Best Case and/or combo Screen Protector - Honor 5X Accessories

So the Honor 5x is pretty damn tough:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ud1zzi8VfY
At some point in the above video, guy decides to go from dropping it above his head, to 10th floor. I would guess that in between they had a hard time messing the phone up, and figured 10th floor should put a dent in it somewhere. Which is insane.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ9-sTXPoek
The Aluminum case will scratch. LCD screen is tough.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKhQ3wdPBh4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePHsWx88GLY - fire cracker test
Mad props to the hardware folks at Huawei! So at this point the question is now: What case and or screen protector do you think is the best? Just a case? Just a screen/camera protector?
After watching those videos, I would say, you would want something on the back to protect the aluminum from being scratched (case), combo'd with a Tempered Glass Screen Protector.
Screen Protector :
Rely on this thread for the best one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/accessories/tempered-glass-screen-protectors-t3296240
My personal recommendation: The Honor 5x comes with a plastic screen protector by default. Its awesome that they include a screen protector by default. The default screen protector has a crappy feel to it, but it does work. I highly highly highly recommended you remove the default screen protector and purchase a tempered glass screen protector. I myself purchased a cheapo chinese Tempered glass screen protector. It feels like an iPhone after I upgraded. Meaning, the quality of the touch is super nice, its more responsive to the touch. I at first didn't believe people when they said this, but they are right. The cheapo screen protector didn't come with a cutout for the camera lens (which you can get).
Cases (for scratches):
NOT recommended:
Honor 5x flip cover case: https://store.hihonor.com/us/honor-5x-flipcover
The case that comes with the phone. Junk. No protection. I used this at the start, one time it fell off the table, the case actually came off the phone in mid air somehow, and the phone case-less landed on the concrete. Now I have a permanent mark.
Standard Clear Case - https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71-+PHk2giL._SL1500_.jpg
Clear cases from my experience, will eventually turn YELLOW. I currently have a clear case, it started out clear but turned Yellow/Brown.... ehh... If you have owned a clear case for a good period of time (maybe 6 months?).... Please specify if it yellows or not. You also have to make sure that on the front of the phone the lip of the case goes over the screen.
Recommended:
1. Thin case - The phone is tough, you just need to prevent scratches. Thin cases can make it easy to fit into pocket.
2. Front bumper - I wouldn't get a case if the lip didn't protrude from the front.
3. Stiffness - The case needs to be pretty stiff so the case doesn't move out of the way incase of an accident.
4. Distinct Physical Buttons - The phone without a case, its hard to figure out which is Volume+/Volume- and power by just using your finger. A case can solve this problem by adding bulk to each button. This alone is good enough reason to get a case.
Thoughts? Better recommendations?

I have this case very good not to bulky all round good protection only issue is it ships from China so had to wait awhile

Yeah, I echo that - purchased the official case and it is a let down. Looks and feels cheap, which it most certainly is not!
Also, with any flip case, the fingerprint sensor is covered when it's open...
I've ordered the case that @tintin1892 recommended, but still awaiting delivery. Will see what that's like. I really don't want to be using the flip case, but I'm loath to chance the phone getting damaged so I'm continuing to until the shell arrives. Once it does, the flip case is gone!

The case I bought with my phone.. No issues, I think it looks great, has a little kick stand if you're into that and it's cheap! But the quality of the case feels like you're paying for something triple the price. Dropped the phone a couple times and not even a scratch on the case! I think it's in different colors too but I got the gray and black. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0198BBURS/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_uVElxb0J06P91

I went with the Tudia case in the OP's first case link and have not been disappointed at all. Still using screen protector that came on the phone though.

I had a fantastic case called Trident Cyclops for my HAM2 (Thanks Super Bass).
So i ordered a case off Amazon but it doesn't have the plastic front frame like the Cyclops did, only a Cradle of sorts where you shove the Honor 5X in it and try to fit the rubber rim around the frame.
Is there any nice solid case still around like the Trident Cyclops was for HAM2 for the Honor 5X?

Nillkin Nature Clear TPU. My go to TPU brand/type for any of my phones. Not too bulky, with anti-slip on the sides, port protections and is as slim as it can be.

