My idea is to install the Remix OS on a USB stick or a SD card, so i can use it on PC and on my Tablet.
Is that possible? Or are the versions very different?
My Tablet is the Chuwi HI8 with dual os, but i want a thrid OS, which could be booted by USB oder SD Card.
I tried a little, but can you tell me how to start from USB oder SD Card? Is it only possible to start from BIOS or is there any other solution?
Or is it even possible to boot from Chuwi HI8 tablet on sd card? I know that there is OTG function, but i dont know if it is possible to boot from SD card.
The same on PC, do i have to start from BIOS or are there settings to from a operating system like Windows 10?

Two ways, 1. You can add an entry to windows bootloader
2. Use EasyUEFI, which you can use to change the boot order like you would in BIOS/UEFI.
Booting from sdcard woukd be conditional on the device; from usb should be fine. My i7 stylus for example won't boot from sdcard.
All that being said the hi8 is baytrail right? I think support and drivers for baytrail isn't 100% with Androidx86/RemixOS

Personally it's easier just using EasyUefi especially with a usb install, and yea 1 usb should work on both, but what hardware works will depend on support for it...

EasyUEFI it's a windows exe to change boot order etc. so you don't have to go into bios.

32bit should work on both. I guess your PC is using legacy bios; so EasyBCD might be what you need. But I don't know too much about legacy bios.
Yes you are right. it is a legacy bios.
But i switched the boot options, so it will boot from usb at first. So perfect for me. If USB is in it will boot Remix OS, if not, Windows.

Yes there's an OTA update that works as long as you don't alter system.img, initrd.img, ramdisk.img and kernel.
I dont know if you know anything about Chuwi HI8, but du you know how to boot from USB?
I was in the BIOS Menu but i could not find how to boot from USB.

Try EasyUefi on that; I have a vi10 -- I think they're similar.

I think I know what you mean...
i.e. when you remove the usb it gets taken of the list and re-added to the bottom?
I don't think UEFI keeps the device if it's removed; I had the same issue, unfortunately no real way around it.
There is a sort of workaround; but takes a bit of work. i.e. install grub onto tablet harddrive and have that as primary bootloader

My thinking was something like copying the attached to C:/efi/... ; rebooting and checking EasyUEFI picks up the .efi's. One of which should load fine.
It should boot RemixOS if usb is installed and fallback to Windows if it isn't.
You will probably have to change the path= in grub.cfg or remove it. Depending on how your usb is setup...

I think I've made a huge mistake.
I just wiped my device in TWRP because the last CM Nightly I installed was acting up.
I went into TWRP, wiped and factory reset. I then rebooted and went into TWRP again.
I wanted to install CM 9.1, which I copied onto my 64GB SanDisk Ultra, and I was thinking to just flash it from the external sd.
I read somewhere on xda that I needed to maybe use a smaller SD card and have the format in FAT32, which I did, but TWRP still does not recognize them.
I am currently stuck with TWRP v2.3.1.0, no way to flash a new rom from a blank internal memory or an external memory.
I tried updating SDK and the most updated drivers for the device through the Device Manager and use "adb push" or "adb sideload" but the device is not recognized.
Can someone give me some kind of suggestion to solve this situation.
I’d suggest using a linux install to do the adb stuff if you’re not doing so already, no need for crazy windows drivers to see a connected device.

Windows 8 is a bugger to get drivers working properly.
Try and use a windows 7 machine or a friends laptop or try the following instructions.

How to Disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Windows 8:
From the Metro Start Screen, open Settings (move your mouse to the bottom-right-corner of the screen and wait for the pop-out bar to appear, then click the Gear icon).
Click ‘More PC Settings’.
Click ‘General’.
Scroll down, and click ‘Restart now’ under ‘Advanced startup’.
Wait a bit.
Click ‘Troubleshoot’.
Click ‘Advanced Options’
Click ‘Windows Startup Settings’
Click Restart.
Ubuntu is a linux based Operating System, and can be used to do most things Windows 8 does, sometimes worse, sometimes better. So in this case, it's less trouble to connect an android device to a linux OS such as Ubuntu, as it can recognize a telephone without having to install drivers.
If you want to give it a go, you can install Ubuntu alongside Windows 8.

