GPS Test Xiaomi Redmi 3 - Xiaomi Redmi 3 Questions & Answers

Hi!
I'm really considering to buy Xiaomi Redmi 3. I think it is a really bang for your buck phone. But I use a lot of GPS, so a good GPS receiver is imperative for me. After being let down with my 2 previous phones, I don't want to make the same mistake again. So, I would like to ask anyone that already has got this phone to post a screenshot of the app GPS Test of both indoors (not apartment buildings) and outdoors satellites reception alongside with the regional location where the test was made. That would be great and help a lot to my decision.
Currently, I'm inclined to buy Moto G 3rd Gen, which has great GPS reception both indoors and outdoors. But if Xiaomi came close to it, I would rather prefer it to the motorola because of the larger battery.
Thanks in advance.

What tests specifically do you want done? I just bought this phone and I also use GPS pretty often so I will be checking it out over the next week myself anyway. More than happy to share my findings.

Hi! thanks for your availability.
Please install the app called GPS Test from The play store. The free version is enough. Then, after installation you only have to run it indoors and outdoors and take a screenshot of each one of those situations and share them here. To take a screenshot, you only have to press volume down and power button at the same time.

GPS of the phone is ok, I don't use it much, only to check a place on Google Maps.

Hey! You were very helpful. If it can fix indoors, for sure that it has, at least, an above average GPS receiver and would preform very well outside. Thanks a lot.

Sorry for the delayed response. Here's a link to 3 screenshots. The first is in my living room that has no windows, the second is in my kitchen which does have windows and the third is outside. I live in Hebei, China. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I appreciate it.

@HCPA So have you bought the redmi 3. I'm thinking to buy redmi 3 pro. Since, their hardwares are almost identical, can you share your GPS experience with us if you bought one.

Hi! No, I did not buy the Redmi 3, I bought the Motorola G 3rd gen instead. Let me tell you why.
Firstly, what attracted me the most in the redmi 3 was both the large battery and the price, around 160 euros, besides of course the, supposedly good enough gps reception.
But few things led me to change my mind. They were,
1. some people reporting having received faulty versions of the phone. As my bad experience in faulty phones in the past I didn't want to go through all of that again. In addition, Xiaomi doesn't have official support in my country, Portugal, so if I had any problems it would be really inconvenient to deal with that situation. On the contrary, Motorola has technical support in Portugal.
2. Despite the price of Moto G 3rd being around 200 euros, I paid 199,90 euros, the gps reception is if not the best in the smartphone market, certainly one of the best, sure-fire thing the best I have ever had. It always locks under 5 seconds, outdoors and indoors, sunny or cloudy weather. Check the following review http://www.notebookcheck.net/Motorola-Moto-G-3rd-Generation-Smartphone-Review.147931.0.html
3. Despite Moto g 3rd having smaller battery I find it it lasts me around 2 days of usage, which is about the same I was used to with my previous phone and it had a smaller screen. I'm not a heavy user though, if so I reckon it would last a complete day. That is also what many reviews point out about the phone that apart from redmi 3 it has the best battery life for this device range. That being said I'm still happy with my decision because after all the trade off is that the Motorola is water resistant while Redmi 3 is not and for me this is a plus since I often run in rainy days, so I don't have to worry about ruin my phone.
In conclusion, the price difference is well worth it. I have got a phone that feels and works like a premium phone. Motorola was always known for having the best cell radios in the market. Besides all of that I have stock android and I'll have plenty updates to come.
By the way, I got the 2 gig Ram version. 1 gig ram is not worth it anymore in 2016.
I hope I was helpful. Feel free to ask any other stuff about this. I'll be glad to help.

Are you satisfied with your Z Ultra?

I'd really like to have one, but there are a couple of issues: The screen...if I bought a used one, for example, can I get the warranty honored? Secondly, the SOD: Has it been solved?