I have a Spigen transparent case, and it's very awesome ! It's leightweight, thin and very transparent.
You can see more here : https://www.amazon.fr/Spigen®-Crystal-Transparent-Adherence-Encombrement/dp/B01DJHHW74

Is there any OtterBox for the 5x?!

Nilkin plus Nilkin for me. :victory:

I've been using a Nilkin glass and Caseformers combo since Feb. I drop my phone all the time, on concrete, and hardwood floor. Only recently got a couple cracks in the screen protector and scuffs on the case. Best combo I've had for any device I've had.

This case sucks. I brought it via ebay. There are two main issues with this.
The headphone jack opening was too small. My headphone jack does not completely plug in. Alternative is to use bluetooth headset.
The fingerprint opening was too small. It fails to unlock your phone 8 out of 10 times. Alternaitve: You will have to use PIN/Password/Pattern to unlock your phone aka fingerprint scanner is useless.
I switched to Huawei Honor 5X Case - TUDIA Full-Matte ARCH TPU Bumper Protective Case for Huawei Honor 5X. It's perfect. It did not have any of the above issues at all. Highly recommend. Wish they have Otterbox defender case for this phone or one with belt clip and secure.

Honestly, about the screen protector. Even a simple tempered glass protecter does the job well. But if you are really really looking for something great, look for Olephobic coated tempered glass for it.

Well , am pretty sure u gave a great answer.
Usually devices get such coating on screen. Adding a second layer gives any colour glitches ? Just asking

I did not notice any colour differences at all. I have seen Olephobic coating on main glass only in high end devices. There are few reputable brands offering those kind of.

Yes my honor 8 have such

You could find an 'anti-glare' glass for it as well. It will help you a lot but might little bit make colors on your screen 'washed away'. I wish if I could find them in my country for cheap though.
Here is the link to anti glare glass: https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Shield-Anti-Glare-Protector-Replacement/dp/B016DDC582/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501341053&sr=8-1&keywords=honor+5x+anti+glare

Spigen and Nillkin combo always works wonders for me.

simple tempered glass and silicon cover does the job for me.

Well not for me.

