Bootloader question - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Can anyone confirm if Euro version of G5 has unlocked bootloader ?
If yes are we going to see same leven of developement as 6p for this phone ?

I'll be checking when I get mine.
Could well be locked with option to unlock through LG dev site like EU G4 though...

i seriously cant wait for the arrival of mine..
ofc i'll check for flashability

well i've got mine now. i have yet to figure out if its locked or not.
isn't there some fastboot keypress combination anymore? seems like i'm unable to get into fastboot at all.
ok.. installed the lg usb driver..
using adb reboot fastboot..
reboots to android
using adb reboot bootloader..
boots into the bootloader <3

seems locked but unlockable :/

From the LG Developer Forum:
Hello,
We are planning to support bootloader unlocking for LG G5 for the European market with model number H850 soon.
It will be available this month.
When it's ready, we will let you know via our website.
Thank you.

The EU version is locked out of the box, but some folks are getting email responses from LG stating that they have plans to unlock that version in the near future. They also state that there are no plans to unlock any other variant.

uh. two posts since i edited mine. i managed to get into the bootloader and provided a screen scan (using a scanner.. srsly..)

How come the fastboot oem unlock or fastboot flashing unlock commands don't work on the international model? or is it just me!

i just thought it was similar to the t mobile version where you could unlock however dm verify stops from flashing anything

T-Mobile USA variant has a "semi unlocked bootloader" because you can Unlock it successfully but only write commands on fastboot are disabled
.... Still for few time

Bootloader unlockable?

I've only seen information regarding the T-Mobile version having an unlockable bootloader. Is there any word on the AT&T version?
I'd love to know as well. Might have to go to T-Mobile if they have it truly unlocked
I have the ATT version and dev options has the OEM unlock option.

Hi Mojar, thanks for the response. Pardon my ignorance because I don't know how the process works - does that confirm the AT&T version can be rooted?
As far as I know, I could be wrong, if there is an OEM unlock option in the dev option. chances are they "may" be a hope for root access.
Well you guys can try to see if you can boot into fastboot and input the command to check if the bootloader is indeed unlockable

well i tried to get into fastboot from the tmobile steps and no go aparently att left out fastboot even with the oem unlock option checked, we only have download mode
If you browse the t-mobile forums you'll see they arent able to flash anything for root/recovery

No, your best bet if you really need root is to sell your ATT LG G5 and purchase an unlocked Tmobile version.. Looks like it will be sometime for the ATT version to gain root

Xperiavely, Bofino
Hello,
Well, I wanted to experiment with Gcam - Camera2api etc and other mods!
Since I can't find yet anything that works with this model, I wanted to re-lock the bootloader and remove the message on start up "Bootloader is unlocked etc etc" and also revert back to original firmware.
I used flashtool - latest version 9.28 (Androxyde) and successfully unlocked the bootloader!
When I tried to re-lock it (As I have done this with previous Xperia phones) I got the error in the 1st post!
If you need any more details please let me know!
Thank you,
John.

I did the same thing using fastboot unlock command. But for now there's no way to fix this. Flashing the stock firmware, does not fix the issue. In fact it worked on some of the previous devices. But this time I don't see any solutions. I even tried so many commands using fastboot. But non of em worked. Let's hope that Sony will release some kind of commands to relock the bootloader.

Question Error when trying to unlock bootloader

Hi all.
I'm trying to unlock the bootloader of my 8 Flip but am having a couple of issues. First one is that there's no "OEM Unlock" option in my Dev settings. I've tried running the official unlock tool anyay, and it errors out saying "Failed to unlock your device, please try again later.[11006]"
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Solved it - Just had to turn wifi off and use mobile data and it worked
My friend has an error code when unlocking the Bootloader. Do you know why?

To root the phone
where did you buy the phone? Some vendors sell phones that cannot be rooted.
You can see it with the app CPU-Z in System section if you see bootloader : no, you can't root
I was just about to unlock the bootloader to try to dump the recovery.img and use that to create a twrp image.
But there is a big warning saying:
Before you download, install, and use the Unlock Device App (“Service”), you understand that you need to take all risks in terms of quality and performance of the Service, including but not limited to: once you trigger the Service, you’re not able to recover your ASUS products to the original status at the time of manufacturing (“Original Product”) anymore. Original Products which is used with the Service (“Changed Product”) will no longer be regarded as the Original Products. The software updates will not be available to the Changed Product, and the digital content in the Changed Product may no longer be used. (...)

Does this mean I would not get security updates and later the Android 13? I only want to get twrp to be able to root the device. but losing the OS updates would be a big no-no.
Are those who have unlocked it getting updates? Can anyone confirm this?

Question Device is permanently unlocked

I have a moto g play 2021. I just restarted the phone & got a today at the bottom of the screen saying "device is permanently unlocked". I didn't do anything I haven't done before. I simply restarted. It's running Android 11, not rooted. What does that mean

It could be Carrier unlocked, meaning it can be used on other networks.
If the bootloader is unlocked you should see a splash screen every time it boots that the bootloader is unlocked.

It's not rooted, & it just happened once after rebooting. It hasn't happened before that I'm aware. I didn't get a pop-up like in the picture, just a toast message. I don't know if it's carrier unlocked or not.
Sounds to me like an app set to run on boot would be the cause for that toast message. Do you happen to have the Device Unlock app on your phone? I'm assuming you have phone variant for a specific network/carrier. I know that for T-Mobile's Device Unlock app, there are two options to unlock device: Permanent Unlock, and Temporary Unlock. If you recently met your carrier's requirements for unlocking your device, the actual unlock may have been done automatically on your behalf. ORRRR, someone close to your phone (or maybe it was you if say you're one to take sleeping meds occasionally) tinkered with the app at some point in the past. All speculation at this point on the WHEN or HOW, but the WHY and WHAT all point to that one app.
