What's next after root? custom recovery? unlock bootloader? - Verizon LG V10

I think devs really need to invest time on this phone since it's the last phone that might have sd card slot/ and removable battery.

bootloader unlocking?

Sorry for the stupid question but I want to unlock my bootloader and I'm a bit confused about whether my sim card needs to be unlocked or not, so does my sim card need to be unlocked first?
I figured it best to ask before I attempt it and brick my phone.
No it doesn't.

Unlocking my bootloader

OK, I bought my flyer last week. I wasn't going to upgrade to HC but couldn't stand knowing that there was an update just sitting there waiting for me. So last night, I pulled the trigger. I actually like most of the changes... Thing that some people said bothered them doesn't bother me. The one thing that does would be losing the buttons. But I think I'll be able to adjust.
Ok, so I was wondering what benefits would I get by using HTC unlock bootloader? I'm still not sure if I want to root. I have my thunderbolt rooted and if it wasn't for the wifi hot spot I would put it back to stock. There are just too many bugs that are associated with custom roms. Don't get me wrong, it's fun to see new things... But there is always bugs.
Anyway, do I gain anything by unlocking? I know about the warranty thing, that doesn't bother me. Are there any benefits that I'm not aware of?
Thanks

Nope. If you are not going to install any custom ROMs, or custom recovery, there is no purpose to unlocking the bootloader. You will have accomplished nothing and voided your warranty.
If you ever want root and/or to flash custom ROMs, I'd advise doing the downgrade and Revolutionary method. Unlocked bootloader means you have to flash using fastboot, and doesn't give you root either.

[Q] Ready to update to ICS, Need advice on unrooting and rerooting PLEASE :)

Hi everyone. Hope you are all having a great weekend. I am I am finally ready to update to ICS. I am unlocked and rooted, not s-off. I am tech-tarded so I need small words
I've seen the threads on here about how to re-lock and unroot, but once I am upgraded how do I unlock and re-root?
Also, I know you have to put the drivers on the root of the sd card. Is that the internal phone sd or does it have to be an actual micro sd? My dumb ass broke my sd card and I haven't gotten to town to get a new one yet. I am scared I'll brick my phone if I do this wrong so I wanted to consult the geniuses of XDA for some advice before I attempt anything.
Thank you all very much for your advice!

you have to go back to htc.dev and unlock, if you still have the unlock token you can still use that, or get a new one. then flash amon ra through fastboot commands
If you are unlocked and rooted already then you don't need to redo it unless you run the RUU. Somewhere in the forums is the latest OTA already rooted and deodexed. You can flash it and still keep root.

I'll write you up some instructions, but I need to know what OS your computer has (OS X? Windows 7?) and whether you have adb and fastboot, or HTCSync installed (if you don't know, then you don't). Also, do you want to upgrade to CyanogenMod 9 or just get the normal updates to your phone?

[Q] Is it possible to just root the HTC Desire 601?

Hi all!
I am going to buy a new smartphone and the HTC DEsire 601 seems ok for my usage. Moreover it looks really good, i like it. Before getting it, however, i totally need to be sure about one thing: is it possible to simply root the phone?
I have read several threads here and all of them suggest to start by unlocking the bootloader as a first step and as a second step you can get root access. I would like to keep the bootloader locked and i don't think i will need to get S-OFF. So my question is, if i keep my phone bootloader-locked and S-ON, can i get root access?
Root is really important for me because there are 3-4 fundamental apps that i use and these require root access. Is there anyone who have found himself/herself in this situation? Which root method can work direcltly on a brand new HTC desire 601 running jelly bean? Any personal experience?
Thanks in advance,
bye

To root your phone you need to unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and flash the latest SU binaries.
If its not to late, I would avoid the desire 601. Not really reliable. 4 of my friends got this one and they all had problems. 2 of them died when on charge (defective motherboard ----> qhsusb_dload mode). Another one is having issue with wifi not being able to turn on, he must power off the phone, remove the sim and sd card and reboot each time the wifi hangs. They all had the infamous battery drain issue which they solved using some Xposed mod. So on 4 devices, 4 of them were having software problem (battery drain) and 3 of them had hardware problem....

Risk of used phone with unlocked bootloader?

Hey guys this is probably a lame question... does any risk come with buying a phone with an unlocked boot loader?
I bought an OnePlus 5 from ebay used in great shape. The seller advised the the phone was rooted with Android 10.
When i start the phone it does have a warning advising the bootloader is unlocked and cautions the OS may not be secure.
The phone did have what seemed to be a fresh install of Android 10... but after trying a few root check apps ... didnt seem to be rooted.
I went ahead and reinstalled android 10 ...
Now that it has what i know to be a clean copy of A10... do i need to worry about the unlocked boot loader? Could there be any other
way my personal info could be compromised ?
Thanks!!!

Wen you are rooted it compromises the system. If you want to relock it search for the code to use in cmd prompt in adn tools. Really easy to relock. But will wipe all your data any time you lock or unlock the bootloader