[Q] Case, Skin or Nothing

Should I use a case, a skin or nothing with my new Nexus 6?
Historically, on all past phones, I've used nothing, as I've never been a fan of cases, not liking the aesthetics or extra bulk. However this is the first phone that I've outright paid $600+ for, so my interest this time is different, and I'm concerned about what would happen to my phone if I dropped it, etc. It should be noted that I did buy the Motorola insurance, so I can replace the phone for $35 if something happens to it. The only thing I dislike about the phone in its naked state is its tendency to spin on flat surfaces.
I've looked at Spigen cases at http://www.spigen.com/.
I've looked at dbrand skins at https://dbrand.com/.
With all of these things in mind, I'm looking for feedback on whether I should use a case, a skin or nothing at all. I'm also looking for feedback on whether I should use a screen protector.
im a firm believer in using a case and screen protector, all of my smartphones and tablets have them from day 1.
i hate bulky phone cases
i dont like flip cases for phones
i am not a huge fan of ultra slim cases for phones as they only provide protection against scratches and some of them scratch the phone itself
with the nexus 6 i went all out and got my first ever tempered glass screen protector and a dbrand skin and 2 ringke cases, max and fusion, here are my experiences and views with them:
Cases:
for my nexus 6 i purchased a ringke max, fusion and a spigen ultra hybrid which i later returned.
the spigen wasnt as good as the max or the fusion, it looked and felt cheap and the buttons weren't that good as you couldn't differentiate between them.
the max provides a little more drop protection and the phone feels safer in it because it is a dual layer case with a removable plastic window in it to show off the nexus and moto logo. the buttons arent as good as the fusions but theyre usable
the fusion looks and feels great, i have a crystal and a smoke (the smoke was an updated version that they sent me since the first version of the crystal came with scratches). its grippy thanks to the tpu and the plastic back. the crystal looks like it will yellow over time but the back plastic is fully clear, the smoke has a smoke tint over the back plastic but it wont look bad when the tpu has discoloured.
both ringke cases add very little bulk, the max is 1mm or 2mm thicker. both cases keep the design of the phone but do something very important. they are both sit flat where the nexus and moto logos are meaning that the phone wont spin or rock side to side as much as compared to the phone without the case. both cases have dust plugs attached to them that cover the headphone and usb jacks, i like this, others dont, theyre easy to cut off and dont really get in the way if youre patient. they are also compatible with wireless charging, i use an lg wcp 300 and it works flawlessly and it means i dont need to fiddle around with any usb cables and scratch the aluminium rim! i recommend you look into a qi wireless charger to use with your phone, it takes about 3-4 hours to charge which is perfect if you charge your phone while you sleep
i hear good things about the ringke slim, the sf black is the only one that has a soft touch feel to it and its the one id buy if i was to get one, the others feel like polycarbonate
the best thing about using a case isnt the protection or the style factor, its the feeling of the phone when you take it out of the case, your phone feels like new and its all pretty and you appreciate it more. a case has saved my phones many times
spigen ultra hybrid vs fsuion comparison pictures of the max are here with the dbrand skin on
Screen Protectors
if you decide not to use a case then you MUST use a screen protector! plastic or glass, cheap or expensive, use one! it will protect your screen from scratches and im sure that it has saved many of my phone screens from cracking and smashing
you get a free screen protector with all ringke cases, i also have a pack of ringke protectors that i got in order to qualify for free delivery but i really enjoy the spigen protectors on my nexus 4 and 10.
i am currently using a nillkin tempered glass protector, the first glass protector ive ever used and it is well worth the price and hype. i am using the eyes care one that has an anti uv filter that protects your eyes, it doesnt effect the screen wuality in any way, when there is a black image or screen off in bright daylight you will see a blue tint. i also have the nillkin h+ glass protector that doesnt have the blue tint
its hard to get the right glass protector for this phone. orzly fits too short but doesnt lift on the sides (also known as halo), 90% will halo at some place, my nillkin has a small halo near the bottom speaker but it doesnt bother me much as it is no where near the screen
make sure the protector has 2.5 d edges, it basically means that the edges are curved so they dont cut you or peel up
check out the tempered glass forum on xda for which is the best one right now
the glass protectors are superior to the plastic ones in look and feel, i recommend you get a glass one, honestly, it feels like the the actual phone screen and most of them are oiliophobic meaning that they resist grease, sweat and water.
there is a special way to apply glass protectors, look at the hinge or door method
here is a post showing my nillkin protector all of the halo has been removed by using the binder clips method except for one place
Skins
for the nexus 6, this was another first for me, if the back of the phone was glass id use a plastic protector.
if the back was metal, i wouldnt bother
if i had the blue nexus i wouldnt have bothered but i have the white nexus and im glad i do because a) the aluminium rim looks better in sliver than it does in blue, b) skin + ringke fusion case = perfection! and i wouldnt have known or experienced this if i didnt get a white nexus
for this nexus i got my very first phone skin, a dbrand black carbon fibre, pictures dont do it justice. i also got a matte black but i didnt like it so i got a silver titanium that will hopfully look like a brushed aluminium htc one m8. it was simple to apply after watching a few videos on how to do it and the skin looks and feels great
with this in mind, if i had known that slickwraps, an alternative to dbrand, were going to come out with a genuine leather skin for the nexus i would have gotten that, it was announced yesterday so a month or 6 weeks too late for me but i might look into it in the future
here are some pictures of the skin with and without the case the pictures dont do it justice, theyre epic in person
hope my experiences help, have a look at dedicated forums on xda for cases, skins, screen protectors, both glass and plastic, to find whichever suits you the most
Case and skin
That's what I use and its my favorite set up so far. I have 14 skins and 10 cases.
My favorite cases
SupCase beetle hybrid
Spigen ultra hybrid
Skins:
Slickwraps: green carbon, orange carbon, silver carbon and soon real bamboo and rela Horween leather!
No case and no screen protector here. Always use my phones naked. Definitely wouldn't mind a screen protector but because of the curved glass I feel that tempered glass screen protectors look odd without a case or have that nasty halo effect. I'm generally careful but I understand one mishap and I'll be getting my phone replaced.
I have been using a Caseology gold case for a while, but I took it off and have been going naked. I love the feel of this device bare. It feels so good in your hands.
I do have a spiegen screen protector and I believe in using a screen protector.
I have a spiegen clear slim case on order, and I just ordered a real leather black pouch. I am thinking the pouch may be my ultimate choice as I will get the daily protection but will have the naked feel when using.

