Dualshock 3 support removed from Marshmallow update? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been using my PS3 controller wirelessly with my Xperia Z2 for a few years now, along with my mhl 3.0 adapter, it's been brilliant at playing on my HDTV.
I've just upgraded to the official Marshmallow 6.0.1 firmware and noticed that it only seems to have options for Dualshock 4 connectivity.
If I plug the Dualshock 3 in via usb otg, it works, but when I try connecting via bluetooth, it asks me to input a pin number, which I don't have, and shouldn't need.
Does anyone have any info regarding this?
Or even better, does anyone know a way Dualshock 3 support can be pulled from the Lollipop firmware and integrated into the Marshmallow update, if Sony are going to be so annoying as to remove it all together?
PS: I've also tried the Sixaxis Controller app on the play store and it doesn't seem to function at all.

The new Marshmallow update on mine also doesn't show PS3 controller connectivity because the PS3 is getting too old for new software to handle. There is a solution that may help though, and that is the dualshockmanager.apk file (or something like that) that could be ported or installed on marshmallow to bring compatibility back. Make a new forum on the Xperia Z2 help & troubleshooting section and ask if someone who is running Lollipop, can upload the dualshockmanager.apk from their phone. Hope this helps.

Try use old dualshockconnect from 5.1

Sixaxis controller app on the market will allow ps3 controller through bluetooth. Works great.

When I tried the App, it stated that I didn't have the right protocol. Hence why I am looking for another option.

Of course, that's not the problem, the problem is the Bluetooth Stack on the SGSII AT&T apparently doesn't support the needed protocol. This also was confirmed on their site where they said there was an inability to use it with newer Samsung Devices.
You need to be running CM7 of Muiu, which use the working bluetooth stack.

I'm running Cognition right now, I'll try to see about splicing in CM7's Bluetooth Stack then, though I've heard mixed things about CM7's Stack working properly in terms of displaying Track Names over Bluetooth.
Woah.. Call me a noob, but it's possible to plug USB controllers into our phones for games!? THAT'S AWESOME. Definitely going to watch this thread for more info.
Afaik, no. But i could be wrong. Has it been done with a powered hub?

It can be done with Honeycomb 3.1 I thought when they announced it a future update (anything past 2.3.3 I thought) was going to include it for Gingerbread, looks like we just have to wait for ICS
TBH the idea of a wireless controller is more attractive to me anyway. A PS3 controller can be combined with a market app to do the job? If so, would it be able to function as the input device for, say, NES/SNES emulators?

Yes, typically you can remap the buttons and do such. Since I have been unable to do such, I'm trying to track down a bluetooth gamepad that I could use with my device that isn't a PS3 controller. There are some on the market, just trying to find the best option.

Have you confirmed that the OTG cable is working for more "common" stuff?
The PS3 controller isn't a fully standard HID device, so requires a special kernel driver to work. I'll try to whip up a test kernel for you to try in a day or two.
FYI, in addition to the kernel support issue you may be subject to the same limitations as PS3 controllers on the Tab 10.1 - the PS3 controller MUST be fully charged prior to connection or it'll try to charge and trigger an overcurrent trip.

It's next to impossible to do stack-splicing between CM7/MIUI and Samsung stock ROMs. I've never seen it done.
OTG Connects a Keyboard and USB Flash Drives. I tested it with a WD 500GB desktop drive also, works well.
I can say that the PS3 controller works great with the EEE Pad when it is plugged in, no Bluetooth support in Honeycomb. Though once ICS comes out, we should have native Gamepad support through USB then. That's going to be a glorious day.

