Will unlocked bootloader not going to have OTA updates on ROM MIUI dev - Xiaomi Redmi 3 Questions & Answers

Hi Guys,
Will unlocked bootloader not going to have OTA updates on ROM MIUI dev?, i just got permission yesterday and wanted to unlock, but if it makes my phone unable to receive OTA, i will not go thru with it, the reason i wanted to unlock is to enable root.

Hey.
I have unlocked my phone a few weeks ago.
On dev ROM, I am still able to receive OTA updates, but I noticed that TWRP is not there anymore.
For root access, you don't even need to unlock phone. Look up guides here or on miui forums on how to achieve that. You can usually download pre-rooted Roms or root it by literally running one apk.
Good luck!

u wll get update. u can downlod them but they wll ny apply bcz twrp wll there. so u can simply use a trick u can flash stock recovery by any method like flasify( dont remember app name correctly) then can update and after it flash custom recovery again.
sorry for my bad English

how about if i don't use/install twrp at all, i just need to enable root on dev rom, i should get update just fine right?

You are correct
No need for TWRP if you simply want to use rooted dev ROM.

[CLOSED][Q] Can I update my phone OTA when ICS is released for the XMP?

Hello,
My phone is rooted and I was wondering if I could update my phone OTA when ICS is released? Will it de-root my phone or brick it? Cause I wanna try out the stock ICS ROM before installing a custom one? Plus if I need to un-root it, how can I do it? I used Doom_Lord's root method.
ICS, which will come out end of this month, might be able OTA, although I am not sure. OTA will ONLY brick your phone, if you HAVE unlocked bootloader. Every other case, no bricks for you.
Root will probably be lost, because it's another version of Android, which changes almost everything. If you have rooted phone, you don't have to deroot it for updates. I have seen a program in Development section, which can also Un-root.
Check this read carefully though.Until now you can always update your phone if you're rooted, if you do it OTA root stays.More likely we'll be able to update to ICS while rooted.
How about after installed locked bootloader CWM.
Can we upgrade to ICS through OTA?
CWM shouldn't affect ICS.
And yes, I think ICS will be able over OTA, although I am not sure.

THank you.
You mean I did't install the custom rom.
It's ok.
If I install the custom rom.
Then can't upgrade to ICS?
Is it correct?

Correct, if you have custom ROM, then you probably have to get back to stock first and lock bootloader.

My bootloader is unlocked and I have a custom ROM based on the Stock ROM .62. So If I do update, will it brick my phone?

It is always safer to lock bootloader and return to stock.

Can you send me a link on how to lock the bootloader and how to return to stock ROM. To go back to stock ROM I need to use"flash tool"...I have no idea what that is.

Locking bootloader is also done with Flashtool, if you used official method.
If done with S1Tool, you can use that program to relock bootloader.
Flashtool file attached.
To return to stock ROM, I like WotanServer. It's easy and quick, less messing than with Flashtool. For Flashtool you need to find correct files, WotanServer just wants to know, what ROM version you want and you will need a free account also. Everything else is done by WotanServer.

simply use s1tool to patch the bootloader even though you unlocked it
when you use s1tool your bootloader seems locked but you can install custom roms and update your phone using either Sony Ericsson PC Companion nether SEUS
Both Benefit

Is there an official date for the ICS Update release yet? Everybody is saying is at the end of this month or early on April, but don't have an official date? BTW i have my live rooted, but I modified/deleted some system apps, is there a problem with that? Will I have to reflash my phone again to update via OTA or something? Thanks, and sorry for lot of questions

No official date yet. For LWW, it is planned end of April/begin May, some other phones like Arc S and Neo V get it earlier, why, I dont know. It was written so in official blog post.
As long as you have stock ROM, you won't have any problems with updating. Reflashing is not needed.
If you have unlocked bootloader, then doing OTA will brick your phone, just lock it before updating. If you haven't unlocked, then it's okay.

Unlocked Evo 3d and ICS Update...when it arrives lol

Hi, i have unlocked my Evo 3D using HTCDEV.com. I was wondering if it will be ok and safe to do the ICS OTA update when it arrives? Also could someone please advise me on my next steps to root my Evo 3D so i can use custom roms etc. All i have managed to do is up to yet is unlock my handset using HTCDEV.com, but i am unsure what further steps i need to take to root my device as there are so many different view and topics on the subject and it all gets a little confusing as what to do next. My HBoot is 1.49.0018, and i really dont know what to do next, so could someone be so kind as to advice on what further steps are required.........Thank-you for any help offered.
You might already have done this but just to make sure.
Did you flash a recovery.img?
I wouldn't bother, there will undoubtedly be a pre-rooted, cwm flashable version available within a day of the update landing.

Don't know if it will update the hboot but I suggest you downgrade and s-off it, if there is any method available for gsm...
And to flash a ROM, you don't need to be rooted. Just flash a custom recovery.img like 4ext, twrp, cwm. Then flash any ROM that you like. Almost every ROM here comes with super user. So after flashing a custom ROM made by a Dev , you will be rooted. If you want to root your stock ROM and don't want to flash custom roms for now, just flash a custom recovery first, then go to recovery flash this zip if you want SuperSU by Chainfire----------> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
OR
this one if you want Superuser by ChainsDD---->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312971
The second one might not work...
@iTzLOLtrain......I haven't flashed a recovery.img as of yet because i am unsure of the software to use buddy. If you could advise on which software you think is the best then i am more than keen to have a shot. This is my first time ever with android and i am really scared of 'bricking' my handset. I was under the impression if i wanted to install custom roms that i would have to root my device first?
@mnomaanw......Hi bud, i have tried the links you posted but i just get a 404 page not found error.........Cheers

Oops sorry....should work now.
Next step is to flash a custom recovery like 4ext which has no issues at all and then flash your su file this is how you obtain root access after this you flash a custom Rom

Ahhhh, I remember my first time. Do an awful lot of searching and reading. Once you feel like you can't get anymore info on a subject, then try it. You may have an issue, which most people on here will help u with when ask. If you came from that fruity company, you should be very happy with what Mr. Android and his developers can do.

[Q] If I root on stock rom, do i still get OTA update?

I swear this type of question must be asked in every thread. Try SuperSu and do some research for upgrading and keeping root. Rooting has been around for a while and there are ways around this. Honestly though why do people root if they want to get factory updates. You do realize that a factory updated rooted version would be out before or shortly after an official release is out....
OTA update and a rooted phone is not a big deal... Jus sayin
To answer your question directly...if you have stock recovery then yes. If you have custom recovery then no.
search next time but...
stock rom with root yes you will get updates.
If you have a custom recovery it may not flash.
I flash the tmobile ota ( the .28 one) with clockworks and all was fine.

[Q] HOX X+ International unlocked, rooted factory restore?

Hi,
I'm looking for a little help please. I have an international HOX X+ (on O2 ) that I unlocked and rooted using:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2213910&goto=newpost
At the time I did not want a ROM installed, just root so thats all I did. Since the release of Android 4.2.2 I wanted to get that installed, clearly the OTA update will not work with TWRP installed and I tried the Insertcoin 5.0.5 ROM, as that has all I need. But it simply fails with unable to load zip. (iirc)
Soo, I want to get my phone back to stock image - no twrp so that I can perform the OTA update and then re-root. Is this possible?

Accidentally accepted the 4.3 OTA

So, this morning I accidentally accepted the 4.3 OTA update. I know I can't install any custom roms because of the locked bootloader I now have. Are there any stock roms I can install?

You are on the stock rom. What you have is what you get. You can root and use xposed framework for some things, but that's it.

Kingo root is what I used to get root access it also provides an unroot option.