I'm running naked as well but there's no way I was gonna risk scratching the screen (biggest negative for resale). Instead of the ugly tempered glass with huge gaps I bought regular film (Spigen) and it's pretty much perfect... It goes almost from edge to edge (right to the curve) and no lifting at all. Cheap too (pack of 3).
But I'm bummed about the metal sides though. I realized recently that I should have bought a white one with un-ionized metal because you can always polish out scuffs with steel wool, fine sand paper. The back cover can always be swapped for Blue color if you want. Anyway, I have a few scuffs by now but there's no way I'm gonna put it in a case because it's already a gigantic phone. I loved 2013 MotoX finish.... Bullet proof
I got a case, got sick of it, then bought skin

I rarely use a screen protector or case. This phone has a back that is so slippery, I'm looking for something to improve the grip. I was looking at some of the skins that are applied to the back but haven't read any feedback about the grip. If I get a case, it needs to work with a Air Frame vent holder and there isn't much room for anything except a very minimal case.
I hate the bulk of most cases so I'm doing intelliglass for screen protection and for minimal drop protection, I've picked up the spigen thin fit and ringke slim case. Neither adds bulk. The spigen is grippier while the ringke, in white, protects all sides.

The skins add grip to the phone. With dbrand skins, carbon fibre adds the most grip followed by the titanium and then the wood and leather.
Don't expect anything like grip tape but it is less slippery than the normal back

I just ordered a full body Skinomi skin with screen protector that I'm gonna try out.
You could get the SlickWraps Horween leather skin's. They will give you more grip then a base because it's leather...
Naked. Never used a case of history many I have owned and they still look new/mint when I move to next. But I am that Monk type person so all my stuff is new like even years old so depends on person. Phone makers go so much trouble make a phone look sexy makes no sense me why people cover it up. My 77 SS Chevy not made be covered but shown same as my Dodge SRT to be shown not covered. I think they sexy look of phone makes it itself not cases we put on it.
Sent from mobile...excuse typos!
Is it bad I kinda hope everyone going naked drops their phone and cracks their screen? Case and screen protector since day one for me.
I use a combination of skin and case right now because my phone seems to be starting to show very minor signs of the back beginning to detach itself from the phone ("detachgate" as some people are starting to call it). Generally, I just use a full body vinyl skin and a screen protector of some sort on most of my devices, and put them in cases only when I feel the risk is high enough that I need it, especially on a phone this big.

Best S8 screen protector

I wanted to create a thread to collect everyone's findings and opinions on what the best screen protector for the S8 is.
From what I have found there are:
- TPU dry application
- TPU wet application
- tempered glass glue only at sides
Post what you think the best protector is for feel, sensitivity and coverage. Also how compatable with cases and ease of application.
So far I've tried the amFilm from techmatte. Glue is viable around the sides and the touch sensitivity is reduced after insalll.
Master List - Tempered Glass
amFilm By Techmatte
Tempered glass, glue round the outside and top of the protector only. dot matrix on the screen for better sensitivity.
Glass feels nice but leaves loads of fingerprints and it is really reflective to light. Reduced sensitivity especially at the top. Works well with cases as its not quite full coverage.
Master List - TPU Films
yootech
Wet apply. Went on easy, works well with case no lifting. Feels nice.
Techgear ghostshield
Dry install. Kinda hard install as top part has separate protective film to the rest so it's hard to remove tbe main bit without getting dust under the protector. Sticks to the sides well. Clarity is bad, makes the phone look greasy /oily. Touch sensitivity is unaffected.
I bought these and it went on really easy, no bubbles and doesn't lift around the edge like a previous protector I used did when I put my Spigen Thin case on, feels ok to use too
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071R5P7QN/ref=pe_385721_37986871_TE_item
EDIT - This is the previous protector I used, I found it reasonable to apply but lifted around the edges when putting my case on

Forget yootech, it works well the first 1-2 days but then you have to repress on the borders every day because the TPU cover lift it, and now after 10 days some parts are not gluing anymore specially the bottom corners.
Feeling is plasticky and a bit sticky, not as good as ''dry'' films

Actually really like the feel. Doesn't feel too rubbery. It's not glass but it's quite smooth as long as you don't dig your nails in. I forget it's there a lot. Took me a while to apply and get it right but not had any edge lifting. I am using a case so that may help.

