I've never had trouble with HTC DEV and I can't seem to figure out how to get my Cricket HTC 625 into fastboot mode.
Any advice?

If you can't get it via button combo then use enable USB Debugging and use adb: adb reboot bootloader
For adb and fastboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Rooting via Kingroot supposedly works once the bootloader is unlocked as mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-desire-c/help/sowftware-update-t3255022
They didn't mention which software update it was on, but knowing Cricket and HTC, they probably never released but the original one so might be worth a try. Keep in mind that there does not seem to be an RUU to restore the phone if something goes wrong so proceed at your own risk.

Rooting is possible

It can be done by following HTCdev inductions. I did but it took a few tries to unlock the bootloader. After that any progress will root it. Even Kingroot. But there is no recovery for that device. So it's editing your stock rom. So stay backed up. The twrp 626S recovery will flash to it, I been playing with it but can't say if any rom will flash successfully yet. so my words should only be taken as offering my personal experience not as any professional advice

Thank you I wish I would have seen this sooner though.. I sat on it and cracked the screen and my digitizer dont stand a chance lol oh well.:crying:.

Root htc 625 .. use twrp for the HTC desire 626s as it works with the 625 as well.. First unlock bootloader, I downloaded java (offline) version and it worked fine, then HTC manager. Then I downloaded the usb drivers for the phone(may not be needed). Then adb and fastboot (not from HTC link, found it on Google which worked much faster to download. Noe after bootloader unlocked kingroot will root it or flash the twrp img using command prompt, just type flash recovery and the name of the twrp file.. now I had to type - flash recovery twrpblablabla.img. img, so I had to add *.img at the end so it had the twrp name which ended in .img and then i had to add another - .img ..... not sure why but I was messing around and that's what got it flashed. Then I flashed superU using twrp recovery.. now I did root with kingroot after bootloader was good but that's cause the whole (.img) thing. I went back after and got the adb command to do it the way I wanted to at first.. plus rooted another HTC 625 that way..
Any questions message me I will help and can send links to the files needed.. Mau. Thing was using twrp for 626s and the .img added at the end so it looked like twrp3.2.1.img.img )
May have had a space before the last .img , can't remember so if it don't work for you try that. Help needed just ask I will be glad to help as it took me a long time to get the right info and actually do it.
Anyone have j727U and got twrp on it let me know, I will pay.

[Q] cant unlock bootloader or flash stock rom htc legend help

HI hope someone can help me with this, i have tried without success to unlock my bootloader, i have updated to hboot 1.02 but when i try to do the fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin it sits at 0percent and doesn't move and no errors, i've tried this with my goldcard in and out of the phone and with cyanogen and b08 roms, also for some reason i can't flash the stock rom so i can get the required update from htc(thinking that's y the unlock code won't go), i've tried getting numerous ruu's and i was getting signature verification fails every time, i tried with windows the exe and also exracted the rom.zip and still no luck, i prefer using linux and adb though and tried numerous ways to get this to work with no success, i've also tried signing a rom.zip and the phone just says no signature, also tried renaming to LEGEIMG.zip and update.zip and just can't flash stock rom, also made a new goldcard thinking the other was bad and did the htcdev for the unlock code with a goldcard and without, also tried the ruu.exe in windows with new said goldcard and i think the other was bad because i get a different error now for reason it can't update my rom(was using the rom i originally rooted with which has sense). it says wrong bootloader version when i try and update, anyone know what i can do, i'm running outta ideas, thanks in advance
I Unlocked my bootloader with HTCdev. You said you tried. What went wrong?
If you have updated your phone to one of the ruus HTC gives you ( execute the exe ), there shouldn't be any problem : the HTC guide is clear and easy. If you have successuffly unlocked the bootloader, now you have to flash the clockwork recovery.
when i go to fastboot it stays on copying at 0 percent with the unlock_code.bin....My phone has root access before i ran the hboot update and still does but i can't flash the new ruu, it won't allow me to, i tried running the htc ruu and it fails with can't update, bootloader version incorrect, i tried with the b-08 rom, i can't get back to stock
Have you tried flashing this? ----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497357
If you don't install one of the updates given by HTC, bootloader unlock won't work. If you have the same problems that I had ( my Legend also wasn't rooted ) the RUUs won't install, right? I flashed first this one and then one of the HTC RUUs and after this everything worked perfectly.
nope, i didn't try that one yet, but the thing is my legend was rooted before i tried flashing these htc ruus, i just want my bootloader unlocked, i had cyanogen on it then flashed a rooted one with sense (b08) thinking that would let me update but it didn't, so i'm downloading that one you pointed me to now, i'll try and flash it and let you know how it goes.
When i flash that rom i get a main version is older error when i rename it to LEGEIMG and flash it via fastboot, what can i do now?
I followed Blayo's guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22613990&postcount=62 with my already rooted Legend. Try to follow exactly. You said using a gold card - don't think this is even necessary. At least I did not use one, and it is working perfectly.
After flashing the new bootloader, did you really unlock?
(last step of guide above: follow the instructions on HTCdev from Step 8 to unlock)
Wait, all the RUUs you have to flash before unlocking are HTC's executable files ( .exe ). You have updated your phone executing them, haven't you? After that I just rebooted my phone to fastboot and connected it. I found the unlock code, sent it to HTCdev, received an e-mail with the file to complete unlock and then unlocked. I never used anything like UPDATE.zip or LEGEIMG. I tried following the BlaYo's instructions but they didn't work for me. I just did what HTC said ( easyer and safer ).
hmmmmm