Yes, you can install Linux in a virtual machine - give it a try. If the device is still not recognized via OS running in the virtual machine, you can then always install to your hard disk and try that route.
The other option is to run Ubuntu as a live cd eg from the disk in memory (not install) and do it that way. I first unlocked and rooted my mobile this way. I can give more info on this if you like.

I think I'll give a multi-boot option a try. I've been wanting to install a different OS anyway since upgrading to Windows 8. Now I just have incentive.

Just a quick thought after re-reading your first post, I'd try a smaller sd card (16 or 32GB). I have heard of the larger faster cards giving some people problems.
Solved!
After trying to install Linux using Ubuntu 13.04 and getting more errors (something with the UEFI vs Legacy Boot installation), I decided to retry and find the original Windows drivers for the TF201.
I found one through Softpedia, downloaded it, used the "Have Disk" option when installing the yielded "Transformer" device in the Device Manager and sideloading the new CM 10.1 Nightly onto it.
Works like a charm!

I installed Remix 2.0 (32-bit) onto my Dell Mini 10 (1012) netbook. So far, everything seems to be detecting perfectly, except for one thing. The touchpad is supposed to be multi-touch but it doesn't function as such. It is worth mentioning that, on Windows, I required special driver software to be able to utilize the multi-touch capability. Considering I've seen some Chromebooks automatically have their multi-touch touchpads detected, I figured Remix would do the same for my Dell. That doesn't seem to be the case.
Anyway, if any of the Jide developers are reading this, I have the driver software available for you. Follow this link. The software was developed for Windows 7 by Elantech (ELAN Microelectronics Corp.) but is being supplied by Dell. The one the Dell Mini 10 has is a Capacitive Touchpad (Smart Pad).

Are you trying to run off USB, or install onto the internal hard drive? Make sure you're using the 32-bit version, as the 64-bit wouldn't boot for me.
FYI, as you may know, the Mini doesn't like any HD video, so unfortunately very few Android games will run properly.
Thanks for getting back to me. I tried installing on hard drive via Linux using the most recent beta. I've upgraded the ram to 2gig and installed an ssd but not sure if that would cause issue.

I used 2GB RAM and an SSD as well. So that shouldn't be an issue. But the procedure I used was different than simply installing it onto the hard drive with another computer.
Don't install using a separate operating system. It doesn't seem to work that way. You need to load it onto a USB and install onto the hard drive using the Mini. The procedure for this is, when you come to the Guest/Resident mode screen, you press TAB, then add "INSTALL=1" to the end of the grub command. This will bring up the android-x86 install menu, which will allow you to install the OS onto the hard drive the same way as using another computer. Make sure the SSD is formatted to NFTS and is completely empty prior to doing this. You can alternatively try formatting it to EX4 instead.
When prompted, install GRUB, do not install GRUB2, install debug (wont work w/o idk why). Unfortunately, you will be left with the maximum internal storage after the install, so you need to go back and use the IMGTools procedure to enlarge data.img to whatever size you want your internal storage to be.
Thats what worked for me, anyway.

Haven't tried it. But if you use a NTFS format, you should easily be able to shrink the partition after install. You would also need to edit the GRUB menu to choose which OS you want to boot with, which I have no experience doing. However, I know the new beta version of Remix does have an install tool that does this for you. So if you were intending to dual boot Remix/Windows, then it is possible to install Windows first.

When i boot i get the two options (Windows 10, Remix OS). I choose the Remix OS option, and it gives me an error (remixos/kernel error). So, i did some research and it says that the os might not recognize that i have a 64 bit machine. I then proceeded with the same installation but 32 bit this time since it should allow me to use that version if i have a 64 bit machine right? It allows me to boot, but then stays in limbo on the ASUS boot screen until i restart. any suggestions.

Are you talking about a USB in fat32 or a hard drive partition? Tried converting both to fat to no avail on an EFI system

Take the intrid.img from the Android x86 project of 5.1.1 and replace that on the usb before install. Worked for me. Rinning Beta 64bit now wheni could only run 32bit before.