I can whole heartedly recommend these ones:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06XY7K875/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They are the film variety, but PET film, so no rubbery feel. These also benefit from being slightly curved at the edges (much like the TGSP's) so fit perfectly, with no lift. Have been using mine for 3 weeks now and its still firmly stuck on all edges, NO LIFTING!! And best of all, they work with cases too. Currently using it with a slim case, but it fits my Spiegen Neo Hybrid with no problems. And did I mention you get 3 in a pack. *drops the mic....walks off stage*
All jokes aside, these are a really good solution for screen protection with very few drawbacks.
P.S I do not work for this company nor is this recommendation being endorsed. Just passing on some invaluable knowledge to hopefully prevent someone else from buying almost every single variety of screen protector available.....not that I did that.....much.
honestly this screen protector thing is so long winded, and only for this phone as for all the others its been easy
there should be a section for uk screen protectors as we cant buy certain ones like the whitestonez version
finally got hold of this phone and cant decide what protector to get, has to be a good one as the screen is what it all is about

Yet another screen protector thread...looking for one without black edges that's good

The title pretty much covers it. I see many questions on this, but no definitive answers. I tried the official one but returned it since it would cover the edges of the screen. Bought one off of Amazon that said it didn't do that, but it did as well.
So simply, I'm looking for one that won't cover the screen is good quality. Simple enough, no?
I bought this case by Nillkin for my phone and it came with a free screen protector film (not a glass protector) and I find it pretty decent. I didn't find any issues with fingerprints on it.
You can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/OnePlus-Nill...=1504853058&sr=8-3&keywords=oneplus+5+nillkin
The Nillkin TGSP is probably the most compatible at the moment but it does have the larger gap around the edges, I've still got mine applied, hoping for more luck with the Rhinoshield case and a full face protector as the case is supposed to be much more compatible with them, my advice would be to go for the Nillkin until we all find the perfect replacement.

Thanks. Looks interesting particularly the all transparent version, curved edges and its cheap enough to experiment. There is no indication on where the adhesion is and no specific mention of a Oleophoic coating but describes an anti-fingerprint coating. I currently have the under screen dust issue with my Orzly tgsp but I love the feel of that screen so am looking for a alternative protector with similar finger feel.
I'm suspecting that my bumper case is causing the Orzly's issue as the dust only comes from the volume rocker area and likely due to the case pushing the Orzly's edge when pressed. Maybe this alternate protector with the curved edges would not have the same issue, while the all transparent version would likely have no issues cutting off the screen view unless the curved edge causes some undesirable optical effect.
If you get one please post your observations.

Well I post it here because I was looking if somebody already bought it. I have orzly with I'm happy however it have rainbow effect in the middle and sometimes it's quiete visible. My friend told me that he bought that one from link I sent (with black borders) and he is told me he don't have rainbow effect or cutted screen.. so i don't know
Like you I'm more interested in the transparent one as I don't know why there is even a black version on any of them.
On my Orzly I've seen the rainbow effect but only when the screen is at an unusual angle while wiping the surface clean but never when using the phone normally. It's only the dust that is driving me crazy. I'm even considering going with just my bumper case and no protector but I'll wait a while before going that route.
This one looks interesting (not glass though), quite clever application method, reminds me of the default screen protector that comes with the phone that a lot of people seem to like
Ringke Invisible Defender Screen Protector
https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Invisible-Guaranteed-Compatible-Clearness/dp/B074137YDH/
Just read the Amazon reviews and they're not that positive.
I still have to receive my oneplus 5. Would you guys recommend keeping the pre-applied film with the orzly bumper over any screenprotector that's on the market now?

i am in the same boat as you.
found this -
imak Oneplus 5 Transparent Clear Full Cover Edges 0.15mm TPU LCD Screen Protector for Oneplus 5 back Anti-shock Protective Film
http://s.aliexpress.com/BBBjERbi
(from AliExpress Android)
i just want clear protective glass that covers the whole screen. anything similar to whitestone dome protective glass (for s8) would be great.
I bought the one from Nillkin until a better one came along. However it was pure garbage. It didn't fit the whole screen and the top notch was way off center. But the main reason I threw it in the trash was there was the entire right side would not stick to my phone. There was a good 1/8" section all along the right edge that was not sticking and just looked like crap.
Finally the almost perfect tgsp.....