i solved my problem, i sold the phone and bought another legend. LOL, no seriously though, i did sell it and got another but i tried everything and couldn't unlock bootloader, i tried the exe files from htc, tried extracting the zip files, tried fastboot and renaming to LEGEIMG, just couldn't get it unlocked, so i flashed the latest cyanogen 7.2 and sold the darn thing, now i got another and made 50$ in the process as i bought the new one 50$ cheaper and i'm going to go through the htc channels to unlock the bootloader but does anyone know if i'll be able to flash cm7 after i do that?
bootloader

What do you mean with 'rooting again'? Once you have unlocked bootloader, you are able to flash a recovery, and then CM, which is rooted. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24102979 for latest Recovery and latest CM7.2 builds
Ok just to update i flashed the HTC dev bin file again and had restore cm7 backup and bootloader is unlocked once again.
got her goin good now, unlocked bootloader with htcdev, fastboot flashed cwm, then i was able to flash cm7.2 and gapps no problem at all, now if we could only s-off the legend???

After unlocking boot loader:
1. Use htcsupertoolv3 to root
2. Install rom manager and titanium backup
3. Run titanium backup. It will ask you to update su. accept (i'm not sure if this step is required, but this is how i done it)
4. Copy recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-legend to your Android folder created during bootloader unlock
5. With your phone on fastboot mode open terminal in your PC android folder and type:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-legend.img
Your phone will go to recovery mode.
6. Reboot your phone in normal mode
7. From now on, each time you want to go into recovery, use rom manager
Done

So for what I have understood from HTCdev, you can do everything similar to S-OFF, with one exception: you cannot unlock a SIM lock.

True, you can't. I'm not sure if flashing a custom rom will unlock it, as my phone sim card was unlocked from very beginning. Probably not?

[Q] I think i bricked my phone

hi i need help. so here is what happened. i have a sprint htc one max. i unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone. flashed a custom rom on it and had it flashed to page plus and no problems with the phone. when i saw that it could be unlocked. i tried the steps to relock my bootloader and then things when wrong. i relocked my bootloader but now i am stuck in bootloader mode and cant enter recovery. i have been reading in the forums but nothing seems to be a clear solution to me. i tried to install the RUU from sprint and it wont load. i get ERROR 133 (if i am not mistaken) and when i try to find the phone on adb it wont show up. so now i am hoping someone can guide me or show me what i need to do. if not i guess i have a new fancy paper weight hahaha. thanks guys appreciate it.

Does bootloader mode work? If so, you can use the ruu zip on an sd card to fix your phone. You can follow the instructions in my vzw ruu thread for option to. Just make sure you use the Sprint zip instead of mine.

unfortunately no. but al those things are very simple. just follow steps one by one and you haven' t any problems. most important is that you have proper drivers installed.

i rooted my phone with this app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=1314#downloads
it helps a lot and my phone was rooted in less than 10 minutes
To point you in the right direction...
First thing with a HTC is to understand S-ON / S-OFF vs Unlocked / Locked Boot-loader vs Root.
S-ON / S-OFF is Security, and unique to HTC phones.
With the phone S-ON you can still flash a new kernel (boot.img) and flash new ROM's such as Cyanogenmod (and many more!).
With the phone S-OFF you can flash things like the radio, change the CID (Carrier ID) and more, but being unable to S-OFF is not the end of the world.
Bootloader Locked / Unlocked.
With a locked bootloader, you can still gain root, however depends heavily on the exploit and version of android. A locked bootloader is the main restriction on any device.
With an unlocked bootloader, you can now flash custom recoveries (or just boot into them). Flash custom ROM's, and Flash custom Kernels.
HTCdev.com will allow you to unlock your bootloader by following the instructions on there.
Root = Root, i.e. performing commands or having apps perform functions as the systems Superuser (Administrator) account on your device.
You can have your device S-ON, unlock your device, flash a custom ROM, and not be rooted. It's just most custom ROM's ship with root enabled.
Hopefully the above explains (very basically) the differences between a few terms.
And you most certainly do not need to flash a custom recovery in order to install a custom ROM.
Rob
in all honesty
Unless you really really need it to be unlocked I would honestly advise against unlocking and rooting for this device... when i got mine I loved how smooth the original rom was, but being a long time samsung user I was used to flashing anything with minimal impact. But right now this device has 0 development happening and most people who have unlocked and rooted the EU version of this phone have ended up regretting it as there is no way to restore the original eu firmware...
If you do decided to do it please please please make a full backup of the eu rom before hand... and if you do god i think so many members would love you for posting it on here
but in my own opinion I wouldn't go through with the process again...
@torchwolfery we're sharing exactly the same opinion

