5-Mount unsquashed system.img:
Code:
sudo mkdir /media/tmp && sudo mount system.img /media/tmp
We now can see system.img was mounted and you can access it through file explorer and edit files aswell.
6-Reboot and enjoy RemixOS with editable system files.
(you can start Ubuntu and edit files mounting system.img)
Going to try it now :fingers-crossed:

You need to use "sudo" to edit 40_custom...
By SD you mean SD Card?
If you are installing GRUB on an SD Card form the PC, I think you will need to copy /boot/grub folder in the root of your SD Card. I've never done that.. but those are the files Grub needs to work properly and when booting from SD Card I think the root for Grub is the SD Card so you need /boot/grub and all the files in there on your SD Card
If this not work read carefully the second answer here

I don't have any UEFI compatible PC to test... If you handle to add the entry to your grub it could work. Test and report :crossfingers:
I heard a lot of times that secure boot on uefi usually prevents chain boot...so think on disabling it if you find an error during the test.

Uefi bios only !
Hey Guys,
So i have download the beta on the Remix OS (32BIT) although for the life of me cannot get it working. I have a linx Tablet which doesn't seem to have legacy support within the BIOS. As far as i am aware the 32BIT version of the OS is Legacy only so how am i meant to install the OS? Here's what i have tried so far.
- Used the beta software to install Remix OS on the same drive, installs fine but when i restart the tablet it boots straight into windows 10. Also when looking at the boot manager there's nothing there to boot from.
Installed the 64 BIT version which also doesn't boot although if i go into my boot manager it appears but when selecting the screen goes black. Most likely due to the fact I'm trying to boot 64 BIT on a 32BIT tablet.
Now this seems like its going to be an issue for many people with 32BIT systems with no legacy option available.
Has anyone had luck getting this working ???

While booting, press ESC when it prompts you...to go to the main menu.
Press E
You will get 3 or 4 lines
Highlight the line that contains kernel and press E again
move left or right using the arrow keys
add those flags right after androidboot.hardware=remix_x86_64
Be sure to add spaces as needed.
Once done, press Enter.....then press B to boot.

Man,
Amazing.. This worked but i did not use any spaces between nomodeset and vga though. But unfortunately after rebooting, it gave the same problem again, so i restarted again to repeat the procedure but sadly this time it showed me error 15 and it is showing the same no matter what I do. It does not give the options to as it did in the first time.

Unless you put it in the grub file you have to add this code everytime you reboot. Can you edit the code in windows? You need the space so u don't confuse the pc.

realised that it needs to be changed in the grub file to make it permanent. Is there a way to do that? I have no idea.

Google Play Store - Couldn't sign in

Hello.
First note that i'm not a native english speaker and then should have some difficulties to write what I want to say. But if you ask me question about what I meant I should be able to answer.
I recently tried to test Remix OS on a USB flash drive. It was amazing. The only problem is that I tested it with the Guest Mod. Then when I wanted to use it with the resident/regular mod I had a problem... Everything goes slow... PRETTY SLOW.
Then I decided to create a partition on my HDD. I created a 21 GO NTFS partition, and copied the files contained in the Remix.iso file. Due to a bug of EasyBCD on my computer I decided to use grub to boot into this partition with Remix OS on it.
Here is my grub config:
set root=(hd0,4)
linux /kernel initrd=/initrd.img quiet root=/dev/ram0
androdboot.hardware=remix_x86_64
androidboot.selinux=permissive quiet SERIAL=random DATA= SRC= CREATE_DATA_IMG=1
initrd /initrd.img
Everything is fine, I can boot and run Remix OS... I started the Google Service Activator, rebooted my computer, but then... When I tried to run the Play Store it display me "Couldn't sign in - There was a problem communicating with Google servers ... Try Later". I've tried everything, reinstall... Changing my configs... Delete Play Store and Google Service datas... Nothing works...
If you have any solution, i'll like to see them ^^'
Thank you.
Last night I encountered at random the same problem as you.
Does booting from a flash drive in guest mode (not the install you currently have on your hard drive) give you the same results?
For me personally, for some reason my hard disk install got messed up and couldn't connect to Google Play services. I reinstalled the OS to fix the problem and haven't encountered it since.

Does booting from a flash drive in guest mode (not the install you currently have on your hard drive) give you the same results?
For me personally, for some reason my hard disk install got messed up and couldn't connect to Google Play services. I reinstalled the OS to fix the problem and haven't encountered it since.

Still having the problem ^^'
On the USB flash drive in Guest Mode I can connect on the Play Store.
I formated my partition on my HDD, unzip the iso in it, create the empty "data" folder. Start Remix OS on the HDD, activated play store, restarted, but still got the error while launching the Play Store... ^^'
Did I miss something ?
Is the grub config right ?
Is Just unzipping the .iso a wrong way of installation ?
Make sure you have this in Grub:
androidboot.selinux=permissive quiet SERIAL=random
Without a serial number... no Google play access
Check in:
Settings/about tabled/status/serial number
If your unit has a serial number
Also check ntfs r/w file access
Cheers
Hey, thanks for your reply.
Here is my grub config:
set root=(hd0,4)
linux /kernel initrd=/initrd.img quiet root=/dev/ram0
androdboot.hardware=remix_x86_64
androidboot.selinux=permissive quiet SERIAL=random DATA= SRC= CREATE_DATA_IMG=1
initrd /initrd.img
Then I already have the androidboot.selinux=permissive quiet SERIAL=random ^^'
I've verified, and yes, there is a serial number in the settings.
What do you mean by "checking ntfs r/w file access" ?
Sideload a older version of playstore and check
Where can I find an older .apk compatible with Remix OS (3.0) please ^^ ?

I just noticied that before trying to active the Play Store I had a random Serial Key. But EVERYTIME i reinstall Remix OS and try to activate the Play Store I've the same Serial displayed.
Is it normal that the Play Store Activator is changing the Serial ?
And is it normal I get the same Serial after using the Activator ?

Sorry real new to Remix, the only thing I can help you with is a suggestion for reinstall. It fixed the problem for me.
Didn't re-install
What I had to do was add the SERIAL=random to grub. Once I saw that I had the random serial number in the Status, go into the App Drawer, right click on the Play Store, App Details, then Storage, then choose Clear Data and reboot. Do not attempt to launch Play Store unless you reboot after you Clear Data.