Almost perfect is because its not fully adhesive. Only perimeter adhesive.
so dust will appear along the sides and rainbow will appear sooner or later.

Which one is it
i dont recommend it. after few hours of usage tiny dust appearing from speaker and sensor holes going right inside the tgsp. the coating is bad. attracts fingerprint n dust. screen will smudge all over.

Got it, but wich brand produce this one? Just to look around
No brand packaging on it...i would stay away from non full adhesive due to it attracts dust and rainbow effect. I would rather use a full adhesive tgsp eventhough it will block few mm from the sides
This is the best I found for now. Not full covered but minimal bars on the side and almost no rainbow effect. After 2 weeks no dust at all.

Anything new about those glass screen protectors?

Moto X4 Cases and Lens and Screen Protectors (Unified Thread)

I think it would be easier for us Moto X4 users to have a unified thread on available cases and screen protectors.
I recently bought the Moto X4 and my case and screen protector were just delivered.
I will post pics once I installed the plastic screen protector.
I'm still waiting for my iMAK Hydrogel Film for the front/back.
Will update you soon.
If you have anything, please post your pics as well.
Thank you!

I got the same case, except in red. It fits very well, and is quite nice! It fits very well. I was afraid it'd be too rubbery but it holds its shape well, while still being flexible enough if I need to remove it.
As usual, it blocks some headphone jacks if they have a wide base, but that's expected.
Mine was $8 on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0753CD8R7/
Yes it does fit well but too bulky for my liking. I bought mine for USD5 ?.
Anyway, I'll probably get another type of case. Here's the link on how it looks like
http://www.lazada.com.my/imak-shock...html?spm=a2o4k.search.0.0.226b6e31cAW5cj&ff=1
I'm still undecided which of the 3 to get. I want the transparent but will definitely turn yellow after sometime.

I went for the smooth case, skin type feel. Hope its not slippery and gives good grip!
i ordered these 3 things on ALIEXPRESS for supercheap prices,
waiting for them to arrive... (they usually are quite fast in deliveries with china registered airmail)
2 back covers, and 5 camera protectors (for the back camera they were so cheap i ordered 5 immediately)
https://imgur.com/a/E3R0O (click link to watch all 3 pictures)
i hope one of these backcovers will at least feel like it offers good protection for dropping on the corners.
good camera protection on the back (=creating much distance between the backcover and the camera so there is a few mm's in between,
so the camera no longer touches a surface when we lay the phone on the back)
i already have a just in case glass screenprotector, which offers smooth touch...
but it has some air beneath on both sides of the screen (i dont really care some much cause it's hardly visible when the screen is turned on).
It doesn't protect the front camera sadly enough, the touch responsitivity feels great though.
so despite all its flaws i still give a 7/10.
I added some oldschool screenprotector foil that I cut with scissors on the front camera that is not covered by the just in case screenglass.
Edit: This stuff has arrived now! I like the Imak case. It's anti skid & offers good camera protection. The other case (perfect brush texture with so called "anti slip" looks better but feels bad to hold in hand. It does not offer camera protection and is not anti slip at all!
I ordered the same brand but mine is the matte black sandy feel.
I also order the iMak hydrogel film (front and back) since I really hate normal screen protector and tempered glass.
Film protectors (a la clearcoat/zagg/ishield) are not visible and will cover most of the screen including the edges.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2pc...-c62b-43f8-8513-c4ff815bdfb1&rmStoreLevelAB=5
I don't have the camera lens protector though. :/ I'm considering that since Moto likes putting a coating on their camera lenses (which scratches in time) though you can remove them completely by rubbing gently with toothpaste/baking soda.
This happened to my old Moto Z.
Btw, the case I used has a good camera lens protection. It is actually raised a little bit so you can put your phone on a flat surface without worrying.
why do you hate glass, and whats so good about gel?
good glass has great touch responsitivity,
will feel just as slippery as normal glass (are there really people that like nongreasy unslippery touchscreen?),
and protects against breaking.
my current case raises the camera as well but not enough. the only ones that raise it significantly are probably those bulky book cases.
i'll probably have to raise it myself by using superglue and putting some pieces of rubber on the inside of the screenprotector.
Since most phones these days (including Moto) are using 2.5D glass, the edges are curved and tempered glass can't cover the edges. In my past Moto phones (or just any other phones), tempered glass manufacturers will either
- make a tempered glass with maximum coverage (with obvious halo effect/ tempered glass not sticking to the edges)
or
- tempered glass won't cover the edges and can't even cover the whole display (assuming the side bezels are slim).
The film will protect the whole display and looks invisible as if there is no protection whatsoever.
I'm not too worried about breakage coz I am using a case.
Update: I received the iMak hydrogel films for the front and back. I haven't installed them yet but I'm now disappointed. The films will cover more than the glass front and back!
I'll update again once I installed it on my phone.
Anyway, this is better than the plastic screen protector I'm using now.
pietpietersen: Just wondering where you purchased the screen protector that you already had?
And if anyone can provide links to tempered glass screen protectors that have hit their phones well, I would appreciate it. I keep reading reviews on Amazon saying that some of them dont fit right.