Run it off the USB. When option comes for resident or guest hit tab and add to the line (or e for edit) INSTALL=1
I have a 64 bit machine and it installed fine. I don't think I had to change any setting from the installer. Wouldn't work with the alpha but the beta installed and booted right up. When it was installing there was like an 8 minute timeframe where it seemed it wasn't doing anything and my monitor (an hd tv) was getting no signal but I just let it keep running and finally it came back on and it booted right up. I installed to the harddrive also btw.

I tried both ways and and with efi just got the kernel issue. It seems that everything installed correctly but when I choose remix OS it tries to boot and I get the remixos/kernel error
This sounds exactly the same issue than I have with Dell Venue 11 pro (7140). It has Windows 10 installed and secure boot is disabled in BIOS. I can select Remix OS in boot menu but then the following errors are displayed Remix OS doesn't start:
error: 'ntfs' is already loaded.
error: 'exfat' is already loaded.
error: no such device: /RemixOS/kernel.
error: file '/RemixOS/kernel' not found.
error: you need to load the kernel first.

My Surface Pro 3 has this same issue no matter where I install Remix, kernel error.
I'm a dumbass, forgot to turn off secure boot.

I had this error, turned out Bitlocker was enabled and preventing the install from starting on restart.

If you would share some info with us, we might be able to provide a fix :
In Windows, open Run dialog. (Windows key pressed + r)
Type msinfo32 and enter.
You'll see a lot of information, please list the following :
1. System type
2. Processor
3. Bios mode
4. Platform Role
5. Secure boot state
6. Installed Physical Memory (Ram)
7. Total Physical Memory.
Also tell which version of beta you used. 32-bit or 64-bit?

You have as 64-bit capable CPU, as detailed on http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Atom-Z3736F-Tablet-SoC.122214.0.html
So 64-bit beta should work for you. Don't know why 32-bit UEFI systems have this issue.
However I'll inform you as soon as I update my Grub2Win guide.

I have a Asus t100 I'm trying to install remix os on without a windows os. I used pmagic since I'm not that good at coding, I tried coping all the files from release_Remix_OS_for_PC_32-bit_Beta_Version_Package
to a new partition then when I try to boot from it my computer just goes straight to bios because theres nothing to boot. Asus T100 uses Intel Atom Z3740, a 64bit processor. So use the 64-bit version of Remix OS. The 64-bit version of Remix OS also has UEFI, which makes making the drive easier, and booting faster. Make the bootable USB as per instructions, and disable secure boot in your BIOS. You should then be able to boot from the USB.

Ok I just did it so, here is how I did it. Use gparted, from gparted.org, booted up, partitioned, small 500MB FAT32 formated partition, second partition EXT4 the rest, 58GB+. Then took 32bit beta using JIDE's tool to put on a USB stick. Booted the stick and when it came up, entered e, to enter grub boot config. On the second line removed the part after and put INSTALL=1. Installed android to the larger partition, then installed grub, grub efi, formated, then rebooted. Side loaded google services from this forum and it works. Bugs, biggest issue is no audio. Let me know if you have any luck.

Ok so I'm new at this. I booted gparted and started with a unalloted partition and made 1 primary 500mb FAT32 and the second one EXT4 for 57gb then I shut it down put the 32 bit thumb drive in and hit e I saw the all the coding and this is where you lost me u said on the second line removed the part after and put INSTALL=1 did u mean removed PARTITION=1 and in INSTALL in its place? well I tried that and it booted up not sure if it installed to the thumb drive or hard drive the my remix folder says it has 592mb and my 2 Partition says it has 816mb and I have no clue how to install "grub, grub efi, formatted" I just want one Partition with Remix os running full hard drive space please help

I booted gparted and started with a unalloted partition and made 1 primary 500mb FAT32 and the second one EXT4 for 57gb then I shut it down put the 32 bit thumb drive in and hit e I saw the all the coding and this is where you lost me u said on the second line removed the part after and put INSTALL=1 did u mean removed PARTITION=1 and in INSTALL in its place? well I tried that and it booted up not sure if it installed to the thumb drive or hard drive the my remix folder says it has 592mb and my 2 Partition says it has 816mb and I have no clue how to install "grub, grub efi, formatted" I just want one Partition with Remix os running full hard drive space please help

If I use that to put it on the USB when I put the USB in and boot it will it install to the HDD or is it going to run from USB?