I'm very happy with my two (one as a incar GPS/test box). Good luck on warranty on a used one, Sony here in NZ didn't want to know for my second one (I brought it broken), although they are a gray import here.
The sleep of death was solved a long time ago on one of the 4.2 updates. There is 4.4.4 kicking around noe.
Yes, i am very satisfied with Z Ultra. Nope the chances for me to go back to small screen is very much gone... Unless no Z2 Ultra in the future.
But as of now, Z Ultra is really great. never got satisfied more than this. Battery Life might need to be better but 5 hour real time screen time average is very respectable for such screen size and power engine
Short answer: Yes. Very. I'll probably stick with it for another year (have had mine for around 10 months now).
horribly glitchy, unpredictable, can't depend on it, countless small little annoyances everywhere
but every android phone is like that... at least this one has a huge screen and is rather fast so yeah i guess

YES, I AM
Except when I'm learning now how to create a custom recovery...
And I don't understand anything, I locked back my bootloader... Still rooted on stock .108
I'm trying to create a website dedicated for this C6833
To avoid any confusion between the Z1 and our Z Ultra
(even if they are pretty close the same)
(I'm recreating a new account on XDA because I forgot my old one, and those 10 posts minimum gets me very angry)
I am very happy with my C6802 almost 11 months after getting it (bought it early August last year). It is still unsurpassed and despite about three weeks before root was possible (vRoot unfortunately), the arrival of GPe got things going.
It is the best phablet made to this date; I don't consider any other device close beside the Oppo Find 7. The only thing I am worried about is the lack of any successor rumor or even information about upcoming devices in the same category. The only competitors I know about right now is the Oppo N1 and Huawei Ascend Mate 2, both with weaker hardware.
My requirements for a new device is Snapdragon 810/815, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage, 6.5-7 inch screen, keyboard cover as an option, camera not important (have the QX10 for that), microSDXC slot and... either Google vanilla/Android Silver or CM-based. Sony implementation is OK.
I guess next year will bring those things to the table but it would be great with some decent phablets this fall since it would indicate that the segment is alive and well. Right now, the Ultra is in a class of its own and any other device means compromising on the core: a solution that is a true tablet replacement with great software.
Edit: The GPe ROM paired with Xposed Framework and optimized Dalvik libraries (compensating for the ART/Xposed issue) make the Ultra a completely superior phablet. I have tried the Note 3 (which is hyped as being such a great device) several times and it is far, far behind the Ultra in every aspect besides the camera. The best features of it such as multiwindow is available on the Ultra through Xposed and it works great.

is it worth to move from Note 4 to LG v10

today i have the note 4 sm-n910u , will be a good step to buy a V10 - will i enjoy this device?
I'd suggest going to the store and playing around with it a while with the live demo phones.

i am from Israel - i will buy the Orange version that comes with the Radio
A recent convert here!
I have to be honest, my main incentive to upgrade was the 200GB microsd promo, which I'm loving at the moment.
Other than that, I would say that you would get roughly the same experience with the V10. There are some really annoying quirks like the random bluetooth issues, or the fingerprint issue with the case. But overall, it's a great device.
I do really like the second screen experience, can't wait till we are able to customize it even more with custom ROMs.
and oh, standard 64GB internal ROM is GREAT.
How works the FM radio ? Is it working on Steteo too ?
I had a note 4 Prior to my nexus 6. Note 4 is a good phone, I just never used the Stylus and cant stand Sammy bloatware. The V10 Is my favorite phone to date.

The best part was giving AT&T the finger and switching to TMO where you can customize your phone.

I came from a note 4. I usually upgrade every year and both phone while fast, the v10 appealed to me in the same way my note 4 did. Speed wise my maps no longer has gps issues and my recent apps is much smoother. I do love the pen but in return you get a 2nd screen which is quite useful.
An example: I am in phone conferences for a chunk of the day and leave it on mute. When someone calls on me to speak and I have my maps on the current screen, in a panic I look for the dialer app. Not anymore, the 2nd screen instantly takes me to the dialer which is an awesome feature for me! Also the audio quality is excellent out of the headphone jack and it still has an ir blaster. Not many other phones have this many features!
So yes, compared to the note 5 which is missing an SD card battery ir blaster and a company that gives a darn about their roots, the LG v10 is the next in line.
On a side note, Samsung is considering an SD card in their s7 so the next note may be some good competition but I need 2 batteries, this dies around 1pm with my heavy use.