I got the TGSP, pictured below, for the wife's X4.
It does cover the entire screen, side to side and is really hard to get it centered, side to side, because it is virtually the same width as the display.
It's cut really close to the button, camera and sensors, which also makes it difficult to get good placement.
It had the best reviews, on amazon, by far.
I really hate curved edge phones!
Triple post! Wth?
So sorry! I don't know what happened!
marxela: i got mine at smartphoneshop.be (or. nl) so its not gonna be cheap to buy or have it shipped outside of belgium/netherlands.
pizza Pablo's looks easier to place than mine, cause mine had only a tiny microphone cutout. anyway, im happy mine feels smooth to touch/swype on.
Update: Do NOT buy the iMAK hydrogel film for Moto X4. It's useless. The front and back films do NOT fit the phone itself. It's like the cutout is for an enlarge version of Moto X4!
So I have no choice but to go naked on my front screen.

Have you applied the imak hydrogel film? How does it fit? I am planning to order the same.
Edit: Got the answer. I won't order it, thanks.
I did successfully install the hydrogel film. Even if it does fit, the quality is really poor. It's like a cheap version of IQ shield or Clear Coat. There are a lot of creases and very fingerprint magnet.
I went to mobile outfitters and have my front screen installed with matte film. Problem solved.
The protector from the gadgetshieldz covers the lens, screen and body of the moto x4. I have previously used their screen protector on my moto g4. But now for my x4, I got the skins.

If someone is looking to stay away from the scratches and doesn't want to show that something is been applied on the screen camera or body. They can go with this.
I am using Nillkin frosted case for Moto X4. It's perfect for those who hate bulky cases as I do. The fit is accurate, also it protects camera bump. Case quality is very good, no doubt it will last long.
Nillkin screen protector (clear) for Moto X4 was included in the box. I bought it from AliExpress for $4.59.

Accessories what case are you using/getting?

I have the spigen rugged armor case. it is protective but slippery. i like the protection and the fact that it has holes for a lanyard, which i use a dsptch quick release wrist strap that i actually use as a neck strap when i'm on a photo outing. but i'm just not happy with it being slippery. i wonder why neither sony or their suppliers here in the us sell the sony style cover. i would be willing to try it.
anyways, any recommendations for a case? i'd actually like to go caseless but am too afraid of scratching the camera lens or cracking the screen. here in the us sony isn't a popular smartphone brand and getting repairs done i imagine won’t be easy.
I got the Caseology Vault case because it was the only thing I could get next day when my phone came in, didn't expect to like it but it's actually really nice. Good "sandstone" texture on the bottom 2/3 of it, pretty grippy and pleasant to hold.
I personally am used to this Japan brand design, as I generally held my phone around the edge.
Top: G10 Choro
Bottom: Aluminum
These 2 are essentially different in materials, design wise is similar. They added texture on slanted surface to help grip, only the outerst vertical face is smooth flat.
G10 Chrono material is new to me, feels a lot friction when fingers come in contact, and it's also lighter then aluminum version.
So, at the end I'm giving G10 Chrono version a try as of current useage.
I do still apply a glass protector on the front, and soft film on the back to get my phone fully covered.
(drop protection wise, this design of bumper, as long as dropping on flat surface, it'll always the bumper come in contact first, never the phone. If there is object / pointy rocks / etc. then yes there are probability that phone would be come in contact then)

Phone in G10 Chrono, fits perfectly, and its case button is easy to press also.
I just got a spigen rugged armor. It's good so far. But it generates dust on top, and the sides are raised, so it's not great for gestures. Can anyone recommend a good tempered glass screen protector? I figure it could raise the screen so edges will not be such a problem..