From windows:
1) Dowmload and unpack RMX installer everywere you want (you will have a folder called RMX installer).
2) enter on RMX installer folder and execute the .EXE file.
3) Browse for the Remix OS .ISO file (use the 64 bits one, works like a charm for me )and choose the Data size (will create the data.img file).
4) disable secure boot and fast boot in your BIOS.
5) Boot and you will see the grub menu with Remix OS and Windows options.

OK but Asus t100 only uses 32bit which isn't a problem. And I don't have windows on it I have anot her computer that has windows on it but the Asus t100 has no OS at the moment I'm trying to install remix on it without installing windows so if the RMX Installer only works with a Windows installed then I have no use for it
Yes I'm having the same problem, with the new T100 that has both OS and CPU 64 bit.
The thing is, whatever you do grub won't detect either an external SD card or the keyboard dock's HDD as a boot option. They don't even show up in BIOS ! The only possibility seems to be booting from internal storage, which is too limited to dual boot Windows + Remix OS.
Anyone has tips for this ?

When installing Ubuntu on a Surface Pro I had to use a USB-keyboard as the BIOS didn't recognise the original one. If you have one laying around you should try.

Then took 32bit beta using JIDE's tool to put on a USB stick. Booted the stick and when it came up, entered e, to enter grub boot config. On the second line removed the part after and put INSTALL=1. Installed android to the larger partition, then installed grub, grub efi, formated, then rebooted. Side loaded google services from this forum and it works. Bugs, biggest issue is no audio. Honestly, it doesn't really help because they use a custom bios, which we don' t have and won't jave without any experienced developer around here. And if I'm not mistaken, it has been designed for dual boot even before.
Chuwi uses an AMI Bios...
Lenovo two DIFFERENT Insyde bios'es. Furthermore, it looks like the Android Version Bios is not even from Insyde...

Thank you for this Infos I didn't realize that Lenovo used an bios that locked dual booting, iam gonna try to reach Lenovo devs and tell them to make an bios that allow us to dual booting

News: I tried to booting Remix OS but it booted just one time with alot of bugs I've made a screenshot s because I've knew that will boot just ONE time, the last photo show how Remix faules at the second booting:

Folks, Lenovo used on purpose different bios'es. The Android Version will never understand ACPI, UEFI, Bitlock etc... it's cropped EEPROM is just not meant for it. I know it's a frustration, but it won't happen. The Windows Version will "maybe" be able to load some kind of x86 Android, but what about display, halo, wifi, anypen, wacom, dolby etc drivers?

Actually I've booted successfully Remix OS on my Xbox win version it booted successfully just one time then I wasn't be able to boot again, this problem in one hand, in the other hand as you said Halo keyboard, Wacom, Dolby, seems seems no place for them in Remix OS

at least we can boot windows or android from USB/microSD

But absulutly we have drivers
1) i want to boot stock Android
2) drivers are on kernel and kernel source is available on Lenovo site (only for custom rom purposes)

So I just got an Android YogaBook and the "bios" (actually UEFI) is a standard Intel made UEFI loaded with tons of options.
Android is loaded as any standard UEFI OS using a bootloader called KernelFlinger.
This means that we can boot Android, Linux, Windows and in theory also macOS (LOL).
I'll try to install Windows in the next few days, should not be hard (except for finding and usb adapter LOL) and will report back
P.s. I believe the Windows version uses the same UEFI but is locked in a user friendly "basic mode". This makes sense as they are supposed to be able to get into the UEFI while we're not

hii, did i get it? I have the android version and I am stuck because I cannot find how to update the android or how to pass it in a stable way that the keyboard works to windows.