From someone who actively change between the Note 4 and LG V10, I will say the the biggest drawback is the battery on V10 is extremely lacking compared to my Note 4. The speed and fluidity I have to give to LG due to a lighter UI as opposed to TW. I would never get rid of either because there are days I hate the V10 and vice versa. Its situational based over anything else

Just dropped my Note 4 for this. I'm an AT&T user on the Tmobile variant. Right now I have no LTE. Once that is figured out this phone will be a lot better.
Note 4: Better battery life for me especially with kit Kat versus lollipo, better screen Blacks, better Bluetooth connectivity, better development community (FireKat and Cm12.1), spen is cool, for me the button placement is better (I'm not the biggest rear button fan) on the V10, better speaker phone, ODIN full wipes, better build quality, for me the s6 keyboard port is the best keyboard so far , youtube 2k does NOT stall , ir blaster has better directional range
V10 : more ram and not TW equals a extremely smooth device, awesome DAC for headphones, fingerprint is 1,000 times better, native 64bit android seems snappier, works better with xposed very little cpu lag, the screen is excellent overall!!! , audio playback is smooth with no stuttering like on the note4 sometimes. Screen does not overheat and dim-great job LG.
Just off the top of my end phone to phone. Both are great..
If buying today 350-400 used note 4 vs 599 V10 (free 200gb card and $100 off promo if you got in early ). I would say the V10 if you like music and xposed. No freebies..I'd stick with the Note4 till Jan/Feb.
If you can find a kit Kat device, stick with the note4 till the 820 devices come out, as the V10 will be outpaced as soon as the 820 devices are released and I assume more carriers will use the ess DAC.

Opinion Needed Please

Been using the x 2013 for some time now and its just about perfect. I dont game, my use is heavy on web, text. The problem with my X is that the microphone doesnt seem to work anymore, I have to carry a wired or bluetooth to talk on the phone...which is a pain.
I want something small, similar in size, to replace it. Ive narrowed it down to a Nexus 5 or One Plus X. Which would you guys recommend? Anyone else make a move from the X 2013 to one of these models?
Thanks,
Mario
Oneplus X is great but the customer service, warranty etc is bad. Not sure about nexus 5 but its an old phone as compared to oneplus x. Suggest other comparison like xiao mi note 3.

I have both models. Moto X 2013 and Oneplus X.
OP X is a great phone, but it has some software bugs (I think OP will fix them).
The dimensions and the specs are very good. It's a bit slippery, but you can solve with a cover.
Anyway I prefer the fantastic Moto X
Thanks all, yeah I really like the moto x but I need to be able to make calls without a headset. Anyone else have any thoughts or suggestions?

I am happy with my Oneplus x
If I was you, I would buy the Oneplus x
bought my opx a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier.
but as another user posted above, the device is great but the OS is still a bit buggy and the customer service is not that great.
if you decided to buy opx, welome to the opx research and development team hahah
Hi there,
I've owned the Nexus 5, then the Oneplus One, and now the Oneplus X (mainly because I wanted a smaller premium feeling handset again and my OPO had some drop damages).
Simply put, the Oneplus X is a Nexus 5 on steroids. Expect about 1.5-2x the battery life, a higher quality amoled screen (if you like amoled) and much more premium feel in the hand. I also think the Snapdragon 801 is a sweet spot for cheap-mid rangers. There is basically no lag on Oxygen OS 2.2.0 and with blu spark kernel my phone performs really well.
The Nexus 5 was a great device for its time, but the Oneplus X is better in nearly every way (if ROM support is not that important to you).
Thanks for the feedback!
opx is really good,if they fix the software problems it will easily be top choice
Thanks

I recently bought few phones and don't know which one to keep to replace my old 2013 moto x. I got galaxy alpha, oneplus x, and Z5 compact. To be honest none feel as good ergonomically as the moto x. The oneplus is nice, good screen and speed but a Lil big. The z5c is really nice but darn thing si hard to hold without a case. Just way too slippery. And loli on it not very fast in my opinion. Also gets pretty warm with light surfing. Not terribly hot but the hottest of the bunch. The alpha is good all around. Nice size, weight is awesome... So light! Speed seems good. My first time using Samsung, it's not as terrible as I thought would be. I switched to Nova prime and feels good. No SD card is a bummer but not deal breaker. It's also slippery but best grip of bunch without case. Screen is good but a bit yellow and not as sharp next to oneplus.
What do you all think, which would you keep?
Thanks.