Came to post the very same case, which is the one I got.
I hate cases--ruins the svelt size and premium feel of a good phone. I doubt they provide a ton of protection, but these carbon fiber cases are genuinely thin and add no perceptible bulk, and actually feel quite nice in the hand.
From my experience, cases damage the phone more than they protect it if you take good care of them. I gave up using cases because dirt always finds a way to get in and scuff the metal sides. If you never drop the phone or place it over rough surface, the phone stays pristine.
Removing the case to clean it often also rubs and scratches the paint on the sides, so I don't understand why so many people use cases and I don't understand why cases with cloth on the inside aren't more popular.
Edit: not to mention how much I hate giving up the premium feel of metal when holding the phone instead of feeling cheap plastic all over the phone.
Chiming in to say I have both the Spigen Rugged Armor and Caseology Vault case and have used them for a short period of time, both feels nice in the hand. Can't conclusively say which is better, so I'll still need to try it for some time
One thing i noticed (or maybe it's just me), is that the Spigen case have a slightly higher depth for the camera bump (presumably to protect the lens from accidental scratching)

Does it work with this wireless charging case?
Haven't tested wireless charging, sorry. Probably the manufacturer has specified if it does, and/or someone has asked/answered that question on the product page on Amaazon? That said, I thought these sort of cases generally work with wireless charging--again though, haven't tried it myself.

I'm with you. I've ran my last several phones without a case because I could never find one I liked. I wasn't even sure when I ordered this one, but so far I absolutely love it. Kept the phone light and small and really like the texture
Bought a few clear TPU cases, one Aioria leather. But then I also ordered a carbon fiber skin case from Ali Express a couple of months back that just showed up. Keeps the slim design and premium look. Less than $25, but will take at least a couple of months to arrive.
I bought the Spigen Rugged Amor and the CYRILL by Spigen 'Stone' colour, knowing that they're both essentially Spigen. They obviously use the same moulds so the fit is identical for each. No problem with the power button recess or a loose fit.
The CYRILL has a slightly raised bump around the camera hole and the side grips are vertical, so run the length of the phone. It's a lighter slate grey colour, but the back is all one matte shade, instead of the Rugged Armor with its tacky fake carbon fibre effect patches. I hate how they do that. However, the matte effect finish of the main part of the back panel on the Rugged Armor feels really nice, and the side grips are a nice diagonal hatched effect which feels very nice.
Personally, I wish Spigen had already brought a Liquid Air case to market for the X1M3, I love the subtle back panel design and I have them on all my other phones. Hopefully in due course. The Caseology looked nearly identical to the Rugged Armor for even more money, so I skipped that.
I fitted the Spigen AlignMaster (GLAStR) screen protector this evening - like all protectors, the curse of tiny dust particles and a few small hairs, but this time the included adhesive "dust removal" stickers was an absolute blessing. It took about a dozen minor dust removals after applying the main protector, but it's now on and perfect.
I'm mixed about the Spigen's black panels top and bottom, I don't really see why they're there as they add nothing to the design and require a totally aligned fit to avoid cutting off screen edges. However, the alignment frame which comes with the protector makes it so simple to place the glass on to the screen and get it 100% aligned, I wasn't that bothered.
I also bought the 3 pack of PULEN protectors; they're much more basic, standard "tempered glass 9H" style affairs. Slightly sharper edges than the Spigen protector, though the Spigen one isn't totally bevelled either. You would want to use a case. to avoid catching an edge and lifting the protector off the screen.
The Spigen protector fits snugly into a Spigen case, as expected. If you're aligning by hand and using a TPU case, you may want to apply the glass with the phone in the case.