Hi Guys,
As I mentioned in my brief explanation of the different terms of rooting / unlocking etc.
You can unlock, and root, while still keeping the stock recovery, and stock ROM.
This means you can root the original ROM to use root apps, and have root, but then simply factory reset to go back to full stock (albeit with an unlocked bootloader).
When you unlock your boot-loader the device will do a factory reset, take a backup at this point, by booting into TWRP (but you don't need to flash TWRP permanently onto the phone.
Instead of >fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Simply type >fastboot boot recovery.img
Your device will load TWRP, allow you to do a full backup, install superuser / supersu.
Once you exit the recovery, your phone still contains the stock recovery.img, stock boot.img, and stock system.
Hope that helps some others before they flash recovery.img (no need!) and then flash an AT&T ROM on the international version.

thanks we know this now and we are not trying to somehow blame you but the fact is that unlocking the bootloader and rooting has caused some issues for us on the international versions... your tutorial works great and gave us what we wanted but sadly there have been downsides on the international version... but now I've manged to get mine fully functioning now

If Security is off (S-Off), do I have to unlock the Bootloader?

Hi, guys! I'm new to modifying the Android OS, and have a question that I haven't been able to find the answer to, so I was hoping that some of you guys could shine some light on my situation. I have a HTC One Max (T6#UL), running 4.4.2 with HTC SDK API level 6.20 (If that's relevant), that I received from work. When I boot it into the Bootloader, it says that the Bootloader is locked, and S is-Off. What I want to do is root it, and install a new ROM, but I'm confused on what exactly to do in this case. I've read that because S is Off, this overrules unlocking, and I can go ahead and install custom recovery (TWRP) now. Is this the case? Do I have to FDR before doing it? What is the best method to go about this? Please let me know if you need any phone/bootloader info.
Thanks for reading, any help is greatly appreciated!

I would because as you will find out you can't simply flash twrp as is now. You need an ruu mode version of twrp to flash instead of flashing normally.

Okay, thank you, Dottad! This helps a lot.

If you are "Locked" and "S-OFF", that likely means somebody locked it afterwards to use the fingerprint sensor, since that requires a locked bootloader.
What you need now is to go to the bootloader and execute a couple of specific commands.
I believe the specific thread here has the instructions.
I actually did this once to try the fingerprint sensor. Had to figure out the hard way that "fastboot oem unlock" doesn't work after you S-OFF.
After you unlock, you don't need anything else. You can just flash TWRP normally via fastboot.

HTC 10 possibly bricked? Bootlooping does not stop. I can still access TWRP and B/L.

I have an HTC10, in good shape. I can access TWRP and bootloader and download mode. ADB recognizes the device in TWRP. The device is also recognized under fastboot(HTC and google FB).) Please, no stuff about wiping, reinstalling. da da da..... Im on linux, where its the most simplest platform, for Android, since it runs a linux type kernel. I tried to boot into Winblows and run an official HTC RUU. It just closes. I know it has something to do with missing dependencies. I remember reading about it on venomrom.com. It's no longer there.
I know there is an RUU decryption tool that will pull the ROM from the stupid RUU. I need some advice. I'm not a n00b. I've been doing nothing but Android stuff for a few years now. Compiling kernels, compiling CM when it was CM. So please, I need real advice.. And yes, I'm S-OFF. Anyone???I have done everything except RUU, which when I boot to Winblows, it just dies... Yes yes, I know how to pull rom.zip from RUU without the bs time rush... Decryption is the key. Thank you folks... And I ask that you only reply if u have an HTC10 S-OFF, WWE, TMOB or Dev/unlocked firmware. Thanks. Oh, yes I did super CID. I know what I'm doing.. Problem is I cant read the last kernel msg. I dont want a samsung with all of its crapware.. Oneplus 6 would be "ok" but its got some ****ty ass features... no SD slot? The octa-core is nice. though... The specs on the damn note9 whoop 1+6s' ass..