For what it's worth, I went ahead and got a DualShock 3 controller, the Sixaxis Controller app, and SNesoid/N64oid. After initial configuration they all work extremely well together, allowing some good on-the-go gaming. Now I'll finally have something to do on long car rides or between classes. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!
Note: I am running Cyanogenmod 7, which avoids the problem described here.
I just tried it with my PS3 controller. Works extremely well.
- First use the compatibility app to get a MAC address looking string, write it down somewhere.
- Then go on your computer, browse to dancing studio website and download the driver install app.
- While the driver install app is running, plug the PS3 controller into your PC, Windows 7 actually told me something like the driver has not been approved with MS, ignore it and proceed.
- Type the MAC address that you've obtained in step 1, and update the controller
- Download the Sixaxis app from marketplace for $1.79. Run it. Turn on your PS3 controller. Everything should be detected and it will ask to turn on Sixaxis Input method.
- Open up SNESdroid, map buttons, enjoy AWESOME gaming.
edit: I'm on Entropy's completely stock rom, but rooted of course.

Will this work with a normal stock without root? Thanks
hi brought an otg cable for my i777 and i can't get it to recognize my phone even with a power usb hub any help please using shostock rom 2.2.6
I was able to get a Playstation(2) USB controller adapter to work with an OTG cable in one of the ICS leaks. Also was able to get an original Xbox controller to work. But, since the leaks were found to be brick-happy, I've switched to AOKP with the Siyah kernel. The kernel works with keyboards and mice with OTG, but not game controllers yet, and the bluetooth stack isn't capable of connecting to a PS3 controller or Wiimote currently with CM-based ICS.

PS4 remote play

Hi everyone,
This little thread so you know that the PS4 Remote Play port is working great on my 32Go Wifi Touchpad running the 4.4.4 Cyanogenmod.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/ps4-remote-play-t2929147
The Touchpad is a unbelievable little piece of hardware refusing to give up (thanks to the devs).
Thank you for posting this. It force closes on cm 9 4.0.4
Will be updating
Ps4 remote play now works , but Sixaxis does not. Does anyone have it working over usb otg? As I understand cm11 builds have Bluetooth issues
Anyone find a rom that works with both?

Strange.
My DS4 did work over Bluetooth. (Except the home, option and share buttons but this was not a problem as there is shortcuts for them on the screen).
I'll test again soon and get back to you.

Ok, was your ds4 linked to your ps4 primary account?
Mine isn't (and i do not want to do it ) but this might solve our problem.
Can you try and give me a feedback ?
Thanks.

I think we may be having some miscommunication, I am trying to pair the DS4 Directly to the touchpad via the App Sixaxis Controller. I am aware of the 'use a secondary account with the ds4 connected to the ps4 itself method' but I was hoping for remote play outside of the home.
Haven't gotten mine to work yet, touchpad is being stubborn from a different network. But you should be able to use the sixaxis pair tool and download the version of the app that has invisible touch buttons and there is a pre made key map in post 3 of the remote play thread. Works fine on my phone and should scale to work on the touchpad screen.
with some of the new 5.1 builds i've been able to get the sixaxis to show up, but still doesn't work properly. hopefully this is progress at least!
Hi guys wanted to know where can I get the latest apk version cause the last remote app I downloaded the PS 4 refused to connect because it wanted me to update the remote app

X96 Amlogic S905X tv box

Recently i purchased one of these. tv box. But the item do not have a notification bar.
Anyone knows how to get it?
And it didnt let me change to stock launcher so i installed google m launcher. but still no notification bar.
I've got one of these boxes too. It's not so much the lack of a notification bar that bothers me (mine stays in my bedroom hooked up to a TV) but what's really bothering me is the lack of proper gamepad support.
I tried a generic SNES styled gamepad (Windows identifies it fine as a "USB Gamepad" and my LG G2 recognizes it with an OTG cable) but this box does not recognize it, only my wired Xbox 360 Afterglow gamepad.
Have you been able to do any worthwhile ROM changes to your X96 devices yet?
I decided I would try one but its pretty basic and seems to crash a lot.