Redmi 3 or 3 pro - struggling to choose

So I've decided tomove on from my Lumia 640 and Xaomi phones look really decent. I mainly think about basic version but Pro does offer more RAM and memory storage. Here's the usecase: MS Office apps, Youtube and social networks, navigator with cached maps, Hearthstone, Fallout Shelter and a couple of rhytm-games. I'm not a maniac for mobile games, however, having a potential for something heavier would be nice. Photos will go to Onedrive, music is also kept online, so for the most part it's only apps in the memory. Will Pro really give me an advantage? Higher price isn't really a problem. However, Pro was just released less than 2 weeks ago so there are no ROMs. I don't need much of a ROM, but I would definitely like Russian translation. I can go without it however, if the phone proves to be really good otherwise. Are there any other major problems with default firmware? And is there any info about progress on ROMs for 3 Pro?
If you can afford PRO version, there shouldn't be any doubt.

I just changed from Redmi 3 to 3 Pro for my 2nd phone. And I'm quite happy with Pro version. With 3G Ram, Finger and 32GB Int storage, it give you much better experience than Redmi 3
10x, seems what PRO version is better.
It's no brainer really, for ROM, it's the same as Redmi 3, and by the last developer ROM, fingerprint and storage/RAM issue is fixed , if you need stable, you just use the modified ROM that comes with the phone for the moment. As for language problem, there's a partial solution at http://en.miui.com/thread-262496-1-1.html that works without rooting or unlocking bootloader.

I also think that rom thing isn't a problem. Because the redmi 3 Pro is different with the raam and (32Go) nand memory, fingerprint (just another feature, not neccessary to run the roms) (I think we call this memory like this, right?) but all the rest is the same.
If the price isn't a problem, you should consider taking the pro. Long term thinking, it is better IMO to have more ram to avoid lag, slowness.
I'm sorry If what I say is a little bit confusing, I still have to exerce myself to talk about theses technical things in english !

anyone else find this phone boring?

Like my note 7 had so many features , such as place phone face down to silence call. Or keep phone screen on by looking at it etc. This phone just seems really barebones. Even tho it's very snappy. I think when note 8 comes around I'll switch. I wish I could get those aforementioned features

I like the Lg G5 massively over the note 7 just for the wide angle camera alone. Keeping the phone screen on while looking at it is possibly the worst gimmick ever.

I wish it did have the screen stay on feature when watching a video on Facebook or whatnot where you gotta move the screen once in a while to stop it from dimming. Yeah the note 7 was a failure and it also was a slow phone (Snapdragon model) but this phone having the same chip runs a lot better. Must be better optimized. The note 7 cam does beat the main cam on this phone tho, it also took HDR pics super fast. Pros and cons to everything.

No, I love the G5
Let's get this clear the G5 has the face down silence option, and if it's packed with features, u just have to look for them in the settings, and beside all that the wide angle lens is the most innovative camera feature ever on a smartphone, what would u do if u had a pixel ?
Coming from Motorola, Lenovo, and Huawei phones, and just looking at stock settings on the G5, I'm pretty impressed by what LG included. Just to be able to change global font and theme without root would've been revolutionary to me not that long ago. Granted, the LG store is relatively young/limited -and I've no idea where it will go- but it's a promising starting point. 360 wideangle live wallpaper with wideangle camera lens to make your own (eventually), drag-and-drop touch button settings, multiwindow, shortcut key commands, as small a detail as battery percentage preference... Many of these things we're used to as root mods, and in that sense they may be boring, but to have them as part of the stock basis makes me look forward to expansions of customization in the not-too-distant future, if not by LG in their store, then by the enthusiasts in this realm. It's encouraging, far from boring!