With the help from a guy on another forum and some learning I actually got my controllers working on my KIII. There was quite a bit of testing and messing around in terminal to get the controller to show button presses. Once I got that I created my own Vendor.kl file with the correct info. I installed that via terminal and run a ff-memless.ko and hid-dr.ko everytime I want to use the controllers for emulators. If anyone wants help let me know via pm, im sure I can help.
X96 Not Opening
I purchased X96 Android TV :crying:to connect to my TV.
The box was working fine and was able to connect the HDMI cable and accessing many channels on Kodi.TV.
Recently, the box was not opening and only the RED light is on the BLUE light was not switching on.
Tried disconnecting the box and reconnecting, the problem continues and unable to connect to my TV - message "NO SIGNAL".
This box does not have any resetting button or other facilities.
I have to do the resetting manually (hardware) and not software.
If the box gets connected to the TV can do the factory setting.
How to solve the problem?
Waiting for reply

Android Remote Control apps not pairing with the X96 minii
I also purchased this box. It is working fine. The only problem I faces is the pairing of remote control app from the phone. I tried so many apps from play store but none of them is detecting the tv box from the network to connect. Please help if anybody knows to troubleshoot this.

Newer versions of Android and PS4 controller

Hey everyone! Thanks for viewing this thread.
I have a suspension that Android became incompatible with the PS4 controller at some point, maybe 7.X. I can plug it into my stock Note 3 (running 5.X) using an OTG cable, and input works immediately. Unfortunately this will not work on my 8.1 Pixel or a friend's 7.x LG V20. Also, it will connect to my phone through Bluetooth and is recognized as an input device, but will not respond at all.
I'm looking for any insight on this issue, as well as any tips that may get it working. Thanks in advance!

PS4 controller (bluetooth) not working on M5 LTE?

Hello, everyone!
As I have not found anything on this, neither on XDA, nor using friend Google, I'm posting this hoping to find a solution.
So I have an original PS4 bluetooth controller and it works like a charm with other devices (Win 8.1 laptop, K1 Shield on Android 7, Sony ZX2 on Android 8). but not on the M5.
Trying to pair it with the M5 first brings up an error message "Pairing failed Incorrect pairing key or the device you want to pair with is configured incorrectly. Tray again after viewing Help." ... which doesn't help.
A second attempt will then magically pair the device, but to no effect. It is shown as paired and coected, but will not work with the tablet and apps supporting controllers will not recognize that a controller is connected. Also the controller itself shows the "idle" instead of the "connected" light.
So, does anyone have any ideas how to solve this? I re-paired the controller with all other devices, just to make sure, and it worked. So the controller is still functioning.
If it's anything like the DS3 (dual shock 3) then the controller is very finicky and requries custom software. There's probably an app for it, the Sony phone will have the driver pre installed because it's sony, and probably the shield too.
If it's connected, then yeah there's no hardware fault, just needs the driver.

Well, PS3 controllers truly are difficult to set up, but not so PS4 controllers: Turn on bluetooth, put them into pairing mode, pair, done. I had my PS3 controller with Sixaxis running after much hassle but the PS4-one is really easy to set up. And I did it on multiple Android devices.
And then comes the M5 ...
By the way: Sixaxis does not support the M5.
Yeah I did notice the same thing on my M5 Pro.
I wanted to play the odd mame game with it, and as you say it paired on the 2nd attempt, but I couldn't get any controls to respond to any buttons/triggers etc.
I haven't tried using an OTG cable to see if it will work via cable, but disappointing that it connects but still doesn't work.
Can confirm that DualShock 4 and wired Switch controllers work with a USB C OTG cable.
Hi, it looks like that the Pad have a general Problem with Bluetooth controllers, because i tried a snakebyte controller:vr and the controller hangs or it is "endless scrolling" and in games very unprecise. the same Controller work with a P20 Pro like charm. So it looks like the Problem ist the m5 Pro. Oh, and the same with the PS4 Controller M5 + wired Ps4 working, M5 + Bluetooth PS4 "He´s dead jim", P20 Pro wired/bluetooth Ps4 working.
